Brought S8 from Middle East .. relocated to India, started using it. Was installing and following Samsung Updates quietly up until two days back.
On Jul 1st after the last update, all sensors stopped working bare the Finger Print and the Camera.
Failed sensors I found out so far ... Proximity, Ambient Light, Magnetic, Accelerometer, Barometer, Compass, IRIS
Phone turned into a basic phone having Finger Print sensor.
All this for no fault of mine.
As you guessed, No warranty in India ... Only option given was to "Change the Motherboard" costing nearly half the price of the phone.
Not going to do this, as I have no trust whether this would fail in the next update.
Has anyone got solution / suggestions ?
What I tried
- Factory Reset / Cache wiping
- Taking to the service center and it seems they have flashed the "Correttt version"
- My CSC shows INS/INS/XSG
MORAL :- A Samsung update messes up their Flagship model so much.
do you update it using odin? or OTA?
have u roll back to stock?

Updated using the OTA ... Did not roll it to stock as I was not so sure what to do.
Took it to service center and they say Motherboard (If there is such a thing) has been spoilt
did flash my phone with different pda and csc number which not belong to my country.
everything works fine here. just see couple apps that belong to mexican carrier.
i think the ota update that u did is still 'buggy' . roll back to stock, im sure it will fix all your problem.

Thank you and I really wish it does.
Question
1. How to find the pda and CSC thats suitable for my phone ?
2. I have Smart Switch , how do I roll back ?
3. I see people referring to some third party Sammobile etc. If I do that , will it void my warranty in any way ?
4. Once I flash to a different country, will I still get updates or after that I am on my own ?
Attached is my Phone Summary , I am not sure if I understood CSC PDA that well.. Presume its INS
Also attached is the Software Version

let me answer to help :
1. based on your attachment, the pda should be start with your 4 last digit of build number, so it is CRF7. u can use and flash all the rom published for SM-G950F with pda number ended with the same 4 digit like yours (in this case CRF7). it wont break your phone, since the rom is the published for the same type of phone (SM-G950F).
CRF7 is global firmware. the csc number will follow the pda number. just find one which suited best for your daily and dont forget to read the changelog and review from user from xda.
2. u need to root first
3. sammobile is just a website that release official firmware for samsung. i download 8.0 update from that site too. its safe. warranty? the rom is in stock condition, so it wont void your warranty.
4. if samsung says they will give update to their device. they will give the update. no matter which country you choose, update will be given. its just about timing, when will u get the update to your device.
hope my answers will help u brother

Clicked a Thanks for your help.
There are thousands who have been affected like this.
Some of them have actually tried downgrading to a previous version and that did not help either.
However shall take your advice and give it a shot in the near future.
Thank you once again. You guys help more than those Customer Care themselves

if that not helping you, bring your phone back to samsung service center, tell them what u did is just updating the system by ota, which released by samsung itself. tell them your phone still on warranty, dont give a **** to their up-coming answers because it will not help you to solve your problem.
shout at them, you want your phone to get fixed on the same day, tell them you are not the only one facing that problem. dont forget to make video recording when you visit samsung service center. if they still dont want to do anyhing, and tell you to pay for board replacement, ask him/her to show their manager, now u can f*ck*ng throw your phone in the manager's face.
samsung release the update , the update broke the system, user need to pay for getting fixed. what the **** samsung
.. contd ... FINAL UPDATE ..
Samsung wont repair my phone for the damage they caused.
Getting reports that many have got their devices repaired free of cost after repeatedly pestering the customer care. Another Technician revealed that this is a ploy to deter people from buying phones from outside ... PLUS .... enroll existing customers for their Extended warranty program.
Meanwhile :- I am sending this piece of **** ..... back to the Middle East for repairs.
Conclusion :- Samsung messed up their "flagship" phone with their own updates. This happened to me, can happen to anyone (even after warranty) So stay safe and be careful.
Now I stand corrected why ppl invest mere 25K+ on Chinese brands that almost give flagship like features

