Hello all,
I'm currently facing an issue with my phone and have done numerous troubleshoots to try to diagnose the issue. Long story short, my phone suddenly died on me one day at 50% battery life and would not turn back on; couldn't boot into Recovery, Download, etc; absolutely no response. I looked at previous xda threads with this issue like this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/galaxy-s7-edge-wont-charging-indications-t3669736 and followed their recommendation to let the battery completely drain over a few days, recharge to full capacity, and attempt to boot again. I was able to boot into download mode and flash a clean build with stock rom. All looked good but when I tried to boot back into System, the phone crashed immediately after the Samsung logo and got the blue notification light of death. Once again, no response so I let the battery deplete overnight, getting rid of the blue light, and recharging my phone to full capacity.
Unfortunately, since then I have not been able to boot the phone again at all. I finally decided to take the arduous task of opening the phone and replacing the battery, which had no effect either. So from my conclusion, I'm assuming my motherboard may be dead. Does anyone have any tips on how to diagnose where the issue may be on the motherboard? I know I can purchase a replacement motherboard but I want to use this as a learning experience and possibly save $100. Any relevant help is appreciated. Thank you!
After doing all those things you have done and a couple of visits to Samsung service center (They have asked me 28000 INR for replacement of Battery, Motherboard, LCD and Tapes), I gave the phone to someone who dealt with similar issue. He said, it's the Power IC that needs to be replaced. I'm waiting for him to call me. So, check the Power IC, if you can and see if that is the problematic part.
hey i had a similar issue with my s7 edge which i started this thread about https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/strange-s7-edge-semi-bricked-t3703917
i never actually updated it but after a while of my phone randomly rebooting and freezing etc one day it never switched back on i was still in warrenty with samsung so i sent it off and they repaired it, it turned out it was a dead motherboard in the end

I thought that may be it too so I reflowed the power IC chips with some flux and a blow dryer, still no dice. I'm beginning to think maybe it's an issue with the CPU IC and/or capacitors and at this point it isn't worth the effort repairing due to all the necessary tools and lack of documentation for what voltage or current reading should be for each component. I found a nice CPU IC repair video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yi7VySXABo but the tools would cost more than just buying a new motherboard lol. Got myself a new motherboard anyways, probably just gonna use this one as a sandbox to practice my diagnostic and soldering skills on.

Caveat - This is my son's phone, and only the recent observations are my own. I can't be sure he didn't do something to munge it up, though I am fairly certain he has not tried to flash it (I haven't either). In any case . . .
I bought an unlocked SMT5600 on eBay about 6 weeks ago. It worked great for about 3 weeks, then went on the fritz. It started by only booting to the red-green-blue OS screen. Removing the battery did nothing to reset it. It was still doing this when I retrieved it from my son. When I finally had time to look at it four days later, it booted once or twice to that screen, but then stopped doing even that. I have since done research online and not seen a similar situation. Other observations - there is no change if I swap out the battery for one that I know is charged. After replacing the battery, when I insert the charge cord (wall plug, not USB to PC) the power light flashes red briefly, then goes black and never comes on again.
Of course the eBay seller is telling me I'm SOL at this point. Before the problems began, I actually bought three more of these phones from the same seller and none has had any problems. My son is not into modding or installing programs, and tells me he has done neither. I think this is likely the case, but it is conceivable he or a friend might have tried something. So I am looking for assistance/direction in what to try next. Although I don't think I have the correct torx to disassemble it right now, I am willing to get the right tools and give that a go to avoid a $150 paperweight.
Thanks, mastman
booting to loader screen
I had this problem, turned out to be a faulty / stuck camera switch
check it clicks well, to check for stuck,
if it clicks well you will need to open the phone to check it with a meter.
not sure why its gone dead now, but sounds a little like a over flat battery.
Ive fixed these in the past by using a 300mah 3v suply for 20 secs at a time to bring it back up to a level the phone will charge.
please be very carefull li-ion cells are very dangerous, try useing a known good battery first in the phone to check its charging
good luck

