If that’s true, unless an Xperia play 2 comes out, I won’t buy a Sony phone again.
z3 will get Nougat,since even Z got it's Lollipop 5.1 updates

Wtf the Z3 gets dev preview but doesn't get official update, that is the bigger bulls*it ever
Hold your [email protected], people...
I think it's not a final word from them... remember that original Xperia Z received the updates being 2 years old. Just relax and wait, maybe they'll change their mind.
Sent from my Xperia Z3 Compact using XDA-Developers mobile app
I don't see it having developer builds and not the final one
What option do we have for longtime support for Z3 Compact? There is no official Cyanogen mod support either?
This sucks. Just bought another z3 because I smashed the screen on my last one. Still my all time fave Android phone.
i used sonymobile 3 product
play no upgrade to 4
SP no upgrade to 4.4
and last z3c no upgrade to 7 due to use cpu 32 bit
i think next mobile is Nexus Sailfish
but i waiting see xperia XR if it has speed shutter
may be buy sony again hahahaha

Regarding Nougat Android 7.0 update
We know that you all hoped for a N release and we really wanted to give you one but instead we have to tell you that we won't be able to.
The reasons are both technical and legal. If you followed the N Developer Preview program you know that we didn't release the final DP5. That program ran into some unforeseen limitations (1) that could not be resolved.
This is the reason that both concept and official won't be upgraded to Android N (2).

must sux for the sony devs. looks like they tried to pull it off but execs came and said no.
Please read again the link, it says and i quote,
"We’ve been working hard to bring this major update to as many of our devices as possible, as quickly as we can. We’re really excited about the new Sony features & functionality and the improvements we’ve made to the user experience – and we’ll be sharing more soon… so stay tuned to the blog and @SonyMobileNews for all the latest news on timings and features."

Seems that Google removed the support for Snapdragon 800/801 from the Kernel, that's what they call unforeseen limitations (the Nexus 5, Snapdragon 800 don't get the update either).
Such an unpopular decision for a very popular device, like z3(c).

Well.... Z3 and Z3 Compact doesn't use any X86 chipset, it uses a arm-based chipset (Snapdragon 801 namely), and the reason Sony can't bring the upgrade to the Z3 and Z3 Compact is becuase Google removed support for the Snapdragon 801.
I had asked Motorola if z play will receive Android 7.1.1
and got a positive reply!
Here's the chat with Motorola:
T Gowthami: Hi, my name is T Gowthami. How may I help you?
Yash Goyal: can you tell me which motorola devices are currently running Android 7.1.1
T Gowthami: I would like to inform you that currently Moto G4 plus device running with 7.1.1 .
Yash Goyal: Why moto z and z play are not getting 7.1.1.
T Gowthami: The device will get but I am not sure about the date.
T Gowthami: Is there any thing else may I assist you with?
Yash Goyal: Z play will get 7.1.1?
Yash Goyal: ?
T Gowthami: Yes, It will get but I am not sure about the date.

Awesome! This is good news!! my second day with the device, I am really satisfied with it! And Motorola seems to be doing moderately frequent updates!
It's strange, the budget phone got 7.1.1 before us o.o

Those are likely to be the same sites that said with absolutely certainty the s8 will come with 8 gigabytes of ram, a 45MegaPixel Camera, and the ability to phase through matter.
I remember there were several sites that stated the Samsung note pro had received (touchwiz) marshmallow about a year ago.. Which is just totally false.
If we're still on 7.0 and Lenovo is ruining the show, I find that a little hard to believe considering I haven't even seen any lineage 15 for devices like the oneplus 3, pixel, or nexus 6p yet..
But who knows! I could, and would be happy to be proven wrong!

It's no surprise to me, even the old Moto X got Nougat a few months back. It'd say we'll get a good 3 years of major updates and even thereafter the devs here are awesome and will make the impossible possible. It's always good choosing a Moto phone.

Information for z play 7.1.1 is absolutely correct.
I had confirmed that news in Lenovo forums with Motp xpert

i've had it enough with the incompetence of these "motorola support agents", really the same guy you talked to now saying the 7.1.1 is being rolled out for the g4 plus, and he doesn't even know about the march update being rolled out in Brazil

They don't know the future. Nougat was announced for January. I'm glad they don't do everything they promise, but stop or delay release if problems arise. They may decide to distribute 8 instead of 7.1.1, if that update is easier to implement. Although they may currently plan to distribute 7.1.1. It does not matter what they plan on detail. Don't ask these questions. They make no sense. You may ask "are you planning to distribute major updates to Moto Z Play?" and the answer is yes. Anything else may be honest, but prove wrong at a later time.

