[Q] Please help, can someone export the /vendor/ folder? - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

Hi guys!
I had an Essential phone before, but switch to a Pixel 2 XL. VoLTE was working before, but not anymore. So I started digging to get the VoLTE working with a bypass. I need someone to make an export of the /vendor/ folder, where certain .mbn files are stored. They contain certain provider related data which may get VoLTE working, in my case for a dutch provider.
So if you are rooted you could help me out!
Using any root explorer, copy the /vendor/ from the root to your sd card. Zip this folder and upload it to a Google Drive or something. Much obliged!
Thanks alot!

Believe me, I tried. The vendor folder (I think) gets populated once the Essential has been powered on once. I extracted literally everything I could to find these .mbn files. No luck.

Ah damn it, the mbn folder is not there. I guess it gets generated once the device has been booted once.
Do you have any idea where I can find the mcfg_sw.mbn file? :fingers-crossed:

Mbn file isn't something you would find there. Mbn is an image file for low level flashing in fast boot.

That is weird, then how does Essential get their mcfg_sw.mbn files for its lte network configuration? In a Pixel, there is a /vendor/mbn/mcfg/* folder containing provider configurations from almost all providers in the world.

It doesn't either in the Pixel, but after flashing and booting for or inserting a sim card for the first time makes it appear.
I don't know how this is possible, are you able to make a .mbn search inside other folders?

Since it's system-as-root I just wildcarded .mbn, nothing

Essential uses a compatibility matrix. Xml for a lot of the network stuff as far as i know and embedded deep in what we would call the device tree.so with the compatibility matrix they set the bools and its just true or false. Oh and in the manifest.. with each vendor img it seems they are simplifying it too, so probably the thing u are referencing is in there just as something else. Theres always a multitude of ways to hardcode something. If it was me i would hardcode it in the device tree source files and set it with bools. It allows for easy changes. And easier readability.

Thanks for the explaination. An example .mbn file can be found here: http://www.renovate-ice.com/svn/leedroid-11/trunk/system/vendor/mbn/mcfg/configs/mcfg_sw/generic/
Just browse inside the folders and you will bump to a mcfg_sw.mbn file eventually.
Any idea how to get something like this from the Essential?

Kitkat partition files

I was wondering if anyone has been able to pull the partition files for kitkat? I ask because I've seen people get their phone stuck in fastboot mode and being able to flash the proper image files will help fix their probs, however the only image files I know of are for JB. I would do it myself if I knew how....

even though that should work for getting stock partitions it doesn't give them to you in .img except for the system/userdata&cache partitions so you would only be able to fastboot flash those three partitions, all other partitions are in .bin format and unless there is a way to convert them to .img(I haven't found a working method yet) than they won't work

never actually tried, but it could work(if bender says it does than it should) somebody would just need to test that theory with all the partitions, but it still doesn't allow me to explore the persist.bin renamed to .img(that contains the rct check I want to do some test with it)

So I was able to pull all the partitions for the Verizon variant (VS980). They are currently in in .bin format. Not sure if I should change them to .img tho. Haven't tested any of the files yet so on looking to see if anyone is brave enough to try lol.

Using the tool mentioned earlier you can get the system into a .img, so that you an tinker with it/I already tried with the persist.bin and rename to persist.img worked but I haven't tested anything else since I've been working on other things, otherwise anything you need to know let me know and I can test on my side

you can use this test zip I made to flash the bootanimation(unzip it, place the bootanimation inside system/media/ and then rezip)
you can use bootanimation factory to add the loops to the bootanimation, the rest is up to you

Thanks a lot, any idea how to wrote the .txt file? Like what I'd need I understand the part 0,1,etc. And the resolution I just don't know what else or exactly how to write. Or would it be easier to use the factory?

