So I had awesome battery life on kit Kat. 5:30-6hr SOT, 14-20 hr total. Loving it.
Then got the official 5.0 update. Battery life tanked. 3:30-4:30 SOT MAX. Still got good overall, but was losing battery life everywhere. Tried numerous things, couldn't get better.
Then a few days ago I got the 22.21.11 update.
Yesterday, I got 7hr 11m SOT. Today, I'm on track for the same. Anyone else getting results similar?

This is awesome news. I returned my nexus 6 because it was very difficult to handle with one hand, which is important to me, and have been thinking about the new moto x but the battery life held me back some. Now I will take it into consideration again. Curious to hear what others are seeing in the battery department after this update.

I guess my question is how? I know all the battery tricks and have good signal, and I'm lucky to pull 4 hours screen on time.

Further clarification:
Everything on except NFC. Location servixes on battery saving. Everything syncs regularly (dont use facebook or any social media), email, tapatalk, games etc. Screen is set to adaptive brightness.
Right now im at 6hr SOT, with 30% battery left. Off tge charger at 9:45 am.

Crap... The only difference in my usage is I have high accuracy on and I do use Facebook. I'm going to have to do some testing to see which one is killing more battery (my guess, Facebook)

What network are you on? I'm using straight talk on at&t. I've heard that can make a difference in battery performance as well. I get an excellent signal most of the time.

T-Mobile, but even all day on Wi-Fi doesn't get me your SOT.
Hmm well I've never used a Facebook app so I don't know the effects it has on battery life. But I'm sure it makes a difference
BT/WIfi/Location High on here. 2h 31m screen on time, I am at 29%. Google Play Services making up 16% of battery usage with screen at 9%. (on 22.21.11 clean install)
I've gotten much better battery life on .11
This was my first full day on it and so far I'm at 42%
Usage time 14h 44m
Phone - 1:01
Screen - 1:48
BT/NFC/Location bat sav/Moto adapt screen
I don't see how I could get 7 hours screen time...maybe if I have screen at min setting (which is useless to me) or if I stay in a dark room all day during usage...and then I doubt it.

I am right there with you. I feel like some of these SOT and battery times people are posting are unreasonable and unrealistic.
My following settings:
-I have Facebook and Messenger greenified (only launch them here and there)
-Google Now is Off
-Location Services are off (High Accuracy though)
-Sync limited to only Gmail/Calendar/Contacts/Chrome/Play Music
-Wifi Off
-Bluetooth Off
Even with those settings and the screen brightness turned down I get the following.
25% currently (6:45am til 11pm)
----------------------------------------
19% == Voice Calls (3:34m)
12% == Google Services
8% == Cell Standby
5% == Android OS
4% == Screen (1:42m SOT)
4% == Gmail
It doesn't make sense, even with multiple wipes and fresh installs, Cell Standby and Play Services are always issues for me, yet with the same settings they aren't on my old Moto X. I also recently switched from AT&T to T-Mobile and still nothing changed with cell standby usage. I am aware that my Voice calls will be higher since I am on my phone using it, but on days when my phone isn't getting as many calls, I only pull about 2:30-3hr SOT compared to 4-5 SOT people are bragging about.
My stats as of now. Came off the charger at 9:45, so 13.5 hours total

Just quick question, how do you clean install latest version? Or do you mean factory reset? I want to do like a format and clean install latest version but I'm guessing I would need to wait for moto?

I mean restoring KitKat first (Full wipe, includes partition gpt) and then pushing the OTA updates.

BrokenWall you and I both have high usage from Google Play Services, Qwerty here has 7h of screen on time and somehow Google Play services doesn't use anything. Makes no sense to me either.
Qwerty do you have Google Now / Location turned off?
I am just guessing that Google Now is our high Google Play Services usage? I really don't know.
I'd rather carry around a spare charger than turn Google Now off.

