New OnePlus 2, chrome lining around the finger print sensor fading? - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My OnePlus 2 is just 3 days old and iI'm noticing some black spots around the silver ring that is around the finger print sensor. Is anyone else facing this issue? I searched around and found people in the OnePlus forums having the same issue. Is there any point in returning the device or will all devices eventually have the same wear?

I actually noticed some on mine as well before, but I just took a cotton buds with rubbing alcohol, and cleaned it. To my surprise, it worked.

Thanks for the above reply, but this was not dirt. The issue has been resolved, (I got a replacement) if anyone has the same problem try to exchange the phone because its a batch defect.

Correct me but you did replace the phone because the color of border from fingerprint sensor was changing? [emoji33] [emoji33] [emoji33]

The color was not changing, the chrome lining had worn off so it was really noticeable wear. After just 2 days of getting the phone it seemed unacceptable for it to wear so fast. My replacement is perfect and has no signs of wear.

Can you see some signs of corrosion on your replaced device? I'm facing the same problem, I will go to service center soon for replacement. How much time they took for replacement?

The chrome lining(if you call it so) has generated some spots on it. My OPT didn't even fall down. It looks disgusting.

Mine looks like crap too, but my home button is 100% broken so the lining is the least of my problems, really. Lol

Same here. The lining has partially worn off after around two months. But the button and fingerprint sensor work fine so I will live with it.

Chrome? Hmmm mine is black. But that was my only gripe about the OnePlus one. My metal rim around the phone started falling. If that was metal?

[Q] The dreaded dust under screen issue..

...strikes again, this time on the A500.
I just noticed two specs of dust under the glass on the lower left and right corners of my Tab (on the side the dock connector resides).
Thankfully the black Android status bar hides them under normal conditions...
Anyone else noticed dust under their screen or am I the first?
That's annoying, why not do an exchange? Unless it's not an issue for you. for me, i can't stand it, it just takes away from my enjoyment of the screen.
I will attempt to exchange it, but in all probability the new one will also start collecting dust... It seems that the digitizer glass is not glued to the screen.
I didn't want to hear about issues like this. I live in Oklahoma, very windy, lots of blowing dust, just a matter of time before I see this. *sigh*
Same on mine, the first one has a red stuck pixel and the second one beautifull piece of dust under the screen. But with Asus transformer the situation is not better i had 3 different tablet and each one has dust and many broken pixel. I'm still waiting to buy a good one (i liked more the transformer for a better display and because is more confortable in hand (it weights 100g less)
Unfortunately I noticed the dust particles after the store's return period had expired. So now I have to take the issue up with Acer's service department.
I still don't know if I should bother or not. Are they gonna open it up and attempt to clean it? Perhaps I'll be lucky and they 'll replace it? Anyone else with dust experience?
The weird thing is that the Iconia hasn't left my apartment... No outdoor usage at all!

Gorilla Glass screen defect?

So yesterday I had my phone in my pocket all day. During that time I was doing work underneath a truck. Phone was 100% fine after I had finished. Sat down and checked my messages etc. Then I went out and once I got home and took my phone out it had a crack which spans the earpiece grill to around the middle left side of the screen.
I Found this very strange as it had no force exerted on it and is fully protected with a case-mate tough case. The crack is very very fine. I would say it is hairline. So it's obvious it hasn't been caused by any fall damage.
Just wondering if anyone has had any similar experience where they go to get their phone and notice a mysterious crack has appeared. I have also emailed Samsung which they replied saying they will asses it and see if the glass is defective. But I don't know how they would know if it was defective.
I'm also using tough case and once i removed it, after a long time, found that a lot of dust was accumulated between the glass and volume buttons. I don't know if that tiny gap existed or was created by the dust and i wonder if something similar could provoke it in your case.
I always clean under my case. Where the case goes over the screen edge. I usually wipe out the dust daily so it stays clean. There is no impact marks to suggest anything has hit it.

