I just saw this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnU6xMP8wmg
in which it said that SONY XPERIA XZP don't have DT2W feature!
can anyone confirm that? may be he was using unfinished version of the xzp...
its usually under SETTINGS>> DISPLAY >> TAP TO WAKE
please confirm
dt2w will be deal breaker for me! i won't buy if this feature is missing!!
sorry but i can't see the option in my display settings...
I can also confirm that this beautifull phone doesn't have DT2W
I will try to include tap to wake in my kernel. (after I receive my XZP...)
In fact, there is config for tap to wake and I think this can re-enable it if there is no hardware limitation.

GG!!! This means we'll have root goodies under your Tmark hehe. Without diverting too much from the topic, any clues on TA backup? Using this beauty without root (and hopefully Xposed soon) is half the joy.
@YasuHamed P.S. Double tap to sleep is also gone - that's on home.apk, but they might make a comeback on the next update.
On second thoughts
I am gonna buy this fone
Unlock it flash the kernals do the dt2w thing. Exactly the way i did woth my c6602
Btw, no news on ta.img yet
There is no known exploit or xposed on 7.x.x
I wonder if the Double Tap To Wake function can be accessed via ADB or someting else without root...

if in next version of Xperia HOME, tap to sleep and tap to wake are there, then there is no need to play around
my guess is that because it wasn't working in XZ perfectly, where some time devices were not able to wakeup until you wait little longer for screen to sleep, they have removed it,
some one need to tell sony engineers! or who ever is the master mind of sony stock android for devices!
in 2017 the trend is
1. more ram
2. gestures features! ( camera, torch , tap to wake)
3. hide/ unhide navbar ( i.e physical touch navbar)
4. whatelse?

No.
Currently only my custom kernel can enable it.
Myabe Sony will re-enable DT2W when their problem (I don't know exactly) is fixed.
I wonder how much that feature, making the tactile layer constantly waiting for a signal is battery consuming..

Hi guys, I thought this would help you, so I wrote a (I hope) noob-friendly guide.
Basically, this fixes the screen turning on in your pocket and detecting random touches. It keeps on happening to me, I end up randomly calling people/emailing the president and it's really annoying when it happens.
This does NOT fix the flashlight turning on due to detecting a 'V' gesture (for that you gotta disable the gesture itself, sorry, can't prevent that happening).
So basically you gotta install this app (Glimpse Notifications) (Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with this dude, just sharing for fun) and do the initial setup. Then, in the app itself, go into the Extras menu and enable Lockscreen menu and enable 'Lock when covered' and the next two options you can set as per your preference (I use 'only in Lockscreen' and '600ms'. You can also enable a double tap to lock on the lockscreen if you're using the Beta version (available in the Extras menu).
Oh, and to prevent it from closing in the background, enable the Persistant Notification in Extras and go to your notification bar, long press on the notification and tap the crossed bell (assuming you're running Cyanogen OS/CyanogenMod/a ROM based on it) to hide it.
That's pretty much it, you're set!
P.S. I know you can get similar functionality using Gravity Screen etc. but this is free, and it's only polling your sensor when the screen is on and you're in your lockscreen, so it should barely use any battery (and uses only around 8mb RAM).
P.S.S. It's my first thread on XDA, any feedback would be appreciated
Good job!
My friend had a similar problem, this seemed to work for him, thanks!
Anytime!

Christ almighty... a fix for this issue. I've actually had this happen all the time with disastrous battery drain as a result :/
The double tap to wake of my zuk z1 international version is not working properly. For past weeks now, it has not function at all. The same with default camera app that produce inferior photos. Any help?

We hope the issues will be fixed soon
Mine stopped working and I got it working again by turning the onscreen buttons on and off, as well as the double tap to wake, both in settings....then restarted.
A bit unscientific but did the job.
Have a look at the other post, there is a good alternative camera app to download from xda.

Double tap to wake is a great battery drain. It keeps the screen powered up all the time. Is it that hard to stick a finger on a sensor. If you can't make it work and want it there are tap to wake apps

Open Camera is far better than the stock one. The first thing I did was swap.

Dttw does keep the screen on! Do you see the back light? It is just a part of the touch layer managed by the kernel. It should have a minimal impact on battery life and does not prevent deep sleep.

