So i was checking out the Sprint GSII today in the sprint store and it had a screen lock password on it so i figured some punk put a password on there. I proceeded to go into the stock recovery to do a data wipe and get rid of the screen lock too check out the phone. I navigated too the wipe function, confirmed it then... IT ASKED ME TO ENTER IN THE PASSWORD WHILE IN RECOVERY! The a keyboard came up and everything IN RECOVERY
This must mean you can run apks while in recovery? Can someone confirm the same thing on other GS2 versions by creating a screen lock password and trying to wipe cache or data on the stock recovery?
Maybe other devices can do this too, but ive NEVER noticed it. Does this make GUI's for recoveries possible with touch enabled to eliminate volume button abuse? If someone can figure out how sammy is doing it, that is. Because as far as i know, running an apk in recovery just flat out isn't possible.
^ Teamwin stole my idea, which I am perfectly okay with
If you have an screen lock password set then you need to enter it when using the recovery option.

Yes, but this is the first time a phone has ever done that too me. How is a ime.apk running while in recovery?

In so many words, yep.
My S2 does it so did my galaxy s. Samsung have designed it that way.

I've only ever had HTC phones til this nexus, HTC phones don't do it
Why hasn't a dev ever picked up the idea for a recovery GUI if you can run have touch enabled in recovery?
I tried to put password on my device, the international galaxy s2

I think it's good if your phone has a password and it was stolen, then the thief can't just wipe the phone, but if you ever forget that shyt, stresssss

You have a custom recovery, I'm assuming so it wouldn't have a lock.
Even if the thief couldn't wipe it from recovery, Odin would anyways. So I think its sorta pointless.

Even flashing a wipe firmware with repartition will not get rid of the password prompt.

Dude you're using a custom recovery. It only works with the stock one.
Would be nice if the PIN is only needed power on, then it would be a nice security feature. But having to enter it everytime I use the phone is kinda annoying.
Of course, i use pattern lock if anything. Less annoying.
But the main point im trying to make, is that if a keyboard can run, why cant there be touch enabled GUIs for recovery?

I just upgraded to LPY (via Odin, no root) from a stock, unrooted GB. Now I no longer have a Lockscreen or a Power Menu. If I press the Power button, the phone turns off. No prompt, nothing.
If I sleep the phone, when I wake it will just go back to the last screen.
I verified in Security that it's set to swipe, and I also verified that I have "ON" set in /efs/imei/keystr.
[email protected]:/ $ cat /efs/imei/keystr
ON

I tried a factory reset, reflashing, and nothing has worked. Everything else is working just fine.
Any thoughts? I know other people have had this problem, and apparently for most people the issue was /efs/imei/keystr -- but apparently that's not my issue.
Any thoughts?
Did you go through the google account setup?

Come to think of it, it never showed the Google Account setup splash. After flashing and the first boot, it went straight to the home screen. I had to set account info manually through Settings...
And yes, the time is correct.

For what it's worth, when flashing back to GB everything works fine. Lockscreen, Power menu, no problems. It's just LPY...
For the hell of it, I flashed a non-rooted Multi-CSC GB. Changed my CSC to DBT and upgrading via Kies.
Same issue. Upgrade goes well, reboots, no lock screen, does not ask for Android setup/provisioning, and no power menu.
WTF?

If I do a Factory Data Reset via Recovery, it still does not prompt for Google setup.
Either way, there's still no Lockscreen or Power Menu. Regardless of how it's installed.

The same problem here.
Flashed the original firmware from sammobile and have no lockscreen (yes, I activated it in security settings) and also Google account setting nor the SIM PIN was asked when booting up.
Coming from a rooted GB LC1 and flashed with mobile Odin pro. I downloaded the firmware twice and reflashed 5 times (with wipe, without wipe,...).
Anyone has an idea?
Now back on a custom GB Rom, but would like to try the ICS.
Thanks in advance
Lars
Ok, here is the solution (don´t ask me, why this is necessary ):
- Download "Terminal Emulator" app from market
- open it
- type into the command:
su
echo -n ON > /efs/imei/keystr
sync
and voila, lockscreen and PIN question are there.
should device be rooted for that? I've tried with terminal emulator but after typing "su" command and hit enter it says "su not found"!
why i can't do a nandroid?
since i'm on ics i can't do nandroid backup?

My N4 recently "upgraded" to 4.3 now won't boot past the Nexus X logo. I never rooted or romed it.
I've tried rebooting the phone and looking around the recovery menu but nothing has done anything so far.
I really need the google authenticator data from the phone. I assume if I do a factory reset then this will be lost.
First up does anybody have any ideas on getting it going without wiping it, and if not what about getting the google auth data from it before the wipe?
What type of important data is on Google Authenticator?

Whatever token it has for OTP I assume? i.e. I want to be able create OTPs as before.
I have the emergency codes for my google account ( I think ), but I have one site that I'm pretty sure never gave me any.

Not in this case. Am I **** out of luck here?
Turns out it boots randomly every so often. Managed to get it running twice now out of about 40 restarts. I've sorted my auth problem so now all I need to do is get the phone stable again. Did a factory reset via the recovery menu but no joy. 4.3 has caused me nothing but pain.
Just to finish this one off, I've put back on stock 4.2.2 via fastboot and all is well again. Offering me the 4.3 update again but I'm holding off until they're on to at least 4.3.1
You have access to manage Authenticator at https://accounts.google.com.
I unlocked my bootloader, and went back to stock using the
CLARK_RETUS_5.1.1_LPH23.116-18_cid9_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml_SHAWN5162
method.
Now, every time I attempt to login into my google account, I get
"This device was reset. To continue, sign in with a Google Account that was previously synced on this device."
When I do, it just keeps looping back to this screen ?
Has anyone else seen this at all ?
It loops, as in, restarts consistently working any user input?
The actual error just means you didn't clean wipe/facory reset from inside the OS. It's a precautionary measure

As in accepts my email address and password, but just goes back to the email address input screen, over and over.
I cannot even log into the phone.

Do Advanced Wipe, clear everything but MicroSD. Reboot to recovery then reflash ROM from MicroSD

This happened without me resetting password. I read doing a factory reset can cause this. I also read that a 100% way to avoid this is to remove your google account before wiping phone.
