I want to make sure that all root users who use Music Beta to know this:
I am rooted, of course... and it turns out that every time I wiped data on my Xoom, and then signed back into my Music Beta account on a fresh new install, it would end up adding my Xoom to my list of allowed devices again. My Xoom was actually listed 7 times on the Music Beta device list, followed by my Droid, which is a total of 8 devices, and is also the maximum amount that you can have. I could not get the Xoom to log into my account after another data wipe until I deauthorized a device from my list. (Screenshot attached below)
IMPORTANT LESSON OF THE DAY:
If you own a Xoom, are rooted, wipe data a lot, and you use Music Beta a lot... you will want to make sure that you check out your device list right away. I can guarantee that your Xoom is listed more than one time. If there are multiple device entries of the same thing, just remove them off your list. It's that easy!
And if you don't do this... eventually you will end up hitting 8 devices total like I did. Then you will have to remove at least one device entry from the list before you can use it again, because you are only allowed 8 devices at a time, even if it just so happens to be the same device listed 8 different times. Just be aware of that situation and you won't ever have a problem.
HOW TO FIX THIS:
Just log into the desktop version of Music Beta by clicking here, go into settings, and then you'll see a place to manage your devices. Just remove the multiple device entries from the list by deauthorizing them, and then... presto! We're back in business!
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Well, with the Tiamat Rom receiving a good number of updates recently requiring full data wipes... you will run into this problem soon enough, trust me, especially if you are a big user of the Music Beta app. I jumped Roms quite a bit and it added up very quickly until I finally realized that this was happening. In case you didn't know about this, you do now. Over time you will want to check back and remove the multiple devices just so you don't have any problems in the future.
If anyone has found this information useful or informative, please give me a thanks. Also, leave any comments if you have any. Thanks all!

Indeed. Media players such as PowerAMP (which is my favorite) blow Music Beta out of the water in terms of the UI and features. The reason people use this is, you are right... it's a cloud music player. No other app out there can connect to the Google Music servers. I personally like Music Beta and it's UI. And it's always a plus when you don't have to store all of your music on the SD card. Thank you cloud storage!
Although I would like more customization... I do enjoy using the Music Beta app. It's a solid build, and I am sure more updates are on the way to improve upon it even more.
Same thing applies if you're a Kindle user. My nexus was listed four times at amazon.

I fell into that trap with my phone.
took me like a day to figure it out
except the phone didnt give me a useful error - just said that i couldnt download and cache music
I'm having an issue with Google Music Beta. When installing the app on my Xoom WiFi it syncs without problems, but after a while the sync disappears and the music app indicates that I have no music. The only way to resolve it is by downloading and installing the app again - but then the same happens after a short while again, even if the Xoom isn't rebooted.
I have checked under Music Settings in my online account and only 4 devices are connected to the account, the Xoom not being one of them. I also deleted the data in the app to see if that helped. Has anyone experienced a similar issue?
I'm running the latest Tiamat rom.
Btw, it appears it's now possible to link up to 10 devices to the Music account.

Not sure if this has been previously posted or if its just a regular app now, but I saw it in the new signed rom and it works on the incredible.. I will update if i find anything else that looks updated.

Thanks for posting this. I had v1.1.1. Downloaded the free music and am listening to it right now.
HTC Incredible (Stock)
Can I ask how are you downloading the music for free? When I select a song I'm prompted to log-in and when I do so, it asks me to set up the 1-click payment.
EDIT: Nevermind, I see that the full discount was applied. However, I'm getting a lot of network errors when I know I'm connected. anyone else seeing this? Thanks in advance.
I seem to be getting errors too. I am on 3G. It reads:
"Failed due to network error. Retry when you are in a mobile network or Wi-Fi coverage area; roaming downloads are not supported."
I hit ok and it continues. I tried another free song and it downloads.
Shazam also does not recognize the app. It prompts me to go to the website when I hit the Amazon MP3 button.
I haven't gone so far as downloading the music but I do get the errors when searching sometimes. Seems like it might want really good signal for some reason because when I went into town it started working.
I haven't had any problems so far, been using it on both wifi and network and downloaded a full album (free one)

That's an issue with Shazam. It defaults to taking you to the website. I found it a little odd on my Droid and have seen that it's also the case on my Incredible. Contact the developers and ask for it to be added as a feature.

The ones I downloaded are the free song of the day.
I know there are more free songs. If you search you will find them.

I was using your apk for a few days now, but I just noticed that they finally added it to the market on the Incredible. So we don't have to go hunting for the most updated apks anymore. I'm liking version 1.7, it doesn't force close on me anymore.
This the answer I got from Shazam Support.
"Hi there
From talking to our Android development team about this issue; they’ve informed me that the fault actually lies with the Amazon application, not Shazam. We’re hoping that the Amazon application is updated soon to restore the previous level of functionality with Shazam.
Updates to the Android Shazam application are also due soon - You will be notified in-app when these updates are ready to download. I’m afraid I don’t currently have an exact date for release."
I installed the Amazon MP3 from the market and now Shazam sees it.