Guys in forums can give BS answers too.
While I suspect we probably will get 7.1.1, relying on info from manufacturer forums and chats as definite is likely to leave you disappointed some day. Press release from Lenovo is about the only thing you can 'probably' rely on - but even Moto left US Moto E 2 behind after doing that.
Moto Support is there to give you support, not confirm or deny the existence of updates, they're just trying to do their job. If you've ever worked in any kind of customer support/service situation you'd know not to bother people with meaningless requests.
Such good news!!!! Although I have 7.0, I have only the update of January 1, I have no security patch, software channel retgb
Any news? Is Android 7.1.2 on the way to the Moto Z Play? Would be great.

So, does anyone have any news on when we'll be getting the update? Sony's website says, for the XA1 Ultra, that it's coming soon; that's it. Apart from that, I've had that the update was supposed to possibly roll out in January/February - but, it's now, March 1. I haven't even received last month's security update yet.
Hi
I've Xperia XA1.
Somebody says it will roll out with Android 8.1 in April for both (ultra and normal), but nothing is sure. (Sadly) we've only to wait...
The only thing I hope is to have all the features there are on other Xperias, like XZ (so better camera app and performance and battery improvements), not only a new UI.

Myself included, Faby, but if you look in the Questions/Answers section I have posted an issue with my phone. I hope it's a software issue only and that it'll be fixed with Android 8.0 or 8.1. I can't stand having horrible charging problems and a weird phone boot sequence.

Great (and official!) News! Thanks!
It's released today.
Just received and installed the 8.0 update on my G3223. Looks good so far, no issues I've noticed but I'm pretty tired and haven't really poked around in it much.
I do like the Oreo home nav circle icon better . :cyclops:
oreo update
G3212 dual and G3223 ,already received the update, its Oreo 8.0...European version G3221 will need to wait few days more ,the first countries that will receive update will be Turkey,Central Europe and United Kingdom on O2 network, anyway Sony will release the update for all devices till end of month ,the next update android 8.1 will be released this summer, and unfortunately will be the last update for XA1 XA1Ultra and XA1 plus ..The company will focus on new devices updates..
Do you guys think that the xperia x compact will get the update to Android P?
No. Z5 compact didn't get oreo, so X compact will not get P. Maybe we will get 8.1.

Probaly yes. Sony’s official Android upgrade policy, it that premium devices are supported for two years after the device has launched. X compact will complete two years in the end of this year, so probaly yes!

And how can you explain that Z5C, released in late Sept. 2015, didn't get oreo, released in Aug. 2017? Support means security updates and not new Android versions.

Well, first of all, Sony did not have a clear policy of commitment to update the software for a certain period, and decided to adopt two years, endorsing the line of updates made by Google.
In addition, Sandar Pichai, CEO's Google, during Pixel 2's presentation on October 4 last year, has ensured that it will take the necessary steps for manufacturers to make updates for the same period, encouraging frequent updates to the Android system, which is largely not the case yet.
About Z5 and the Z5 compact, I can not say specifically. For example, the Z3 compact did not receive the Android Nougat because of a technical issue related to some unforeseen limitations of the platform that did not allow updating. These include the need for updated devices to have graphics that support Vulkan and OpenGL ES 3.1. Thus, devices running Adreno 3XX graphics - present on Snapdragon 800 and Snapdragon 801 - can not be upgraded, since processors only support OpenGL ES 3.0. As I said earlier, Google has committed to ensure that these contingencies will be reduced within two years period. Thus, it is likely, however, not certain that Sony will be authorized to upgrade its devices to Android P, and following the internal policy of the company to carry out the updates.
So, let's hope
OK, you are obviously better informed than me. So let's see...
also it's worth mentioning that Sony was not very kind to z5 series in terms of upgrading and X series were much better, however let's not forget that X compact has the same processor as the X so it's either they update both these phones to P or they update neither of them because X was released 6 months before Xc (if Im not mistaken) so the support would be over soon if not already...
They did update the Xperia Z to lollipop 5.1, almost 2 and a half years after it was launched, so maybe the X will get Android P as well; then again, 5.1 wasn't a huge update from 5.0, so, the probability is quite low that either the X Compact or the X will get the update.
Let's hope there won't be a performance dip if we do get the update tho.
I don't think so.
I can't be sure, it's more a sensation.
Maybe we'll get 8.1.
Or worse, left to "patched" 8.0.
I just got pushed an update from big red and it's not q. We'll be lucky to get it. I have locked bootloader's
Only upped the security patch to January