Well I sent Samsung an email about this and got a reply yesterday. This is what they said:
I’m sorry you are experiencing problems with your device due to the cracked screen. I can understand your frustration about this.
If you provide the details below your device can be assessed by our team of engineers at our main service centre to see if there is a manufacturer defect with the glass.
If there is no fault with the glass then the service centre will quote you a price to fix the phone.

Dust under glass.

After a couple of hours on my pocket i noticed that there is a lot of dust under the glass just on the top of home button. No way to clean it. It´s sucks, phone which is supposedly IP68 water and dust resistant in two hours looks like my old note 4. Can´t take photos for now.
Any of you guys with black phone also noticed that? I can live with but it drive me crazy.
Cheers.
You sure it's under the glass and not just stuck to the top? It's strange that dust could get through. If so, I would contact the retailer and get it exchanged as it sounds like a defective handset.

Yes, black version.
I went to Samsung customer service. They told they dont see nothing strange (of course). They offered to send it to Samsung official service on Madrid (Spain) to check if there is some kind of physical damage and let them decide what to do.
So probably i will do that on monday. other 2 weeks without my phone.
Someone else with this problem? I just want know if its a problem or something normal.
Cheers.

I suppose it wasn't actually under the glass. It was at the side of the home button.
The issue in the photo looks more like light from the screen to me.

From my personal experience and "investigation" I was able to remove most of the dust with a very thin sheet of paper and lots of patience. I put the paper between the glass and the frame and pushed the dust out. It took a long time though.
As for the investigation part it appears that the black coating doesn't extend all the way to the edge of the glass which means there's a very narrow part of the glass where the dust can get stuck and stay visible.
It's a near perfect phone with 2 very annoying downsides, fingerprints and dust getting stuck around the glass frame, at least with the black version.
I have this same issue. Driving me crazy...
If these phones are supposed to be water resistant, have you tried to stick it under a tap to see if it washes out?

No... wouldn't that ruin it cause it water resistant but I don't think under any pressure though..
I have that issue around the speaker grill mesh

I have dust as well around the ear piece grill and around my home button.

It's annoying as hell but I guess I live with it unless it makes it way to the camera or the proximity sensor
Sounds like a defect.
Dust under the screen means that your phone is not water proof.
Id go back to the store and get another one.
I had this with a gaminng system. Took it back and got another one.
It does not mean it's not water proof it just means it's not sealed around the edge, it's sealed further in as there's a small crevice

P10 plus bend problem

Hello there. I have a question. In juli I bought myself a P10 plus telephone. After a few days use ( I never place my phone in the backpocket) I noticed that the telephone was a bit bend and when place on a table - I could actually tilt it when touchin it in the corners. I talked with my Mobile service provider (those who sold my the phone) and it was sent to their workshop. My mobile service provider paid the bill and the backcover was replaced. When I recieved the phone from the workshop - it is still bit skewed ( Ive uploaded some photo and films here : https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B7bL9wrgJXjXSUxuRmpVa2FucnM ) . Anyone experienced similar problems?
Kind regard the frustrated
Haha... No... fortunately, I dropped on the first week I got it on 8th of April since I using it every day the only issue I faced is the painting coming off for some reason. It is inside the case and still coming off from the back, which is odd. not scratched or fallen down to the floor, but little dots of paint coming off.
But I find a good screen protector which is good, called Ghost Shield. The designed curve on edge of the front glass is makes a nightmare to find a good screen protector, but this is cover the surface edge to edge not peeling up on the curved area either.

Thanks for the reply. Well at least my paint is intact
If I had dropped the phone or physically missused the phone, then I could only blame myself - that would somehow be less frustrating
Im using this flip case for my phone. Very elegant.
Update : I'll get my unit replaced with a new one. Since no one replied with the same problem - I'll conclude that it can be narrowed to one faulty device, although I can see that there were two repports in the P10 forum.

