[SOLVED, APN] No mobile network connection on LG V20 H990DS - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I SOLVED IT JUST BY CONFIGURING AN APN. IT WAS TRIVIAL ALL ALONG, I'M A ****ING DUMBASS
Hi ya'll,
Yesterday I got me a V20 H990DS and proceeded to unlock it with dirtysanta.
I soon noticed I can't connect to the mobile network at all (network status is disconnected, always). Everything else works ok, SMS, Wifi, calls.
I flashed back to stock using a kdz and the problem remains the same. I have a couple of ideas as for what to do next:
Flash the modem: I remember having the same problem with my LG G4, all I had to do was to flash the appropriate modem. I don't know how to flash modems or where to get them though.
Flash the correct kdz: the packaging and an IMEI checker both state the phone is AUS and I might have flashed a wrong version of it. Another IMEI checker claims it belongs to the ABC region (?). Frankly, I don't think it even matters.
Use the secret menu to fix some network configurations: I know absolutely nothing about it so you'd have to guide me.
The bottom line is, I need help, please.

Flash this using LGUP and use only Partition Download option.
https://lg-firmwares.com/downloads-file/4345/H990ds10b_00_OPEN_ESA_DS_OP_1102.kdz
You will get Blue screen saying phone reset status 2.
Then go to download mode again and flash Indian version v10j available on the same website.
Use same Partition Download option this time also.
Once successfully flashed... Phone gets its signals.
Try this and update
Cheers

Hi, Thanks for the reply.
I'm using LGUP 1.14 with uppercut and I can't find any "only Partition Download option", The options I have available are: Refurbish, Upgrade, Phonesetting and FOTA Upgrade.
Which of these options should I use? Should I get a different version or LGUP?
I'd like to be 100% sure before I flash my phone again.
Thanks again.

Try installing this...LGUP.zip file contents and try again. Uninstall your old version before proceeding. If your phone is detected in download mode as H990DS, then you should be able to see the options.
If your phone is not detected, then unzip V20 dll and paste in root folder of LGUP in the C/programfiles path.
Cheers

Sorry for questioning every step of the process, Flashing partitions is a serious business and I don't want to brick my phone, it's brand new.
Thanks in advance

Important... download only indian version as given in link for H990DS and when you get dialog, select all and press start...in 3 min your phone will reboot and thats it, your phone is back to life

I flashed to the first kdz and then the second one, just like you told me, There's 0 difference. No mobile network, the rest is unchanged.
I think it might have something to do with regional settings of frequencies and bands, I'm in Israel so maybe I need to change some settings on the secret menu.
I'll ask around and update you if I find a working solution.

Great news you guys!
Apparently all I needed to do was to configure an APN with my provider's details, that's it.
I'm ecstatic!

hoyl crap omfg i love youuu u save meeeee can i donate to you?!!!
For the life of me, I simply can't find the kdz for international D802 (I have an Australian D802 that bricked just before). Do we have a kdz somewhere to get, or do we do something else? Many many thanks for any help! (It's driving me insane, I couldn't get sleep last night, insomnia from chronic pain and from a simple ROM update of the ROM I nomally use, I got the fastboot default boot screen brick. Not a good time to get bricked, friend sms'ing me to pop over, he doesn't use the phone, just sms, so I can't let him know I'm home LOL
Here's what I found that has firmwares for Australian and other G2 variants http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=36
I'd just use the Open version of the ROM. But you can also do an IMEI check on LG's site and see which ROM version is the latest for your specific phone, download the .kdz and flash it.
my g2 was boot looping after flashing PA rom. so i went to download mode to go back to stock and I had the problem where it freezes at 49%. I uninstall the modem as per your method and tried to flash stock again. however the same thing happened again. can i get some help? thanks

[Q] Cloudy Pro II - LS980, no data/network settings

I have installed this ROM and I absolutely love it. I have one problem with it, though. I have no data at all. I tried looking for the LTEConfig.apk to delete this and it's not present in /system as it is suggested. I also cannot change my APN settings because I am unable to click on network settings, as a matter of fact I cannot even turn it on. There is even no option to update the PRL/Profile like most roms. I'm using the LS890 - Sprint Variant. I flashed the LS890-BS-Cloudy.zip and it didn't help as I have no other issues other than the missing network settings. Anyone else having this issue? If so, any fix to this?

@Cloudyfa , is there any fix for this?
I installed the baseband before the rom, then the rom, went through my setup, installed everything, rebooted, nothing, installed the bootstack as per this post, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51974589&postcount=281&nocache=1 and nothing.

Yes, yes I have. I idiotically flashed the radio from the ZVC update which gave me a boot certificate error and ended up flashing zv8 from the tot so I'm starting all over again. This time around I'm upgrading from ZV9 to Cloudy Pro II. Let's see how that goes. I'll be done in a few minutes. I'll post back afterwards.