I guess is a mith.. i have DTTW enabled and livedisplay enabled too and no have problems at all. 2 Sims, 5 mail accounts, DISA and Whatsapp working and i have more than a full day (if i downlevel my activities battery last almost 2 full days).
Not required double tap on MM ZUI
Double tap features is not required anymore for me, because the newer ZUI marshmallow version they have fixed the problem with direct unlock from the home key without pressing.
I mean same like Nexus devices.

Do you mean it wakes itself by sensor without pressing the home button.

Nope, as far as I know, zuk use the same layout that opo uses, one cable for screen and another for touch. After that it's handled by kernel and don't have almost any impact in battery life
Best Regards,
Is it possible to double tap the device's screen when it's off for the ambient display?
The pick up gesture doesn't always work, and I would rather have it be a action I can do to make it ALWAYS work.
Thanks in advance.
My understanding is that double tap to wake is a hardware requirement (that the 6p doesn't meet). But if you use your first to 'tap it' hard enough you should trigger the gyroscope to wake it

Nexus 6p has double tap to wake feature build in but you have to have root go activate it. I use it all the time and always works so I think it's not a hardware feature, someone just has to port it over or something

I'm using it too, but I did think it would be great if it worked like double-tap-to-ambient-display. That is, doesn't wake it fully just do the same like when lifting it. But didn't have the time to look through the kernel source yet.

You can get tap to wake with a custom kernel like the one I'm using on my stock rooted N6p. Try EX Kernel it's awesome!

But that wakes the phone fully, not in ambient mode.
I would like the ability to turn on screen saver on double tap or to have the ambient display on all the time. I like how my Wife's S7 shows the clock all the time.
Just slide it a little on the table it will turn on. Mine always does that... sometimes piss me off...lol

It's still encrypted
1. Flat Style Bar Indicators (one of ways to get center clock and other taskbar tweaks);
2. RootCloak (necessary in case you use apps that don't work on rooted phone)

Some parts are, I am unable to do things like remap buttons etc and it crashes if you try to do any quick management editing (which is to be expected). On the plus side, the developer has just ordered the 3t and is planning on making a full;y comparable version for us

That's right. But I still have to wait to have device in my hands as it's currently hard for me to assess what it will take and whether it is worth to work on Marshmallow version considering 3T is receiving Nougat in couple of weeks, which seems to be quite different (hopefully more AOSPish) compared to OOS 3.5.
The only one I seem to find a use for is "Ringer and notification unlink" so that I can separately set notification levels. It adds the slider with the others in settings/sound.
Is there any module to auto hide the navbar after a certain time to prevent burn-in?
/e: so trying to manipulate softkeys with GB results in some weird outcomes (e.g. backbutton not working)
I want this function but i can´t find any mod for it
Short press on recents button - Open menu
Long press recent button - open recents
Long press back button - kill app
Include my modules

a must have is "app settings 1.13" for the simple reason you can change orientation, dpi, keep on, and much more on any app

I tried the pro version but couldn't find it so I did a refund. I can only get it to start an app.
That's sad, maybe I've just been using it for so long it seems simple to me. I guess it just wasn't meant to be for you then because it works perfectly on every phone I've ever had including this one.

Is there a way to get the ambient display to show when I pick up the phone or on double tap like some other devices do?
Thanks
try Ambi-Turner apk on google play store.
Thanks, but doesnt seem to do anything with this phone...
i'm using donate version, it unlock option for "wave to wake" and "pick-up to wake", works well and no excessive battery drain.
On the Mi A1?
The standard version has pick up to wake (and pull out of pocket) - neither did anything for me (i did get the notification to say it was running as Pushbullet sent to my computer)
yes on Mi A1, wave gesture work without problem but pickup to wake works only on paid version after enabling "tilt and lift to wake option", in any case it is not much reactive but work.
An alternative can be "always on amoled" apk, it have an option to replace ambient display function or wait until custom rom come out.
@fdc77 does the double tap to wake option work in Ambi-turner as well? Since you already have the donate version, would you mind to check?
@Localhorst86
HI, DT to wake does not work, it is a feature that must be implemented at kernel level, so only with a custom kernel it can be eventually enabled.
