Hey guy's. It seems Motorola released a new update for moto x play ( Marshmallow Stock ROM) a while ago. But since i'm rooted and using TWRP, i have a newbie question: I know i have to remove root and flash stock recovery to update, but i have to flash the marshmallow one or i'm fine flashing the lollipop stock recovery?
Lollipop stock recovery. If you change system with custom rom ,flash lollipop firmware to get mm ota .

I'm alredy at Marshmallow. The update i'm talking about is a security patch and "system improvements". A OTA with about 254mb. That is the one i need to know what recovery to use. Also, sorry for not being specifc.

Hello, could someone tell me exactly what is needed to flash the latest lollipop roms? I'm running TWRP 2.8.3.0 and supersu 2.40 yet I'm unable to flash any 5.0.2 roms since I get an error in recovery saying "error in executing updater binary in zip". I think my brother was running 2.8.2.0 and had the same error message.
I had no trouble flashing the initial 5.0 lollipop roms and just recently tried flashing a 5.0.2 rom after running 4.4.2 xdabbeb for a while.
What exactly do I need to do or update to flash the latest roms and how to I fix this error?
Thank you
Recently experienced same thing. Even thought I lost root. In my case it was a newer app. Don't know how or why. Uninstalled app and all was fine. Could flash roms again. Hope ? this helps.

As long as you have the correct radio flashed for lollipop refer to my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/help/error-executing-updater-binary-zip-twrp-t2988604
I describe how I fixed this problem for myself.
D802 eur ,here from cloudy g3 going to 5.0.2 with no problem.Philz touch v5.0.4.7 full wipe and flashed ROM+gapps...
You have to flash the rom(cm12) , the lollipop gapps and Supersu(Zip-file).
If you do not flash Supersu, you WILL loose your Root!!!

Hi,
i want to buy a new note 4 - the version 910f.
If i update the new phone with stock 4.4.4 rom to the latest 5.1.1 - will there be any problem if i want to install root or anything like this later on? Can i still install custom roms?
I want to now this, becqause if i update my new amazon fire 7 (2015) to latest stock 5.1.1 rom - there is no chance to start recovery anymore for installing custom rom. With only 5.0.1 all is good and i can install custom rom with recovery.
Is there a similar problem with note 4 or can i install latest stock rom and won´t get any problems later?
Only thing i found is that i can´t go back to 4.4.4 when installing 5.1.1? And i can´t go back to 5 when i´m installaing marshmallow because of changing partitions size?
So if i go to stock 5.1.1 it doesn´t matter, because i don´t want to use 4.4.4 and i can still use all stock roms and change to marshmallow later?

No problem if you don't plan to use 4.4.4. Note that if you update to latest 5.1.1
>your bootloader will be locked you can't go back to previous roms or use custom roms which are based on earlier versions such as 4.4.4 custom roms or 5.0.1 custom roms.
>you can still root your phone install custom recovery and install custom roms which have newer bootloaders. However rooting 5.1.1 is bit different because with android 5.1.1 there is an extra security layer in the kernel which detects and stops device from being rooted you need a "permissive kernel" to root 5.1.1. And then you can do whatever you like.
Would it be a better decision to stay on 5.0.1 for the moment and later install 5.1.1 custom rom? To not loose unlocked bootloader?
And one more question: if I deactivate bloatware in application setting off stock rom, is bloatware complete deactivated or is it still running in the background somehow?

You can install 5.1.1 with these bootloaders coj3, coi3, pok1 , coh4 these are safe and won't lock your bootloader. i'd recommend 5.1.1 over 5.0.1 because the difference is day and night in long term use (when u have many apps) 5.1.1 is much smoother and better battery life just don't install coj5 or newer bootloaders. I don't use custom roms because in my experience stock rom is the best custom roms have some bugs etc. If you deactivate bloatware in application settings then its no more running in background.
OK, thank you. But so I should deactivate ota updates and flash latest stock update with Odin, so that I don't get latest locked bootloader?
How can i update to latest 5.1.1 update and keeping the (old) unlocked bootloader?
Do i have to donwload version from smamobile and flash with odin? How can i disallow to update bootloader too?
And if i update with ota - i will get latest (locked) bootlader automatically - no chance anymore to remove it?
-----------------------------
I don´t want to root my phone the first time (because of knox) but later on i maybe want to root too.

There is no way to be sure if the older bootloader will work with latest 5.1.1 rom. So its better to stick with the bootloader which comes with the rom and yes if you update with OTA you will get latest 5.1.1 and bootloader automatically. Just go to sammobile and download 5.1.1 with COJ3, COi3, or POK1 (nordic countries). and Flash with odin.

Install stock recovery back, then flash stock nougat zip.
no wipes needed.
you can download the ota from asus support site.
As the title states I am rooted with SU on 6.0.1, if I run the OTA update will I lose root? Is there a way to update to 7.x, if I had to guess it would be flashing a custom 7.x ROM?

OTA will not work as you have a custom device.(rooted) ODIN the stock firmware either MM or Nougat for your device model. Re-root.

Hello XDA!
I've rooted my phone (the J5) about a week ago after finally deciding it might just help me to some extent.
Well, then I realized I'm still on Android 6.0 and updating obviously doesn't work.
This brings up multiple questions for me:
Is there any way to get the official update?
OR do I have to download it myself and flash it on?
Can I flash Android 7.1 on it without bricking the phone or losing all data?
Can I flash any firmware (or firmware updates) without losing any data?
If anyone could answer my questions, I'd be grateful.
Thanks in advance.

You can't update your phone OTA whule it's rooted. If you want the new 7.1.1 stock you must flash it manualy over odin. If your phone is on stock 6.0.1 the manual flash will not erase any of your data or apps. If you are on a custom rom then it wil erase data. When you install nougat it will be unrooted and with stock recovery.

I understand that, but will it brick the phone or erase the data? The J5 is certainly not made for Android N.

I've used the CF AutoRoot package for the root. Does CF-AR install a custom ROM?
Thanks for the answers.

What version of the J5 2016 do you have? Only install 7.1.1 manualy on the J510FN.
A custom ROM is a software installed over a custom recovery that is totaly different from the stock rom.

Alright, I've got a J500FN, so the dream of Android N is gone.
I didn't use a custom recovery, I used Samsung's Download mode.
This is it. Thanks for your help, ya'll. I'm gonna upgrade to 6.0.1 manually now.

There is no official Nougat for your device, so don't ever try to install tge J510FN version ?????
But there is a ported stock nougat rom for your device on the J5 2015 ROMs section
