My MyTouch 3G Slide has a couple defects. The bezel or plastic housing that surrounds the upper portion of the device surrounding the screen has gaps in it around the seam that allows dust or any small particulate to enter under the screen. I have looked at several of the devices and they all have it to one degree or another. For instance, on my Slide I have 3 of these holes one of which has allowed a grain of sand under my screen. My wife's Slide has 4 of these holes or gaps and they are substantial on her phone. One XDA member has had this happen in the same spot that both my wife and my Slides are collecting dust.
While the light leaks or gaps in the bezel are a problem (for me) I think the real problem lies in the adhesive strip that connects the digitizer to the LCD screen. The way the digitizer is adhered to the LCD there shouldn't be any way for dust to have gotten in between the two pieces of hardware. I'd like to believe that it was just my particular phone but my wife's phone is having the exact same issue.
The phone really is phenomenal and I'm sure it was just a fluke that I've had issues (hoping so). Just keep an eye out for any issues similar to what I've mentioned above. I have really gone back and forth with this and I am definitely disappointed with having an issue(s) right out of the gate. My wife really likes the phone and after giving it some thought I like it as well ... a lot. I will return and reorder another couple Slides because this device is that awesome. Thanks for your thoughts/contributions to the thread.
I've tried to get some photos of the gaps but they are small and hard to photograph. To inspect your device: Go into a dark area and pull up your contacts, messaging app or a white web page in the browser with full screen brightness and inspect the seam of the plastic housing surrounding the touch screen on the top half of the slide. The gaps are almost like rectangular notches just below/above the corners of the screen in the seam. My theory is that these are artifacts from the plastic molding process that were exacerbated by poor/hasty assembly. I am definitely returning my Slides.
Its all true. After reading, and seeing the image posted by another member here, I checked my phone. I went into a dark room, opened up a site that has pretty much a white page, and I too noticed a gap at the bottom right hand corner of my screen. As of right now no dust/dirt has shown up under my screen, but what's to say that it won't later on. Heck, screw dirt. What if moisture finds its way in, and starts to fog up the screen from within? This could be a major problem later on down the road.
whew... just checked mine, noticed nothing like that, thank goodness.

Strange, I've confirmed with everyone I know with a Slide (only black and white thus far) and everyone is seeing the same thing. What color Slide did you get? I wonder if the red Slide is manufactured differently? Anyway, that is awesome because I think the phone is GREAT other than the small gaps in the bezel.
I will say I took some compressed air and attempted to move the artifact under my screen just to see if air was moving through those gaps. The grain of sand or whatever it is did not budge. I'm just not sure what to think. I hate the idea of returning this phone ...
Mine is like that. Not that i care much as im returning it soon. But it does have gaps and light leakage all over the bottom of the screen, near the buttons.
i just check my and maybe i cant see it but i havent found anything... i have a red one
Re: My MT3G Slides (and others) Have A Defective Touch Screen Bezel
Initialy checked mine as well, black. I don't appear to have this problem either.
I will inspect further to verify.

The only one I have is at the very bottom of the buttons, which might even just be the light hitting the glass at a specific angle. Other than that, no light leaks/cracks/blocks/whatever you call them on my screen area. Red Espresso.
I just swapped my white MTS for a Black one with no signs of cracks or light showing threw. TMO rep did not know of this problem and said he would send out an e-mail to other reps to let them know.
My day is now ruined
Yep, both bottom sides, right at the corners, above the buttons. I will not return it though, think instead a lil duct tape and some JB weld will do (seriously, a little touch of black silicon for a good seal, still sucks though). Screen cover seems to be blocking any dirt at the moment.
woow good looking out.. i was wondering how a spec of dust got to my screen. im planning on putting a piece of scotch tape over those regions (i have a red slide btw).
I have a red one and didn't see any leaks bottom or top. Thank goodness!