Try pull down the notification bar and long-press "Data"
Theres a fix for that already.
1.)Make sure you have root
2.)Download APN Backup from play store and system/app mover
3.)use system/app mover to make APN Backup a system app
4.) Open APN Backup and press the menu button and click disable ICS
5.) Backup your apns
6.)flash ROM of choice
7.) Repeat steps 1 through 4
8.) Restore apn

So just to be clear, I'll do this on my stock KITKAT rom, back up, flash cloudy pro 2, restore, and profit???
I'll give it a try right now!!!
@Cloudyfa this is something that should be on your faqs thread. I'll confirm if it works for me in a few seconds!
Yup. It works. Thank you so much! I wish I didn't have to go through all of this to make it work, as it would be great to just have a PRL/Profile update button back on the settings, but this is a nice workaround.
@Cloudyfa @LilDemon124, did you ever get a problem where you try to send a text message and it says NO USIM? I've tried removing and reinserting the SIM and it still doesn't work.

[Guide] How to ROOT + TWRP + Install Nougat on Canadian LG D852

*** Important: Your Warranty Is now Void. Always take a Nandroid backup. I am not responsible if you damage your phone or lose any data***
Hello everyone. I created this guide for the Canadian D852 since I didn’t find anything that was straight forward. Credit goes to all the developers who made it possible for us to keep using our beloved LG G3.
This is my first attempt to create and share a guide. I hope it will be useful to other users. If you find any error or have suggestions, please send me a message.
Download all the files before you begin. Do not forget to copy your ROM and GAPPS to your SDCARD before you install TWRP.
Go back to Lollipop using LGUP **Always use USB 2 port. It won't work with USB3**:
Download your kdz (d85220… not d85230). I downloaded mine from:
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-d852-firmwares/
Follow these instructions (works with D852 don’t worry):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64624353&postcount=3
Choose the kdz from your provider. For example, I have an unlocked Fido phone but I want to use it with Bell. So I used the Bell 20k KDZ.
When selecting a file to flash, type *.* and press Enter in the filename for your .kdz to show up. If you do not, it will only show .tot.

}
Root your phone using this method:
Enable ADB debugging.
Unplug usb cable.
Go to Settings > About Phone > Software Information and tap build number until you are presented with "You are now a developer".
Back to Settings screen.
In Developer Options, enable USB Debugging.
Connect usb cable.
Click OK when asked to allow USB debugging in android.
I use the root.bat method. If it doesn’t work go back to step 1 and try again.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3129197
Install TWRP using Autorec:
Copy the rom and GAPPS to your SDCARD before you install TWRP.
Download the file from here:
https://mega.nz/#F!rtI1naZT!LJIKUVpv8fYjrvhpykA4_A!2o433RBZ
Transfer the file to you internal or external SD card.
Head in to Settings -> General -> Security, then scroll down until you see Unknown sources. Tick the checkbox, then hit OK on the next prompt.
Install APK via the file manager.
Open App.
Grant root access.
Wait a few seconds while it does some backup.
Wait for prompt to say that it is ready to flash.
Click the button to Flash TWRP.
Wait for it to be done.
Phone will reboot into TWRP
Update TWRP to the latest version if you want.
Download and install Nougat rom. Tested with CrDroid v3.6 and open_gapps-arm-7.1-nano.

**I’m not sure if it’s necessary but I did it anyway** Flash Dene Hybrid Baseband via TWRP (don’t forget to wipe cache and dalvik after) if necessary (mobile data is unstable etc…).

That’s it! Enjoy Android Nougat!
N.B. That is the only way I was able to get a stable mobile data connection. Only flashing baseband did not work for me.
Thanks, barguin, for a very informative thread.
How is the battery life on this Nougat ROM? I will be switching from Fulmics MM, and my provider is Fido.
Battery is very good. I can do a full day easyly.
Regards!
@barguin: thanks for the quick response. Did you try Exposed for Nougat? I know that Exposed is frowned upon in the CrDroid thread, but there are a couple of modules I would like to try. Thanks.
I do not use exposed...sorry.

Personally I had some problems with lg flash tool.
There is no need to enter download mode! LGUP will do it for you.
I read the heading in this thread and it said something about not downloading the D85230 file .. and my phone is D8530g as shown in the screenshot .. so is the D85220 file gonna damage my phone .... Sorry for the newbie question !
Sent from my LG-D852 using XDA Free mobile app
The D85220 file will not damage your phone. Instead, that file will install an older Android version on your phone, namely Lollipop (this step is required to gain root). You are currently on Android Marshmallow, and you will end up with Android Nougat if you complete all steps correctly. The procedure is meant to work like this, one step back, two steps forward.
The "20" or "30" in the file names (on that website hosting KDZs) have the following meaning:
"20" = it's a Lollipop file
"30" = it's a Marshmallow file
"40" = it's a Nougat file (I can only wish, there is no such Nougat file).
But seriously, the procedure requires more than a modicum of familiarity with flashing and with using various pieces of software. There is potential for bricking your phone.
No offense, but, judging from your question, I would suggest that you should enlist the help of a friend who is a bit more knowledgeable on this topic.
Guys .. Can I use the ROM on D855?! If not, so how to flash the ROM without getting any issues?!!
Thanks.
Do not flash the rom on the D855 it's only for the canadian variant.
Did this on my d852 and it's stuck booting on Oreo, Nougat, and stock Lollipop. Happened after I installed TWRP, any fixes?
edit: i think it was the roms.. got 3 bad ones i guess lol. fulmics worked.
Just an FYI, I followed the LGUP instruction for my Bell D852 but it was soft bricked, doing the flash using "refurbish" instead of "upgrade" did it for me and I was able to finish rooting my device!

