You'd need a custom kernel to enable screen-off double-tap functionality along with code (an app or module) to facilitate post-wake actions. Both exist but I have not seen them assembled in the manner that delivers the capabilities you desire.
tl;dr - probably not on this device.

Possible Lollipop roll out - changelog inside

Hey I create this topic to discuss the new Android 5.0 Lollipop for our Moto G2 which was posted a changelog in motorola website to possible OTA update in the next days. Theres a quote of what is coming...
Moto G (2nd Generation) - Android™ 5.0 Lollipop - Release Notes
INTRODUCTION
We are excited to announce a new software update for Moto G (2nd Generation) by Motorola. This update brings Android™ 5.0 Lollipop to your phone along with other improvements.
For more information on Motorola updates and repairs, visit us at www.motorola.com/mymotog.
NOTE: You cannot downgrade to a previous software version after installing this update.
ENHANCEMENTS
Android™ 5.0 Lollipop is one of the most significant in recent Android history. It improves your experience in many areas including visual style and how you interact with your device.
After installing the software update you may notice changes that include:
Material Design
You will quickly notice a whole new colorful look and feel to your device - from fluid animations to new application and system themes, colors and widgets.
Notifications UI & Priorities
In order to alert you to the most timely and relevant information, the format and behavior of notifications have evolved:
notifications will appear on the lock screen and are intelligently ranked by type and who sent them.
you double-tap to open one, swipe left or right to clear one, or clear all notifications from the bottom of the list.
you can set the priority and privacy of notifications for each application.
very high priority notifications will pop up briefly over other applications so that you can take action.
when you dismiss a notification on one device it will be dismissed on your other Android devices, if they are connected to the Internet.
you can further tailor how notifications behave with the new Downtime and Ambient Display settings (see below).
New Interruptions & Downtime Settings You can tailor how interruptions behave, choosing to allow all, none, or only priority interruptions. You can personalize what counts as a priority interruption (reminders, events, calls, messages) and even tailor them to be from only contacts you specify. The Downtime setting will allow only priority interruptions during the times and days that you specify. e.g. allow only priority interruptions on the weekend.
Recent Apps (Multi-tasking)
The redesigned Overview space (formerly called Recents) will include both applications and separate activities within those applications. For instance, each open tab in Chrome will also appear here along with recent applications; both your Gmail Inbox and a draft email message will appear as separate cards. This provides a consistent way to switch amongst tasks.
Ambient Display
While your phone’s display is off, Ambient Display can show notifications without turning on the full display. This will be triggered when a notification arrives. You will see notifications similar to that shown on the lock screen. You can turn this feature on in the Display menu in Settings, and note that it will increase the power consumption of your device.
Motorola Assist and Downtime
Motorola Assist integrates the new Downtime settings to control when you don’t want to be disturbed. Motorola Assist also now uses the new Interruptions settings so that you can customize exceptions, such as letting only people on your starred contacts list get through.
Flashlight
Lollipop includes a new flashlight option as part of Quick settings (swipe down with two fingers from the status bar to see it).
Share your Device
You can now set up multiple user accounts on your phone. Guest mode is enabled by default. You can give calling and text privileges to other users of your device, or restrict them as you like in the Users menu under Settings.
Note that the personalized Motorola experiences (Motorola Assist, Motorola Connect) are for the owner account only.
The Motorola Camera, Motorola Gallery, and Motorola FM Radio applications support multiple user accounts.
Pin a view/app
Screen pinning allows you to keep a specific app or screen in view. For example, you can ‘pin’ a game and your child will not be able to navigate anywhere else on your phone.
Battery
The Battery settings panel now shows an estimated projection for how much time you have left while discharging or charging. You can also enable a new battery saver mode that will save power by reducing performance and most background data operations to extend your battery life.
Smarter Internet Connections
With Android Lollipop, your phone will not connect to a Wi-Fi access point unless there is a verified Internet connection. This feature improves hand-offs between Wi-Fi and cellular connections, helping to maintain your video chat or voice-over-IP (VoIP) call as you switch.
Performance
Your phone now uses the new Android Runtime to help optimize application performance. After upgrading to Lollipop, your applications will undergo a one-time optimization process. Note that the optimization for ART requires more space.
Smart Lock
(Trusted Devices) Android Lollipop adds native support for allowing trusted devices to keep your phone unlocked (such as your Moto 360, a Bluetooth car kit or headset, etc.). Smart Lock replaces the prior trusted device capability in your Motorola phone. Note that you will need to add your trusted devices back after the transition to Lollipop in the Security settings menu under Smart Lock.
Security
Encryption can now use a stronger 256-bit key to help protect your data. Note that the stronger key will only be used after you perform a factory reset on Android Lollipop. Otherwise encryption will continue to use 128-bit key. You can turn on encryption in the Security settings menu.
INSTRUCTIONS
For a successful installation, we recommend installing this update when the battery in your phone is at least 50% charged and you are connected to a Wi-Fi network.
If you have received a notification message for this update:
Select "Yes, I’m in".
After the software is downloaded, select "Install now".
After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.
Your phone is now updated with <insert build number>
If you have not received a notification message for this update, follow the steps below to manually update your phone:
Select the Settings icon in the apps menu.
Select "About phone".
Select "System updates".
Select "Yes, I’m in". After the software is downloaded, select "Install now".

