I'm hitting 41 hours and still have 19% battery life. I noticed it took around 10 full charges before my phone started to get this great battery life. I've been using it as normal and even listened to howard stern for a couple of hours yesterday. Talked on the phone a bunch of times around 30 texts and even used my 4g for a few minutes. I've never had an andorid phone last this long for me even when I had my Optimus S which I thought was awesome.
Anyone else getting this awesome battery life? I'll post screen shots when its about dead as I dont want to plug the phone into usb to get the pics.
Charging twice a day here. Its worse than my hero.

I would investigate as that shouldnt be. My shift lasts almost 2.5x my hero. I bet if I had your phone in front of my I could find out whats killing it soo fast.
Is your phone getting hot? I would do a full system wipe and start over from scratch and see if it doesnt get better after you try the things I've listed below. Note, I didnt have this great of battery life until 6 days after I purchased the phone and charged and discharged numerous times. The first few days the battery life was not good at all.
A little list of things to do, check and or disable;
1. Use spare parts and find out whats killing your battery ie partial wake usage, cpu etc.
2. Turn your window animations from all to only some animations
3. Turn off automatic display and keep it around 20-30%
4. I have auto sync off on all my appz (E-mail, Gmail, Facebook etc.). I update my E-mail and such manually.
5. Turn off data when not using it. I find data accounts for around 15-25% of juice used and thats just when on idle.
6. Only use widgets on the homescreen if you really have to (Running widgets use a lot of power over time)
7. Use Android Hackers tool from the market and it will break down how long your cpu was in a certain state. ie my cpu spent 65% at 245mhz and 28% at 806mhz.
8. Keep off 4G, Bluetooth, wirless networks for location and GPS if not using it (GPS uses less power than wireless networks and is more accurate anyway) I assigned Quick Settings to open when I hold down the search button. That makes it easy to enable/disable any of these setting within seconds.
9. Turn off google talk and make sure it doesnt sign in automatically (most people dont realise this)
10. Turn screen timeout to 15 or 30 seconds (if longer your phone can keep the display on accidentally while in your pocket if a button is pressed, wasting power)
11. Dont use a task killer unless its to kill an app you know drains your battery and therefore must be closed to save juice
12. Check your apps. Some apps keep using cpu etc because they were not programed correctly. (some appz I've found to drain my battery are; Yahoo Mail, Craigslist, AndTorrent and the market if a download is hung up. There are a few others I cant remember off the top of my head) If your phone is getting hot for no apparent reason this may be the cause.
13. Calibrate your battery by bump charging (charge your phone till its full while on, turn it off and charge till its full again. Then bump charge it around 5-7 times) Wipe battery stats if applicable. If you have a car charger, plug your phone in on the way to work to account for the little bit of drain that occurs once the phone is fully charged yet still on the charger.
Remember you can get china made batteries for very cheap. I paid $12 for 2 batteries and a wall charger off ebay. This phone uses the same batteries as the Hero and Evo by the way.

I noticed Yahoo mail and Craigs list apps I downloaded from the market have a memory/cpu leak that kills your phone super fast.

yahoo mail DESTROYED my battery life on my hero so i havent used it in forever...sad to see it still had that problem....also I stopped using any battery widgets that show the exact percentage (as these are usually wrong anyway) and went back to using stock browser (Miren browser, while I really liked it, was eating my...)....i now check my battery through the settings....I was having varying battery life but after recalibrating by letting it die all the way then charging it up full i most recently got like 30 hours off the charger with moderate use and got down to 10%....coulda probably squeezed out a few more hours too if i left it idle....not too bad

I find that Battery indicator doesnt draw much power if any as I've always used it and never had a problem. The maker of the app states it uses no extra power. I love the circular battery indicator version found in the market. Its not a widget, it stays in the upper left corner of your notification bar. You should give it a try.
Phone doesn't get hot. I've started from scratch twice, I've ##DATA# reset. I had terrible service and data speeds before I did that and it did a number on my battery. Now it'd fine, but it just drains while doing nothing.
I never use task killers or auto sync, I live with spare parts and and monitor it, no real partial wake usage to speak of. I know how to save battery, my hero get 20+ hours with use and auto-sync on.
I'm thinking my battery might be bad. Feels like your talking down to me too, captain.
Sent from my bathroom, with toilet paper.
I haven't had mine a week yet, but atm I'm not getting half the battery life I did outta my Hero running AOSP's Gingerbread alpha.
I'm blaming the crap bloat that's part of the stock ROM.
With the display set to 15-20% I've got the display accounting for 69% of the battery usage. :/
Turning off sync is not an option and I feel defeats the purpose of a smart phone. Additionally, I fail to see the point in paying for 4G and not using it. (I do turn it off if I'm out of area for it or don't expect to be using much data.)
So thus far I'm disappointed in the battery life... but still think it'll improve vastly once rooted and cleaned up.
EDIT: Just did a test running Angry Birds for about 10 minutes... maybe 15. It ate up 9% of the battery in that time. Added another 1% to the display usage.

