Manually update DeX? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I'm still on the old Oreo beta 3 for Lapdock purposes, however, since DeX only updates with system updates, is there a way to manually update DeX?
Is there anyway to pull DeX from the Note 9 and install it on an S8?

Any advice?

Trying to install an older version of package didabler pro

So I'm trying to install pdp. App version 6.3 on nouget beta because I still want to be able to disable software updates. Now when I uploaded the update to my s7 edge (data intact) pdp 6.3 worked perfect ( app was installed before update). On my other s7 edge I installed the app after I had nouget on and I get the "activation notice" pictured below. This is after I install the .apk from my sd card. Anyone now how to work around this? Phone isn't rooted and the old apk does work on nouget but just has to be installed before the update to nouget. I just want to prepare incase I have to do a factory reset.

Just use the disabler standalone pc app in the main S7 Edge thread. Far easier and cannot accidentally be undone. I'll get you the link if you can't find it.

Be very careful not to disable/freeze to much stuff this way (just ota update packages if I were you) otherwise you could soft-brick your phone. Use EZ package disabler for everything else and don't forget to wipe the application's cache/data. EZ has option to clear all disabled packages and a lot of other features btw!

Why some s8 apps install and others not?

I have been having a hard time to understand why some of the S8 apps from apkmirror install just fine even after the April or May security patch, and others not.
And I am talking about the same app but different versions/updates of it.
For example:
The S8 AOD apk version 2.6.77.4 installs just fine even after May security patch. The versions after that or before that get the conflict error.
The S8 Touchwiz Home version 6.1.09.2 installs just fine even after the May security patch. Some versions before it get the conflict error.
Could a programmer or a more experienced member use a program like apkEdit, and try to find out what is the difference in the above versions that lets them be installed?
If we find what the difference is, then we may be able to see what should be done to get all apps installed after the April/May security patch, like the s8 weather apps.
I have installed June security patch.
Both the apk mentioned above worked for me too. Later version of AOD 2.7.05 couldn't be installed as there's package name conflict.
My deduction is some version of apks might work, hence I went to try Weather app on apkmirror.
Current version installed on my S7 Edge is 1.4.34-1 after June update, so the earlier version just prompted "file corrupted" when installing, and the only version available on apkmirror can't be installed.

System apps not updating in S8 Oreo

hi guys,
can you help me out here,
I am getting the 'App not installed' error while while updating system apps through apk files like Messages, Contacts, Gallery etc. (Oreo, Non-rooted)
In Galaxy Note 5, I am able to update them easily with no problem (Nougat, Non-rooted)
I dont want root in my device.
Is there any possible way I can update them easily because the built-in apps are much older.

How can I stop Verizon forced update? Phone is not rooted.

Most of the Verizon updates have been buggy and this one seems to follow that model. And my phone is currently working passably well -- except for the new popups that want me to update.
I turned off automatic updates under developer options, but that has had no effect. The update was downloaded without my consent. I want to stop the nagging and delete or rename the update file.
I have two different file manager programs but neither of them seem to be able to see the system folder, even though I have enabled the "show hidden files" option. I thought I could perhaps suss out the name of the update package by sorting by date but I can't even find the folder for it. I've tried X-Plore File Manager and Solid Explorer Classic but neither seems to show me the system folder. I am not very familiar with Android but have worked with Linux and Windows systems in the past.
I find it infuriating that Verizon can force software onto a phone that I own. I have a pre-pay plan so it was purchased with a one-time payment and not bought from Verizon. I'm tired of their buggy updates.
Here is what I did,,,which you should be able to do as long as you can root.
1. Root your phone using the easy root/unroot option in the dev section
2. Go to the play store and buy Package Disabler Pro,,,well worth the 1.50
3. Once you give Package Disabler Pro root permission find the two software update apps in the list and disable them.
4. Go back to the easy root/unroot thread and follow the easy directions to unroot. This will also wipe your devices cache,,,which is where your downloaded update is probably residing now hence the update notifications. It wont wipe your device just the cache as part of the unroot process.
5. Once your unrooted, and back to stock, you can check like I did and see that the two software update apps are still disabled and no more update notifications.
The only thing different would be the app names for Verizon updates as I am running U firmware on my Verizon S7 Edge so there is not a lot of bloatware that I had to disable from the start. Here is a screenshot on my apps unrooted. They are still disabled thank God lol.

Android 10 UI2 No app disable?

Hey, I updated my 2019 Tab A 8.0, SM-P205, to Android 10. I was on the fence about it, but I figured I'd like the security updates and to check it out. But, I find now that I can no longer 'disable' apps. When I go to Settings->Apps, the only options are 'open', 'uninstall', and 'force stop'. I am hoping I can still adb disable, but for non-system apps I should hope I wouldn't need to always resort to that. wtf?
Any ideas?