Yeah I have wiped the phone via a factory restore as well as done a full format and manually flashed the 11.6 update to try to resolve issues with a possible bad flash. And yes as stated Google Now is off for me, always has been.
No matter what my phone has always had Cell Standby as being higher on the list then everyone else, also lately with Lollipop I have had Play Services pushing towards the top. Issue here is that people brag about the screenshots and I don't really care to believe that 7H of SOT is his normal usage for his daily routine. And while I can see people getting 3h SOT without problems, there has to either be something wrong with some of the phones or something we just aren't aware of.
Facebook and other social networking apps will rape your battery. When I got the z3 compact I couldn't believe the battery life some people were getting. I wasn't getting anything close to it. I removed facebook, Instagram and Twitter (only leaving g+) and my battery life got significantly better.
However, even on the Moto X without social media apps I've never even hit 4 hours sot.. I usually get like 3 and change on my Moto X.
Google Plus for me eats up more battery than Twitter or Facebook. Dont know why.
I've been using android for years now and I've never once used google now.
What is it good for? I thought it was just useless junk.
Hi,
Just bought the LG G4,
it is a great phone!
The screen, sound, speed are amazing!
but just the battery life is too short.
When the phone was fully charged (98%)
I kept whatsapp and wechat running for sure.
I believe the full screen video playback is no longer than 1 hour
about 1 hour of game play. I believe it is a very heavy game. just pretend it needs much of juice
Total calls of 10 minutes within this 8 hours.
1 hours of music playback
No account auto sync everything else same as factory default.(when i was using Sony Xperia z2 i have everything turned on and i can easily reach 18hours)
I have no idea how can people can over 12 hours or even 2 days.
Now the phone is only 9% left.
What apps is best to analyse the battery use and what do i have to look for and avoid or uninstall?
You mentioned you just got it. Give it time to settle in. If it keeps happening try a factory reset. Also monitor the battery temp. There could also be an app that may be causing some issues.
Also if your comparing it to your last phone, Xperia Z2- Physical size its 5.2 inches compared to LG G4 5.5 it has less pixel density of 424ppi vs 538ppi of LG G4 and screen resolution 1080x1920pixels vs LG G4 1440x2560pixels. That factors into the battery life. You also now have a removable battery vs Xperia Z2. I'd say 8hrs is decent. I just got 2 replacement batteries and charger from Hyperion and getting my free battery and charger from LG. Battery longevity is definitely not an issue for me.

My first day was fantastic battery life. But maybe how you charged it influenced the first day? Hmm... Are you using Wi-Fi or 3G? I think for whatsapp 4G is overkill so I disabled it.

I'm sure your battery usage will get better after a day or two.
Also keep in mind that if you bought it in July you get a free extra battery, external battery charger, and leather back. Click Here
Also aftermarket batteries with higher capacity will be available in the future I'm sure ..that's what I did with my gs4
Sent from my LG-H810 using Tapatalk
Keep in mind that every time you reset and redownload/resync everything, it takes a lot of power.
Can you post some screen shots of total time on battery, as well as screen-on time?
Just a matter of patience. Battery life was horrible as well for me in the first two days and now two weeks in its phenominal battery life.
Actually i have been using the phone since last Saturday,
Everynight wait till 10% or lower than full charge until next day.
Now i can have around 10 hours. But I just don't know how people can reach 20 to 29hours.
Even at dimmest light, WIFI only it still can't reach 20hrs, can it?
Secondly i want to know is there apps that can monitor the voltage input and out put. I am saying a apps that can tell how much time i have spent on browsing, gaming, screen time, background services ...
Simply logging one day of usage.
Used 7.0hours with 35% left and say 3.5hours left
which cannot last one day for me
I am very happy with my battery so far. I shut off a bunch of crap and I can go almost the whole day. I know if root comes it will be amazing!
The LG g4 H815 international from UK I got battery life is ridiculous. I charged it yesterday, it sat unhooked all night long. I didn't even lose a percent until 10 hours off the charger. It was idle all night. But still, my Note 4 never did that.

