So i will get the phone on Tuesday, do i need to charge it overnight first before using it?
Is the "thing" still apply until now?
Or
After i receive the phone, and i can use it immediately ? Like, installing my apps, playing games at the same day?
Or maybe i need to charge it to 100% first?
Maybe discharge with some task to 0%, and charge it 100% without any distrub?
I'm still curious..
I still need some answer, or maybe what u guys did to ur phone
I think discharging to 0% and then charging it to 100% would prove to be the best options

If you plan to use the phone less than 2 years you can charge all the way till 100 and drain till 0.
And if you plan on using it for a long time(>3 years) keep the levels between 20 and 70.
This video explains why : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AF2O4l1JprI&t=338s

I just crossed the 350 hour mark and shooting for 1000 hours of uptime. This started as an experiment to see how long it would take without a reboot for the phone to slow down. So far, it's still running as fast as it typically does after a reboot.
How about you guys? I think I'm going to try and see if I can hit a month without rebooting.
I'm at the 250 hour mark now and the only reason it's not higher is because I've run it completely dry of battery a couple of times
edit:
Getting my 1600mAh and 2800mAh batteries from Seidio today though, so the counter is gonna reset again ;(
Iam on 380 hours of uptime in writing moment

With those new batteries how much longer can you expect to be able to use it say with standard use?
Mine lasts a full day mostly so far. Just curious.
Cheers,

I didn't look at mine. I normally don't have uptime of more than 24 hours since I frequently have to reboot to check the function of my morphs.
I've had about 280 before. Since I've rooted though, there's a bug in the superboot that I've done that wrecks the phone every other day or so. Something with memory card access. I'm trying to find a rock-solid ROM with himem and root. Speaking of that, suggestions?

This is the wrong thread for that, but I'd suggest trying all of them and testing yourself. That's part of the fun.
305 hours, had to reboot due to sms/signal issues.
Once and a while I will have service but will be unable to send sms. Weird.

(I'm not speaking of stability here, but for those of trying new things we're always flashing )
I'm currently at 117 hours on Modaco's Desire Alpha10
Personally I'd say anything over 1 week (168 hours) is just awesome for me.

A little off-topic but ok. It's just simple math really, the standard battery is 1400mAh. The 1600mAh would therefore last 14% longer and the 2800mAh battery would last twice as long as the 1400mAh battery.
I'm at 630 hours right now. Probably the most I have seen it at but yeah, I don't really check that much. Do I win a prize?

Can't you plug it into the wall jack so that you don't loose power while changing the battery? I can do this with my tilt. My previous phone had a switch on the battery door that shut it off. I'm not sure about the N1.
Mine is at 1171 beat me?

Lies.
That's 100% impossible.
Preparing...
With the phone in the on position.
Fully charge the battery with the phone on... (until the led turns green.)
Once the led turns green, unplug the charger until the led goes off.
After the led goes off, plug the charger back in. When the led turns green , power off the phone.
now.... with the phone fully powered off...
1. Unplug the charger.
2. Wait until led goes off.
3. Plug charger back in until the led turns green. When it turns green, unplug the charger again and go to step 1.
4. repeat steps 1 and 3, 10 times. This may take anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 mins per cycle. Typically only about 1 minute. though.
DO NOT DRAIN THE BATTERY. The goal is not to empty the battery and recharge like ni-cads (those have memory, these don't). These are lithiums, so we need to do the opposite...
And lets all sing the hokie pokie and shout
The cells were not charged evenly, so each cell holds different charges. So when you charge it, 1 cell may be 95% another 100 and 98 etc... so when you balance the cells, they function like they are suppose to.
this phone does not have a cell balancer built into it.
So charge, wait til its almost dead, charge again til full, then do the process w the phone off?

I'm sorry this guide doesn't really make much sense. the led won't be on if the phone is unplugged so how will I know if its on Orange or not? also is the phone on or off when I'm doing this?

changed the instructions on top, i suck at writing.
I suppose this might explain why sometimes my phone plunges to about 90% almost immediately after taking it off the charger, but then battery decreases at a "normal" rate after that?
So were reconditioning our batteries...
I'm 99.9% sure the battery is single cell...it wouldn't make sense to have a dual cell 3.7v LiPo unless you wanted heavy discharge.
I don't see how this will make any charge other than the phone not topping the battery off...which in that case an external charger would do a much better job is so.
I tried this and my battery has been holding steady at 100% with the screen off for the last five minutes so something worked.
So is this a one time thing to re-condition the battery or will we have to do this more then once

That's true, won't hurt anything. WTF I'll give it a try, maybe get proven wrong and learn something too..
I gave this a try and I must say that it is working. Before I did this, as soon as I would take my phone off the charger it would immediately drop to 96%. Now as david279 said, it will actually stay on 100% for awhile and have better standby time. Good find joker, I do see a difference.
How did you find out about the cells not being charged evenly?

Is that even possible?

