I am dealing with a strange charge issue. The phone (A2017) doesn't charge right anymore:
- with the original charger and cable or any other qualcomm 3.0 quick charge capable charger the device takes between 80 and 400 mA only, most times around 120 mA
- only with a years old Powerpack without any ai I manage to charge the phone with rates around 1500 mA, which is less than quick charge but ok.
I tried several combinations of chargers and cables to make sure it's not caused by hardware defects. It looks like a communication problem between phone and chargers. That's why the dumb Powerpack delivers best rates.
The issue occurred this morning, after I flashed @NFounds second Havoc ROM release (great ROM!). Restoring my AEX backup didn't solve the issue.
Any idea what to do is welcome!
Just in case it helps sb else: after replacing the usb port module (bought it second hand on AliExpress) everything was good again.

I can't remember if this has been happening before, but when I have the HD2 conncted to a computer it takes forever to charge. Maybe 1 % per 10 or 15 minutes! Charging on the regular charger is so many times faster. Mybe 1 % per minute or so. This can't be right, can it? I have the same problem on my HD2 and my wife's HD2. They both are using the same ROM (ironically it's the Energy Max Sense ROM...). Is it possible that the ROm is the culprit? They both have quite new original batteries.
USB port supplies less than half the "oomph" of the wall charger. USB charging will run about 300mAh while wall charger will supply about 800mAh
Also, older PC power supplies and older USB 1 sockets may provide even less, depending on what other devices are in/on your machine drawing power.
Yes, thanks. I know that. But that shouldn't accord for an at least 10 time slower charge. And I know that they weren't like this before, but I can't remember how long before. And I have no idea if it can be the radio ROM, the regular ROM or what.
I use energy ROM but older 23699 & see no issues on USB charge rate but yours does seem rather long, what status is the device in when USB connected & is screen off !
Also, keep in mind that the rate of charging goes down as the battery level approaches 100%. So maybe u r comparing charging rates measured over different regions of the curve, i.e. observing the rate with usb charging when the battery is around 90% will be drastically different from the reading observed with wall charging when the battery is at 10%.