Good thing is that you quoted it cause it's seems Motorola removed it from their site.
Can't wait now
So, if we want to root later, should we take the OTA or wait for a flashable ZIP?
Like, will Motorola be doing any Motorola-specific root-blocking or anything? On my old Samsung GS4, all the OTAs removed any new root exploits.
Or, because the bootloader is unlockable, we're OK?
I'm not sure but I don't think there's a root solution for Android L yet. That and no Xposed support. I'll hold out on the account of both of those things.
Well, Chainfire was able to root Lollipop on the Nexus 9 a few days ago: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-9/orig-development/root-t2929118
Interestingly, Lollipop requires the kernel to be patched on every boot.
Hmm, I've never used Xposed, but it sounds great. But, I'm not optimistic on Xposed on ART coming anytime soon.
Maybe I'm headed back to custom ROMs or a la carte mods...
--
So, I guess the answer to the initial question is: OK to perform the OTA update? No permanent modifications happen?
If we really miss Xposed or root in the coming weeks, we can just flash back to KitKat (I assume that when Motorola said you can't downgrade they didn't include users who unlocked their bootloader). Right?
Great post, but the fact that they removed it from their site doesn't make me comfortable... They must have some problem with it!

Most likely it was accidentally put up too early, so they hid it again until the time is right.

Not via WiFi, two options will be if connected to A trusted Bluetooth device or you can have face unlock setup and trust me, this face unlock is very different from ICS and Jellybean. And these are applicable only on secured lockscreen.

Ambient display is a Lollipop feature and it will present in every Lollipop rom no matter which phone, unless the OEM or Rom developer removes it.
From the wording of the change log it sounds like Ambient Display is off by default anyway so you would have to turn it on manually.
Personally cannot wait for Lollipop I'm definitely going to factory reset after the update to make it as pure/smooth as possible
I thought we would get more news today about the soak test for the Moto G. MAkes me wonder how premature was the publication of those Release Notes

[Q] Missing features in Android 5 for Nexus 4?

I did fresh upgrade from KitKat4.4.4 to stock 5.0. I noticed there are a few things missing from previous build:
1. Power menu only have "POWER OFF"!
2. No "silent" option for sound?
3. No "Auto" setting for brightness control?
4. For privacy, I only want to see an app icon showing on status bar of Lockscreen when Notification comes. I do not want to see small pop-up window with content showing up in 5.0.
5. Lockscreen cannot add widget any more, only Camera/Phone can be lauched.
How to re-gain them instead of going back to 4.4.4?
1- Yes, you don't need the others
2- NONE is the new true silent, read up on it or wait for my youtube video to come up explaining a bit about it (Will be up on monday)
3- Auto is gone and replaced by adaptive brightness which is much better (again, video on monday )
4- It's already there in settings, sound & notifications, when device is locked
5- They (Google) removed lockscreen widgets
And Phones are missing the "Add restricted profile" option ...
I want to restrict what apps my kids can run on my phone.
Any idea how to enable that feature?

Sadly its not.
Google has decided that phones only get "multiple users" whereas tablets also gets "restricted profiles".

1. No, I need others. At least do not take out the menu item already exists in 4.4.4
2. Wait for video
3. No, it is worse.
4. No, the setting sucks. If I choose display content(option2 or 3), it will pop up window on locksceen. If I choose don't display content, there is nothing showing on lockscreen. They are all not I want.
5. Another one sucks
6. The system is slower on 5.0
I flash back to 4.4.4

[ solved ] Nova Launcher prime - double tap to sleep - how to?

as the title says - how to enable double tap to sleep (screen off) using gestures in Nova Launcher prime?
i know it has something to do with assigning an activity via Nova Launcher gestures, but i can't find any activity that relates to screen off or sleep...
any help is appreciated...
note:
i know how to do this using an extra app "Screen Off and Lock", but i just wanted to know is there a posibility to avoid any extra apps to achieve the same thing...
Download Turn Off Screen from play store and assign it to Double Tap on Nova launcher in Gesture Settings.

i think you posted this in the same time i was writing the "note" part in my post
I think not. If i remember, it worked well without 3rd party app, but now it is "disabled". Anyway, here is another guide:
"The Nova Launcher option
Another app that functions very similarly to the way you’d use Apex Launcher is*Nova Launcher. The same as you did for the first method, you will only be able to use this one if you also installed Greenify on the device. Therefore, you should go to the Google Play store and look for these two tools and install them.
Whenever you’re ready, check the steps below:
Open Nova Launcher and go to its Settings.Click on Gestures and Buttons and scroll down to Gestures.Select Double Tap and wait for the Choose Action menu to load.Go to Shortcuts, and then click on Hibernate and Lock Screen.
You may have noticed before that selecting the right settings in the first application is going to automatically send you to the second app you need to use. In this case,*Greenify will open*a new discussion and ask you to authorize Nova to use your screen.
You should go under the Automator and click on Allow Greenfy, and then confirm this option by pressing Activate. You’re now good to go and can test if the display is working properly by double tapping to send it to sleep."

