Music 4.0 - no playlist sync - Nexus One General

I updated to music 4.0 like is posted here.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/1...s-all-new-interface-better-controls-and-more/
I did lose my music, but was able to get it syncing again easily. Only thing... I don't have any playlists. I hope this isn't by design. I even tried creating a new playlist on the computer to see if it would find that one. No deal.
Anyone else??

Future FYI--
I don't know about different version support ie 4.0, but I have had good luck backing up/restoring playlists with MyBackUp Pro. So have never lost them--yet--
Ken

I can't install the apk...
Allways get the notice 'application was not installed'
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App

you shouldn't install this music 4.0 if you expect everything to work.
This apk isn't designed to work with 2.3.x it is for ICS.

Works perfectly, just delete data after installing...

Heh, really. So you don't think it's appropriate to ask if other people are having the same problem? That seems a bit strict... especially when it is being reported that everything DOES work.

Here's what I did to get the apk working (v4.0.1.501), with root access.
If you use Titanium Backup, use it to uninstall all existing versions of Music on your phone (this includes both the stock Music app and Music Beta).
Then install the apk.
Open the application, and you should see a notification asking for permission to connect to your Google account. Tap confirm.
Go to Settings, Applications, then Music and hit "clear data".
Go back to the Music app and your music should start syncing from the cloud.
If nothing happens, check that there is an item under Account Settings / Google account, for Google Music, and that sync is activated.
Hope it helps!

Hmmm, I still don't have mine. I even tried reinstalling. Maybe because I'm only 2.3.3... or I suppose who knows what it could be. Oh well... I can live with it this way for a couple of months I think. I really like the updated version.

Can anyone report if the usability of the player has been improved? I love the streaming feature of 3.0, but aside from that it is the worst music player I have ever touched. Stuff like not being able to create ad hoc playlists, the all songs from an artist playlist sorting the tracks in alphabetical order, and the pointless hiding of the notification bar in the landscape view make me want to punch someone every time I listen to music.

Finally figured it out. I downloaded the official app from the market, which I thought maybe would work... but it didn't. Then when maps 6.0 came out yesterday... well you all know the lack of internal space. So my N1 was so screwed, it wasn't even connecting to google servers and getting my mail because the space was so slow. I also noticed how the music app just kept saying it was syncing (the spinning circle).
I decided to cull the apps a little, and really free up some space. Well after about 20 minutes, finally my playlists appeared. So the music app was building a database, but then running out of space and stopping, and I guess it was leaving the playlists until the end. My database was also missing a lot of songs. An album might have been missing half the songs (of course they were all there on the web).
Just for the record, I'm not talking about pinning my music and downloading it or anything, I mean even just seeing the songs on the phone without offline access.
Hopefully I can live with almost no apps until January when I can get a GN.

Google Music Sync

I noticed yesterday that my phone was constantly streaming data, even though I hadn't initiated anything. I'm used to the occasional blips, as email syncs, etc, but this was constant for about an hour.
Anyway, I decided to try and track down the source s, and it appears to be the gingerbread Music app (from CM7 nightlies), and android.process.media. Between these two, they have transferred over 30 meg, both up and down.
I've since turned off the Music Sync in the sync settings, and no more constant data transfer...
I wonder what mischief Google is up to...?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
That's a very good question. But I'm completely clueless. the obvious clonclusion is google is gathering data from phones. but for what purpose is unknown. This is my mission. will be on the search.
Sounds to me like the Music app is constantly sending queries and downloading the results. Possibly a bug with fetching album art? If it was repeatedly searching for and downloading album art over a period of a few hours this could add up. Still just a guess though.
You didn't happen to put the honeycomb music app on your phone did you?
I had it on my phone, and I had the option to sync Music in the accounts section (which is presumably for the rumored Google Music Streaming Service), it was trying to sync all the time (not sure how much actual data), so I just turned it off.
It may be the Honeycomb music app. It comes stock with CM7, so it's difficult to detect it's true source...
I was reading something about Google Music, and how it could be similar to Google Books, where all your content is stored online. Could be based around that, but that would imply that the web part it's working to some degree (which is interesting)...

