Seeking avice for a good sync setup for this - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

Hi,
This isn't specific to Essential, but because I'm an Essential Phone owner, I thought I'd ask fellow Essential users. I was using Google Play Music for many years, but recently I finally got fed up with its known error to duplicate uploaded songs. Now, I'm trying to find an alternative setup for my music need. Basically, I want to find a "reliable" syncing service that can keep my songs on PC synced to my phone, with or without its own music player. I've tried a bunch of options such as iSyncr, Google Drive + VLC on phone, Dropbox with VLC on phone, iDrive + VLC on phone, etc. But, they all have limitations. iDrive had the best outcome as it allowed me to sync per folder, rather than individual files, but it just wasn't reliable (it would say it synced new files, but new files couldn't be found). Dropbox got messy as it didn't give me an option to save a folder and instead only allowed me to save each song/music, which got mixed up on my phone. Good Drive had the same problem. I could only download a specific file, not a folder. iSyncr had bugs that just didn't work. I just need something simple that will keep my Music Folder A, Music Folder B, Music Folder C, etc. all synced to respective folders on my phone (or a service that can keep playlist in tact instead). Please let me know if anyone knows a good solution for this.
Thank you,

I use FolderSync on my phone:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
I'm not sure about it working to pc but it works with ftp so that might work. More of a manual way to sync but it has worked well for me with multiple cloud services. One setup just a couple clicks and use whatever music players you like.
The otherb sync I've used is Resilio
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.resilio.sync
Resilio can be automated.
Best of luck.

Access to Google music from the Xoom?

Just got an invite to google music. On the computer everything works great. But on the Xoom i cant access the cloud in the music app.
Should this just work automaticly or? I don't live in the US, so that could be the problem.
Others outside the US will probably ask this aswell.

There is a thread somewhere about getting it to work in Canada, maybe you can follow those steps, but as of right now it is only open to US users.

Go to settings > applications > all and find Music, click Clear data and then Force stop. Now try Music app again.
Of course this works if you have the latest Music app installed. If you don't have it, then connect to US VPN and you can update in Market.
Didn't help. I think vpn is the solution here.
In my google music settings, the xoom dosen't show up as a device.
I have Google Music 3.0.
You need to update the Google music app, which only works if the market thinks you're in America. I used root and then the MarketAccess app to fool it into thinking I was on a USA sim card and all works fine. I'm in the UK btw

Music Beta by Google: A Must Read For All Root Users!

I want to make sure that all root users who use Music Beta to know this:
I am rooted, of course... and it turns out that every time I wiped data on my Xoom, and then signed back into my Music Beta account on a fresh new install, it would end up adding my Xoom to my list of allowed devices again. My Xoom was actually listed 7 times on the Music Beta device list, followed by my Droid, which is a total of 8 devices, and is also the maximum amount that you can have. I could not get the Xoom to log into my account after another data wipe until I deauthorized a device from my list. (Screenshot attached below)
IMPORTANT LESSON OF THE DAY:
If you own a Xoom, are rooted, wipe data a lot, and you use Music Beta a lot... you will want to make sure that you check out your device list right away. I can guarantee that your Xoom is listed more than one time. If there are multiple device entries of the same thing, just remove them off your list. It's that easy!
And if you don't do this... eventually you will end up hitting 8 devices total like I did. Then you will have to remove at least one device entry from the list before you can use it again, because you are only allowed 8 devices at a time, even if it just so happens to be the same device listed 8 different times. Just be aware of that situation and you won't ever have a problem.
HOW TO FIX THIS:
Just log into the desktop version of Music Beta by clicking here, go into settings, and then you'll see a place to manage your devices. Just remove the multiple device entries from the list by deauthorizing them, and then... presto! We're back in business!
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Well, with the Tiamat Rom receiving a good number of updates recently requiring full data wipes... you will run into this problem soon enough, trust me, especially if you are a big user of the Music Beta app. I jumped Roms quite a bit and it added up very quickly until I finally realized that this was happening. In case you didn't know about this, you do now. Over time you will want to check back and remove the multiple devices just so you don't have any problems in the future.
If anyone has found this information useful or informative, please give me a thanks. Also, leave any comments if you have any. Thanks all!