yesterday i broke my a3. removing some of stock apps, and the phone suddenly going crazy, cant use camera, many apps are broken, like instagram, line messenger, many fc's here and there, and reflashing the stock nougat rom using odin, and then my imei is GONE w*f, i dont remember what i did, i do many flashing , cp only , bl only, csc only, combining ap & cp & csc from oreo and nougat, and the imei is back LOL
and yeah, do you have to pay for getting repair of your phone?
Yes I have to pay for repairs ... for a 6 month old device that Samsung Messed up. (around 40% of the price of the phone)
It seems Samsung does a lot of research on their phones and an update doesn't mess up anything.
When I pointed them to the hundreds of issues they round it off with "Sire u do not have warranty"
Some stuffs I tried without success
Recap :- The issues started after I downloaded the firmware
G950FXXU2CRF7_G950FOXM2CRF7 on Jul 1
Update :- After reading lots of stuffs, I downloaded the same firmware (but of XSG version) from Sammobile .. (download is a slow process)
Flashed it with ODIN .. - Knox doesn't trip and doesn't brick if you pay good attention to the instructions.
Result :- The sensors are still dead
So tried with the Firmware before the update of July 1st
i.e. G950FXXU2CRED_G950FOXM2CREB_XSG Sensors are still dead.
Did not go beyond that firmware as it has U1 instead of U2 .. not sure what that is but read somewhere you shouldn't go back to U1 once you are flashed with U2
NOTE :- Contrary to some videos for Odin with s8, the latest firmware flash wont work with odin 3.12.x. You will have to use 3.13.x (It has to do with the Firmware file compression)
Did a factory reset before and after the flash.
The only thing I did not try is removing the SIM before Factory reset.
Summary,
If SHAMsung customer care "advice's" you to downgrade and try .... They are wasting your time .... trying to void your warranty and these wont work anyways
Either they have some software patch that they can rectify this problem
OR else
..... give in and get your Motherboard changed (If you are like me without warranty in your country .. u r SOLJWF)
Conclusion :- I am going to send this trash back to the Middle East via my relative and keeping my fingers crossed.
The cost emailed by SCAMSung India is 20K+ INR with NO WARRANTIES for motherboard. Looking at their service centers there is a worry if they are capable to retain IP65 after opening it PLUS not sure if this would repeat.
So instead of all this, I could shell another 5 to 8K get phones like Vivo / Opo etc with equal or better features All within warranty.
To all those facing such issues, never spend additional money on these brands.
For those proud owner of S8 GALAXY, better start counting ur STARS
Unfortunate owner of S8
You do know, that THAT is excatly what Samsung excludes in their warranty conditions, right?
"Failure of the product arising from incorrect installation [...]
Unauthorized modifications carried out to the product in order to comply with local or international technical standards in countries for which this SAMSUNG product was not originally designed." (Official Samsung's warranty terms and conditions)
And yes, you did so.
Doesn't care if your S8 is an international version or not. Your phone was not meant to be used outside of the middle East. So your firmware/csc/whatever change made you lose your warranty in the first place. Second, you did flash some firmwares by yourself. No one can be sure, that you flashed it correctly (which I assume though). So next time, if Samsung asks you to reset or downgrade it, let them do it at a service point. Period. Then you can definitely say, you did nothing wrong. But, you altered the phone to work in India, which recaps to unauthorized modifications.
I understand, that it is a very unpleasing situation for you, don't get me wrong.
Even if everything worked fine before the 1st July update, you could have a bug in your phone, which just didn't come out to that time.
Some numbers for you: Samsung sold about 8 million copies of the S8 (plus). So even if "thousands of users report this problem", it's just about 0.01% of the actual users. It's sad for a company that big to wave off the customers like that. But believe me, with such a small number they just don't care enough. The high the number of faulty units seem, it's just too few to really think that it could be a malfunctioning update. Because, why do have thousands not working sensors when millions do not have problems? That's where the whole "altered system, you did something wrong etc." starts.
But what I would do, if Samsung denies me that (questionable) service: I would try to make charges and complains against the seller? I think that in your buying contract, there could be something like "promised working etc."
I work in a place, that has such problems every day. Customers who feel let alone from their company.
It's sad, but it's true. If the costs are to high to swap the faulty devices because the amount is so small, it just won't be done.
See Apple with their downsizing battery. They admitted the mistake (like Samsung could do sometime in the future with the motherboard), but they didn't offer a free repair, just cheaper.
In all your anger and disappointment, I hope I could let you see the other site of the problem.

