Fingerprint sensor gestures not working? - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

I jumped on the bandwagon of the prime day PH-1 and picked one up. I ran through all of the updates and turned on the fingerprint sensor gestures but they aren't working. fingerprint for unlock works just fine though. I've rebooted several times and done a hard reset to no avail. Am I out of luck here?
Thanks

If you updated to Android Pie you have to enable gestures. Burried all the way in the system tab at the bottom of settings.

What do they do? I find the sensor is not in a good place for gestures.
I love the apps oneplus gestures and hide nav bar though. Gives same gestures as op6 and hides nav bar for full screen.
Shame they are not built in along with double tap to wake and skip lock screen after face unlock.

On the Essential its just to pull down the notification shade.

I was just about to start searching for this feature. Coming from the Pixel 2 XL I realized I didn't really need it but just wanted to have it lol. This phone is really nice too bad there won't be a second one

Fingerprint reader to unlock & display notifications

I'm on the latest RR, 5.3.8. Finger print function works, but there's no addition settings available to do other things once the phone is unlocked (gravitybox added some additional functionality, but no xposed in 7).
I've tried several apps that let you configure additional functions to the finger print once unlocked. The entry i'm using is 'toggle notifications'. This works, but seems to add significant lag when unlocking the phone, requiring at least 2 taps to unlock.
Any thoughts or suggestions for achieving this? Ideally it'd be nice to do a slow double tap - first to unlock, second to toggle the notification without having to move my finger from the back to the front.
hello try to download the NExt lockscreen in Play store..work wonders for me...
Is this app similar to widget locker from years past?
I don't know if I want a full blown lock screen replacement. When I did have widgetlocker instsalled, i used the same apps as were on the home screen. Layout was very similar. Really all I want to do is use the fingerprint reader as another button. It's far more convenient to tap it once unlocked than to move fingers to the front of the phone to swipe the status bar down.

Question about gestures

Hi guys,
I have a Pixel 3 and really like One Plus gestures as you can use the phone without nav bar and get more screen state.
I have been trying some apps but I have a question and would like to know if it is the stock behavior.
Apps I have been trying are:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivianuu.oneplusgestures
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xda.nobar
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fb.fluid&hl=en_US
I think they all work fine, but they all have a "activation area" which is just a bar (around 60px height) in the botton of the screen, where the gestures are detected.
But I cannot click anything under that area, I mean if there is something "under" that small area I have to swipe so it goes up and I can click it.
Is that behavior normal in the one plus? I dont think so.
Best regards
I just checked on the native gesture behavior and as far as I can tell, there is no reserved activation area for the OP6T gestures and anything around the bottom-most part of the screen can still be tapped. Each requires the swipe to actually activate.

pie and screen rotation lock

Anyone know how/if Pie's screen rotation lock works with OP5? It is supposed to put an additional icon in the navbar, but since the OP5 already has a hardware navbar is there something that can be done short of enabling the soft navbar (which is dumb and redundant)
I to have been trying to figure this out. Unfortunately it seems like nobody has figured out how to do this with any device with hardware button's without using the soft navbar.
I have only used the screen rotation lock/unlock via the quick tiles. I have the fast pull down feature so its just a swipe from the top and tapping on the icon.

Two button Pie Gesture navbar for G7??

I've come from an AOSP rom and the only thing that really annoys me about this handset is that motorola took away the ability to activate the stock Pie two button navigation feature in Gestures and replaced it with Moto Actions.
Does anyone know of a way of getting this back? I have looked at other pill options, but can't find anything that is the same. I'm on a rooted device.
To be honest,.after about 3-4 hours after purchasing I got use to the Moto Launcher apk pill. Gestures are taking a little time getting use too...
The Pix3lify module in Magisk will add it. That's what I use and it works great with no issues.

Third party launchers and pixel 4/4xl gestures

I read several days ago about how the pixel 4/4xl already allows third party launchers to use the native gestures.
I also read that you need to have gestures enabled in order to utilize the new google assistant.
My question is has anyone that has received their new pixel used nova launcher (my all-time fave), enabled native gestures and was able to utilize the new google assistant?
My new 4xl is on a truck for delivery today and I'm pretty excited.
I'm coming from the 3xl so I know it's not a huge upgrade, but I think there's enough to make me happy with the decision.
TIA
I received my Pixel 4 on Tuesday and can confirm that Nova Launcher works wonderfully with Gesture Navigation / Control... as well as Nova's Google Now Companion & Sesame Shortcuts. I came from the Pixel 3 and absolutely LOVE the 4. It does still have dual stereo speakers, with one firing at the bottom / side but it's not noticeable when watching or listening to media.
Battery life is meh for now, so I turned off a few things to help. Motion Sense is wonky for me but Face Unlock is super nice. I just single tap my screen and vuala! Unlocked if I'm looking at it. Also noted is to find and set the active screen setting where it doesn't dim all the damn time if you're looking at it.

Thanks for the quick reply but does the new google assistant, that's exclusive to the pixel 4/4xl, work together with nova launcher?
TIA

Sure does, of you have Gesture Navigation / Controls active.

That's great news.
Thanks so much for the quick reply.
No matter how hard I try, and I've tried many different launchers over the years, I can' stay away from Nova.
It just fits the way I use my phone perfectly.
Thanks again and enjoy your new toy. I should have mine by early this afternoon.

Thanks.
I know I did a duplicate post in the 4 and 4xl forums and appreciate the quick responses.
This is great news and I had not seen this particular question asked anywhere.
Good luck to all!

How were you able to get this working? My nova launcher says gestures aren't supported and I can't find a setting for my Home app. Pixel 4XL

Sorry for the slow reply, been working a LOT lately. I didn't do anything special to get it working. I'm using Nova Launcher, which said gestures aren't supported as well, but then I enabled it in the system settings, Gestures, System Navigation, Gesture Navigation. I also had to manually set Nova as my Home Screen in system settings, Apps & Notifications, Advanced, Default Apps, Home App. Once that was set in there, boom, done, working... and lemme tell you, after about 10 minutes of fiddling with it and adjusting... it's great! Swipe from left side of any screen = "back" button... swipe up is Home, swipe up and hold a brief moment is running apps, swipe left or right will switch between open apps quickly, swipe up from either corner from home screen and it opens Assistant... good stuff. Not sure if there's more, but that's what I know.