Miren's latest update last week is supposed to have "reduced battery usage". I've had no problems. Maybe time to come back to the Light..?

hey that's really impressive. I thought my 20 hours battery life was pretty good...kudos to you.
def getting better bat supply. especially from my hero which only lasted about 6-8 hours, just got my shift yesterday afternoon. from a full charge: Constant texting, facebook, Zenonia 2 (Downloaded wifi), Snes emu + 11 roms (3G), and customizing it to my hearts content. almost 12 hrs later had 20% until i plugged it up at work.
so far this thing is a golden brick to me
Just out of curiosity, how do you calibrate the battery? Just in case my battery life doesn't match the reports (I know my luck )

Its under # 13 on my 3rd post.
getting great battery life isn't that surprising given you've got a 1500mah battery much like the evo and epic however 48 hours is rather impressive.

Working on calibrating my wifes battery and damn this thing is hard to kill. Even with with everything running for 5 hours its still over 20% finally decided to bring out the big guns. Turned on navigation and the flashlight. I'll post when I see the battery life after calibration.
Sent from my cm7 Evo 4G!
Edit: Phone plugged in at 7:53pm PST. Now to see how long it takes to charge.
Edit #2: Phone finally fully charged almost an hour after my evo finished its 0 to 100 at 12:19am
Edit #3: Holy F***. This phone takes forever to die and to die. Finally on the second off charge. I wouldn't still be doing this but for the fact that its saturday.
I have turned off Google Now as the drain seems to be a silly amount. I never saw drain like this on my S3 so I am just wondering if it is a software issue? Really hope this isn't normal as I would like to have Google Now on.
I just disabled Google Now as I was watching the battery meter go down while I was using the device for a few minutes at time. This is with the official JB OTA for Canada on the S3.
I will monitor it over the next few hours to see if it made much of a difference.
This is quite unfortunate to hear. I sold my One X to buy a Nexus 4 and have been using a loaner iPhone 4S from a friend and have been lamenting the loss of Google Now and was excited to get it back.
I suppose I should invest in some qi approved charging mats and restock the micro USB cables at home, in my car, messenger bag, and gym bags.
I think Google now battery drain all has to do with signal strength. I enabled it over the weekend while I was home and battery life was great (WiFi and good hspa signal). Im at work today and my signal sucks as usual and battery was 50% light usage before noon!
No thanks google, turned it off.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
This phones battery issues seem to stem from these kinds of services using too much power. Google now and fetch services are constantly checking in on everything from location to messages to calendar etc etc. .. Fine, but the juice it seems to take up is excessive.
Wifi seems to be using more juice than normal. It's the worst phone overnight or in standby too, it drains away.
Disable all this stuff and turn of wifi and its great... But you phone is as useless as a 1998 Nokia by today's standards.
I hope it is software and OS related.
I still have my galaxy s2 and I have been using both phones side by side as both are set up with my google account. The nexus is still needing my number to transfer so I don't use it for calls... Needless to say I get a whole day extra with the s2... Even with wifi and location services ON !
I had this issue with the Galaxy nexus. Google Now drained the hell out of the battery. Disabling it helped battery life greatly. I gave Google Now a try on the N4 and I had the same results. After getting a full charge all night the battery was around 50% by noon with barely any usage at all (maybe 5 texts and no calls). After disabling Google Now my phone is still around 90%+ by noon with the same light usage.
Same experience with google now on Gn, N4 and N7. I disable it and never use it.
Long story short i was running late and my phone was on top of my tv dinner from the freezer in my lunch bag. It was on it for at least an hour, it wasn't too cold but the phone was a little cold like 3 to 4 times more thn normally. Do you think it has possible damage or am i being too worried?
What excuse can i say to exchange it? Is been having heat issues and some days the battery only last 7 hrs. I got it from radioshack

If it's "having heat issues and some days the battery only last 7 hrs" then say it gets hot and the battery dies too fast... but I'd bet some app is running the cpu at max all the time. Ever looked at the battery usage in settings?
Maybe try a factory reset and don't install non-google apps to see if it clears up.