I hear you; I've been trying to find a way to keep the bezel sealed until I can get a case/cover for the phone. I literally have one tiny grain of sand at the bottom left hand corner of my screen. I so don't want to return the phone; I'm in love with the thing.
Glad to hear some of you have a better seal on the bezel.
I have some small light leak on the bottom, not an issue yet and I'm still within my 14 days so I might stop by the t mobile store tomorrow and try to get a replacement.
1. slight curved gaps at the corner edge where the top of the plastic curves down to turn into the sides. check
2. vertical rectangular light leak above home and genius keys. check
3. these lights only light up when hard keys are lit..when screen first lights up...light leaks are not there...once keys light up, light in the gaps light up. doesnt this mean the screen is sealed and there is no leak from the screen itself?
4. however, if you have a creaky top plastic housing, the seam running along the edge of the white plastic and grey plastic is not flush...on my 1st slide, i could see the screen light up in these 'cracks' of the seam...could debris get into screen this way then?
5. for those with debris already at lower left part of screen: pls do me a favor:
hold phone (sideways with back cover facing the ground) at just below eye level and try to see that left corner that is underneath the painted black surround of the screen..do you see white light when the screen is lit? if you look along the 'inside' edges along the rest of the phone, you will see that there should not be white light emitting out and should have a 'clean' look...there should basically be a solid black border...perhaps, if you guys have this white lighting show through, that could mean a separation of the screen somehow? btw, you do not have to be in a dark room to see this light along the inside edge....it is very noticable as the light comes thru where i think there should be no light. ps: when looking at the phone screen normally (ie from top down), screen looks perfect and this issue doesnt affect actual picture on screen.
my first slide had the light leaks but i didnt think anything of them as i thought they were related to the buttons only...but the issue i had spoke of in #5 above, i had this light coming thru along the whole edge of the bottom of the screen plus creaky top plastic housing.
I have dust under the entire screen of 2 Slides (Espresso), I couldn't notice it indoors but it is glaringly apparent when in the sun. The phones go back tomorrow. I've had my G1 for a year and a half with not a single spec of dust under the screen. I've had 2 MT3G Slides (Espresso) for 6 days and dust is under both screens; these devices are very cheaply made. Phone is lightning fast, screen size is great, physical keyboard is great, UI has some excellent features you can find nowhere else ... too bad I won't be keeping them. Been nice knowing you guys.
Seriously everyone be lucky that this is the only problem that people are having with this phone. You want to talk about shoddy build quality on first run devices, lets not even mention what the original PSP was like. If all that's wrong is that a few people have a bad bezel, then I'd say you made out well with the phone. NJAZ, just exchange them and have the employee test them at the store before you walk out with it, problem solved.

Well I have to send them back as I ordered them online. 2 phones plus about 5 other people I know with these phones have dust blowing in under the defective bezel. It's unacceptable. Like I care about a PSP. What the hell does a PSP have to do with this? You didn't even comment on your phone having the light leaks/gaps or not. What is your point? You think folks should settle for inferior builds of an expensive phone? You can ignore whatever you'd like. I will wait for a better phone.
Wanted to add to my previous post about mine not having the leak... I have the red one.
If you have any questions or problems with your note ask in this forum, I will be able to help or we help each other!
Leather Flip-wallet case damaged my screen
Hello everyone,
I have a problem with my phone's screen. I have been using the Samsung authentic leather flip-wallet case (without S-window) for about 3 months before I realised it affected my screen.
On the inside of the door which touches the screen, there is a dent and a slot for a business card. This dent has sort of stained my screen. Just to make it clear I have never used the slot for any cards or anything.
The 'stain' is only noticeable when the phone gets smudged naturally because by using it. When I clean the screen the problem is not visible at all. I reported this to Samsung over live chat in Greece and also in Cyprus (where I live) and they said they never had anything like this on records.
It is not a matter of cleaning the screen properly because believe me I tried everything! My guess is that the frequent opening/closing of the case' door has somehow worn the glass on a molecular level causing the stain to show when grease gets trapped in the worn parts of the screen.
I attach a picture of my phone with the problem being visible, a picture with the screen clean and problem not visible and also a picture of the case I was using.
The reason of my post is to firstly warn everyone about this potential issue with the flip-wallet case and secondly to have the community's comments.
Thanks.

Does anyone know where the proximity sensor on the Nexus 6p is located? I just received a tempered glass screen protector and just wanted to make sure it is not blocking it and cause problems.

I was wondering this same thing - this screen protector would seem to indicate a positioning of just under the right side of the top speaker, but I can't seem to see anything in product images...
Edit: I don't have one in person (yet!), but in this image, if you super zoom in on the right side of the top speaker, you can almost make out a sort of circular shape in the background of the speaker cutout....I wonder if that could be something??
Not trying to be a smart @$$, but what if you call your voicemail and hold the phone normal and wave your hand slowly right to left across the top until it blacks out. That'll give you a good starting point to find it...
It is below the right side of the speaker as your link indicates. This one "Supershieldz Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Huawei (Google) Nexus 6P - Retail Packaging" (I can't post links yet) on amazon shows a cutout that goes further down the phone, which matches what I see on my phone better.
I bought a tru sheild one off amazon, can't post link.. because it appears its no longer on there.. But my screen goes black as soon as I place a call, and won't come back until the call is over.. which totally sucks.. I have it set up so I can use the power button to end the call... I'm going on vacation, so I have to deal with that until I can buy one that doesn't cover the sensor.
My OnePlus 2 is just 3 days old and iI'm noticing some black spots around the silver ring that is around the finger print sensor. Is anyone else facing this issue? I searched around and found people in the OnePlus forums having the same issue. Is there any point in returning the device or will all devices eventually have the same wear?
I actually noticed some on mine as well before, but I just took a cotton buds with rubbing alcohol, and cleaned it. To my surprise, it worked.
Thanks for the above reply, but this was not dirt. The issue has been resolved, (I got a replacement) if anyone has the same problem try to exchange the phone because its a batch defect.
Correct me but you did replace the phone because the color of border from fingerprint sensor was changing? [emoji33] [emoji33] [emoji33]