if youre running windows 6.5 the quickest way is to turn the phone off then charge
or get a cheap chinese battery charger 6 dollars and a spare chinese battery extended around 10 bucks with 2400 mah double the juice i got a couple of those i never charge my phone anymore lol
Mister B, I have tried with the phone both on and off. But I really need to keep the phone on because I get a lot of work mail and SMS that I need to keep an eye on. Also I don't think I had problems with earlier versions of Energy, I may have to try to go back and see if it's the ROM.
ASCIIker, no. The problem isn't the final bit of the charge. If I put it in when it's around 30 % it almost won't charge at all. If anything it looks like the phone is getting a better charge when it's close to 100 %.
Casemandan, I have a charger like that you describe, but I do a lot of driving with TomTom, and even though I did change battery on the run yesterday it's not something I would recommend...
Btw I have the same problem in the car, with a combined charger/battery charger cradle that I have put there. The red/orange charging light is on, but it goes slowly down instead of charging. But I'm wondering if that is because the car charger is connected to a mini USB in the cradle, not to the micro USB. I have to try that.
I don't have mine connected for much time via USB to PC but when do & have left on charge rate seems acceptable, could be ROM as I found a few issues with newer builds.
As for car charger the low rate will be down to the power adaptor unit being recognised as USB charge not AC charge.
If the Power adaptor you are using can feed 800mA<>1000mA then modding it by bridging data leads so handset goes to AC charging rate is the way forward. Use tbattery to see what current charge mode is.
You may be able to buy car charger already set for AC charge (have a browse in HD2 accessories forum) but I use an old USB 1000mA Ericsson adaptor I bridged for AC charge mode.
Like you say testing charge direct in car is a good idea as many of the phone/battery charger cradles output pathetic charge current.
Well, it's not the ROM. I tried an original ROM and had the same problems. I need to see if there is something wrong with my cradle. I do have a charger that should do what you describe, but when it's plugged into the cradle in the car it doesn't. I'll try to connect it to the micro USB instead of the mini USB and see if that matters.
I've been having issues with battery on my S5 for months since my purchase in late September. I have recently just bought another USB 3.0 adapter[ Insignia 3' USB 3.0 from Best Buy] which seemed to rectify my slow charge/short life problem. I recently used a Samsung USB wall adapter and it charged to 100% VERY quickly. The battery lasted for almost 2 days with regular use, being used to only a half day usually. So I had used a Micro USB charger rated at 5V = 550 mA and this would not work. I tried plugging my cable into a Samsung 5v = .7A adapter and still no luck. The cable lights up with an LED on the end when it has current, and it was lighting up on the wall but the phone does not charge, however it does charge on the PC. I've also been experiencing several issues with functionality, such as not being to control the phone sometimes because of the screen flashing, this happening after making a call I did not place. Would a factory reset potentially clear up this problem. Thanks in advance.
The stock samsung charger is 5.3v 2A (2000mA) you will need something with at least those specs to charge it properly
550mA is only 1/4 the power you need, and will likely pop the charger
0.7A is still only 700mA and less than half the power you need (2000mA / 2A)
I don't know about you guys, but charging my P7000 is a struggle. Literally, it takes on average 6 hours to charge from 0 to 100% with the stock charger. I tried many different chargers (Samsung 2.0A, Aukey Quick Charger, Asus VivoTab 8 Charger) and they are all amazingly slow (usually even slower than the stock one).
Could anyone figure out how to charge this phone faster? It drives me crazy to take this long to charge!!!
Thank you.
try this
Hi there!
Your problem is not a weird one my friend! I have 2 chargers: the telephone one (which sucks, unfortunately) and a huawei ascend's.
At first my elephone charger worked fine and charged my phone in 3 hours. Same with the huawei.
My telephone charger though sucks because it broke after little use (mine lasted 2 months, my gf's only 1 day and a friend's less than a month and I doubt we are the only ones with that problem).
Please try a few things to determine where you stand here:
1) charge it with another USB cable (successfully tested on another telephone)
2) charge it on a successfully tested plug.
3) if you're using an adapter, try another adapter.
If nothing there changes your battery charging time consider testing your hardware pasting this code on your phone: *#*#33#*#*
Try the charging setting and if it gives you trouble send it back for another device
I can testify the phone charges in 3 hours with the telephone or huawei ascend charger when they all work fine, but the elphone chargers and USB cables are aweful, they brake easily and the USB port on the charger loosens very quickly which doubles or triples your charging time.
Hey everyone,
It's a while that my Droid Turbo 2 is behaving weird over USB. It's not getting turbo charge anymore (it shows "charging slowly" on the screen and it take almost 12 hours to get 100% charge). Also when I connect the phone to my laptop, it just gets charge over the USB (still slowly) and not my laptop not mounting the device as a storage device (and the adb command wouldn't list the device).
Do you have any idea what should I do?
P.S. Things I did but I didn't get any result:
- I already did the reset factory
- I wiped cached
- I tested with other cables (including another working Motorola turbo charger)
- I tested charging inside the safe mode
the USB port is broken...
Check the data pins in the socket on the bottom for damage, also try a different cable.
I've exactly the same defect than you.
This happened a month ago. Problem is that each time i would like to send it back turbocharge is working again for 1 to 2 time before problem restart.
I've checked it with Ampere app. The intensity is around 50 mA to 250 mA but mostly around 130 mA which is really low.
Strangest thinks is that when i switch on the device, intensity can sometimes be higher than 1600 mA but immediately fall down to 200 mA after a couple of seconds.
Some forums say that's can come from a bad position of your SIM/SD card. Others tell to send it back to replace the device.
I've never could connect my device by USB to my laptop and i've oftenly observed an overheating of the device when charging with TurboPower.
I'm fed up and will send it back for replacement as soon as possible!!!
Bonne chance!!
So I have a strange problem. A few days ago I discovered the phone was charging so slowly and on the lock screen a text appeared: "Charging slowly". It's equivalent to USB charging with a PC or notebook. However I use wall charger the same as before, from October 2017. Ok, I thought the charger has some failures, tried an other one. Same.. "Charging slowly" (I used this second charger before and it worked well..) Then I changed the cable. Same message (I also used this cable so 100% it's not defective).
I tried 3 roms. Refleashed the stock, RR and AEx. Tried different kernels: void, mint, franco. Nothing has changed.
May it be a hardware-related issue?
Thank you
Hi did you managed to find a fix?
I am having the same issue - lock screen a text appeared: "Charging slowly". Switched few cables still having same problem. I am convinced is not cable or charger issue.
Your wall charger is most likely the problem, even official can fail, you need a powerful aftermarket to test, it could be the cable but most likely the charger no providing enough power.
No A1 but android, see here: https://android.stackexchange.com/q...d-phone-charging-slowly-how-to-make-it-faster
I use either samsungs ep-ta20ewe or lg's mcs- h04er charging between 1600-2000 mA in accubattery pro.
I've switched few cables and 2A chargers. All getting the same "Charging slowly message"
The reason why most of you are charging so slow is because most likely, your phones are warm
As soon as the battery reaches 38°c, charging begins to slow down and will continue to be slow unless you cool the phone down
The battery temp is ok. 34°C
Solution: USB module replacement
I got back my A1 about two weeks ago. The service replaced the USB module at the bottom of the phone and now it works. I used a Tronsmart QC2 charger before. Since it's been repaired I use the stock charger. I was a bit curious and tried a few days ago with the Tronsmart. Same message: "charging slowly".
I think my Tronsmart charger is deffective and now I avoid using it..
Sum up, the repair shop diagnosed the problem. The phone became deffective but they are not sure why. The USB module replace turned it good again but with the Tronsmart charger it still doesn't work. I have to use the stock charger.
(also works with other chargers from my old Samsung phones). Interesting.
(they changed the USB module under warranty, but otherwise it costs in Hungary 10 000 HUF (~31 EUR, ~36 USD).
(refer to my thread opening post, before the USB replacement, the charging with the stock one was as slow as with other chargers, ~200mah, after replacement it's ~1800mah again)
I replaced the A1 USB C module and this fixed the problem

The same solution as in my case. Nice to hear it fixed this annoying issue.
I was running into the same problem, but after 2 months of replacement I got the message of charging slowly again. Been trying to change the adapter and cable but still not working, til I got the idea to use my mac's charger and it works. I don't know why, anyone's having this issue?

Install Ampere from the Play store and check the speed. It should be ~1400mha.
Having the same issue but i found a tricky solution
I am currently running dotOS and earlier I was on Pixel Experience...on the lock screen i used to get this message along with the current and the voltage readings (mA and V) so all I did was I tried to remove and put the cable back in the phone and everytime the values changed a bit....doing this 3-4 times gave me the reading around (1700-2000) mA and 3(.9-4.1)V and the message said charging...and sometimes it said charging rapidly....and if it didn't work out then I flipped the cable( like I was putting the USB in the wrong direction).....WORKS EVERY TIME
