I have had no problems keeping the hotspot setting on CRE1. As long as you do not update your PRL your settings should stick. I have been using this hotspot trick since it was first introduced. If you update your PRL you will need to follow the steps again.

Uh yeah my Hotspot works great(cre1) but as already said try not to update the prl or you will have to start over..
EDIT:CRG7 JULY all is well

Finally received the latest N950USQU5CRG7 update. Updated and the hotspot setting is still in place. :good:

Same for me. Still working on CRE1. Anyone get the update from the 13th? I'm not gonna take it until I know I'll have hotspot.

I took the update, hotspot still working for me.

My phone got the newest oreo update a few days ago and I noticed my profile updated itself tonight. I attempted to open the apn settings with shortcut master lite but everything was greyed out and unable to edit anything. I followed your instructions starting with the dialer (##27263#) to reset the provisioning parameters. I clicked on yes and let the phone do its thing. Once rebooted the apn settings were available to edit again in SML and all is working again. I didn't need to downgrade to crd7, install odin files or wipe cache. Thanks for your help and hope this post helps someone.

Yep, that's what I had to do after it did the Update Profile/PRL on its own.

Thanks, apparently it work, will be testing it for awhile.

I know that my Prl has updated on its own sometimes and i've had to use the 'BRAND' to reset the apn to put "DUN", but rn i'm CRG7, I used bk package disabler to disable 'sprint omadm' so my prl wont automatically update. Its worked since and hasnt reset.

Just updated to CRG9 (August 1 security update). Mod is still in place.

Same...

yeah BRAND seems to work all the way up to the latest update

Has anyone confirmed this to be working after the 53.68 mb patch?

53.68 mb patch?
It's working with the latest update for SM-N950U 184.83 mb patch.
Current Version: N950USQS5CRG9
Security patch level: August 1, 2018

Still working on September 1st patch CRI4.

Sept 1 patch is out
I have it on my phone
but waiting for one of you guys to update first and tell me if Hotspot still works
I can't risk losing my hotspot.....thanks guys

does any one have the N950USQS5CR14 update working for the hot spot?

still works

personally i found it easier to statically assign the IP configuration information for the 2 networks I use, plus my version wasn't listed for the patch anyway. I also renamed the files in /data/misc/dhcp/ to correct the issue where stuck on assigning IP address in wireless connection (where it basically repeatedly attempts to get an IP address)
*edit*
Here you go BatPenguin. This is the PDF file that comes with the zip for how to properly install the patch
***EDIT***
I was beat to it lol.

Omg I'm an idiot. I didn't even see that my version isn't even listed -_-
So thenfact I installed it shouldn't mess my tab up right? Ugh such an idiot.
*edit* I just uninstalled the patch lol. No sense in keeping it if its not for my device anyway. I keep forgetting my tab is not my computer and downloads, zips, etc should be done there first.
........................................
I got the 3.1 OTA update today. Could not connect to WiFi after installation. Did the paperclip reset routine a few times but no luck.
Considered installing this patch but noticed it was not for my build and had second thoughts. But I installed it anyway and after a reboot, my WiFi was working again.
I'm guessing that Acer's list of supported builds is not all-inclusive. If your Wifi stopped working after the HC 3.1 update try using the patch posted above.
Well, I'm in the boat as many of you. The download came in at just after midnight local and after 90% of the install messed up the wifi. I downloaded the patch and tried to install it multiple times with no change in the ability to connect. The tab will see all the networks in my area but it gets into a loop cycle trying to connect and after a minute or so will disable the wifi. I even went so far as to go through the factory reset process and install the patch afterwards with no luck.
At this point it's nothing more than a fancy color reader. Is there a way to re-flash the entire OS with the original Acer version? I have been rooted but don't have a desire to flash any custom ROMs yet. If this is not possible it'll have to go back to Acer and who knows how long that will take....just in time for my trip next month.
Just to err on the safe side it is a US tablet living the Middle East, not that it should matter.
There are plenty of stock ROM's in the dev section you can flash with. Their threads are clearly labelled as such.
Well, I went through the level 1 gauntlet at Acer and they have passed me off to a level 2. I don't have high expectations but it will be a PITA to call considering my hours and my location.
"Australia/New Zealand
- Affected OS versions:
Acer_A500_4.010.12_COM_GEN1
Acer_A500_4.010.24_COM_GEN1
- After installing the update, you are advised update your tablet’s operating system to:
Acer_A500_4.010.40_COM_GEN1"
I already have the update "Acer_A500_4.010.40_COM_GEN1" showing for download.
Does this one include the wifi fix?
(I have no interest in updating from 3.01 to 3.1 becasue of the wifi problem, so if it's not fixed, I'll stay as I am.)
Yes, it does.
Thanks for that - I might let it update now..

