Kitkat partition files - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if anyone has been able to pull the partition files for kitkat? I ask because I've seen people get their phone stuck in fastboot mode and being able to flash the proper image files will help fix their probs, however the only image files I know of are for JB. I would do it myself if I knew how....

even though that should work for getting stock partitions it doesn't give them to you in .img except for the system/userdata&cache partitions so you would only be able to fastboot flash those three partitions, all other partitions are in .bin format and unless there is a way to convert them to .img(I haven't found a working method yet) than they won't work

Hmm....interesting. I did not know that. Maybe I'll ask one of the devs and see if they have a solution to that. Thanks for the tip.

never actually tried, but it could work(if bender says it does than it should) somebody would just need to test that theory with all the partitions, but it still doesn't allow me to explore the persist.bin renamed to .img(that contains the rct check I want to do some test with it)

So I was able to pull all the partitions for the Verizon variant (VS980). They are currently in in .bin format. Not sure if I should change them to .img tho. Haven't tested any of the files yet so on looking to see if anyone is brave enough to try lol.

Using the tool mentioned earlier you can get the system into a .img, so that you an tinker with it/I already tried with the persist.bin and rename to persist.img worked but I haven't tested anything else since I've been working on other things, otherwise anything you need to know let me know and I can test on my side

Actually I messaged bender and he said I only have to change it from .bin to .img. No tool needed.

[REQUEST] recovery/repair image Xperia Play

can someone who has not unlocked their bootloader go through the "repair" process in either one of the software updaters located here
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup...teyourproductsoftware/xperia-play?cc=gb&lc=en
when it downloads the repair image for your phone it will stores it on your computer probably somewhere in this folder
C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson
or
start>run> %temp%
the file will be ~100mb or more
if someone can download that file and upload it to any media shareing website it would be greatly appreciated
I and we will need this for custom roms, root, and recovery if something goes afoot.
many thanks,
grant
EDIT: just an FYI this is different than the system.img /system dump that is floating around the recovery contains the boot.img, nv.img radio.img and among other things
hi johnsongrantr i just bought an xperia play sim free locked bootloader. I am new to the android front (newbie) been an iphone user for a while, if you explain what i need to do to get the recovery img i am more than happy to help

C:\ProgramData\Sony Ericsson\Update Engine\db\13740270\blob_fs
is where it will be and it will be called something like: FILE_277919341 and will be 157MB
Just done it but that file cant be opened even with magiciso like other roms can.
there is this as well:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup...etailed/updateservice/xperia-play?cc=gb&lc=en
interestingly the above software tells you to press the back key before plugging in the usb!

thanks, if you or anyone else is following along at home, universal extractor http://legroom.net/software/uniextract can extract *most* archive files unless it is heavily encrypted... then more digging I must do.
BUT... if that works, how to inject root access to a already compiled boot.img + ram disk have a look at this guide
http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=HOWTO:_Unpack,_Edit,_and_Re-Pack_Boot_Images
read the whole article but pay attention to the "alternative method" where you modify default.prop and change the line ro.secure=1 to ro.secure=0
that's basically all there is to it. Lets hope we can cleanly extract the contents of that file shall we
Already tried that as well bud just shows me a log file and thats it.
Need to rename it to use uniextract but nothing is accepted it fails on all
I litterly have no idea how we get the image file short of jtagging it!
how did they get it for the arc?

well I'll just have to look at it then
shouldn't need jtagging, might be able to get an unsecure x10/or arc boot.img to boot enough to pull the info we need, but I don't want to even start messing with that junk yet
was this before or after the source for the arc was released?
http://developer.sonyericsson.com/w.../download/so-01cgingerbread30d279?cc=gb&lc=en
they might have just compiled from source.... sadly, the play doesn't have it's source out yet
EDIT:x10/ or arc
not sure been following the arc threads for a while they havent rooted yet but they are leaps ahead of us we cant make stage 1.
cant get an answer yet as to how they got it, ive posted but waiting on a reply

If you go to "downloads" on top of that page, the sourecode for Gingerbread Xperia (Arc AND Play) are there, the one you link is not Arc. Seems all Xperia (new) is compiled from same source.

if you already know what it is, then you should remember that part was stored inside the kernel ramdisk and cannot modified by any means except kernel customization. sorry, but it's a lil bit unpleasant to see such random advice like above one.

sorry but my knowledge in linux based systems is limited,
and how can a partition which enables deletion of files not able to restore files in the same partition,
at least that's what i know,
can a installation of a kernel work?

