G1 just not turning on... - G1 General

Hi to all, my g1 does not turn on by any means..I have done everything from CPR to dressing in aluminium under a thunderstorm today in NY. if there is any way I could resuscitate this device, I will be very thankful.

does anything happen while the charger is in?

nothing at all. not even the led turns on when I connect it

the battery is probably dead

tested the battery on my other g1, perfect. the other battery on the damaged phone, Nothing.....

Sounds like you may have experienced a hardware failure of some sort then. I would suggest contacting HTC about doing a warranty RMA.

I had the same issue with a G1.
Pull the battery and look at the pins. Use a device to straighten and even out all the pins. While doing so, make sure to short all pins together. This should clear out any remaining stored power in the device.
The pins in my device were only slightly uneven and this brought the unit back from death. I'm not sure if the connections to the battery are fragile or if the connectors to the pins are what went bad. However, give it a try.
Jon

My guess is
The motherboard short circuited. I fix G1's as a side job/hobby and I have come across a couple G1's where it wouldn't turn on what so ever or give any sign that the G1 still had a soul. The reason this happens is either that the g1 was dropped, causing the motherboard to short circuit or the g1 got partially wet inside/humidity and when you connected it, the electricity started killing your phone little by little until it was completely dead. But either way my guess is that your motherboard short circuited out. HTC will repair it but for about $160 I believe

I am having a similar problem. Mine turns on, but shortly after will black out. Seems to mostly stem from pressure or contact with the lower portion of the phone where the buttons are located.

I had a problem like that. I just called T-mobile, and they were VERY cool about it and fast. I think I was on the phone with them 10 minutes. They sent me a new G1 for free, they even paid the postage to send it to me, and for me to send it back to them. Just make sure on those 2 with dots under your battery none of it turned red. I did the same thing with my daughter's sidekick and there was a small bit of red on the white dot and they charged me 100 bucks. They said it would take 7 to 10 business days to come and it was at my house in 3 days.. not bad eh?

self energising vibrator and flat batteries

hi, Just have to tell you about a weird fault with my XDA2. Last november I dropped my XDA2, and it was replaced under the Silver insurance that O2 offer. Since receiving the new unit, I have had random Hard Resets due to a totally discharged battery. I changed the battery but still the same problems. I had to check my charge level very frequently and put on-charge to prevent wipe-outs. This morning I noticed that as I put my phone in my pocket it was vibrating very weakly. It would stop if the phone was turned upright, or laid flat on its back. If the phone is placed on its left edge and given a slight tap on the connector end it will start to vibrate, whether the unit is off, on. Ah-Ha, this must be the culprit. The vibrator is very battery hungry even though the vibration is weak. I have sent it back for repair. Really pissed as I have to use my old nokia 3650 till it comes back!
Anyone else had this problem. Clearly a short of some kind....
Jerry,
I have had this problem recently. MyXDA2 is secondhand so not sure of its history. The bottom of my unit kept getting very hot, very worrying. I narrowed it down to the vibtator, which is now electrically disconnected. Watch this spot to see if it is curred.
Fred
Hi Derf. My XDA2 didn't get hot, but I reckon there is a weak spot regarding the wiring of the vibrator. In my case it may be shorting through to a low current track causing the motor to run, in your case it may plain shorting out. Not nice at all. I would have tried to attempt a repair on mine, but it is insured and I didn't want to invalidate the guarantee. Good luck with sorting yours.
Jerry,
Just an update on the vibrator problem. It has been about 4 weeks now and I've had no probs at all. I will investigate if it is a PCB problem or vibrator fault. I suspect PCB as I have never turned the vibrate function on on purpose.