fist of all this is not the problem that's supposed to be fixed by the patch. your problem is more simple, check or reenter the wifi password. because it is normal for wifi connection to be removed if it cannot connect to it because of the luck of the password. also make sure your router is supporting wpa/tsk or wpa2/tsk.
because i think that has changed since 3.01 wich also supported WEP, which might not be the case anymore.
the problem people have is that the dhcp is not working after the password is entered. i.e. it dispalys waiting for IP, and never gets it, but it does not remove any networks from the list.
I've been down that path and reentered the password at least a half a dozen times. Up until the most recent update that was pushed was 90% installed and then stalled out out I have had no issues on this network or others.
Your second statement more closely matches the issue that I'm having.
Not happy with Acer. Those of us who use this forum may be able to apply patches to correct problems caused by their upgrades, but think how many people have lost all connectivity when they applied the 3.1 update.
How is it possible that Acer, which has been working on update issues for a month or more, pushes an update that takes out our wireless connection? And why do the users have to assume the burden of solving the problem, locating the patch and applying it?
Doesn't the company test their upgrade before pushing it out? Were they not aware of the havoc it caused?
I like my tablet a lot, but the Acer customer experience is frustrating and hard to understand.
I was able to speak with Karen a level 2 tech rep and we went through a few easy steps and it seems ot have fixed my issue.
begin with the tablet turned off
- press and hold the volume up button (I assume it must be in landscape because she stated it was the button closest the rotation lock)
- press and hold the power button until the light comes on, continue holding the volume button
- as soon as the tablet vibrates begin flipping the rotation lock back and forth as quickly as you can until you see small words in the upper left corner. I had to do this twice because I didn't flip it fast enough.
- once the words appear (erasing cache and such) you can stop switching the rotation lock and let off the volume button.
- It will do its thing and reboot to the original home screen
I had already tried a factory reset but she made it sound as though this would completely reset the tablet and wipe everything. At any rate it seems to have worked. I'm going to try and re-download 4.010.10, root it, re-install Titanium Pro and re-install all my apps and I'm back in business
Give it a try and see if it works.

How do i get 7.0 on this tablet?

I just got this tablet from Amazon and it came with Android 6.0 and it says there is not an update available. How do I get stock 7.0 on it? I had read reviews that said it was updated which is one of the reasons I bought it.
I never got an OTA for 7 I had to use Firmware Finder in the play store. It found it, downloaded it and installed it.

Here’s how I upgraded. Reposted from another forum.
The update checker was a non-starter for me until I used it with firmware finder and bypassed having to use a micro+SD card in order to upgrade to EMUI 5. First, I picked the 2.5gb file option within firmware finder which is basically EMUI 5, chose the get an update using dns beta option. Added the dns address that firmware finder provided to my wifi settings by holding down your wifi, choosing modify network, tick advanced options, change settings to static, and then change the dns to the one provided by firmware finder. From there, it downloaded the file, but once finished it passed it on to Huawei's upgrader app and it took over from there. Just remember to remove the dns address from your wifi settings when finished. As I mentioned didn't need to use a SD card and once finished, checked the Huawei updator again and there was another small update available. I thought it was the easiest way to upgrade without having to do too many steps. Once the file was passed on to the Huawei upgrader, it did all the work.
Mediapad M3 Upgrade
Dear friend I have also bought these wonderful tablets these days, I have the same problem, so I installed "firmware finder" app so I can download the new firmware for emui 5.0 btv-w09c100b302, I do not know if the procedure is correct, light forums before upgrade, I would like someone to tell me if I can proceed safely with the upgrade, thank you
I posted how I did it above and it’s correct, and it’s safe. Follow the directions.
okay it's not super clear with Firmware Finder version 6.6 but I finally watched enough videos to figure it out.
Install Firmware Finder
Tap on your model number (should pop up right away at top)
Tap on latest FULL version
Check Firmware access
Tap IN-APP PROXY
Goto wifi settings and press hold your wifi
tap modify
show advanced
PROXY select manual
Proxy hostname: localhost
Proxy port 8080
save or connect
Go to Settings
system update
check for update. It should then show an update. Tap and let it download and install.
Edit: I do not recall having to change the DNS setting. I just checked and mine was still set to DHCP so I am sure I did not change it. Once done with update though do go back and remove the Proxy setting.