I I know that part 0 is the folder, 1 is usually the loops for the folder and the other number I don't remember; the resolution of the pictures is at the top, and next to it is usually the fps but I prefer to use the factory because this way it never fails

[MOD] [TETHERING] Native Tethering Enable for 1.82.605.6

If all you want to do to your phone after obtaining s-off with SunShine and flashing TWRP is to have native tethering enabled, then this mod is for you. Simply download to your phone storage and flash via TWRP. The only thing this mod does is to flash a copy of default.xml with the modifications required to enable native tethering.
NOTE: This is specifically for the latest firmware, version 1.82.605.6. If you're not on that version, check out this thread to update your firmware.

Doubtful, as I'm pretty certain default.xml is carrier specific. It likely would work on other builds, but you'd be risking a soft brick if you flashed this on a phone for a different carrier.
It's quite easy to make your own. First, use a file manager to copy the default.xml file from /system/customize/ACC to the sd card, copy the file to your computer, make the necessary edits to the file, (follow part 1 of this post) and use a tool like muCommander to open the patch that I posted and inject your newly edited default.xml. Make sure once you copy your file over the one included in my patch that you change the permissions to 644.
If that's beyond your skills, post your default.xml and I'll make the patch for you when I have the time.

Sounds like it's going to be a very white winter. But I'm cool with it. I'm a bit of an optimist when it comes to winter: it's the season when all the bugs die. BTW, I'm located roughly 25 miles SW of Mankato, literally in the middle of nowhere.

[REQUEST][H918][FILES] /data/ipsec/wo file dump please

Hi all,
Trying to work on getting VoLTE and WiFi Calling working on T-Mobile for H990DS devices.
I noticed that APNs are correct but my /data/ipsec/wo is empty.
If someone could paste their files from that folder I'd be incredibly grateful.
Thanks!
Boxy
Oh and also, if you could tell me the permissions for the files in that folder as well.
Thanks!
If anyone's reading this with an H918, please help me out I'll be forever grateful.
The dump shouldn't take long! Just need a file explorer and navigate to data/ipsec/wo and grab the files.
Please and thank you!

Hey, thanks for your response!
If you've got access to a computer, we can accomplish this without root using adb.
Once adb is installed on your computer and you've enabled USB debugging on your phone, just type the following in a command prompt from your adb directory:
adb devices <------ this should pull up your device. It might ask you to authenticate the computer fingerprint on your V20, just click yes and remember.
adb pull /data/ipsec/wo/ <--- this will pull all files in that folder.
Thanks in advance!

Would you mind sending me a screenshot of your APNs as well?
Thanks!
EDIT: So I found something interesting... it seems there's possibly a lot more files in /data/ipsec/ that I do not have. For example, the .conf files in /wo/ call upon files from data/ipsec/updown_script

Thank you everyone for your help! I've got these in, going to see if I can somehow magically enable VoLTE.
Before all of this I was able to toggle it on and off but the setting wouldn't stick - it would default to off again. Perhaps if the phone can read these .conf files I'll have better luck.

Do you have more than one apn option. That might explain the extra file in the wo folder that I don't have or it could just be the different rom. I opened both of your files from the wo folder and they are very similar, but a little different.

"Meet" notification

Hi guys, I am a OP 5T user. I found out while watching a review that OP introduced a new "meet" notification sound in their latest flagship.
Since I wasn't able to find it anywhere, can anyone of you guys please upload it here or help me find it?
Thanks
Idk how to open it atm. These used to not be stored in .bin format. Technically, you could prolly put it in a magisk module and maybe that way, get it put in system to play? Alternatively, if you know how I can locate it better or so, I can do that too.
(Uploaded with .zip extension. Just delete .zip)

You know what. I feel dumb. I searched, but I searched poorly. I also thought they were here: /system/media/audio/
I was wrong. I searched, and found it's in a different location. I EVEN HAD FILE MANAGER SEARCH MEET and it only came up with that file. Ugh. Here you go. Sorry for the inconvenience.
This time, change .zip to .ogg and you'll be good to go.
