Extremely Slow USB Speed? - HTC U Ultra Questions & Answers

Have you been able to achieve USB Transfer speeds worthy of USB 3.1?
3.1 is at least up to 500GB/s so the 5GB/s I can achieve are quite surprising...
(LeeDroid, Android 8.0)
Thanks for helping me find out what the problem is

[Q] WiFi Tether speeds slooow

OK, so, as I sit and type this, I'm on my ASUS Transformer tethered to my Epic...and I'm getting half the speed I get on my phone. My phone is sitting at around 2.2 mb connection and my tablet is getting around 1 mb.
Is there a way to get better speed out of this set up? It seems just as slow on my laptop, so I don't think it's the tablet.
Also, does anyone know if there's a way that I can USB tether my Android phone to my Android tablet? That would be amazing...USB speed from my phone seems nice and fast.
Thanks!!!
Have you tried one of the later builds of this? I'm getting crash-free full 4g speeds, something I didn't get in earlier builds.

[Q] usb host

Is there any way to have the usb host functionality on our beloved atrix with a custom rom? i read that ics will have it, is it true?
Have a Mutimedia dock (the more expensive one) or a webtop? See the USB ports? Atrix supports USB OTG as standard with docks BUT wothout a gock, you need a powered OTG cable

ICS is suppose to have the usb host functionality. I watched the keynote and they hooked the SGN up to a treadmill and played a game lol.

USB type c on Nexus 6P

Will it be USB 3.1 or like on One Plus Two?
What do you think?
I think that because Google is behind some of the tech choices (like all Nexus devices,) it will be USB 3.1. The Nexus devices have always been a way for Google to show what they think the next generation of Android phones should include.
USB C is a fantastic connector and is much better than the Micro B connector we have all gotten used to, but just switching the connector hopefully won't be good enough for Google. They'd be stupid not to take advantage of the newest USB standards and everything that comes with it.
So, my bet is on the 6P having USB 3.1.
i believe that the new nexus' will have the type c.. since marshmallow will support it .. and this is from google themselves

all of the leaks pretty much confirm USB C as a thing on the 6P and 5X. Im just hoping they are able to implement fast charging through them
In the leaked slides Google said it will have faster data transfer with USB Type-C so that implies its USB 3.1 but we will know for sure tomorrow
I'm about 99% sure it's just USB 2.0 Type C.
All of the accessory cables on google's store page are USB 2.0.
Sucks, but oh well I guess :/
Edit: AndroidPolice confirmed USB3 not USB2!!!
WOOHOO!!

USB 3.0

What's the deal w/ usb 3.0? Is it disabled? Can it be reenabled?
The board, supports it, and it seems counter productive to put a usb 2.0 in such fresh HW.

So I've read, its because usb3 takes up more battery

It sounds like that could be an issue. Also, USB 3.0 is so fast that it can outpace a lot of the flash memory in phones. So there would have to be faster memory in the phone to handle it and that raises costs.
I'm sure it's a cost issue in the end. And not enough people know about it or care. They may also not have computers with USB 3.0 connectors to appreciate the difference. So the group of people this benefits shrinks and shrinks, while the cost per phone remains the same.
Also, most companies and especially Google are trying to push people into the cloud, not into phone storage. All the better to track you with for advertising.
I'm sure eventually it or something else faster will be the standard. It is disappointing how long it's taking though. And it does seem dumb to put in a larger USB type C port (supposedly one of the downsides of USB 3.0), but not take advantage of it. I definitely get tired of how slow USB 2.0 is when backing up my phone to my computer.
USB 3.0 on type C doesn't support fast charging, I am 99% sure this was brought up in the reditt AMA and has been discussed on this board too.
Everyone is so up in arms over it not being 3.0, but most people don't even know the benefits of it, if you plan to transfer hundreds of gigs of data from your phone to your PC on a weekly basis, then I guess you need it, otherwise the main purpose of the port is to charge your phone, I'd rather have fast charging 2.0 than regular charging 3.0

In fact just 6 threads down is the original USB type C discussion thread.

Wired Ethernet Speeds

Just thought I'd share the results of a little experimenting I did...
So I'm lucky enough to have a symmetrical gigabit internet connection at home. Here is the results of plugging in a USB-C to Ethernet adapter into my Pixel 2 XL. (This did not work on the first gen XL for me).
As you can see the phone does very well in a speed test. The same speeds I get on my $1,500 gaming rig.
This is amazing!
But then, you don't need a gaming rig to reach the max speed in gigabit benchmarks. The 200$ low-end Celeron laptops achieve literally the same.

You don't mind sharing which adapter you used? Would like to try this. Thank you!

The exact one seems to be unavailable: Belinda USB-C to Ethernet Adapter for USB Type-C Devices Including the new MacBook, ChromeBook Pixel and More (Silver Aluminum) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018XV6JI4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_N6fbAbX0N9261
I'm sure any other one would work fine as long as it's rated gigabit.

I got the adapter but when I plugged it in to my phone it didn't work. Is there anything I need to do on my phone to get it to recognize the Ethernet?
Try turning off WiFi or use airplane mode

Hi, have you tried lately? I just got the Plugable USBC-E1000, and while on my Razer Blade Stealth on Windows 10 I'm getting 952 Mbps down and 696 Mbps up on a 1Gb internet connection, on my Pixel 2 XL I'm only getting about max 160 Mbps down and up like 130 Mbps. Tried multiple times, different servers and it's always the same. I'm on stock 8.1 January build.

Maybe it's still using Wi-Fi. Try turning on airplane mode then plugging in your adapter. It may take some time to recognize the Ethernet. You will see an icon in the notification bar when it does that looks like this: <--->

Ah yeah, I did all that. WiFi actually is limited by the 2x2 AC router, it gives me a bit more than 300 Mbps down. Just wanted to know if you could confirm 900+ Mbps on the January build, cause I might need to return this adapter if there's another one (presumably with another chipset) that works at actual Gb speeds.
But also, I've never gotten anything resembling USB 3 speeds through this port either, so it could be the phone or Android.

I've used it recently and was in the mid 900s on both up and down. I'd guess it's the adapter.