Alright I'll try that but I always make sure to close all my background apps, maybe 7 hrs is exaggerating but more like 9-12 hours
For comparison I've been seeing 50-65% battery left after 12 hrs off charger.
Even after 24 hrs off charger with average usage I had 30% this AM. It actually streamed Play Music all evening through bluetooth while I worked. I'd be upset if it needed charging after 12 hours.
I've turned off as many bloatware apps as I can in App Manager. I don't know really if that helps much with CPU load as I've always heard that Android handles memory and running services differently than Windows. It can certainly help with data usage, and by extension battery life if some AT&T or Samsung service is reaching out constantly.
I do not regularly kill any apps as some devs seem to think that killing apps has a worse effect than leaving them for the OS to manage since many apps restart anyway. I tend to think that the people who wrote the OS software probably know more about memory management than I do. That doesn't preclude a crappy 3rd party app from causing issues.
If after removing unnecessary apps and/or resetting you still have poor battery life and high temps you may indeed have a dud battery or device.
From my experience in repair, most returns/service for faulty brand new products are user problems; I see it every day. But there are occasional real problems.
So I had awesome battery life on kit Kat. 5:30-6hr SOT, 14-20 hr total. Loving it.
Then got the official 5.0 update. Battery life tanked. 3:30-4:30 SOT MAX. Still got good overall, but was losing battery life everywhere. Tried numerous things, couldn't get better.
Then a few days ago I got the 22.21.11 update.
Yesterday, I got 7hr 11m SOT. Today, I'm on track for the same. Anyone else getting results similar?

This is awesome news. I returned my nexus 6 because it was very difficult to handle with one hand, which is important to me, and have been thinking about the new moto x but the battery life held me back some. Now I will take it into consideration again. Curious to hear what others are seeing in the battery department after this update.

BT/WIfi/Location High on here. 2h 31m screen on time, I am at 29%. Google Play Services making up 16% of battery usage with screen at 9%. (on 22.21.11 clean install)
I've gotten much better battery life on .11
This was my first full day on it and so far I'm at 42%
Usage time 14h 44m
Phone - 1:01
Screen - 1:48
BT/NFC/Location bat sav/Moto adapt screen
I don't see how I could get 7 hours screen time...maybe if I have screen at min setting (which is useless to me) or if I stay in a dark room all day during usage...and then I doubt it.

I am right there with you. I feel like some of these SOT and battery times people are posting are unreasonable and unrealistic.
My following settings:
-I have Facebook and Messenger greenified (only launch them here and there)
-Google Now is Off
-Location Services are off (High Accuracy though)
-Sync limited to only Gmail/Calendar/Contacts/Chrome/Play Music
-Wifi Off
-Bluetooth Off
Even with those settings and the screen brightness turned down I get the following.
25% currently (6:45am til 11pm)
----------------------------------------
19% == Voice Calls (3:34m)
12% == Google Services
8% == Cell Standby
5% == Android OS
4% == Screen (1:42m SOT)
4% == Gmail
It doesn't make sense, even with multiple wipes and fresh installs, Cell Standby and Play Services are always issues for me, yet with the same settings they aren't on my old Moto X. I also recently switched from AT&T to T-Mobile and still nothing changed with cell standby usage. I am aware that my Voice calls will be higher since I am on my phone using it, but on days when my phone isn't getting as many calls, I only pull about 2:30-3hr SOT compared to 4-5 SOT people are bragging about.
My stats as of now. Came off the charger at 9:45, so 13.5 hours total

BrokenWall you and I both have high usage from Google Play Services, Qwerty here has 7h of screen on time and somehow Google Play services doesn't use anything. Makes no sense to me either.
Qwerty do you have Google Now / Location turned off?
I am just guessing that Google Now is our high Google Play Services usage? I really don't know.