Dropped phone = DEAD IMATE JAM ! *HELP*

Hello all,
I recently dropped my phone and when I tried to turn it back on, it wouldn't turn on. There's no light on anywhere in the phone. I opened up the phone and checked all the connections, seems like everything is still intact and connected. I have given up on trying to diagnose the problem on this phone, so i'm asking y'alls help. Could it just be a battery problem? or is it a hardware problem that's unfixable? Can I send this phone somewhere and get it fixed, if so, how much would it cost me? Thank You in advance.
Its more unlikely for the battery to get damaged on drop down. Its definitely a hardware. Hope your baby is still under warranty, the you can even get a replace done for free. Else the charge may vary by the diagnosis. Anyway i hope it wont be of much expense if the display is intact by the dropped force, probably there wont be of much damage.
Regards
Carty..
Hi,
I had the same prob. & send it to the service center. Luckily they replaced my phone for free. Still don't know what the real problem was, very unlikely the battery though cause I got it back with a half charged one (probably mine which I had to send in as well).
No good news for you afterall, I do really feel with you in these horrible times.
Regards, M
Yeah, i'm thinking of just buying another phone, because I don't have warranty on this phone anymore and even if I did, I have voided the warranty on it by opening it up. I'm still gonna get a new battery for it though, just to see if it is the battery, if not then I guess my loss. Atleast I found out that it wasn't the battery.
Does it show evident marks of being opened up by you? Cause that was the main reason I didn't try opening it, too afraid voiding the warranty. Though I had it unlocked & patched for BS too.
So I just gave it a try & in my case it worked out fine.

I suppose, problem is connected not to battery, but to battery cover/switch. Look at the photo: there is a pin on the battery cover. Usually, when cover is on the right place, it presses the switch down. Try to check at first, if switch is broken or not. When pressed, it have to short circuit. You can just short it by piece of wire and see, what's happened. If swich is not closed, jam will never turn on, even if you have charged battery, or AC adaptor connected.

I tried that already, but I will check the cover and see the latch on the battery cover is broken or not, maybe it is. I'll try it when i get home.
if you want to salvage it for parts, I'll buy the ear piece (mini speaker in the front) from you.

I'll have to wait and see first, maybe my phone can still be saved.
Oh man, i'm so relieved right now. This whole time I was wondering if I had to buy a new phone, since my jam is broken. I just found out that the US service center for HTC is located right by my house. It's just a relief, I will stop by there office on monday to see if they can fix my imate jam. Thank god !
Hope the best for you @ very low cost.
M
dropped off the jam there this afternoon, the cute lady service tech took my jam and said she'll run some diagnostics on it and call me whenever she gets done with it. Hopefully it's fixable.

Wizard won't turn on

How's it going all?
My phone has slowly been dying on me, and today was the final straw. I shut the phone off last night, and it will not turn back on. I've tried using a house/usb/car charger with no success. Would I be wrong in assuming that it is a faulty battery? Could there be another problem? The furthest screen the phone reached today was the tmobile white load screen, before turning black and shutting off.
If it is the battery, would this be an appropriate replacement?

It does sound suspiciously like a dead battery. Try cleaning the contacts on the battery and phone first. If that still doesn't help, and if the phone hasn't been damaged (you didn't share that info), then you may want to get a replacement battery. The one you linked to would work fine.
Another battery option for you.

There is no apparent damage that I've seen. I have had a problem with the phone losing service lately, along with a crackling sound during the start of a call.
Before I order this item, are there any retailers that would carry it? I'm leaving for a week and wouldn't have this replacement in time.
Thanks for the replies!
Check your local Cingular stores -- I don't know if the 8125 battery will fit into a Wizard 200 device (e.g. Qtek 9100), but they should be electrically identical.
I just ordered a replacement battery from amazon.com after trying a battery from a friend....and the phone worked.
I tried one last time to get the phone to charge, but to no avail...UNTIL I seen the orange light after wiggling it around for a bit. The phone made it to the loading screen, and then the light, and the power-up disappeared. I've been trying to get the light to come back on, but I can't seem to get that sweet spot.
Does this sound like a problem with the usb port? If so, is there anyway to fix that?
Thanks!

Hermes bricked? Toasted? Need assistance urgently!