Initially it was an OTA update. Maybe you did not read the thread. No where does Samsung say NEVER INSTALL OTA in a different country. Does it?

In the end Installed the XSG version myself and got it verified by Samsung Customer Care center here as well as from online tech support via their Remote assistance.

No you didn't reveal anything I was unaware. Rather you failed reading the entire thread.
Read post #9 of this thread
The only reason why I didn't persist was, I have the option to send this trash back to the Middle East and claim warranty ... which I am going to do.
So
Whether Defects are 1% or .001%, Failures are Failures, I and many like me are affected while trusting a Global brand ... to help its customers.
FACT IS I invested in a Flagship phone, Trusted the Samsung Service personal stating "You will get all Assistance / Warranty anywhere"
Didn't read "Terms and Conditions" to verify that claim.
Another SHAMEsung device dies
My sister had brought S7 Edge along with my S8
Just few hours back, she called me to say her screen has turned Green..
I read a lot of reports online about this infamous "Green screen of Death" problems of Samsung phones. So much for investing in Flagship devices ..
Got my s8 Back
Update !!
I got my S8 back from the middle east and its working "AS OF NOW"
The report says , changed PCB 2 etc etc
Price paid ? 0$
Won the Trust back? Not yet !! I am not sure if I would do another Samsung Update.
Advice (For those who have s8 Note 8 etc )
- If you ARE under Warranty, go for all the Updates and you will have chance to get the problems fixed.
- If you ARE NOT under Warranty, Take your device to the nearest ShameSung service center and ask them to do the update for you.
Advice (For those who are planning to get s8 Note 8 and S7 edge)
- Please Dont !!
Except for the Camera, there is nothing Extra Ordinary.
Curved display is a gimmick, you will end up accidentally touching the sides while wondering why your menu ain't responding.
Tempered Glass always cracks from the sides.
IRIS Scanner doesn't work for some irises, Doesn't work for me at least
So !! there are better options to look into the market. Look what suits you and you will be happy to pay 1/3rd of the price, yet enjoy all the warranty and support.
Good Luck !!
So, If you are still under warranty
Is there any chance that a new update will fix this issue?
Sorry to be the one telling you this - You seem extremely butthurt and unaware of your own wrong doings.
Just because you had these self inflicted issues, you don't recommend the S8 to others? Boy please. It's people like you i advice to cross over to apple and iOS.

Samsung Updates
Either you haven't read the complete thread ... or ... You did not understand what you just typed
Doing a Samsung Update is what everyone does and what Samsung and Android recommends.
Look around, there are hundreds of S8's and Note 8's affected with the update, and Samsung is rectifying them.
All on their flagship device ?
I have posted both for owners and Prospective buyers..
Lastly my Recommendations / suggestions are based on my experience.

Hello guys, how are you doing?
I just wanted to share with you my own opinion over how Samsung deals with updates to a Galaxy Note 10.1.
Actually, many users have reported software bugs in Galaxy Note 10.1 and Samsung confirmed many like the bug of clipboard. But the bad part is Samsung ignorance of bug fixing. It is good that we will receive 4.1.2 update with premium suite preinstalled, but it is bad that we did not receive a bug fixing package!
It has been several months since the launch of the Note 10.1 that many owners of the product started to get frustrated of the bugs. I cannot copy an article and save it as note in S Note app or share it in Facebook!
Besides, Samsung released JB 4.1.1 update to some regions, stopped then started releasing 4.1.2 in the time users still have the buggy 4.0.4 for many months in several countries, if not most! Even though 4.1.1 has stability issues, Samsung shall fix current bugs of 4.0.4 before caring to release a major 4.1.2, as this needs a quite long time by Samsung for a frustrating bug to remain!
Software is as important as hardware. I do not care for receiving a new major update with hundreds of new features, as we will receive it soon or later! But for me, a stable software with only two features is far far better than a buggy one with hundreds of cool features that I am unable to use!
Samsung used to release improvement packages and push them to their software update server for their products, but it is really strange why this is not the case for Note 10.1!