I updated to 2.2 and this Amazon mp3 crap is on there and wont uninstall through normal means (same with Wave secure) How do you uninstall these *locked* apps? I thought being able to remove this crud was the whole point of rooting the device? :s

Remove it through ADB per the instructions posted in the forum.
I've already master reset my phone, and the issue persists, so don't bother posting that as a solution.
There has been an issue going on for weeks where media playback stops working. Nothing plays, not even YouTube or media via the Flash Player. The YouTube player just says touch to try again. The Flash and Media Players error out saying the format isn't supported.
Not even the Camera or Video recorders work (gives a generic error message). The only way to get it to work is to power the phone down and back up, until it works again.
Dunno what the issue is. Is anyone having the same issues?
Stock 2.2 KB5 never modded phone with the stock SD card and the only 3rd party apps I have installed are the obvious ones (Twitter, Facebook, Engadget, XDA App, Google Apps, Beautiful Widgets, etc.). Prolly have < a page of 3rd party apps installed.
N8ter,
I was having a similar issue with YouTube and Pandora. After a certain time neither would work, Youtube would give the error message to touch again, and Pandora (or any other music player) would pull up the song it was about to play, then skip it and go to the next one, and on and on. The issue wouldn't go away until I restarted my phone.
Unfortunately I couldn't find a fix for it. I tried clearing the data, cache, etc. with no luck. I have a hunch that it might have to do with an app or a program the runs data in the background or with data itself, switching between wifi and data, or with flash. Of course I could be way off too, who knows.
Right now I'm running Bionix NextGen 1 ROM with Overstock kernel and so far the issue has not come up. Keeping my fingers crossed, and hope our fellow xda'ers have a solution to this problem.
I'm wondering if the OS is shutting down a needed service or something in the background. It's been happening since before KB5 update, but I haven't noticed it being so bad until recently because I put all my music on the Vibrant and it happens when playing audio files as well...
Oddly, ringtones and notification tones still function.
Hi N8ter, DO you have the twitter app installed? I ask this because my sister was having the same issue a couple of weeks ago (we both have vibrants running bionix 1.3.1 ) i really didnt know what was going on so I kind of ignored her issue. It was not until I created a twitter account and downloaded the twitter app that I started having the same problem. I removed the twitter app from both our phones and we havent had the issue for weeks now.
Its odd i know but it worked for me...
You know what, I have been having the same problem, and yes, I do have the Twitter app installed. I hope that is it (I'll try to report back here after a few days, but due to the sporadic nature of the problem, I won't be able to know whether that works). thank you for the suggestion.
I can't really believe that the twitter app might be the problem, but it has been 24 hours without the twitter app and I havent had to restart because my media files/you tube are unrecognizable. I read it somewhere else on xda. I will follow up if it seems that twitter is not the problem.

Yep. I just went to the T-Mobile site and found:
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Samsung-Vibrant/vibrant-file-glitch/td-p/760507/page/2
I just removed the Twitter app and reinstalled Seesmic for Twitter access (not big loss, it's not like Twitter had C2DM support and the phone natively syncs contacts and pictures anyways...).
I'll see how it goes.
Thanks guys... I never had media on my Vibrant until recently (the HD7's external speakers make the Vibrant sound like a Surround Sound system - don't even need headsets for this phone!) and the issue was starting to make me want to beat a baby...
Thank you so much everyone. xda ftw!
I updated to music 4.0 like is posted here.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/1...s-all-new-interface-better-controls-and-more/
I did lose my music, but was able to get it syncing again easily. Only thing... I don't have any playlists. I hope this isn't by design. I even tried creating a new playlist on the computer to see if it would find that one. No deal.
Anyone else??
Future FYI--
I don't know about different version support ie 4.0, but I have had good luck backing up/restoring playlists with MyBackUp Pro. So have never lost them--yet--

This apk isn't designed to work with 2.3.x it is for ICS.

Heh, really. So you don't think it's appropriate to ask if other people are having the same problem? That seems a bit strict... especially when it is being reported that everything DOES work.

Here's what I did to get the apk working (v4.0.1.501), with root access.
If you use Titanium Backup, use it to uninstall all existing versions of Music on your phone (this includes both the stock Music app and Music Beta).
Then install the apk.
Open the application, and you should see a notification asking for permission to connect to your Google account. Tap confirm.
Go to Settings, Applications, then Music and hit "clear data".
Go back to the Music app and your music should start syncing from the cloud.
If nothing happens, check that there is an item under Account Settings / Google account, for Google Music, and that sync is activated.
Hope it helps!