I got a BTV-W09C128B005 FW version (USA from Amazon). Updater didn't show any updates. I downloaded a two folder update. I unpacked them (.zip) and put on an SD card under 'dload'. I pressed the vol up/ vol down and power to start the update. It worked and went to BTV-W09C128B350. I then deleted the contents of the 'dload' folder on the SD card, and replaced them with the unpacked USA data upgrade files. The data folder included a lot of app .apks including one called 'bluetooth'. The force update for the 2nd set of files took very little time, and it didn't seem to do anything. It didn't update or install any apps from the data folder, and the vers. stayed at B350. Now bluetooth won't turn on, and the 'update' app is missing from the 'settings' menus. I can't use the other update methods because they use the missing update app.
Huawei cust. support chat assured me that the Android 7 update (OTA) would arrive if I was patient enough. (6 months, yeah right.)
I'm returning this to Amazon to start over. This time I'm going to try other methods that use the updater app, or log into the PC program HiSuite to see if it pushes the update properly.
You chose the complicated way to upgrade. My input ( above ) for how to upgrade is a lot easier and is less riskier as Huawei's upgrade software is involved. Your call, but if you hit a brick wall on other ways to upgrade, consider my suggestion.
Thanks dude (@b4u2), worked like a charm!

I like it too with Android 7.0 , despite all the bloatware apps (I'm coming from a Nexus 7).

For me they installed without firmware finder. Right after first boot, I went to System Settings, and the Update section showed the OTA update. It installed 2. Only thing disappointing is that they haven't released an update to fix KRACK yet.

I stupidly tried an SD card method first, and ended up with an upgraded tablet with no Bluetooth and keyboard issues. Finally got back to original state and followed @callanish method. Worked beautifully and easily. Anyone else looking to update, I'd suggest this easy method that works. Thanks @callanish! (seriously registered here just to say thanks)

I wasn't so lucky: I had to install it with Firmware Finder (only the one of ~500MB).
Can you please tell me which security patch level do you have ?
I have those of May 2017.
That's what I have, May if 2017. I also used firmware finder and to my knowledge, that's the newest available for this tablet.

I did this too, because the instructions in FF app were crap for the other methods. I found the SD card method and ran with it. It didn't put the USA data files on that included the keyboard and bluetooth, and updater app.
I had to return mine to Amazon and try again using the DNS / Updater app method on FF. This time it worked great! This tablet is sooo much better with updated launcher and Android 7.
How on earth did you get it back to original state without sending it back?

I think there is a security patch level more recent than May '17.
I got my US version with the B005 FW vers. It had a SP level of something like Aug '17 (I don't remember exactly, but it after May of this year.)
It showed no updates in the updater app, but I upgraded it using FF app, and now it says May '17 for the SP level.
I don't think Huawei ever intended US versions to get the Android 7 update because it doesn't comply with current SP levels.
Hi all, I have a question, when I open Firmware Finder I have a list of 4 FullOTA (see attached screenshot), all with the same release date, how can I choose the right one?
@fidrat I worded that poorly. I used the same technique you did, started with a new one.

Missing OEM Unlock Option.

Alright so im dead set on rooting my phone once i realised why the **** not. Im used to jailbreaking iphones and i used to do that alot. (man its so much more complicated on android).
and im god damn stuck on the first step already.
the freaking OEM unlock option is missing??? Im into the developer mode. its not there. Now i know you have to wait 7 Days, but ive had the phone for 2 months. Is it because Ive just updated it to oreo and it reset that timer so now i have to wait seven days... (im sadly a pretty impatient person, im trying to do this at 2am instead of sleeping)
I have an international version and i know its possible. Ive got the SM-G950F Model
Please help. theres so many different guides for so many separate things and old posts and different phones and models and situations.. :c
Same problem here. BUMP!!!
I have also the same problem. my model is G955f Exynos. after flashing official Oreo Rom, CRB7, then updating that to CRE3, I can flash nothing again, not TWRP, not Cf-root, not even nougat Rom. I have tried different versions of Odin, TWRP, and Cf-root but no result. And there is also no damn OEM unlock in Developers options. Does anyone have any solution?
someone has posted here a software named "Cygwin". Its Linux tool, so hard and complicated to use for me.
If anyone can find how to use "Cygwin" to erase Nand and flash again, please reply.
the post Address is this;