You write that you are still on N8000XXLGA.
Sorry man, but it is your fault if you chose not to update by flashing the newest firmware.
Thanks to Samsung, Samfirmware and XDA, you have this option.
Other big companies, for example Acer, LG, will not even give you this.
So why do you not update?

Agreed, I had to resort to manually flashing the German JB update to "fix" the PDF import problem on my Canadian N8010. I feel sorry for the average customer that bought the Note but doesn't know how (or even think) to flash a firmware.
This is why Samsung will remain a second-rate manufacturer of mobile devices: ineffective software QA and silly update rollout schedules.
Samsung is known for slow firmware updates, mostly due to the most customization of android in the world. Second-rate manufacturer? Not sure about that my friend. You are smart enough to Google Samsung.
This post is an argument waiting to happen.
My tuppence, IF users don't have the capacity to download 1 program (Odin) and 1 file (the updated rom) then follow a simple set of instructions, put tab in download mode by pressing 2 buttons, connecting a charger cable to the device and the computer/lapto, run Odin, run the update, then they should be buying that fruit based logo device. Haha... so true... hehe... I like your humor...
The note isn't my first Android tablet, but it is the best that I've owned to date. My first Android tablet was an Archos 101. In addition to poor quality control that led to dead USB ports and speakers on multiple units while under warranty, the company's constant push of half-backed updates drove me and others away from that brand. You need to test code changes to make sure one "fix" doesn't break something else. Archos engineers didn't test updates thoroughly and rushed out updates that created additional issues. I quit updating that tablet. Thank goodness Samsung is more diligent. No OS is perfect and some of the things we might be unhappy with really are deliberate design features that Google incorporated into JB (or, in your case ICS). I would also suggest that you update to JB, you'll gain valuable features with the s-pen. At this point in time, I am happy with stock JB. I will probably root it soon (I wanted to use it on stock JB for a while before rooting). Eventually, I may flash one of the custom ROMs developed by the talented developers on this forum. The great thing about the popularity of Samsung products is that the popularity generates more developer interest, a big win for adventurous owners willing to root and flash.

Having to do all that is, to me, what is required from buying a second or third-rate product. I wouldn't buy a car, for example, and be happy to expect that I need to change the spark plugs or some nonsense when I bring it home.
I mess around with R/C cars and I have in the past bought crappy cars because I enjoy tinkering and making them better, but I don't want or expect to do that with a mass market product lol.

Nice analogy er, maybe not...... Thing is, no one is forcing you to update/upgrade/tinker. An update message pops up from time to time on the device and you click ok and it installs. That is as simple as it gets. That's NOT what we are talking about here though. We are talking about folks getting their flossy in a twizzie because a newer version of the OS is available and it hasn't been pushed to their device yet.
I have never seen anything written anywhere on the terms and conditions of any device I have bought that states I am entitled to get any upgrade to OR should expect to be updated to the latest software. In fact, iirc it says that on occasion an update may, yes MAY become available for the device and to either follow the onscreen instructions or visit (insert website here) for instructions on how to update.
Now to get back to the point, peeps EXPECT TO GET THE LATEST UPDATE, but they don't want to follow the instructions to do it. These instructions are usually made as simple as 1-2-3 so that even the technologically challenged can follow them. Turns out they ain't simple enough for some though and then the moaning and bleating begins, followed by the blaming. My device is stuffed, Samsung is rubbish, this cheese toastie is mouldy etc, but you never hear anyone saying, aargh fecked it up but it was my fault, I was born with two left brains or life is like a box of chocolates lieutenant Dan!
Sorry for such a long post. But I hope it helps clear things a tad