Hmmm, I still don't have mine. I even tried reinstalling. Maybe because I'm only 2.3.3... or I suppose who knows what it could be. Oh well... I can live with it this way for a couple of months I think. I really like the updated version.
Can anyone report if the usability of the player has been improved? I love the streaming feature of 3.0, but aside from that it is the worst music player I have ever touched. Stuff like not being able to create ad hoc playlists, the all songs from an artist playlist sorting the tracks in alphabetical order, and the pointless hiding of the notification bar in the landscape view make me want to punch someone every time I listen to music.
Finally figured it out. I downloaded the official app from the market, which I thought maybe would work... but it didn't. Then when maps 6.0 came out yesterday... well you all know the lack of internal space. So my N1 was so screwed, it wasn't even connecting to google servers and getting my mail because the space was so slow. I also noticed how the music app just kept saying it was syncing (the spinning circle).
I decided to cull the apps a little, and really free up some space. Well after about 20 minutes, finally my playlists appeared. So the music app was building a database, but then running out of space and stopping, and I guess it was leaving the playlists until the end. My database was also missing a lot of songs. An album might have been missing half the songs (of course they were all there on the web).
Just for the record, I'm not talking about pinning my music and downloading it or anything, I mean even just seeing the songs on the phone without offline access.
Hopefully I can live with almost no apps until January when I can get a GN.
Every time I try to download something it gives me an error saying it was unable to retrieve data from the database...or something of the sorts.
Anyone else having issues?
I take it you're in the US?

I think it's because they're still rolling it out. I can't even see the music section yet. You can use the web market for now, it works perfectly

Mm, would make sense. Yeah, it loads but says it cannot retrieve the data from the server.
Thanks for the heads up, I'll try the web version.
Everything I'm reading is that v3.3.11 is the version with music, but I have that version on both my Nexus One and OG Galaxy Tab and music is still not showing. Will it just show up eventually?

For me, I was at the movies last night and during the previews I saw on Facebook that Android posted that Music was live on the market. I opened up the market and it made me accept terms again like I just flashed a new ROM and when it was finished loading, I had a music tab.
So as an experiment, I went into settings/applications/manage/all and uninstalled all updates to the market, then went and opened the market, it asked about terms, accepted, then it showed an older market(2.3.4), backed out, loaded market again and it was the new market (3.3.11) and it's still not showing music.
It may still take some time for it to roll out, so I'll just wait some more.
I received an email from google about the new store/music app. In the email it said that they are rolling everything out over the next few days. The new app is available, but the store is gonna be a few more days.
Both my N1 and my OG Galaxy Tab have since started showing music now.
I was trying to help my parents stock EVO 4G's show music though, but their phones are still on Market 2.3.4 and I can't get them to update.
It's working for me
I just cleared data on my market, and the music tile showed up. Downloaded Busta's free song with no problems. Good luck.......

T-Mobile did a red carpet event today to officially announce the Music section, so it may be up now. I haven't checked, but I'll do so now..
EDIT-
Nope, still no luck. Using MIUI ROM, if that matters.
On CM7 kang and had to clear market data and uninstall updates for it to start working.
So, over the year(s), I have installed, tried, uninstalled, hundreds of android apps on multiple devices.
So I got my new Nexus 7 and wanted to browse through my list of apps in Google Play. Problem is that there are too many listed there. If you scroll through (I guess it's most recent first) it takes dozens of scrolls to get to the end.
And if I find a few things I want down near the end of the list, once you install one, the list goes back to the begginning!
I'd like to be able to remove from the Play Store listing, those 100 or so apps that I know I will never be reinstalling.
Also, the web version of the play store, only shows the first 180 or so, I can't even get to those labled P through Z!
Search yielded little so I turn to you for help.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
I'd like to know exactly the same thing. So far not found anything.

Permanently removing uninstalled apps
At this time, there is no way to permanently delete or remove apps from the Google Play website (My Orders/My Android Apps) or from the Google Play Store app (My Apps) that you’ve previously downloaded but have since uninstalled.
Too lazy to type lol...that was too easy but u sure knocked it out the park
Browse the play store in landscape so you don't have the list reset every time.
I wish they would at least let you filter your old apps... I'm much more interested in seeing the apps that I actually paid for lol.

Anyone wanting to see paid apps only, you need to install this modified play store APK from Modaco.

Just in case anyone is interested...
I've been a Springpad user for a while, and use the 'spring it' feature from the Play store app to create lists - purchased apps, essential apps, etc. It's really helped with organisation. I just click the saved link from Springpad, and I'm sent straight to the relevant Play store entry.
Yeah, so it's a bit of a dirty fix, but it suits me until Google get the Play store niggles sorted. Guessing it will work with other task/organisation apps, but haven't tried...