The color was not changing, the chrome lining had worn off so it was really noticeable wear. After just 2 days of getting the phone it seemed unacceptable for it to wear so fast. My replacement is perfect and has no signs of wear.
Can you see some signs of corrosion on your replaced device? I'm facing the same problem, I will go to service center soon for replacement. How much time they took for replacement?
The chrome lining(if you call it so) has generated some spots on it. My OPT didn't even fall down. It looks disgusting.
Mine looks like crap too, but my home button is 100% broken so the lining is the least of my problems, really. Lol
Same here. The lining has partially worn off after around two months. But the button and fingerprint sensor work fine so I will live with it.
Chrome? Hmmm mine is black. But that was my only gripe about the OnePlus one. My metal rim around the phone started falling. If that was metal?
For anyone who worries about scratching their shiny new phone and applies a screen protector then take note that in doing so that the motion Gestures will stop working.
I applied a glass screen protector to my phone tonight and although it does not cover the section where the cameras and soli chip are located, after I did the motion Gestures stopped working and the detection for face unlock was hit and miss.
Once I removed the screen protector it all started working again. Not sure if a plastic protector might work better.
If anyone has any ideas or experience please share.
Mind divulging what brand screen protector you used? I grabbed a cheap Pleson 3-Pack on Amazon this week to use until my IntelliGlass one arrives in November. Curious to see if it causes the same issue.

I just put a glass MP-Mall off Amazon on mine. It's got a gap on the top with two horns.
Everybody has been hating on the accuracy of the gestures, but it's been pretty reliable for me.
After I put the screen protector on I'm pretty sure it affected it. It doesn't respond as well, but then I question whether I waved correctly or not. [emoji2357].

The one I bought from Amazon is branded OMOTION. Definitely the protector because I removed it last night and motion sense started to work again. I put on another this morning and it's stopped working. I have ordered another brand from Amazon to test.
If anyone finds one which works please let me know.
Got my Pixel 4 a few hours ago. I installed a PLESON tempered glass screen protector before I even turned the thing on. It does not cover the entirety of the glass, as expected, because of the curved edges.
Face Unlock works well, and reaching for the phone is detected properly when the ambient display is on. The only thing I've found to not work 100% reliably so far are the gestures for skipping music tracks. First of all, the app has to support it. So the gestures straight up don't work in Shuttle Music Player (my personal favorite) but will work with Google Play Music. Moving your hand from left to right is supposed to skip to the next song while the reverse motion is supposed to restart the song and/or go back to the previous song. I've found that when doing these gestures, only the right to left motion (restarting / going to the previous song) works, whereas skipping the track does not. Additionally, you can see towards the top of the screen, underneath the earpiece, that a bar will light up and it follows the movement of your hand.
So the PLESON screen protector will work for now, but I have an Intelliglass on the way, which should hopefully perform properly.
I have not heard of Intelliglass protectors before, just googled and found that and also intelliarmour. Both seem to cover the whole phone so I assume for the Pixel 4 it will also cover the soli chip. Will be interesting to hear how you get on. I suspect it may stop it working. I have found my protector overlaps the screen and covers about 3mm of the notch, I assume that is what is causing the motion sense to not work. With no protector it works fine.

Sorry, gonna trim this a bit. But only for one reason and that's the screen protector debate. I always used those things until I didn't. I would drop the phone and they would shatter and I was .. omg thank goodness for the screen protector. And then I thought hmm.. let me see. Did a little research and the reviews were mixed. Until I dropped the device without one and .. nothing. No cracks no glass break no nothin'. I never got another one and I've never broken a screen with a drop either. Now don't jinx me lol but I don't think they do a thing. I did get a fabric case for my P3 and 3a and they work well with minor obstructions.
I've not ordered the $40 fabric for the P4 yet but I probably will at some point. I like to get the feel of the device before I do that and I try to be uber careful until that time. But just a few quick thoughts that don't mean much other than my own.

Yeah, I've considered rocking my phone without a protector in the past, especially because I'm usually very careful with my phones, but there have been times where my phone my phone was knocked out of my hand by some idiot or something and I just like the added protection (if there is any). At the very least when I go to sell the phone the original screen is in nearly pristine condition.
As far as cases go, I really enjoyed the Spigen Thin Fit I had on my G7 so I'll be picking one of those up as soon as it's released in white. In the mean time, I snagged a Spigen Liquid Crystal just for basic protection. Although, the idea of rocking it naked is tempting. It feels very nice in my hands.
I also have the OMOTON brand from Amazon and the face unlock works ok, however the gestures to skip songs in Spotify rarely work. I will try to remove the protector later and see if that for sure is the issue.
I discovered that if I do the gestures with a phone off to the side it's not very repeatable but when I have the phone directly in front of me it works most of the time with the screen protector still on. I am thinking the screen protector prevents it from working off to the side as well. My wife just got a pixel 4XL as well and it works off to the side.
it would be nice to have some protection on the rear square that the camera's sit behind...i'm not sure how it would affect the camera performance, but once you get a little scratch on that surface, you'll have a camera that struggles to pull focus on close objects.. thoughts?
Motion Sense hardly works without a screen protector. Turn it off to save the paltry battery life, and protect your screen