Your advices are sick my friend. For me, I did flash many firmwares of other regions onto my devices. But in the same time, good may be overwhelmed by bad things. These 1-2-3 steps were sometimes helpful and other times disasterous! For example, I have flashed many firmwares before on my Galaxy S i9003, Galaxy S II i9100, and my latest Galaxy S III.
For unknown reason, my Galaxy S III got bricked and went into a boot loop. It was not a noticed hardware failure neither it was a corrupt Odin package, but for some reason, a hidden hardware failure has become obvious following the flash. Samsung has reported that the motherboard was completely damaged and that unofficial firmware flashing of different CSCs was the cause. It could be also a manufacturing error. Whatever it is, I was lucky that Samsung did not void my warranty as it was rooted at that time with the flash counter > 0.
Besides, I have more than five Samsung Galaxy devices in the house, and they look to me as their software geek!! Whenever an update is released, I cannot say always to them yes, and let me flash things to you!!!!
Besides, why am I supposed to flash the German one? For the learning hub that does not work in my country? Or for Music and Video hubs that are also forbidden in my Country?! And why does Samsung have all these software variability? Why does not they make a united software with custom configurations based on country; like Apple?! Apple used to release the update worldwide with blocking un-allowed features based on country chosen!
I love to update using OTA; AS SIMPLE AS THAT, apart from all the BLA BLA BLA you have said!!!
no one is forcing you to upgrade, after all it's your tablet and you can do whatever you want, i am still on ICS and plan to stay that way for a while because i feel personally it's stable for me and works, i don't really care about new features i will hardly use, best thing is to root and then you can decide if you want to upgrade your tablet at a later date or not, the option is still there with odin.
i too also prefer uk firmware because some features that are on the uk firmware won't specifically be on the german firmware, different regions different features.

Hehehe The biggest joke of all is that the UK version is INCLUDED into the German version. You just need to change csc and you have the UK firmware, not a firmware LIKE the uk firmware but THE UK firmware.
Some people just prefer to complain instead of moving a finger themselves.
Just flashed premium bugs 4.1.2... not bad so far! Well woth the upgrade from ics unless you use the gallery, as that isn't fixed!

Then stop being a complainawhinger then and just wait for Samsung to deliver your update to you OTA. While you're waiting for it I'll continue to try and help people wanting to update to the latest version, with my sick, but helpful advice, :good:

haha we need more people like you Riki1kenobi... some fun but helpful post...
people should not get easily offended over some jokes the man was just trying to help... and as JJEgan said i also can't understand why so many xda members here are waiting for ota updates... i understand that xda is the place to look for all things android but really the 1st step you should do is not rely on kies and learn some odin and flashing..
but hell we're all in one community... there are always some whiners and whatever kind of people and that just adds to the fun of being here on xda..
Riki1kenobi said:

I absolutely, totally agree with you. People see something new and they just WANT to update, because we are consumer whores.
However, I needed to update to fix the notorious PDF import problem in S-Note (as noted in first post in this thread). Basically, if I wanted to import PDFs from school into S-Note, S-Note would crash. This only happens to specific versions of the N8010 firmware (Canada being one of them).
I don't come looking for fights etc. as a lot of people do, I just speak (sometimes shout!) the truth.
Different regions /countries have different legal requirements which I suspect is one of the big delays for some regions. If you want everything done for you (OTA) , be patient and stup reading forums lokking for the latest updateor you will never be happy.
Of course you could also encourage your government to remove some of the restrictions, but for that I think you will be waiting much longer! I for one am amazed the updates get out as quickly as they do, re-evaluating every rom in every country for legal issues has to be a very expensive nightmare. Samsung is a big international company, ignoring regional laws is not really an option.

Hi
I would like to share an incident that happened to my friend a week ago. He's fairly new to understanding the android ecosystem and hence soft bricked his phone by flashing the wrong kernel. So he didn't knew that all he needed to do was a simple firmware restore and hence he went to the service centre in New Delhi. Skipping all the unnecessary details what happened was that the guy at the service centre charged him Rs 500 just to flash the stock firmware.. Now he didn't know about flashing the firmware and all that and so he paid Rs 500 because for him it was like lose the phone worth 14000 or just pay 500.
The sad thing is that there are a lot of people who don't know about android development and troubleshooting techniques and these service centres trick hundreds of people every day into paying them a lot of money for the simpleat of things.
What we all can do is educate our family and friends about basic troubleshooting and encourage them to research online or consult someone before heading to service centres
Good idea