My SMT5600 choked as it was being flashed, now it won't charge nothing, just a paperweight. Is there anyway to resurrect it? At all?
Thanks
Hi to all, my g1 does not turn on by any means..I have done everything from CPR to dressing in aluminium under a thunderstorm today in NY. if there is any way I could resuscitate this device, I will be very thankful.
does anything happen while the charger is in?
nothing at all. not even the led turns on when I connect it
the battery is probably dead
tested the battery on my other g1, perfect. the other battery on the damaged phone, Nothing.....
Sounds like you may have experienced a hardware failure of some sort then. I would suggest contacting HTC about doing a warranty RMA.
I had the same issue with a G1.
Pull the battery and look at the pins. Use a device to straighten and even out all the pins. While doing so, make sure to short all pins together. This should clear out any remaining stored power in the device.
The pins in my device were only slightly uneven and this brought the unit back from death. I'm not sure if the connections to the battery are fragile or if the connectors to the pins are what went bad. However, give it a try.
Jon
My guess is
The motherboard short circuited. I fix G1's as a side job/hobby and I have come across a couple G1's where it wouldn't turn on what so ever or give any sign that the G1 still had a soul. The reason this happens is either that the g1 was dropped, causing the motherboard to short circuit or the g1 got partially wet inside/humidity and when you connected it, the electricity started killing your phone little by little until it was completely dead. But either way my guess is that your motherboard short circuited out. HTC will repair it but for about $160 I believe
I am having a similar problem. Mine turns on, but shortly after will black out. Seems to mostly stem from pressure or contact with the lower portion of the phone where the buttons are located.
I had a problem like that. I just called T-mobile, and they were VERY cool about it and fast. I think I was on the phone with them 10 minutes. They sent me a new G1 for free, they even paid the postage to send it to me, and for me to send it back to them. Just make sure on those 2 with dots under your battery none of it turned red. I did the same thing with my daughter's sidekick and there was a small bit of red on the white dot and they charged me 100 bucks. They said it would take 7 to 10 business days to come and it was at my house in 3 days.. not bad eh?
Hello,
I've been flashing my Blackstone since I bought it a year ago, used many different ROMs, TASK 29, latest ROM I used was MaryOne - Build 23568 - WWE [300410]. There were some minor problems but otherwise it was working good till today.
In the morning, phone was connected to USB for activesync and suddenly died, it doesn't want to turn on, not even a diode turns on when I plug in the usb cable to show that it is charging, anybody could give some help? It is in warranty but I'm not sure, what they will say if they'll get in and see cookend rom in it any solution how to avoid it?
Same problem here. Has been flashing Energy ROM for the last couple of weeks but I dont think it is a software issue.
Prior to the present state of totally dead (ie. no LED light when charger is connected, cannot power on, pressing ON switch will not power/turn on phone neither can I hard reset), the phone behaved strangely by resetting itself during video play and phone switched off by itself.
I suspect it a hardware issue. If so, which parts and where can I purchase it without going thro HTC authorised dealer to pay a ransom! Or its time to dump the phone and upgrade? - HELP!, any suggestion?
I have no idea what you could do, but if you decide to
upgrade, please contact me. I would buy the broken phone
because I need a tiny metal part from it, as you can read in my other thread.