EDIT:
Airdroid says the .lfs folder is gone...
Root explorer lite says, the content is gone but it says it modifited on Jan 01, 1970 01:00:00 AM (Y2K bug?)
EDIT2: Can I entry the Download mode when the jigusb_dl_flag was in .lfs?
well...if we didn't have the knowledge to answer a question, it will be better if we didn't answer that. or else, he will confused by our answer or make us looks stupid. honestly, I didn't even know what lfs partition is. it seems that you know it better than me (lol).
back to the topic...I don't know what it is but lfs partition is locked and cannot modified without certain program. that's what they told to me about our device hidden partition. if the folder is gone, it could be simply accidentally unmounted. after reboot you'll get it again under /mnt

Reboot your phone. Then go to root explorer then it goes ba k because it is from kernel not frm phone.
Hello
When you try to modify that partition...all images will be gone....
As sir kurotsugi said its kernel issue....
Just reboot your phone you will see all the files again
You have to reboot your phone to see those files again
Globally recognised and certified NOOB
Simple answers..
Someone with knowledge on kernel hack that part and u already know who is the person..
Only change kernel or change hacking file with original (on kernel of course) can solve the problem..

you can use this test zip I made to flash the bootanimation(unzip it, place the bootanimation inside system/media/ and then rezip)
you can use bootanimation factory to add the loops to the bootanimation, the rest is up to you

How get system apps from srock firmware (How extract system.Img.ext4).........

(Solved):
How extract system.Img.ext4 to get system apps from stock firmware????
I tried ext4unpacker and sgstoext4 but I failed.
Yeah I tried that too but I think since Lollipop it doesn't work on Windows. So I guess Linux is the only option here. But please let me know if you come across one such software for Windows.

ithehappy I found the solution. Use this app. Very easy to use. I unpacked note 4 910f stock firmware using this.
First extract and get system.Img. ext4
Then rename it as system.Img
Copy file to the sofware folder and run extractor.bat thats all. ......

[Q] Please help, can someone export the /vendor/ folder?

Hi guys!
I had an Essential phone before, but switch to a Pixel 2 XL. VoLTE was working before, but not anymore. So I started digging to get the VoLTE working with a bypass. I need someone to make an export of the /vendor/ folder, where certain .mbn files are stored. They contain certain provider related data which may get VoLTE working, in my case for a dutch provider.
So if you are rooted you could help me out!
Using any root explorer, copy the /vendor/ from the root to your sd card. Zip this folder and upload it to a Google Drive or something. Much obliged!
Thanks alot!

That is weird, then how does Essential get their mcfg_sw.mbn files for its lte network configuration? In a Pixel, there is a /vendor/mbn/mcfg/* folder containing provider configurations from almost all providers in the world.

It doesn't either in the Pixel, but after flashing and booting for or inserting a sim card for the first time makes it appear.
I don't know how this is possible, are you able to make a .mbn search inside other folders?
Since it's system-as-root I just wildcarded .mbn, nothing

Essential uses a compatibility matrix. Xml for a lot of the network stuff as far as i know and embedded deep in what we would call the device tree.so with the compatibility matrix they set the bools and its just true or false. Oh and in the manifest.. with each vendor img it seems they are simplifying it too, so probably the thing u are referencing is in there just as something else. Theres always a multitude of ways to hardcode something. If it was me i would hardcode it in the device tree source files and set it with bools. It allows for easy changes. And easier readability.

Thanks for the explaination. An example .mbn file can be found here: http://www.renovate-ice.com/svn/leedroid-11/trunk/system/vendor/mbn/mcfg/configs/mcfg_sw/generic/
Just browse inside the folders and you will bump to a mcfg_sw.mbn file eventually.
Any idea how to get something like this from the Essential?