Yeah I have wiped the phone via a factory restore as well as done a full format and manually flashed the 11.6 update to try to resolve issues with a possible bad flash. And yes as stated Google Now is off for me, always has been.
No matter what my phone has always had Cell Standby as being higher on the list then everyone else, also lately with Lollipop I have had Play Services pushing towards the top. Issue here is that people brag about the screenshots and I don't really care to believe that 7H of SOT is his normal usage for his daily routine. And while I can see people getting 3h SOT without problems, there has to either be something wrong with some of the phones or something we just aren't aware of.
Facebook and other social networking apps will rape your battery. When I got the z3 compact I couldn't believe the battery life some people were getting. I wasn't getting anything close to it. I removed facebook, Instagram and Twitter (only leaving g+) and my battery life got significantly better.
However, even on the Moto X without social media apps I've never even hit 4 hours sot.. I usually get like 3 and change on my Moto X.
Google Plus for me eats up more battery than Twitter or Facebook. Dont know why.
I've been using android for years now and I've never once used google now.
What is it good for? I thought it was just useless junk.
Hi Friends,
Just wonder if this is normal for this phone, or you guys could give me some pointers for extending my battery life, specifically the Screen On Time?
I have:
- Stock QC2 firmware - I believe this is Nougat with the March security patch
- No Facebook installed (Disabled)
- I am on data about 8 hours a day, rest is WiFi, Bluetooth for my Watch, and NFC is off
- Generally use a black and red theme
- Doing Ad blocking with the AdClear VPN solution
- Sometimes I make conference calls of under 2 hours
- No games, no YouTube watching
With this set I can barely manage like 3 hours of SOT. Is this normal? What am I doing wrong? Any pointers? Thanks!
3 hours SOT is not normal for unrooted stock. I would suggest downloading GSam Battery Monitor and finding out what is hogging the battery. Note that you will need to manually enable the battery statistics permission with ADB for some reason, but after that it will work like normal.
The top two lines should be Android System and Kernel. If you see any non-system app in the vicinity, that is your likely culprit unless you can explain it with normal usage (for example, Firefox is at the top of the list on mine because I surf the web with it)
Alternately, if nothing odd shows up, you may have a bad battery.
The other thing you might take a look at is shutting off the Location setting that scans Wifi/Bluetooth. That is a massive battery killer
Thank you for the helpful responses guys! I'll try GSam Battery stuff... What are your SOTs BTW?
Thanks!
Also my vibration is always on, my back lit keys are always on, and a 30 second screen timeout time, if it helps? Thanks!
Finally, this is the AT&T model with all the bloat disabled.
I'm typically off charge 18 hours and on data the entire time. I do run a Exchange email app that pushes email, my SOT isn't really huge, maybe around 2-3 hours and I also have BT always on and connected to my S3 Frontier. At the end of my day, I end up with with battery around 50% ish.........
Did you recently update, or did you do a clean install? Sometimes the battery can take a few days to settle in

Battery life is SO subjective. The app's installed and the person's usage habits play a massive part in battery life, and you saying that you never get what others are, speak a lot to that.
The built in optimizers in Nougat seem to do a pretty good job at putting unused battery sucking apps to sleep.

I agree bud, so I think my usage pattern must be horrible, cause from the earliest Androids like Droid Incredible to Axon 7 and S7 Edge and others, I never get what people mention. And some of their claimed usage is ridiculous, they say they play games all day, LTE, Videos and still get like 5 hours or etc... Boggles my mind. My biggest battery hog I suspect is my VPN based AdGuard, maybe the vibration, but compared to gaming and etc, they sound so insignificant.

I notice one thing, when i connect my Gear 2 by bluetooth battery on phone less about 10-15% less. With out watch and no FB and FB messenger, NFC on, most of day on data, wifi off, 5-6 hours call ( do to nature of my job) i get around 3.5 hours SOT.

Yeah, that's more like my usage. Without my Watch, this may be the case. I don't use NFC. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

This is a actually normal for USA SAMSUNG battery which is why no1 should get Galaxy S7 on USA carriers battery is even 100 maH smaller at 3500. Battery is always crap usa versions. And I am stuck in them nougat is bad for battery nothing you can do but downgrade to Android 6.0.1 with Odin. Best battery I can upload a vid for proof att Samsung S7 edge battery sucks and so will all USA carriers s8 never buying Samsung again GG. Switch phones best option iPhones have best battery but I hate them. I'd go for a phone with biggest mAh in specs and read reviews for battery. If downgrading doesn't work sorry for all Samsung lovers who read this it's just fact if you actually compare USA version to international. Battery on international is 92 ish hours not even close on USA version +1 sorry for my rant. Second best option I went to zero lemon and got a battery charging case that was like 10000 something maH and I never loose battery because I keep case on entire time makes phone weigh 4 pounds tho

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, bud, I think I would agree, this must be reality. An update for me, seems like getting rid of the VPN based Adblocker has helped battery. Last night, I finally got 4 hours SOT, but that was with the VPN app. Trying without it all day, let's see how it goes.
BTW, hands down, the best battery I have ever seen in the US is on the Huawei Mate 9, even on Nougat. The HUGE battery helps, but legitimately, I was getting 7 hours of SOT.
Thanks guys!
Got the attached SOT after turning off the VPN based ad blocker and using it as needed, rather than on the whole time... Is this closer to normal? ?
I only get 3-4hrs SOT but it is connected to my huawei watch and music is playing when it connects to my bluetooth fm transmitter in my car. I also usually have it plugged in while driving. The best battery life SOT I've seen is on the moto z play. My sister has that phone and she got almost 9hrs SOT. Usually gets at least 7. Someone got over 10.