Thank you so much for your idea
1. Disable auto date/time.
2. I set my date 1 or 2 previous months ago.
3. In developer options, I disabled auto system update.
4. In Software update menu, I disable auto download update.
5. Lastly, click the "manually download update" ,I received an error but that's okay.
6. Reboot.

I don't have Note 8 so I can't be sure but there's no harm with the steps I mentioned.
I actually tried to re flash it clean again(for the 2nd time) with Odin, and @altai1963's trick work again.
Why need 7 or more days when you can do this?
Just try it and let others know if it works for Note 8
Goodluck!

I don't own Note 8. I needed it for the article, it will be published on the XDA portal in a couple of minutes.
Does not work for me. Every time I reboot it shows todays date and no OEM unlock.
I go to "date and time" and set to 6 weeks ago, press done.
Disable auto update time.
Disable Auto update system
Disable download updates automatically
press download manually, get error "couldn`t download update"
reboot, and time goes back to today.
What am I doing wrong.

You just need to make sure your date doesnt revert to current date time after you reboot.
Can you try turning off the sim slot? or airplane mode(then turn wifi on)so that wifi is the only wireless connection u have.
I believe mobile data/sim network auto. adjusts ur time. Let me know if this works

Nope, same issue. Airplane mode, no sim,
could be that i have june update installed ???
I can set time forward and it stays set but going back always reverts to 26th june for some reason. not even todays date.
edit: ok, think i`ve solved it. I re-flashed stock firmware on Monday as I had "only official binaries" error, could that be why I cant go back further than a couple of days? It`s the only thing i can think of why I have this problem.

Same thing happenig to me...doesn't matter if i even turn the wifi off and take out the sim card, after reboot it shows the current date.
Any confirmation whatsoever on the Note 8? Have people seriously been so scared off by the OEM Unlock issue that no-one has bought a new one recently, lol???

Does not work for me. Every time I reboot it shows todays date and no OEM unlock.
I go to "date and time" and set to 6 weeks ago, press done.
Disable auto update time.
Disable Auto update system
Disable download updates automatically
press download manually, get error "couldn`t download update"
reboot, and time goes back to today.
What am I doing wrong.

Sorry I cant help u with that where DATE & TIME is not sticking after reboot.
Im not sure whats the real cause but for me, the steps / bypass for OEM Unlock option is still working to me until now.
My device is SM-G950FD Dual XTC CRED build
sign into your google account (Must do)
and sign into your Samsung account
1)- change phone date manually back 10 days
2) go to settings - software update and check for update. You should receive errors messages sometime. Don't worry. Just ignore it.
3)- restart phone. After that go to settings -checking software update (when it says your phone is up to date) immediately go to Developer Options and you should see OEM Unlock appear back. You may need to try checking software update few times to get it work.
I tried that 2 days ago and it worked
So updated to latest CRG1 firmware hoping that would bring back OEM unlock function. Well it`s been over 3 weeks since update and still no OEM unlock option available.
Has this feature gone ???? It`s bootloader 3.
proven way 4 the oem unlock to reappear:
1. remove the sim card, factory reset
2. on setup screen, log in wifi, skip gmail, skip samsung account, skip the additional apps, set the time back 1 month (twice, because s8 will try to correct the time immediately)
3. untick automatically update, then check for update manually. then restart
4. sim card still out, phone self correct time, check for update manually again, then restart.
5. sim card still out, turn on developer mode, go on developer mode, wait 5 seconds n oem unlock is there.

CRG1 OEM Unlock?

Hi all, I have a G955F and upgraded it to CRG1. The problem is that there is no OEM unlock toggle to be found in the Developer Options section. I've tried to bypass the 7 day wait by changing dates and that didn't work. Is there any other process I could try besides waiting 7 days? All help is appreciated, apologize if this has been posted before.
It should be there.... I say u should wait for 7 days.