Music beta is cloud storage... Not just media app. And yes, there are alot of good media players available.

Indeed. Media players such as PowerAMP (which is my favorite) blow Music Beta out of the water in terms of the UI and features. The reason people use this is, you are right... it's a cloud music player. No other app out there can connect to the Google Music servers. I personally like Music Beta and it's UI. And it's always a plus when you don't have to store all of your music on the SD card. Thank you cloud storage!
Although I would like more customization... I do enjoy using the Music Beta app. It's a solid build, and I am sure more updates are on the way to improve upon it even more.
Same thing applies if you're a Kindle user. My nexus was listed four times at amazon.

I fell into that trap with my phone.
took me like a day to figure it out
except the phone didnt give me a useful error - just said that i couldnt download and cache music
I'm having an issue with Google Music Beta. When installing the app on my Xoom WiFi it syncs without problems, but after a while the sync disappears and the music app indicates that I have no music. The only way to resolve it is by downloading and installing the app again - but then the same happens after a short while again, even if the Xoom isn't rebooted.
I have checked under Music Settings in my online account and only 4 devices are connected to the account, the Xoom not being one of them. I also deleted the data in the app to see if that helped. Has anyone experienced a similar issue?
I'm running the latest Tiamat rom.
Btw, it appears it's now possible to link up to 10 devices to the Music account.

Music 4.0 - no playlist sync

I updated to music 4.0 like is posted here.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/1...s-all-new-interface-better-controls-and-more/
I did lose my music, but was able to get it syncing again easily. Only thing... I don't have any playlists. I hope this isn't by design. I even tried creating a new playlist on the computer to see if it would find that one. No deal.
Anyone else??
Future FYI--
I don't know about different version support ie 4.0, but I have had good luck backing up/restoring playlists with MyBackUp Pro. So have never lost them--yet--

I can't install the apk...
Allways get the notice 'application was not installed'

you shouldn't install this music 4.0 if you expect everything to work.
This apk isn't designed to work with 2.3.x it is for ICS.
Works perfectly, just delete data after installing...

Heh, really. So you don't think it's appropriate to ask if other people are having the same problem? That seems a bit strict... especially when it is being reported that everything DOES work.

Here's what I did to get the apk working (v4.0.1.501), with root access.
If you use Titanium Backup, use it to uninstall all existing versions of Music on your phone (this includes both the stock Music app and Music Beta).
Then install the apk.
Open the application, and you should see a notification asking for permission to connect to your Google account. Tap confirm.
Go to Settings, Applications, then Music and hit "clear data".
Go back to the Music app and your music should start syncing from the cloud.
If nothing happens, check that there is an item under Account Settings / Google account, for Google Music, and that sync is activated.
Hope it helps!

Hmmm, I still don't have mine. I even tried reinstalling. Maybe because I'm only 2.3.3... or I suppose who knows what it could be. Oh well... I can live with it this way for a couple of months I think. I really like the updated version.
Can anyone report if the usability of the player has been improved? I love the streaming feature of 3.0, but aside from that it is the worst music player I have ever touched. Stuff like not being able to create ad hoc playlists, the all songs from an artist playlist sorting the tracks in alphabetical order, and the pointless hiding of the notification bar in the landscape view make me want to punch someone every time I listen to music.
Finally figured it out. I downloaded the official app from the market, which I thought maybe would work... but it didn't. Then when maps 6.0 came out yesterday... well you all know the lack of internal space. So my N1 was so screwed, it wasn't even connecting to google servers and getting my mail because the space was so slow. I also noticed how the music app just kept saying it was syncing (the spinning circle).
I decided to cull the apps a little, and really free up some space. Well after about 20 minutes, finally my playlists appeared. So the music app was building a database, but then running out of space and stopping, and I guess it was leaving the playlists until the end. My database was also missing a lot of songs. An album might have been missing half the songs (of course they were all there on the web).
Just for the record, I'm not talking about pinning my music and downloading it or anything, I mean even just seeing the songs on the phone without offline access.
Hopefully I can live with almost no apps until January when I can get a GN.