Teach them not to mess around their phone
You see rooting has charms and it has downfalls to. If you don't know anything about what root and how it can ruin your phone. You should not mess around with your phone. Well most of people there didn't know the fact what disaster root can bring to them. Easily hack-able. I see lot of newbies mess around with their phones after looking the glittering stuff over internet. Well its not that safe to root and just take it to service center in those cases. You jeopardize your device security after rooting. Now you took the device after rooting to the service center. Well for the first reason while looking at the bootloader then person who flashed may have known that you already unlocked your device. The moment you get the unlock code from motorola the moment your warranty run to ashes... So as one recorganised contributor said above don't mess around with your phone too much when you don;t know what disaster root could bring. its better to remain on stock when you don't know is going on.
I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge today and I'm already inclined to start customizing it. I am the type of people who get obsessed with the variety of custom ROMs, tweaks, modifications, etc. and I was a die-hard development fan on my M7 and M8. I went for an iPhone 6 Plus for a while but now I am back and more eager than ever!
I had a Galaxy S5 for a little while (one of the worst phones I've owned, to be quite honest) and I remember there was something called "knox" or similar, which is triggered whenever you use ODIN to root or install a custom ROM, therefore voiding your warranty; is it the same case with the S7? I'm currently doing research about its development and how things work with it, but it's just an important question I haven't found an answer to yet.
With the HTC, for instance, you could do everything then just run a RUU and go back to fully stock without voiding anything.
And by the way, are there any custom ROMs you'd recommend? I was a huge fan of Viper ROM on all my HTC devices (One X, M7, M8) but I don't see that team developing for the S7.
Thank you for your time!
I can only give you info from my experience. I rooted my S6 the day I got it but after a few weeks had issues with reception. It was sent to samsung for repair who promptly returned it as the Knox counter was tripped and would not repair it under warranty. Even tried using the old EU Directive and sales of goods act but they would not budge. This was in the UK. I would say here its completely hit and miss if they will repair it so just be cautious.

Although I'm a huge fan of rooting and customizing, I'd rather be on the safe side in case anything happens. I doubt the Samsung service center technicians are actually very 'savvy' over here, however I don't think I'd like to take the risk. Am I going to be missing on a lot if I just remain stock? I'm curious.

Ad-less Youtube, Viper Audio + Dolby + Bests Audio, Xposed and if you're into learning about how it all works; rooting will only improve your understanding and overall enjoyment of your phone!
Voiding your warranty can be very country dependent. Where I live, if I root my phone, then if I have a hardware issue then legally they have to honor the warranty. Samsung will still try and tell you that it's not covered but will fold when pressed. On the other hand if I rooted and bricked the phone permanently, then I am on my own.

Thanks for your replies, gentlemen. I'm assuming the way to go would be either TWRP > CF-AutoRoot (or whatever is available right now) to root stock ROM or TWRP > Custom ROM, correct?
And is Xposed fully compatible with the latest firmware? 6.0.1 that is.

Hey,
I noticed your in Australia. I used to have the same understanding as you.
I have an interesting thread on Whirpool on the exact subject, and have a current pending NCAT case before the court against Samsung for this exact same issue! They have refused to fix my S7 Edge display with what they have admitted to being a manufacturing defect, because the knox counter is tripped. And no, they haven't folded....Yet

I'm not so much worried about the warranty as I'm worried about these mobile games. A lot are specifically looking for the root access in your phone and blocking it or simply just banning you based on having root even if you don't cheat. Xposed, Xprivacy, Root Cloak no longer work to hide it. It's depressing especially if you pay some of these game companies and log in one day to find you've been banned for nothing. It's their game you agree to their ToS but it really sucks because I've always loved changing my phone up. Now my hands are tied /sigh and it looks like my rooting days are over if I want to continue playing these root detection games.

That's really weird, though. What if you're a developer who roots their device for development or whatever other purposes that are 'legal'? Do they still have the right to block your access? I've honestly never heard of that before. However, on iOS you cannot really play Pokemon Go if your device is jailbroken, unless you install a masking tweak like Masterball, so you may be right.
I'm not much of a gamer on mobile phones so I am not really focused on that, however I am thinking about the warranty issue.