Mental fireballs in your direction.
Sorry guys, I didn't get a notification for your replies. All I did was reflash my phone's firmware and then performed the calendar date trick.

I tried flashing CRG1 and CRGB as well as CRGH, I am not able to get the oem unlock option after the date trick. Any help??
So I am thinking to stick to the old firmware with bootloader version 3, can you tell me which one is older CRG1 or CRGB??
New Update
I again refalshed CRG1 which is the older one with bootloader version 3, then I tried this date trick, first it actually did not work. So I tried and monitored my procedure every time. It worked finally. Here is the step by step guide,
1. Reflash the firmware and skip all account setups
2. Now change the date 20 days back
3. Now go and enable developer options
4. Check for OEM unlock(probably won't be there), now disable Auto update system
5. Software update option, disable automatic updates
6. Click on update manually(now you will see registering device toast message and a persistent device configuration notification), it will show you there is an update based on your region(I downloaded Poland region firmware). Most of the post about OEM unlock says you will get an error here due to date issue, but you won't get any errors.
7. Now do this step as fast as you can, again check for OEM option in developer settings((probably won't be there)), and reboot.
8. You should again see the persistent device configuration notification, Turn off wifi/data immediately. Now your date must have probably changed to current date even though you changed it earlier, change the date again, now when the notification goes off, go to software updates, turn the data/wifi on. check for software updates.
9. Now go to developer options you should see OEM unlock option.
If it doesn't work, shuffle up the step 8 instructions, like check for software updates first, then change the date and vice versa.
Samsung got a ****ty logic written under the code over there, but its messy. So I tried this multiple times just to make sure no one else end up with this issue. It worked for me probably it should work for others.
Better download the Poland firmware CRG1 and try it.
Thanks.

U dont need trial and error for this.
1. Enable developer options and check if OEM Unlock is already visible, if not proceed below.
2. Disable auto software update and mobile data to prevent auto date correction.(Leave wifi on)
3. Adjust your datetime to previous dates, let's say Month of May 15th, 2018.
4. Do Software Update manually, do multiple taps so that Software Update process will appear.
5. It should display an error in software update.(Let if fail)
6. Reboot
7. Once rebooted, change the datetime to older dates.(since date will revert back to present)
8. OEM Option should be in the developer options.
Im using the CRGH build, and it never fails me. never waited for 7+days idle phone,no trial and error, I just follow the simple steps above and OEM Unlock never disappears in my end , it was never "patched" as others have told.
Using XTC/SMA/GLB region firmware CRGH build, SM-G950FD..
Note:
I reverted back to stock due to NETFLIX and other related streaming premium apps not playing HD+ content. No workaround or permanent solution on this yet. I'm paying premium 4K hd content so it would be a waste of money playing netflix content on rooted device with just SD video.

OEM doesnt ever show up

Hello, I could really use your guys' help. I am aware of the 7 days wait for OEM unlock to appear on the s8 exynos because of RMM: Pre-Normal. I have waited for 7 days for about 3 weeks and have not turned off my phone during these times. I have never seen OEM unlock appear once. I have also noticed today that, my RMM is never pre-normal and is only ever Normal. No matter which firmware I flash. What else can I do? Is phone somehow broke? I have Flashed BTU, XEU, and XSA. All nothing even after 7 days.
Flash the latest multi csc firmware with odin:
https://fws02.updato.com/GALAXYS8/SM-G950F/DBT/SM-G950F_1_20181012085940_qn0samjn69_fac.zip
Set it all up and then do this:
Go to Settings and activate dev options.
Disable automatic updates and "Never disconnect network".
Go to date, disable automatic time and date and set it back 7 days ago.
Go to update, disable automatic update and check manually for update.
Disable all networks, wifi and data.
Restart your device into original recovery and clear cache.
Restart it.
Have a look if OEM Unlock appears.
If not -> Set it back again 7 days (14 days at all) or more and restart your device.
Dont clear cache or so.
It will show the date 7 days ago but thats okay.
Again set it back and restart.
Don't forget to check for updates while changing date, unless there is already "last checked *date of past*.
If it now doesn't show up, set the date back to automatic and restart your device.
Play a little bit with settings the way I described.
That worked for me sometime.