Before anyone jumps on me, I've been going through the Wiki and forums extensively, and found just one similar problem. Which wasn't solved...
My HTC TyTN/Hermes 200 won't boot up anymore. It is totally dead. I even can't get it into bootloader mode. Screen stays blank and the LED is off.
Put the (3 months old) battery in another Hermes to test it, and it's at 100% charge.
My Hermes shows a steady red LED when it's plugged into power without the battery in, and no LED at all when the battery is installed. The red LED turns off when the battery is installed while there's power going into the unit.
I've left the battery out for at least an hour, plugged it back in, same results. Like the other guy I tried the "pull power, pull battery, plug in power, plug in battery, reset" trick http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...6469&p=1077622 - to no avail.
Does anyone have any last resort ideas on how to get it to at least come back up to a boot loader screen ?
check the battery contact points on the phone. the hermes shows a red led when its plugged in but without a battery
... have you ever dismantled your hermes? your screen ribbon cable may have dead tracks or not be connected properly
just a test on the opposite side of the battery connectors with battery removed press firmly without putting pressure on the LCD, this worked for me when i had a white screen on power up.
if this fixes the problem you may need to actually dismantle the back and put some flame retardant electrical tape on the back over the existing tape to add an extra layer of pressure and retension

Yes, I have cleaned the contact too, nothing. And the battery is OK for sure, my colleague's TyTN runs on it without any problem.

In fact I have, I have totally dismantled and reassembled my TyTN yesterday afternoon, nothing.
the only other problem may be that when being dismantled you may have damaged some sensitive components, Electro Static Discharge will fry sensitive CMOS components, they do not like it at all, whenever dismantling you should wear an earth strap, any time i dismantled mine it was on a workbench with a static mat and i was earthed through the mat.
but this is one possibility, the only other idea is to swap main board and displays with another that works, finding someone willing to allow you to do this with a working hemes is the tough part.
thats as much all i can think of for now
R.I.P. my trustful Hermes 200
Thanks all for your assistance. I have come to the conclusion that my sweetheart is no longer among us. May she rest in peace.
I have obtained a (2d hand) replacement yesterday. May this one last longer.
I'll keep the old TyTN for replacement parts.
Oh well...

[Q] Resurrect HD2 from the dead?

By now I feel like the unluckiest person on this planet...
About two months ago, I lost my HD2 and of course whoever found it didn't return it. Then about a month ago, I bought another used HD2. The battery cover was severely scratched and there was some light damage at the corners so I ordered a new housing on eBay. In the mean time I have been installing all kinds of stuff on it but didn't actually use it as a phone (didn't insert my SIM card) because I wanted to wait for the new housing and for a protective silicon case - I didn't want to use the phone "unprotected".
I have replaced the housing of dozens of phones before so I know what I'm doing and what to look out for (I'm an electronics engineer) and replacing the housing of the HD2 was actually surprisingly easy.
When I put the phone back together again, it wouldn't turn on. At all. And when I put it on the charger, the charger light wouldn't come on. So I just opened up the housing again and put it back together. This time it did turn on. Figuring that was the end of it and that something probably wasn't making proper contact, I left it at that.
That was two weeks ago. Since then, the phone has been on all the time (in the charger) and I have been installing more stuff without any problems. Yesterday the protective silicon sleeve finally arrived so I inserted my SIM card and finally started using it as a proper phone. But today, all of a sudden it didn't want to turn on again. I had used the phone 10 minutes before (storing a contact).
I opened the housing again and checked if I could see anything loose, or not making proper contact but didn't see anything.
It still won't turn on again.
Is this HD2 deceased? The battery is fully charged BTW (and I tried another battery).
Anything I could try?
Triple check and make sure all battery pins are straight. when the battery is inserted, they need to be pressed down and inwards towards the middle of the phone. Be sure you don't have one being forced up or anything like that. I'd re open the case one more time and slightly bend the ground prongs on the board and flex cable assemblies back up just a hair to make sure they make good contact. Other than that the phone can actually power on without the back housing on at all so grounding to get it to power on isn't that crucial.