thanks, but i don't use greenify and this guide is more complicated than "nova + screen off&lock" option which i already use...
Easy, you don't need to use a 3rd party app. Just doubletap the status bar to sleep
You can do this in every app, whenever you want to sleep just double tap status bar

i know that but it's not confortable enough...
i even had double tap navbar to sleep (g3twb) which worked well until i started using 5 buttons navbar making it harder to hit the blank area...
It looks like you may need first of all nova launcher prime, after that , you may need greenify as well. Here is what i did and it works.
1 . Go to Nova settings>gestures and input>double tap
2 . swipe right to the shortcuts tab and then go down you may find "hibernate + lockscreen"
3 . Assign it and it works!
double tap to sleep is working for me.
hope this helps.

1. i already have nova prime (else - i won't be asking because gestures don't work with free version anyway)

cheers
Screen turns off if knocked on or close to status bar when I do it.
But what is the problem with having another app installed? Its size is ridiculous and it solves your problem, and always you can hide if u dont want to see it.

From the apps that I have Tasker and GravityBox can do screen off/sleep. And if you are using them already that doesn't count as an extra app, right?
Just realized this myself, one less app in my phone. I think I will go with tasker since I already run a lot of stuff with it.

Oh man, you should try tasker. It's what puts SMART in smartphone. Was messing around today with it. I found an old buss ticket that can work as nfc tag and put it on my phone holder on bicycle. I have set it to trigger launching Strava app, turning on GPS, setting brightness to max and forcing landscape mode for that app. And when I exit app, BAM, it reverts everything back the way it was. It's like slide and click instead of multiple actions. Might be overly excited about it right now, and definitely off topic here, but had to mention it hehe. I hope you will find a way to use that gesture the way you want, everything is possible on android

if you knew how i use my device you'd be asking "why don't i use nokia 3310 instead?"
no gps, no bluetooth, no location of any kind, no gaming, half of google services blocked etc...
no vibers, no hangouts, no skypes, no syncs - some calls, few sms messages... (i mostly communicate through google chat and emails while on pc since most of my work depends on beeing on pc anyway)
i read articles, browse and listen to music 90% of the time...
call me old fashioned - but i still love to have some "human manual control" over things on my device

Some parts are, I am unable to do things like remap buttons etc and it crashes if you try to do any quick management editing (which is to be expected). On the plus side, the developer has just ordered the 3t and is planning on making a full;y comparable version for us

That's right. But I still have to wait to have device in my hands as it's currently hard for me to assess what it will take and whether it is worth to work on Marshmallow version considering 3T is receiving Nougat in couple of weeks, which seems to be quite different (hopefully more AOSPish) compared to OOS 3.5.
The only one I seem to find a use for is "Ringer and notification unlink" so that I can separately set notification levels. It adds the slider with the others in settings/sound.
Is there any module to auto hide the navbar after a certain time to prevent burn-in?

a must have is "app settings 1.13" for the simple reason you can change orientation, dpi, keep on, and much more on any app

Xperia Xz Premium Douple Tap to Wake (DT2W)

Fellows
I just saw this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnU6xMP8wmg
in which it said that SONY XPERIA XZP don't have DT2W feature!
can anyone confirm that? may be he was using unfinished version of the xzp...
its usually under SETTINGS>> DISPLAY >> TAP TO WAKE
please confirm
dt2w will be deal breaker for me! i won't buy if this feature is missing!!
sorry but i can't see the option in my display settings...
I can also confirm that this beautifull phone doesn't have DT2W
I will try to include tap to wake in my kernel. (after I receive my XZP...)
In fact, there is config for tap to wake and I think this can re-enable it if there is no hardware limitation.

GG!!! This means we'll have root goodies under your Tmark hehe. Without diverting too much from the topic, any clues on TA backup? Using this beauty without root (and hopefully Xposed soon) is half the joy.
@YasuHamed P.S. Double tap to sleep is also gone - that's on home.apk, but they might make a comeback on the next update.
On second thoughts
I am gonna buy this fone
Unlock it flash the kernals do the dt2w thing. Exactly the way i did woth my c6602
Btw, no news on ta.img yet

if in next version of Xperia HOME, tap to sleep and tap to wake are there, then there is no need to play around
my guess is that because it wasn't working in XZ perfectly, where some time devices were not able to wakeup until you wait little longer for screen to sleep, they have removed it,
some one need to tell sony engineers! or who ever is the master mind of sony stock android for devices!
in 2017 the trend is
1. more ram
2. gestures features! ( camera, torch , tap to wake)
3. hide/ unhide navbar ( i.e physical touch navbar)
4. whatelse?

No.
Currently only my custom kernel can enable it.
Myabe Sony will re-enable DT2W when their problem (I don't know exactly) is fixed.
I wonder how much that feature, making the tactile layer constantly waiting for a signal is battery consuming..