I do not hear the sound of the media played when I plug in the phone.
please help me.
Thanks alot man, this was super handy!
Edit: Seems I've got that problem where shutting the phone off bugs it and it won't turn back on unless you remove the battery and put it back in. It also resets the time. Kind of annoying. Seems to happen to some D852s after installing TWRP.

Boost E4 1766 Only Boots to TWRP

-Screwed up somewhere as my goal was to install LineageOS and try to use it on an At&t mvno.
-Package was unopened for months, so it still had the older firmware.
-Everything seemed okay after I unlocked the bootloader.
-Then I installed TWRP.
-Did a backup of everything using TWRP before I was going to try and root the device.
-I knew something was wrong when no verity opt encrypt and Magisk gave some error message and failed.
-Now whenever I boot the device, I get a N/A in the top left corner and then goes into TWRP.
-Restoring the backup using TWRP did nothing.
-I thought this would be the solution (dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/misc bs=1M), but I get the bad key first and then N/A before going back to TWRP.

What should I do now?
Any help would be appreciated. Even links to other posts that dealt with this issue is fine. Be aware that my skill level is only a little better than following Youtube videos.
Thank you.
N/A is normal. It will be there forever after you unlock bootloader. Did you format data in TWRP and type yes to format?
Thanks for the reply.
As far as I know, I did not format within TWRP. Is that my next step? If not, please advice what should be done next.
My concern is something is wrong because both the suggestions you gave in that other thread did not result in the phone booting to Android properly.

once you flash TWRP you have to flash a no verity zip and probably magisk and definitely format data to remove encryption for your phone to boot.
Installing no verity zip and magisk produced the following. Did I do this properly because there looks like multiple errors?

I can't read that, LoL. Maybe... Failed toount data? That's because you're still encrypted.
Put the zips on external storage. Format data, type yes.
Now reboot recovery (not system) then flash the zips.
And you can take screenshots in TWRP.
Thanks so much.
I followed your instructions plus the one from the other thread. Phone is now able to boot to the stock Android. I guess my next step is doing a little more research before trying to install LineageOS to see if the phone works well enough on a USA GSM mvno.
One more question please.
On the E4, are the system firmware updates mandatory? I read that users are first notified and then forced to take the update even if you Disable Automatic System Updates.
Is that true? I wish to stay with the old firmware because people have posted that the new firmware eliminates any chance of using a USA GSM sim on a Boost 1766.
Thanks.

Use caution going with a custom ROM on this device, especially with a mvno. You may score far more hurt than benefit. Also consider what you are trying to accomplished going with custom ROMs given the clean stability of Moto stock ROMs. Toss in Xposed framework and a few modules like Gravitybox for full control/customization.
OTA updates can not be processed with a custom recovery (one of several prerequisites that your device no longer meets). You may get notified but the update won't install; you'll be dumped into TWRP. You can easily disable the update engine and corresponding notifications on a rooted device.

Galaxy J5 (2017) stuck in recovrey mode.

Hi. During the update to Android 10 the phone turned off and after switching on it goes into recovery mode.
The phone is not mine and this description was provided to me by the owner of the phone. I was unable to see the phone directly because of the quarantine, so as a first solution I thought about a restore via odin. Has anyone had this problem? And is there a less drastic way than Odin to solve? Because the owner has some data that he would prefer not to lose.

How did you get android 10 on j530f?
I get the same messages when I enter recovery but I'm able to get out. You could use odin to reflash the firmware but keep all the data.
You won't be able to do a thing with Odin if the device doesn't have an unlocked bootloader and USB debugging enabled which I doubt it has seeing as it's a stock update that was attempted.
What happens to the device once plugged into a PC? Is the data corrupt or is the device recognized and files can be seen?
I have the same problem with almost the same recovery messsges. It also says dm verity failed. Odin and samsung 300k tool both dont work.

Hi,
can you give some details what has happened?
I think you have to install TWRP. Otherwise you have no chance to debug anything...

I don't know how the phone has Android 10, as I said "The phone is not mine and this description was provided to me by the owner of the phone", sorry.

Not even to flash a stock firmware? It seems strange to me, in the past I have often used odin on my S2 also for the stock ROM.
The device always reboot in recovery, I don't think the PC can see it.

Hi, the details were given to me by another person, the only thing that I (and this person knows) is that the phone during an update has turned off and reboots in the attached image window.
Thanks for the tips, I will report it to the person concerned, hoping that he can install the twrp.

Put the j5ylte update onto sd card.
Get the update from updato or sammobile or somewhere.
Then reboot stock recovery and apply update from sd card. Or sideload it using adb on a computer. Not very complicated at all
Install the stock rom like i described here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j5/help/to-stock-rom-t4099857