I was also told to charge for 4 hours.. but it is no longer needed for Li-Ion,Li-poly batteries.. even the user manual doesn't say anything about initial charging..
Page 12 of the user manual..
"When the battery is fully charged (the battery icon is
no longer moving), unplug the travel adapter from the
device and then from the power outlet."
Hmm, thanks. Can anyone verify that i don't need to charge it for 8 hours or whatever before turning it on?
I got it yesterday and I just put it on charge and after a few minutes I turned it on and started using it and honestly battery life is great so far so imagine that, if it's good from the beginning then after 1-2 weeks it will be amazing!
just use it anytime you want, keep it on charge if you want while using it, nothing bad will happen.

Just charge it till full....switched on or off is up to ya.
Wicked. Means i don't have to wait about for ages without using it. Gonna mess around with it whilst it's charging.
of course, some will tell you otherwise....i've used several phones just like that, and didn't have any problems with battery life. But never say never....
I think the title says it all, with a few of us hopefully getting our phones over the next few days, am wondering how long the initial charge should be.
I'm know in times gone by they used to recommended 16 hrs first charge but how long should we charge for (am hoping you guys advise not long as I won't be able to wait to play with it).

One review, think it might've been Eldar's, said that a full charge took around 3 hours. If that's true, it's pretty amazing.
I don't think batteries really suffer very much from "battery memory" anymore, so you could probably just turn it on while it's charging! (I did with my Hero and it's fine.)

Hmmm we are not really sure at the moment, however, dombledore and staceymobiler can give you that information as they are the only two people here in the forum who have retail SGS2(AFAIK). Also, I am pretty sure that the documentation that will come with the phone will definitely have the details mentioned Just a few more days to go for you to get your hands on that!
Enjoy! And hope that helped
You can charge whatever amount you want, whenever you want. Modern batteries DO NOT require an initial charge, and can be used right out of the box. Out of the box, they'll come with around a half charge, so you can use that half charge before charging, or you can change immediately if you want. It doesn't matter at all.
You charge until the message appears in the notification bad "charge complete, please unplug".
There is no need to charge LITHIUM batteries for 16 hours the first time.
Further, the batt will come with some charge - you can safely use it up first, and charge later.

Hey! Didnt know that!! was still stuck with the old mindset that i will have to charge the new phone out of the box for a specified amount of time and only then will i have be able to use it to avoid the memory effect. Are you saying that this is not required anymore?! wow!

Not with Lithium based batteries. Which is good, cause I'm not very good at charging new toys before use.
Hello,
I just tested what i will explain to you and i wanna share with you guys.
For me it works and i really feel an improvement with my battery life ( ~4 or 5 hours + ) and i think it is ok.
Now...what i've did...
1. Power on your DHD and let him to charge 8 / 10 hours
2. Unplug cable charger and power off your device. After that, when device is off, plug again charger and let it 1 hour for offline charging.
3. Unplug again cable charger, power on phone, wait till OS loading and start up, and immediately power off again.
4. Let the phone to charge again for 1 hour ( phone is power off )
5. Power on and let me know if you will see any improvement
IF AFTER THAT PROCESS YOU WILL FLASH ANOTHER ROM, ALL THAT STEPS MUST BE REPEATED.
.....and sorry guys for my f... bad english

I think it was not necessary to tell me that...Anyway sorry if my thread disturbed u so much.
I wrote that cause maybe someone will need 4-5 hours. If you will be like me ( going all over the places in Europe for meeting or doing business, it will count that poor 4-5 hours when will really need to send an e-mail and don't have a charger in your car for the moment...
I've found that all you really need to do is charge until currentwidget displays 0 ma draw, and restart once to let the phone top off the battery from the amount drained after the charge stops.

that was only the first part....here comes the second:
6. Turn off your phone.
7. Charge the phone until the next full moon.
8. Run around naked until the cops catch you.
After that you will never need to worry about your phone's battery life again because you will be locked up and won't need a phone.
But seriously:
Whoever actually considers doing this is a complete moron.
Its called bump charging was discussed 500 times already and is potentionally DAMAGING for your battery in the long run.

Thanks bogdy87, I love your thread! I could use an extra 4-5 hours as my battery only lasts for 4-8 hours!
thank you for your advise,i will try it by myself
Doing this will get you more use per charge, but 6 months of this and your battery will be shot. Charge limiters are put in place for a reason, lithium ion breaks down at too high of a charge. Your battery your choice, I get great life on mine and I just plug it in at night. Bump charging is short sighted. Personally I think this misleading thread should just be taken down before we get flooded with users that have ruined their battery or the voltage regulator on the board by doing this. What it essentially is doing is pushing a little more current into the battery before it completes its battery voltage checks.

Adaptive battery stats ROM
Some ROMS (Revolution) use an adaptive battery stats procedure which cuts out the need to go through the drain charge process. Just use the phone and it'll take care of itself. Battery drain is much more to do with use and processes than the battery stats file.