It was some time ago that I dealt with Samsung and Knox was not involved so their stance might have changed. Still was not a pleasant experience.
Are you taking the case to court directly yourself or is it going via the ACCC?
Let us know how it goes. I'm interested to hear the results.
Should I wait until my warranty expires?
I don't drop my phone, almost never.
But since I've been modding and "ROMing" my phones since I started using Android, I was wondering is Samsung's warrranty (my first Samsung) useful to have or should I just dive in and start downloading all those great ROMs (I know, it's all personal preference)?
Basically the question would be would you guys advise on rooting prior to warranty expire date or wait until the "mentioned" date (I've got almost a full year left)?
Sorry for the wrong section of J5, I just realized it -.-

After I got my Huawei Nova, I hesitated to root it for like 1 week or so just because i was afraid that I may encounter some problems with the phone itself since it is my first Huawei phone. Now it is rooted and guess what: I read that on Huawei we still have warranty after we relock the bootloader by reinstalling stock ROM, since there isn't any counter like on Samsung (Knox 0x1). I would have rooted it even if there would have been a counter.
I guess you already know what advantages has a rooted phone or that installing custom ROMs (like the famous CyanogenMod, now called LineageOS) or custom kernels can improve your phone and have a better experience.
Why to give up these? For a warranty? I rather enjoy my phone and use it the way I want, to it's full capability. And you know what? Android smartphones aren't really "smart phones". You can make them really smart by rooting them.
I still have my first Android smartphone, Samsung Galaxy Y which is old and still alive without any problem. But it isn't being used since 1-2 years or so (it's battery is dead, but is replaceable though and also it's quite old and slow). It was rooted, overclocked and God knows how many times I've flashed ROMs .
I also have my previous phone (before I got J5 2015), the Samsung Galaxy S Advance, which is also alive. With this one I had a problem. When I've been running AOSP 4.4 (custom rom and rooted) and browsing, the phone suddenly froze and after I've powered it off, I couldn't power it on anymore. I still had some months left of the two years warranty. Then I went to Samsung service and they've said that motherboard is dead and got a free repair.
After owning 3 Samsung phones, I can tell that they're quite durable phones. However, I don't think I'll ever buy one because it's running Crapwiz.
Go on and root your phone, without looking back.
And if you have J500F or J500FN and the downgraded camera quality or slower charging time of LineageOS, Snapchat video recording and FM-Radio bugs aren't a problem for you, then try LineageOS 13 (which is an updated version of CyanogenMod 13) and you won't regret.

In European Union knox 0x1 doesn't break your warranty.
Repair service may still try to screw you over though, so you should prepare given EU directive that talks about case like this. It's been laying around xda for a while.
Insightfull
thanks guys
I'm just gonna do it.
Don't know why I waited in the first place,
this touchwiz is... something
Besides I see Lineage OS is on the way (I've got J510FN) so that with some tweaks is probably going to satisfy my needs.

Samsung is kind a phone that just needs to be rooted, either for debloating it (since without it, it becomes unusable and laggy) or either for custom roms

And yes, actually, my friend bought Huawei P9 brand new, just when it came out on market and it came with that special kind of warranty (the one that even if you break your device, like display or something, the service must repair it for you for free. The only one thing that breaks the warranty is root.
So two week after my friend bought it, he rooted it and he was messing with the speakers sound, and he somehow completly blew them they couldn't work anymore, he knew that they wouldn't do anything since phone is rooted, so he flashed a faulty kernel (my idea lol) and after that the phone wouldn't turn on no matter what.
He just took the phone to service and said he dropped the phone, they told him that the motherboard is most likely damaged from fall, and guess what they gave him a completly brand new P9
he never rooted again but he did buy me a lot of beers during that week
haha I'll have to try that
Lol i have a similar story, basically my first andoid phone was a ZTE Blade 3 and i started putting all kinds of roms in it, until i put a rom from another ZTE (different cpu than mine) The device wouldnt even budge when i hold the power key anymore but i still had like some months of warranty, and they replaced the motherboard for free XD

