Scenario: I was playing... air hockey...and you know how that game can get intense?! Well I was jumping up and down and somebody was calling me but I was too into it to check it. Then it stopped and someone (Maybe same person) called again so I paused the game and checked my phone, it was just a black screen. The lights on the capacitive buttons were working, buttons were working (because the phone was vibrating) and the actual phone was still working but just couldn't see anything. I pulled the battery, turned it back on, put it in my pocket and started playing again. At the end of the game (Yeah, I lost) I checked and it was still black. The screen wasn't off, it was just black LED's I guess. I could scroll to unlock and everything, and now its just stuck like that. Stuck as in I can't see anything...
Not really asking for help because I think the phone messed up, but I'm just saying that the phone might not be perfectly built, or atleast mine wasn't...
T-Mobiles closed right now so I'ma call tomorrow morning.

Wrong Forum? But this situation is DEVELOPING as we speak...
It is an interesting DEVELOPMENT, to say the least.
Maybe he should take pictures and have them DEVELOPED so we have a better understanding!
I had a similar issue but when starting the phone, I would just get a black screen but with the capacitive buttons working but no widgets and no access to apps. Menu options works because I was able to access settings but that's about it. A guy from tmobile forum told me to do a factory reset as maybe it just a minor hiccup in the phone manufacturing so I did and ever since, I have not seen the black screen and I have done a few reboots just to check. Goodluck!
No I just can't see anything. It's like all the LED's are black, I can't factory reset it or anything. Unless someone can do it without looking at the screen....
same thing literally just happened to be about 20 minutes ago. i am extremely frustrated. the screen is just black but its like i can move around on the phone. does anyone know whats going on???
Hey guys,
After another freeze, I was able to actually connect via ADB. The shell was working fine.
Anyways, I did a logcat, and I saw the attached code looping.
http://pastebin.com/DV3uVYJg
It just keeps looping on these audio logs.
Any thoughts?
Anyone else get logcats similar or different than this?

I just set a 4 digit password on my HTC HD T8282 a few days ago. Its worked fine for several days - when I turn it on and enter the 4 digit code, everything is fine. But a couple days ago I turned it on and the password screen shows the number pad, but when I touch the numbers, nothing happens (usually I would see an * for each digit I press), but nothing happens when I touch the digits now, however I can press the "Menu" button on the bottom right of the screen and get a selection of Reset Password or Cancel - but the only option that can be selected is cancel (the 'Reset Password' option is greyed out).
Any idea how I fix this, I can't use may phone now!
I'm trying to avoid doing a hard reset if I can.
Any suggestions???
it might be an issue with your touch screen calibration, have you tried connecting and controlling the device using a windows pc and mymobiler?
Interesting! I did notice that the screen calibration was off one day and recalibrated it and everything seemed fine after that. But I'll definitely give this a try! I'll let you know what happend too.
Thanks for the quick response!

I downloaded mymobiler v1.25 and intalled it. My PC is running Windows XP and I use ActiveSync v4.5. ActiveSync is able to connect to my pnone when its connected to my PC but I can't get mymobiler to connect to it.
I see the mymobiler icon in the system tray but it gives a "not connected" message if I place the mouse cursor over the icon. Also, if I click the icon and get the menu, even if I click "Connect" nothing seems to happen.
Also, the mymobiler screen doesn't show when I select "Open Mobiler".
Anything I'm doing wrong?
that reminds me of the question i should have asked in the first place:
did you set the password with the windows mobile built-in security feature or using a 3rd party software?
background: the windows mobile's own security is meant to prevent proper activesync connections, because, without entering the password, you are not supposed to be able to sync data or access the phone, in that case, activesync should ask you for your 4 digit password, before the connection is really established.
also, if i remember correctly from my blueangel (which had a password bug with cooked roms), a hard reset wouldn't even be enough to unlock the phone again, because potential thieves could do that as well and had a brand new phone on their hands. so only flashing the device with another rom did the trick.
assuming that, as a reasonable windows mobile user, you create regular pim backups, either using pimbackup, MS myphone or outlook sync, you might be better off, just flashing the rom again, performing a hard reset and start over. after all, as of now, your phone is only a useless brick and being able to use such a great device again should be worth more than a few sms or the 90-120 minutes it takes you to flash the device and set it up again and install your apps.