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago.
I sent the phone to htc and they changed the motherboard. This took alltogether about 4 weeks.
bgumble,
Thanks for your input. I could only find motherboard flex cable online : http://www.globaldirectparts.com//ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=HTC730080&Click=1710
Maybe you can tell if the motherboard also house the flash ROM? If that is the case I guess the motherboard is only available via HTC service centre! or purchase a faulty unit from ebay with a working motherboard.
Yes the motherboard houses the rom.
the only other major pcb (print circuit board) is the top flex pcb which AFAIK doesn't house any of the flash storage or any other major chips.
if you want to DIY repair, you can use the service manual and I have some tips/advice in the bottom link in my sig, even tho its to change the screen, you can omit a few steps and use it to change the mobo if you're confident doing such a repair.
IIRC: mobo houses the cpu, ram, flash, various transistors and i/o rails, the usb socket, radio nand, coax rails. it also is connected to the wifi/gps/bt/sd/sim pcb, but they are seperatable.
Thank you for you info, qwertylesh.
Having replaced the LCD for TYTN II and checked the service manual and video to dis-assemble HD I think I can manage. But the only problem is getting the spare part, motherboard!. I am hoping to bid for a faulty HD but with a working motherboard on ebay.
I tried placing my dead HD, well wrapped in plastic bag, in the freezer for 2 hrs and then out in room temperature for an hour. Replaced battery but same results - will not power on.
With the charger plugged in, there is no LED lights but testing the terminals which comes into contact with the battery terminals there is voltage (4.19v), meaning - it is charging the battery but the motherboard fails to bootup!
Would it be possible to fix the motherboard? - a long shot!!!!
depends on what is exactly causing it to not boot up I think.
weather its a problem with the flex PCB or the ribbon + power button PCB at the top of your mobile or weather it is actually the motherboard at the bottom.
My HD was dead during upgrade
My Phone was dead during upgrade can anybody help me?
I found a way to repair using JTAG method but unfortunately i stuck up unavailability of JTAG pin outs.
Touch HD Mainboard
I too am in need of a new main board. I packed up my touch HD and transported it in it's original box 150 miles couple of week before I powered it up again and the phone starts, responds to volume up/down and connects via active sync. Basically it all works apart from the screen, no back light and can't see anything on the screen. The phone will charged the battery but there's no light on the power button. I've opened the phone up and disconnected the flex PCB and the connection between the main board and the screen but still have the fault.
Has anyone managed to get hold of one?
Hi all, tried searching for some help but couldn't find anything of any use, plenty of similar things only but not quite the same.
Basically, my phone had been in use today, as normal, nothing different, nothing new installed. I put it down on the table while I did some work around the house, an hour late I picked it up and it was off. It had around 70% power when I last looked at it, Not only had it turned off, it was so hot I couldn't hold it for more than a moment. After letting it cool down, I tried to turn it on and nothing at all happened. I decided to plug it in and leave it to charge a bit, but when I came back to it again half an hour later it was still dead and hot as hell again.
I have tried three different chargers and even a new battery that I bought in town just this morning, thinking the battery was the problem. Still exactly the same thing happening with new battery, wont charge, phone heating up within minutes to the point where I cant hold it. Heat seems to be building up underneath the memory card slot.
I did manage to boot it up briefly whilst it was plugged in before it got too hot but had to turn it off again to cool it down. It seemed to boot just fine on that occasion. Also managed to get it into recovery and did a cache wipe as well as a full factory wipe but no difference. Again I managed to boot it after the wipe, seemed to start up as you would expect a first boot to do, asking me to set up the phone, but again it was no gaining charge and was heating up very fast so had to turn it off again.
Any ideas what the hell has gone wrong with me phone?
I have a repair pack from Samsung on route as its only four months old, so they will do a warranty repair or a swap, but while I'm waiting, thought it best to ask here if anyone has any ideas.
Sorry for such a long post, if I need to post anything more specific feel free to ask.
Thanks in advance
I experienced such before...
Phone heats up a lot and shuts off when charging. I send the phone in for repair, the service center identify it as faulty motherboard and got a replacement handset...
It is just bad quality components in Galaxy S4. Go and change your phone at service center.
Thanks for that, I had a feeling it was motherboard, processor or USB board, Was kind of hoping I was wrong and there was something I could do at home to fix it but oh well...
Does it matter that I have the new German 4.3 firmware on a UK handset with multi-csc? Knox flag is still 0x0 if that matters to warranty lol. I cant flash anything stock if I cant turn the thing on lol.
Why is the S4 such a poor quality phone for a flagship, seems to be so many faults with the phone and battery. I've had both the cracked screen issue as well as this crash for no reason. My S2 on the other hand is still going strong and working perfectly despite being dropped a few times and having had no new parts or battery replaced. Its covered in marks and dents from prolonged use and still keeps going. Had that since launch. Back to using it while waiting for the four month old S4 to be fixed.
EDIT:
Strange new development, the original battery doest do anything any more. Nothing happening at all, no charging screen, no heating up, nothing. New battery still not charging and causing phone to heat up. Did manage to boot the phone up again for a few minutes last night and besides heat and not charging, it seemed to work. Making me think its not the motherboard at fault now or surely it wouldn't turn on. No idea what's going on now.
I have been unable to boot up my letv 1s device, I have tried everything listed on this forum and other forum to boot up my letv device. Including removing the battery and reconnect them back again.
Recently, I tried to repair it to local phone repair shop, they told me it needs a battery replacement. I bought the battery from aliexpress and replaced them, but it still doesnt boot up.
The repair shop gave up and gave me back the phone and told me the EMMC is weak (I'm not sure about this).
I disassembly the phones and try to figure out the problem, I am guessing the problem might be with the charging board, I am posting the video here hoping someone pro could help me solve the problem. I'm guessing its the charging board because everytime I connect the device to the PC, it kept reconnecting when I tried to FLash a new ROM.
Here are the video of the board kept reconnecting when I tried to connect them to PC

I really hope someone with more experience could give me more insight about this, thanks.
PS: Please dont ask me to charge the phone again with original adapter and cable, because thats the first thing I tried and I charge it for more than 24 hours already (I even tried to buy a new adapter and usb type-c cable). Oh and I tried connecting to PC with the battery connected also, and it kept reconnecting.
Hi, I also have same problem, but still no solution.
Hi @casper2201 , @softkans and any one with the same issue,
I too had the same issue. It started with the charging rate becoming too slow (1% increment in 25 minutes of charging). I switched off the phone and left to charge for around 35 hours straight and came to find it 79% charged. Then I tried flashing the LOS14 after LOS13 ROMs but in vain. I also fiddled with the Kernel Adiutor, still no help. The charge won't increase when the phone is on so I left it to discharge until it switched off. Then the main issue showed up with red light always on when charging and blank screen.
I also posted about it here, but no one replied. Then I took a leap of faith and went to a local repair shop. He confirmed that it was a hardware problem and the charging module needs to be replaced. Just now I am coming from the shop itself after picking up my phone. Its working fine till now *fingers crossed*. He charged me ₹1300 ($20) which is a little high for the service but it doesn't matter as he was the only one ready to open it as there was the risk of cracking the screen.
So, summing it up, if you have the same problem as that of mine then you need to replace your charging module and I think it will be fine.
Charging module replaced.
Current condition of phone.
The rubber bands will help the adhesive strengthen.
Thanks,
Abhishek

Yesterday when I was done with setting up my phone, I put it to charge and the same issue has come again. Its not charging and the "Red light of Death" is back. Today I'm going to the repair shop again and see what he can do now.
I think this is the end and there is no point throwing away more money on the device anymore.

Sir same thing happened with me....phone is not charging red light alert and display blank...please suggest me what can I do
I want my data back from that and its not starting my data is really very important I can't loose that
Help me and tell me what can i do so that my data will not loose and my phone starts
Remove display and disconnect battery. If it won't be alive again that's probably power management unit problem and you won't fix that way.