Modded Spotify for Kindle Fire (Works 100%)

So, like most people on this lovely planet, I received a Kindle Fire for Christmas. One of the first things I did with it was install Spotify. However, like most people know, the Fire's software UI controls cover up the Spotify controls, making it sorta useless.
So this morning I decompiled it and made a few quick changes so it would work better.
The only remaining problem is that I couldn't find out how to reposition the view player (the little tab you can drag up that displays the album art, music controls, etc...). So instead of repositioning it, I moved the music controls above the album art. You can bring it up by clicking the (blank) center button. It works 100%, just doesn't look at nice.
Finally, I replaced the icon with an icon I found in the hi-res folder, so the icon looks all nice and spiffy in the carousel. *You might have to restart your Fire before this will take effect if you have all already installed Spotify on your device*
I attached some picture showing what I've done.
Installation instructions for the plebeians:
*On your Kindle*
1. Go to settings > Device and turn "Allow Installation of Applications" on.
2. Download the attached modified .apk
*For some reason it will give an error if you try to install with the default installer on the Kindle Fire, so you can't simply install it from the browser*
4. Download AndroXplorer for free from the Amazon App Store
5. Open AndroXplorer and browse to /sdcard/Download/
6. Tap KFSpotifyAndroid.apk and it will bring up a dialog asking you to install.
Ta Da!
*I lied about being able to install it over your previous spotify app. Make sure to delete any previous Spotify app from your system before installing.*
*This is not a cracked version, simply a small change to the interface, in order to use Spotify on your mobile device you must have a subscription. (Though they do give out trials to new users.)*
And that's that. Enjoy Spotify. Hopefully they're working on a more official version, but this will do until then.
Probably a stupid question, but this is a free app that requires a paid subscription..right?

Thank you so much for sharing. This works perfect on the Kindle!
Thanks for sharing! Are working perfectly
Works perfectly, thank you!
So I tried as you suggested, installing via the androxplorer as well as ES-file-explorer. Neither one allowed the .apk to install!
I'm running a stock kindle, the only change i've made is to use Go-Launcher.
thanks,
jh
I just downloaded your modded app it installed no problem,I logged in and it plays, but I don't have a paid subscription. Have you some how unlocked it for a free login? If so, thanks.

No, only the inteface has changed to accommodate the "bar" at the bottom which blocked the controls on the Spotify app. If you don't have a paid subscription, the app is useless.
Thanks man, works perfectly. I got install errors at first, but all I had to do was uninstall the existing app completely before trying this one.
Great work!
Works like a charm with "free" version
Followed your directions step by step and had zero issues. Logged in with facebook credentials and it works seamlessly. Thanks!

Missing file
Hi all,
There's no "KFSpotifyAndroid.apk" file available to download. I tried downloading the "SpotifyAndroid.apk" file, which did overwrite my existing install, but this did not fix the issue with Spotify controls.
There's another file in the /SDcard/Download folder: "Spotify-41200180.apk" but generates an error "Parse error - There is a problem parsing the package."
Help?
The file appears to be missing-- is there any way it could be reposted? Thanks for the help!
Thanks

[Q] What's a good way to integrate Mac and S 4?

I have had my Galaxy S 4 for a few months, and the only thing I dislike is how it doesn't integrate as well as iPhone does with Mac OS X (duh). What's a good way to integrate Mac OS X with the Galaxy S 4?
For music, I'm fine using iTunes and iSyncr, but I was looking for ways to sync notifications from the S 4 to Mac and for a feature like iMessage, where I could respond to texts from my Mac. Any ideas? Also, is there a way to sync my camera roll with iPhoto?
Thanks!
Did you try throwing away your Mac and getting a computer? It worked for some of my friends... Ubuntu 13.04 gels quite well with Android.
iDontBelieveSo
Checkout google music (they accept up to 20,000 previously purchased songs). For texting from my pc I use airdroid. I don't sync my photos so I don't have a recommendation but maybe some will chime in. Maybe at some point a user will write a post in here that's actually helpful.
Welcome to Android. Cheers, buddy.
Macs are good machines. But I use airdroid and play music
