I feel like after the thinQ rebranding and we get all those features (assuming Android 8.1) that'll be the end for native support for this phone, is this true? Or will LG continue to support this phone until Android P
Posted in wrong thread whoops
We will have stock P for sure.

When talking about marshmallow , there is more rumors about rooting at first now it is simplest one. There will be some chances for androin N for x play.without able to update android N will be a massive failure , even moto g4 released with mm this month , with nearly same specifications of moto x play , It will get android N in few months then our x play definitely will get. If official update was not given for our device, we will get cm 14 or any aosp 7.0 by our great developers. Are you see, some marshmallow features are already seen in 5.1 custom roms . and android N features multi window like already in mm ROMs , I think android N is getting features from custom mm ROMs .

But hey, at least the silver lining on the table is that we here at XDA will find a way. We always do, don’t we?

It's only problematic to make "seamless" update work and not update in general. The idea of "seamless" one is that your phone would download and install the update in the background and simply switched to the new system on reboot, so the whole installation process is invisible to users. We can still update to N or O, or maybe even further in a "classic" way.

Partition issue is just for seamless background update which not even current nexus would get. So chill.
I was talking with CEO of Lenovo Slovakia and according to him, moto x play will get android N for sure
When google releses the code base for N O or whatever there will be something for the developers to work on. The stabel ota from will be probably in 2017 Q1.
Looks like the sources are out

Let the development begin :fingers-crossed:
Yeah....for Nougat, who cares? lol
I very much doubt many devs are going to be falling over themselves to build a Nougat rom when most of them are currently trying (with no help from OnePlus) to develop Oreo roms.
Also, why is it N? Wasn't the 5T supposed to launch with O? GSMArena seems to think so...
Yep but let's release a new device first before we can real get the development going?don't want to finish things do we ?
Android 8 without xposed is useless for me.
I'm glad that op5t comes with android 7.x.x
Will our Moto G5 Plus will get project treble support? Project treble will help us in creating a Custom rom in Just 2-3 days easily....
I hope Developers try to add its support alongwith Android Oreo update!!
Unlikely... New (future) Moto devices might get it, but I find it very unlikely that Moto will apply it to old devices. My opinion, could be wrong, but Lenovo doesn't have much history of giving new features to devices existing devices.

Hi,
All new Oreo devices will need to habe Treble if the device pass the Google Certification. So, all new Moto devices that come with Oreo from start will be Treble enabled.
However, I'm with you: I don't think our current Moto's will get it. :crying:
If Vache does magic again, we could.
But as Vache is already our best Dev, and he's busy, he already shipped 64bits for us! That's already an amazing improvement.
He bring Oreo too. Without him, our device is almost dead.
But I don't know if vache want to add Treble support to our device, and I don't know if he can. But instead of wanting new thing, enjoy what he already done.
I've got an opportunity to get a new t380 for free. Can anyone tell me if the OS can still be updated from nougat to pie? Also, considering this is a 2017 build, is it even worth the effort?
Thanks for your thoughts,
dow
Hello, Yes, the device has Android Pie One UI, it is also possable to get twrp and get masigk running, though you will most likey want to stick to Android Nougat beacuse in Android Pie, Masigk is not installing. But this can change. Also there is no custom roms for the 2017 Tab A, but this can change. The tablet will most likey not get android 10, but aleast you will get longer support on Android Pie than on Android Nougat.
LG G6 is a great smartphone for taking pictures ... and a few other things like using it as a standard phone.
Mine is working fine on android 8.0 (Oreo) EU stock, with bootloader legally unlocked and the infamous lock screen.
From what I read here and there, it is nonsense to update it to Android Pie (9.0). No gain and many pains !
In other words, I intend to keep it under Oreo 8 and try to update it for security patches !
a) how to lock updates to Android PIE ?
b) how to keep updating security patches ?
Is this Mission "impossible" ?
For your info, I know there are alternative ROMS, but from what I read, none works as well as a STOCK ROM ...
I think Pie is no longer supported at all and there weren't too many security patches for Oreo so far.
So after 36 months everything stops ?
No solution ?
So Google and Brands invented the OS that really sets the game ? 2 years and bye bye ?
I'm not a Go-Go Buyer !
It would be fine with me if i'm wrong. And there would be a third big update in the form of Android 10 and if they still release security patches for 9.
Mine is from May, Android 9 of course,so there still is some support.
(and i mistook Oreo and Pie in my post from May, nothing beats plain numbers...)

Thanks "leCorbusier" for your optimistic message.
Android 10 LG STOCK for LG G6 ? You must be dreaming !
Besides this, just remember that I want to block Pie update (check OP) and still get security updates, but for Oreo !!!

G6 received PIE update after 1 year, when PIE was released. Pie update for G6 and May security pacth was last update. LG has bad software support. Forget about Android 10 for G6 from LG. Only way to get Android 10 is custom ROMs

I understand your concern, security updates are more important to me. This is why I use custom roms. But it's also my experience that there are definitely custom roms running android 10 that are way better than LG's stock roms, especially Oreo. I don't know where you read the contrary, unless you have a model that isn't well supported.
Honestly, though, the bonus features are just a bonus to me. Having up-to-date security updates are the most important to me. I buy LG phones after they are discounted, and also only after I see the community begin to support specific models, since I know LG is awful about support.