Two days ago my phone ask me that one app need more permission... Guess what? Music sync.
I didn't change anything. So maybe this is a virus? or something?
... I got i9000+darky with new music app. But I found thread here.
I actually it's more likely to be tied to this:

Music Beta by Google: A Must Read For All Root Users!

I want to make sure that all root users who use Music Beta to know this:
I am rooted, of course... and it turns out that every time I wiped data on my Xoom, and then signed back into my Music Beta account on a fresh new install, it would end up adding my Xoom to my list of allowed devices again. My Xoom was actually listed 7 times on the Music Beta device list, followed by my Droid, which is a total of 8 devices, and is also the maximum amount that you can have. I could not get the Xoom to log into my account after another data wipe until I deauthorized a device from my list. (Screenshot attached below)
IMPORTANT LESSON OF THE DAY:
If you own a Xoom, are rooted, wipe data a lot, and you use Music Beta a lot... you will want to make sure that you check out your device list right away. I can guarantee that your Xoom is listed more than one time. If there are multiple device entries of the same thing, just remove them off your list. It's that easy!
And if you don't do this... eventually you will end up hitting 8 devices total like I did. Then you will have to remove at least one device entry from the list before you can use it again, because you are only allowed 8 devices at a time, even if it just so happens to be the same device listed 8 different times. Just be aware of that situation and you won't ever have a problem.
HOW TO FIX THIS:
Just log into the desktop version of Music Beta by clicking here, go into settings, and then you'll see a place to manage your devices. Just remove the multiple device entries from the list by deauthorizing them, and then... presto! We're back in business!
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Well, with the Tiamat Rom receiving a good number of updates recently requiring full data wipes... you will run into this problem soon enough, trust me, especially if you are a big user of the Music Beta app. I jumped Roms quite a bit and it added up very quickly until I finally realized that this was happening. In case you didn't know about this, you do now. Over time you will want to check back and remove the multiple devices just so you don't have any problems in the future.
If anyone has found this information useful or informative, please give me a thanks. Also, leave any comments if you have any. Thanks all!

Indeed. Media players such as PowerAMP (which is my favorite) blow Music Beta out of the water in terms of the UI and features. The reason people use this is, you are right... it's a cloud music player. No other app out there can connect to the Google Music servers. I personally like Music Beta and it's UI. And it's always a plus when you don't have to store all of your music on the SD card. Thank you cloud storage!
Although I would like more customization... I do enjoy using the Music Beta app. It's a solid build, and I am sure more updates are on the way to improve upon it even more.
Same thing applies if you're a Kindle user. My nexus was listed four times at amazon.

I fell into that trap with my phone.
took me like a day to figure it out
except the phone didnt give me a useful error - just said that i couldnt download and cache music
I'm having an issue with Google Music Beta. When installing the app on my Xoom WiFi it syncs without problems, but after a while the sync disappears and the music app indicates that I have no music. The only way to resolve it is by downloading and installing the app again - but then the same happens after a short while again, even if the Xoom isn't rebooted.
I have checked under Music Settings in my online account and only 4 devices are connected to the account, the Xoom not being one of them. I also deleted the data in the app to see if that helped. Has anyone experienced a similar issue?
I'm running the latest Tiamat rom.
Btw, it appears it's now possible to link up to 10 devices to the Music account.