Fine scratches

Anyone else have very faint surface scratches on the back of their phone? No idea how I got them on this supposedly sturdy phone, but they are there. The phone has been on microfiber resting at all times.
My question is this, anyone think we can polish the back to get light scratches out?

I have this same thing going on, day 3 with the device. They're not that noticable but I know they're there and that's what bugs me. Somewhere I read said it could be scratches in oleophobic coating... IDK. JerryRigEverythings scratch test didn't show any markings until around 8 on the hardness scale.

Yea I saw the video. That's what has me annoyed. Essentials talk of durability is well documented. Add that to the fact that no cases are readily available means you kinda need to just put up with whatever happens. I'm wondering if we can just use a mild polish on the back to alleviate any minor scratches. Mine are almost invisible, but I their presence at all on a phone I baby, bothers me.
I think baking soda and water would do the trick.

I began to see fine scratches on the back of mine within days. I carry it in my front pocket with nothing else. I'm not aware of any rough treatment at all. I feel disappointed as well.
Same problem here ,another thing to be disappointed besides the Camera.
Same here
I was getting some as well. Try the polish out and see if it works? I don't think anyones tried it yet. Also if you don't mind covering the back you can always throw a skin on it. Also makes the phone a lot less slippery
I had quite a few on my first unit. My replacement unit I have none so far but I put a dbrand skin on it the minute I took it out of the box. My first one also had some scratches in the titanium near the charging port and a nick on the side that came from who knows what.

I also have fine scratches on the back of mine, with scratches near the USB c port. I also have a replacement supposedly on the way, but for freezing & random reboot issues. What did they replace your phone for? How long did it take for you to get the replacement?
Mine was for bad light bleed and the coating on the titanium coming off. Now I have to exchange again because the one they sent me has no speaker grille.
They sent the replacement next day air after they called to confirm. I had already sent my defective device in. This was before they started doing advanced replacement.
I wish you hadn't said anything.. I have them too
Maybe they could be polished out, but if it scratches this easily they are destined to return.
The phone is not supposed to be scratch proof. I'll be surprised if they'll take your phone back just because of slight scratched. Put it in a sleeve to install vinyl backing for peace of mind.
Mine had scratches from day one... lol Just placed my replacement order yesterday but I don't expect to get it anytime soon. Phone is off and collecting dust til I get the box to return it. They stated they wouldn't have any new devices (hopefully ones w/o much of the hardware issues like the speaker grille) in stock until this week when they emailed me last week.
I ended up getting a replacement from essential and placing a skin on the back to protect from getting these fine scratches. I don't hate it as much as I thought I would, I miss the shiny back but I like not having scratches and finger prints all over the back. Wahoo!

Had mine for over six weeks, and no scratches here.
I have a ton of scratches near the camera and magnet ports. No idea how they got there since I carry my phone in my pocket with nothing else in it. The only thing I could think of would be resting it on it's back on a table and sliding it to pick it up? Odd how it is only around the top part. Fingerprint sensor and below is spotless.

Close to that area are the magnets, magnets attract metal and sand, sand is one of the few things that can scratch glass and ceramic. Sometimes even if we believe or not we have sand in our packets due to daily life. Then we have scratches without knowing where we scratched.
Sent from my SM-N950U1 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I don't understand people complaining about micro scratches like it's something wrong with the phone? If you live in a place that has sand then you should have some type of protection on your device if you don't want scratches. Sand (silica) is harder than any coating and will scratch any phone. It also can become ubiquitous. One of the persons here literally has a user pic with them on the beach! Why make it Essentials fault when your failure to protect your phone is the issue?
I got my scratches at my corporate office in my cube. Nowhere near beach or anything of that sort. Was just playing with it and setting it up. Anyone who's not using any protection on the back and have been using it regularly saying they don't have any scratches, please share a close up video of your phone's back in nice HD detail close up so we can be in awe of your magical device with no scratches. Be sure to move it around under a bright light too. Lol. Be real people, you're gonna get scratches without a protection, whether it's a skin, case or whatever.