Its very easy and you do not need root.
I want to mention that I had tremendous luck using the built in LG backup tool with a factory reset. Back the whole phone up using LG Backup. Factory reset it, and then restore the phone using LG Backup. The restore was nearly flawless for me (just a couple apps had to be uninstalled and reinstalled from the play store) and it literally doubled my battery life without changing any of the apps I had running. Not sure what it did exactly but it definitely worked.

Can you share a list of disabled apps? I disabled what I could but was not so sure about some apps so I must have some unneeded apps running. Nit that my battery life were that bad now but could be still better.

Mostly Im interested in apps that all G4:s have and that can't be disabled through Android or cause that annoying update available message in Play store.
Sent from my LG G4
When I first got my G4 I was experiencing poor battery life so I started experimenting by disabling various things. The most effective was turning off Google location history, for the first time ever I got 5+ hours of screen on time.
seems whenever i play games or full screen movie, the battery will drop tremendously.
I have enabled the "game optimizer" however i don't see any significant help.
usually when i play games and movie, the "last 3 h in use" will be above 25%
8 hours seems pretty good. I average 5-6 hours. And I have two batteries, both last about the same amount of time.
Hi all,
I've recently received a new update for my S5 international - XXU1BOE5. I also got S-View cover as a gift. After this two, I've noticed a bit of a battery drain. I am not sure if it's huge, but it feels like it drains much quicker then before. Hopefully is not the case that's making a drain.. I am keeping it closed at most times. My phone is not rooted so I can't use wakelock detectors and better battery stats etc. but looking @ official battery settings I've noticed this much talked about "Google Services" at the top of the battery usage. I've checked couple of times yesterday and it kept rising up to 21% ... I've read all around people talking about this Google play services drain.. but mine just says services not "play services". I've tried factory reset, cache wipes, wipe google play services cache etc.. but nothing seems to help, whenever I open my phone case slide for few secs 1% drops.. and this goes on all the time it feels really drainy I think I dropped for 8-10% over night on idle.. which feels abit too much.
Now please pardon my whine, but why is this Android still such a crap OS with all this battery problems? A 2800mAh battery can't even last a full day of good usage?? Seriously.. over all this years... it's still not good enough? I am beginning to think it's all a plan to get you to buy new phones.. which again have some bugs that make u go insane.. and are all crap. Sorry again for the salty whine talks but it pisses me off.

Sounds like possibly alot of stuff syncing in the background, go into accounts in the setting and adjust the sync settings for stuff.
Sent from my Tw5ted SM-G900A using Tapatalk
Hey thanks for reply. I have only 1 account added and that one has disabled sync. Still every day Google Services is the top of my battery consumption, peaking at 23% use.. I just don't get it. I dont use any backup, playstore etc yet the Services is the most consuming thing.
BOE5 drained the battery faster for me too, I downgraded back to BOD3, best battery life by far
Google Analytics and Location usually takes a lot of battery. I've disabled the location tracking and whatnot in settings and i've completely disabled the google analytics service because many apps don't have the option to opt-out of it.
Since a few days Google Play Store is eating up my battery: I go to sleep with 100% batt and wake up with 50%, if I check batt stats on top I have play store at 45%, with 5h active a d 2h of CPU.
Follows Android system at 5%.
Going crazy why...
mine is too. hopefully mm update should sort it.

Has anyone else noticed Google Play Services using a large percentage of battery after the April security update from last week? 20% of battery being used. Screen usage is 2.5Hrs and 7 percent. I dont know what it could be. I even did a factory reset and the problem still exists. I have not added any new apps since before the security update. Any help would be great. thank you

Google play and services has always been a battery hog, on all phones and versions. That's why some people block some of its functions or get rid of Google altogether and use a Google free rom like lineageos.
the G7 doesn't have good battery life at all in my experience. Moto should of Gave a 4000mah battery.