I got 24months from store ?
this was today conversation ,,,the results of what you read is just a sorry and have a nice weekend
We are sorry that you seem to be unsatisfied with the speed of us rolling out updates. The reason for that is, that we want to make sure that our update is flawless. Releasing updates too quickly always carries the risk that the update itself makes problems. Please give us time to do our update properly before deciding to avoid ELEPHONE in the future. We are sure the waiting will be worth it.
Have a nice weekend

since you are the service time ,i must say that i have a bug with the keyboards ,on letter p and l sometimes when i press them its closes the keyboard
-Elephone Service
Dear ......, have you tried with other keyboards? I can recommend to you the SwiftKey or the Gboard keyboard. Those are great keyboards.
-me
seriously you are the servise of the elephone and you dont know that the gboard is the default ?tried the swift and the apachi keyboard ,all the same on p and l ,,,and telling cuistomer to try another keyboard is not a solution sorry ,,,
why dont you provide the source ,so some developers like xda can make a custom rom ,tha is fully fuctional ?
-Elephone Service
Dear
Yes, we are the service of ELEPHONE. We are sorry you still face the problem with the keyboard. Of course we want to help you out as fast as possible. Therefore we recommended those keyboards to rule out other reasons that might cause the problem beforehand. If you're still facing issues, please perform a factory reset on your phone. Please backup all your data first so you don't loose anything. Factory reset is a safe procedure when you have everything backed up, including the 2FA applications you might have stored on your phone, photos, contacts and everything else. If you need any further assistence, please contact [email protected]. Please understand, that we cannot give assistance on how to install custom ROMs, as they are third party software. They can brick your phone and we don't bear responsibility for that.
Again, we are sorry we couldn't resolve your problem
Have a nice weekend

hahah what ever ,,,i said just provide the source , so the cm make a custom rom for this rom ,if i brick it ,you should be the last one to blame ,i had over 50 phones in the past ,and all had custom roms ,and they were working perfect ,i just can understand why is so big deal to provide the source ,so a cyanomod gcould be build ,instead of leaving so many customers with a faulty rom ,and with no update ,,,there are a lot of custom rom builder that they can fix the issues in one week ,,just give the source ,,thats nice to get 230 euros from a customer and say to him that we are sorry that we cant solve the issue you have with one of our devices ?but thank you for the 230 euros ,,hahahha,
and its not only me facing problems
a lot of customers of s8
and its all software build problems
Just want to know about Elephone S8 4G
Are you using this? if yes then could suggest that one for me? as I want to try out a different smartphone, not so notable one but equally good.
im the one in a milion mate ,for me doesnt worth to pay the 2k screen ,and not have others, but you should ask others to
@nasios In my opinion you're quite rude to whoever was helping you. It's not their job, and is definitely not a guarantee, that they (or any other device manufacturer) will provide their sources. As far as the updates go, their answer sounded pretty darn reasonable. Why get an update ASAP fixing a few bugs, but in the long run giving you even more new ones, instead of waiting for a stable update that actually fixes the issues..? Personally I wouldn't suggest anyone base their choice off of your comment(s).
*I was told this phone will not receive Android 8.0 Oreo, but within the next week it will receive an update fixing known bugs.

I'd be more prompt to take you seriously if you reported actual issues and day to day use performance rather than petty complaints over lack of support over something almost no company would support (custom roms).. Not here for a fight, no need to get upset over my response. But rather, give some explanation and user experience for me. Maybe mine will be better, maybe not. I know what I paid for is all, I'm not expecting it to work with my carrier, I'm aware of the bugged camera, and I'm aware of their lack of support. Anything you'd like to add to it that's legitimate given the price? Thanks

i sold ele ,bought something else ,no bugs ,(cause if you google it ,a lot of people have bugs with s8 )everything is better ,even the camera ,no keyboards issues with the same programs)the only one is i dont have the screen of elephone which i dont care ..
i guess me and many other users that report bugs and expect from tha company that gave 220 to get it ,are same as me ,,
and i paid less fot the other one ...and im happy ,and i dont care rather if a custom rom will come out ...
my user experience advice since you have prompt the other not to follow is sell the elephone and never again buy elephone ,,,

Thank you for going into a bit of detail about the issues you had. I'll keep those specifically in mind as I use mine, if they're present and unbearable I'll refund it, otherwise I'll keep it. I'm more after the screen and specs, the build looks lovely and I feel there's a lot of work arounds to many issues. Again, thanks.