For me, I was at the movies last night and during the previews I saw on Facebook that Android posted that Music was live on the market. I opened up the market and it made me accept terms again like I just flashed a new ROM and when it was finished loading, I had a music tab.
So as an experiment, I went into settings/applications/manage/all and uninstalled all updates to the market, then went and opened the market, it asked about terms, accepted, then it showed an older market(2.3.4), backed out, loaded market again and it was the new market (3.3.11) and it's still not showing music.
It may still take some time for it to roll out, so I'll just wait some more.
I received an email from google about the new store/music app. In the email it said that they are rolling everything out over the next few days. The new app is available, but the store is gonna be a few more days.
Both my N1 and my OG Galaxy Tab have since started showing music now.
I was trying to help my parents stock EVO 4G's show music though, but their phones are still on Market 2.3.4 and I can't get them to update.
It's working for me
I just cleared data on my market, and the music tile showed up. Downloaded Busta's free song with no problems. Good luck.......

T-Mobile did a red carpet event today to officially announce the Music section, so it may be up now. I haven't checked, but I'll do so now..
EDIT-
Nope, still no luck. Using MIUI ROM, if that matters.
On CM7 kang and had to clear market data and uninstall updates for it to start working.

Pay for Root Explorer from the market. Then debloat and debing your phone manually. I can show you how if you buy Root Explorer.
Yea I have root explorer what do I need to do?
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA
In Root Explorer, navigate to /system/app. In this folder you will see a list of all the pre-loaded apps which were installed from the ROM you flashed. To debing, simply find the bing.apk and delete it (or move it to your sdcard if you want a backup). You can perform this same action with all apps installed on your phone. At first, start small. Start with apps you can easily identify by the name or icon. Also, if an .apk file has a cooresponding .odex file, move/delete that as well. You may get constant force closes after removing an app if it is running at the time you removed it. Simply reboot your phone.
WARNING: Removing necessary system apps could cause serious problems. So, start small. If you have a question as to if you can remove a particular app or not, ask in this thread and I'll let you know.

OK, I removed a boatload of bloatware using Root Explorer.
Still have a couple issues;
Even though I removed the .apk and corresponding .odex files, restarted phone, I still have these in apps, and all work when opened;
Facebook
IM
Verizon video
VCast tones
And, even though the Bing icon is out of apps, it still opens Bing Search with a long press on the search icon on phone.
Any thoughts on how to get rid of these?
I've went all thru Root explorer and can't find these files anywhere, but they're still on the phone.
Thanks

Where are the ringtones stored? Bluetooth lag?

I have a 2014 Toyota Corolla LE.
I had a Nexus 6P. No issues at all.
I broke it and could only afford to replace it with a Nexus 5X. Project Fi.
Bluetooth lagged. Mouth moving on YouTube is off from what sound is playing.
Also, every time I started my car and switched to bluetooth a ringtone would start playing and wouldn't stop. You stop it and it starts back up again. You can play YouTube or Bandcamp, but the ringtone still played. This was a custom ringtone of my own I had dropped in the Ringtones folder. Not sure what the correct fix is, but changing my ringtone and deleting the file fixed it. I then stored the file in a different directory and re-added as a ringtone problem lagged.
Just got the LG V20 tonight. I was hoping it was just an issue with the 5X, but now seems it might be an LG thing? New phone does the same thing. Bluetooth lag. One of LG's ringtones plays on repeat every time I start bluetooth. I have no idea where they are stored. The ringtones folder is empty.

I have a 2014 Toyota Corolla LE.
I had a Nexus 6P. No issues at all.
I broke it and could only afford to replace it with a Nexus 5X. Project Fi.

I'm surprised that the phone is playing your ringtones. Do you have a third party app for playing music? I'd think the built in app would know to not play ringtones.
I think maybe if you put an empty file in the ringtone directory (I think called nomedia) it will stop playing the ringtone.
Of course the next problem may be that you won't have privileges to do that without root access.

