Custom kernel on stock rom will stop OTA updates? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

I am on stock rom 8.1 July patch. And have rooted my phone using the patched method. Now I was wondering to flash Franco kernel on my phone. So will that lead me to a situation where I will no longer have the option to get OTA updates?

[Q] does the s5 still come with original software?

Does the s5 always come with the original software it had on launch day with the kernel that came out before November 14th? Is it possible to use xposed or some other app to prevent OTA updates?
With the latest version you can still root. Just need to flash the old kernel and flash back after rooting

Which recovery to use?

Hey guy's. It seems Motorola released a new update for moto x play ( Marshmallow Stock ROM) a while ago. But since i'm rooted and using TWRP, i have a newbie question: I know i have to remove root and flash stock recovery to update, but i have to flash the marshmallow one or i'm fine flashing the lollipop stock recovery?
Lollipop stock recovery. If you change system with custom rom ,flash lollipop firmware to get mm ota .

I'm alredy at Marshmallow. The update i'm talking about is a security patch and "system improvements". A OTA with about 254mb. That is the one i need to know what recovery to use. Also, sorry for not being specifc.

Newbie requesting help to upgrade from 4.2.2 to Lollipop

Hello,
I have a rooted i337 with MDL baseband, running stock 4.2.2 firmware. I am currently out of the US and therefore cannot receive any OTA. I want to upgrade to Lollipop or Marshmallow based custom ROMs, esp those that can still use the IR feature of the S4.
Can anyone guide me on how I do this upgrade, without bricking my phone? Would truly appreciate your help. Thanks.
Have you tried running ota updates via wifi without a SIM card in the phone.
To run a custom rom, you would need to install a custom recovery to flash the rom. Some mm and LP ROMs may not work with a 4.2.2 modem and bootloader.
If you want to use a custom ROM, DO NOT take any OTA updates. If you take an OTA and it is successful, then you will no longer be able to install a custom ROM.
Here is the Cyanogenmod thread to install CM to your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3008609
If you would like to update to official ATT/Samsung lollipop(there is also a way to have root)[remember, once you take an official update from MDL, then you will no longer be able to install a custom ROM and you may never be able to get Marshmallow]: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2926642

Official OTA update on a rooted device...

...first things first - xt1625, build number-MPJ24.13964.
I wanna update this puppy to Nougat, but can’t seem to find a stable custom ROM. Can I flash the official firmware release? I’m assuming I’ll lose root access. Anyone point me towards a stable ROM?
I wouldn't do OTA. Don't know why I put that, I'd dl and flash from recovery

Rooted on 6.0.1, want to OTA to 7.X

As the title states I am rooted with SU on 6.0.1, if I run the OTA update will I lose root? Is there a way to update to 7.x, if I had to guess it would be flashing a custom 7.x ROM?

OTA will not work as you have a custom device.(rooted) ODIN the stock firmware either MM or Nougat for your device model. Re-root.