Its the Window's built in security feature.
It seems as the activeSync works to update my Microsoft Outlook with information from my phone while connected to my PC. But Mymobiler doesn't connect to the phone.
I wouldn't even know where to start for flashing the rom - never done that, looks like I'm going to have to do some reading on the forum...
UPDATE: I did a hard reset on my phone and now after booting, it shows a screen alignment screen and I keep pressing on the screen where the marker is, each time the marker moves to the next location (center then each corner of the screen). After I finish with each location, the process starts all over again - it just keeps doing this.
Any idea what is wrong now???
if it just keeps starting over, the points you pressed were too far off the regular grid, so the device "doesn't believe it". you should have a look at your screen, whether somewhere there might be a tiny peace of dirt or an air bubble under the screenprotector or something like that. since the blackstone lacks multitouch, when it detects 2 display touches, the relative center of the 2 points pressed is the touch point it recognizes. say, you have dirt pressing your display in the top left, you are aligning the screen at the bottom right, it will determine the relative middle of the display as touched point.
so what i'm trying to say is:
either your screen has some hidden peace of dirt somewhere, which would mean, clean it thoroughly, OR your display is starting to fail due to a hardware defect, caused probably by the device's age and everyday wear and tear. in that case, have a look at ebay for the digitizer+lcd combo, download the blackstone service manual and exchange the display. also, in case you need to buy spare parts, be advised that the price for a used blackstone, depending on your location, might only be as high as 80-180$ (which makes some spare parts heavily overpriced in comparison to the price of the device itself).
Thanks again Chef Tony! I'll give that a try.
I was just looking at ebay for a digitizer+LCD combo and saw this but also saw a digitizer only which was much cheaper. Since my LCD screen appears to be fine (image on the screen visible), do I need the Combo, or will the digitizer only work (or is it much easier to install the combo, etc?) Since I've never done this, just wondering...
i believe there are a few other threads on this forum dealing with both the installation of the digitizer only and the combo. the problem appears to be that the lcd and the digitizer are glued together, which makes it very hard to separate your original unit and there is a risk of harming your lcd in the process, which makes the repair more expensive. personally i'd go for the combo for more convenience.

Thanks - that make sense. I'll look at getting a combo. I found the post with pics about replacing it on the forum and hopefully that does it for me. Thanks so much for all of your help!
Thanks Chef_Tony! Got the combo unit and installed it today - phone is back up and running! Thanks for all of your help!
I found a good video on disassembly and reassembly on the web, just in case anyone else needs it, here's the location:

I've been trying to get my Nvidia Shield TV rooted for the last hour and a half or so, and after finally figuring out how to get the Shield recognized with the proper drivers, I get the thing into the bootloader and nothing I plug into it will display the bootloader screen. My projector and both TVs I own show nothing. If I hold the power button down for a while, I'm eventually get some pixelated text that says "Continue to boot" and then the Shield will go into its normal boot routine, but I get nothing else. Apparently to unlock the bootloader I need to be able to interact with the Shield, but I can't do that if there's no screen. I can't find any info on this issue either. Is it possible it has something to do with incorrect drivers?
I had the same problem, none of my display were able to show the bootloader menu.
In short, I could not manage this display problem, theretheless I was able to unlock and root my device by handle blindly.
Have a look at following YouTube video at 14:10 the bootlader menu is shown:

I had ended up doing the same thing, Basti. Glad to hear I'm not the only one with the problem though. It's a silly nuisance and the only thing I can think of is that maybe I need a 4K TV or somehow it operates in some mode only PC monitors recognize. The lack of complaints of this issue is surprising.

I have Samsung f8000 smart full hd tv, and kind of no problems. Don't have chance to check on other sources for report this is more likely on all units kind of bug or just some units like yours or Basti. Anyway I'm ok - fastboot screen shown on Samsung f8000

Hey everybody! I need to know how our child can turn her Fire 8 tablet on from a completely off and powered down state (not sleep/hibernation) and access her home screen where her educational books and games are located without us having to use our parental control password to log into the device; that is, we want her to be able to turn it on without our intervention...AND continuing to be unable to access anything that does require our password to do anything we wish her not to. Her mother simply wants her to be able to turn it on and she's good to go and can read and play games without nagging us about it. It is imperative that the parental controls be kept in place do anything else. Is this possible? Thank you!
As long as the tablet was shut down while in the child account, the tablet will boot up into that account automatically. It will still boot to the lock screen, but all you do is swipe up as usual. Only if you try to change user accounts from the lock screen to one of the normal parental accounts are you then presented with the pin input screen.
However, really, there's no need to shut the tablet completely down unless it will go for days or weeks between use.
But, if that's what you have to do, all your child needs to know is that she will have to hold the power button down for a few seconds until it make that "be-deep" sound and the Amazon logo comes on screen - at which point she can let go of the button. Then the yellow Fire logo while it boots until if finally goes to the lock screen.
Now, this is with the 7th gen Fire HD 8 using Freetime. My son has this one, and that's how it works for us. No pin input needed when it boots straight into his account.
Hello guys.
I have a rather weird request: Can someone do a video of the phone doing the steps needed to cast the screen onto a chromecast, from unlocking the screen to casting successfully ?
The story is : my screen died. It was in my hand, no shocks or whatever. The touch still works (called 112 ) but no image. I've opened the phone and tried to move the data cable of the screen, unplugged it, unplugged the battery, only to see some faint lines when opening the phone and quickly dissapearing.
One time, it worked, the screen lit up and worked fine, don't know why. Restarted the phone, and didn't work any more.
No gsm/it services were able to help me, they said it's probably the main board (video chip) and it's not worth it, just buy a new phone.
I can feel the phone working fine, the unlocking is vibrating, and such, but I can't see anything.
I figured to cast the screen onto chromecast and save what ever I can. But I need your help in doing so, because I can't manage to blindly cast. A video of where to touch the screen to cast might help me. So please, spare a few minutes to help me out, and thank you very much !