Thanks. This is a brand new phone. I had absolutely NOTHING installed except for what came with the phone. I bought the phone, the guy said it takes 5-10 minutes to port over a phone number. I walked out to my car and my old phone already had no service! It was that quick! So I unboxed this phone and turned it on. The first thing I did while sitting in the parking lot was to remove all bloatware that it would let me. It had games installed and other crap. I didn't do any updates until I got home on WiFi.
The thing is the ringtone didn't start playing right away. I was listening to music from YouTube on my way home. I stopped for a bite to eat, drove home, and I don't remember when the ringtone started, but now every time my car starts (and it's on bluetooth) the ringtone starts playing on loop. Last night my Aunt/Uncle was over, so I couldn't park in the driveway. Cars aren't allowed to be on the street after midnight, so eventually I went out and moved my car. My phone was in the house and the main screen was off. When I came back in the house the ringtone was playing and the player was on the little screen.

Thanks.
I decided not to delete the ringtone in case I ever want it for something.
Let's see what happens now I set a custom ringtone of my own. When I had the Nexus 5X on, I had this dance song that I cut a piece out of.. it would loop "you can fight, but you can't always win" over and over.
So I looked. It's Google Play music that is opening. It plays the LG Life Is Good song over and over. Putting a nomedia file did not work.

Wierd.
You might check settings in Google PLay, and see if you can specify a path for it to play music from on your phone. If music is kept in a specific folder, say Music, and set the app to play music only from that folder, maybe that'll help.
I don't use Google Play Music, so I'm just reaching here.

I do not use Google Play Music either. In fact, I don't store music on my phone. It's on a USB drive directly in my car's dashboard. It never leaves.
Anyway, I may have found a fix, but it's 4:30AM and I can't exactly go outside and make noise, plus I am tired.
I opened the Play Music App and in settings there's something that says "Manage Downloads". On the bottom it shows the LG Life Is Good sound. I hit clear queue to get rid of it. I'm confident this will work, but I'll know when I wake up in 9 or 10 hours.

I'm confused. You said it is Google Play Music, then you said you don't use Google PLay Music.
I think any Google apps you DON'T use should just be uninstalled. As far as that goes, I uninstall all apps, or disable them, that I don't use.
On another note: I find it interesting that nobody else is replying here. I am finding the community for the LG V20 to be much less active than what I experienced in the Samsung forums. Also related to the community...no stickies for things that are so commonly needed.

I do not use Google Play Music. You cannot uninstall it. It comes with the phone. Might be part of Google Play. But anyway, you cannot uninstall it unless you are rooted. There is no root for Sprint LG V20 far as I know yet.
Other apps you cannot uninstall: Facebook, Instagram, Facebook Messanger, Sprint Spot, and some other Sprint stuff. I don't use any of that stuff.
While there is an "uninstall" button.. that is the most annoying feature. It uninstalls updates only and brings it back to the version that was installed with your phone, then it's annoying because it always shows you have an update ready.
Anyway, I haven't been outside yet to start up my car, but I think it'll solve my problem.
Interesting. As you might have guessed, I don't have my V20 yet. It's disheartening to hear some of those apps that can't be uninstalled. I wonder why they install apps not theirs that are obviously available on Play Store.
I guess I'll be forced to root.
I hope things work out for you. Keep me posted. I may find myself in the same boat.
You should be able to disable it.

Although, I still find it interesting that Google Play Music is part of the rom.
I think using Force Stop and Disabling is the only way to stop the madness, as I cleared out the Playlist and it automatically added my current ringtone.
Anecdotal but this sounds familiar to me. I feel like my husband may have been complaining about a similar issue with his phone playing some default preloaded music file when it connects to his car's Bluetooth.
The thing is.... He has a note 3 and a 2014 Ford Focus ST. So... Hmmm.
I'll have to see if it's really the same thing. I'll try to remember to ask him about it tomorrow.

I was previously with Sprint with an HTC One M8, but switched to Googles Project Fi, and now back to Sprint with the LG V20.
What I've noticed is it seems root seems to come out on other networks before they come out on Sprint. I can't comment on what software other companies pre-load on your system, but both times Sprint had 15-20 things. Some of it could be removed.. a few games, etc, but some cannot be removed so I Force Stopped them and Disabled them. I am unsure what comes back if I reboot my phone, but whatever for now I'll keep stopping them if I have to.
