Stubborn "Android OS"

Hi all, need urgent help. My note used to be able to hold off its battery drainage well (2-5% after 4hrs) until I downloaded some spy audio apps. Even though i have uninstalled the apps, but i noticed that under battery usage, a bar indicating "Android OS" is using 60-97% of the CPU resources, hence causing severe battery drainage (50% in an hr)!
Already tried rebooting, taking out batt, but when on again, still same, "Android OS" eating 97%! 20 mins, 35% batt gone! Not sure if its caused by the spy audio apps, or something else...
please help...

Monitering app
Install a battery moniter app or a process monitering app and then have a look at what processes are running , and one of them perhaps is the culprit process..

If you still can't figure it out with a battery monitor. Start over, do a wipe and reinstall everything. Being rooted and using Titanium Backup to reinstall your apps is almost painless.

Have you tried some security suites from the market ? Cant hurt to let Norton have a look at this.

Just did a factory reset, whole problem gone. For info, mine is an unrooted Note, as i have no clue how to root thanks for the help guys!

Can anyone explain awful battery life?

Hi guys,
Found that I had awful battery life today, using Galaxy Pack live wallpaper, and autobrightness (+5)
Is this due to the live wallpaper or why else would I get this problem?

Not using any of these. New phone so doubt battery responsible. Do you think its the wallpaper? Just made it through one day at college.

That must be a really hard battery sucking wallpaper you got there mate. With only 2 h screen on I could last at least 2 days without charging.
Do you have s-voice on and wake up command? These were the only apps that consumed that much as I remember. Or did you run any battery consuming apps? It shouldn't be the wallpaper but you can still try yourself.
If you are on stock rom it could also be the KitKat update. I read a lot about it being pretty battery unfriendly.

Im using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxelus.galaxypacklivewallpaper
Dont use s- voice or wake up command, but may have left apps running in RAM maybe. Battery has been 3 hours screen on most days so I dont know whats happened!

Can you go one day without it and post your Battery stats? It's kinda hard to believe it is the wallpaper because:
1. Your screen was only on for 2-3 hours
2. The screen consumption is lower than Android OS and System
Does the wallpaper have any extra features?

There are extra features, but I have turned these off.
Did use internet but not for long
I will try changing the wallpaper. Can't think what else it could be - my phone was warming up in my pocket, with nothing in recent apps. Also wouldn't a live wallpaper be included in OS and System rather than anywhere else?

It shouldn't be consuming when screen is off. Just checked mine:
4 hours on with screen consuming 47% and still 80% charged locked my phone consumes like 1% in 6 hours
(But I'm rooted and fully modded to your phones defense)
Edit. Unless you can say that it doesn't consume that much when not having the wallpaper I would guess it is a KitKat issue or your battery really has a problem

@ant2555 sorry I don't know since I was rooted since jelly bean I never had the chance to look into that. I just read a lot about it being a known 4.4.2 issue. The 4.4.3 update is said to get rid of that

Ok, I'll get back to you either tomorrow or the day after depending on results.
Final question for now, do you know what the common causes of "android system" using that much battery are?

I've been using that wallpaper for almost 4 months without a drain issue. It's not the wallpaper. (maxelus.net is one of the better wallpaper devs. You need not worry about these causing a drain.)
The wallpaper does have a setting for battery saving in its settings (all the way at the bottom as 'Battery. Wallpaper Speed'). Try turning that on.
From the looks of it, you have Sync turned on. Turn if off. (drag down the notidication bar and scroll to the Sync toggle.)
Also, turn off all location services (In settings and in Google Settings(that's an app)).
And try disabling all sounds under settings --> device --> Sounds --> system. (You can elave haptic feedback on if you want.)

Do you have an SD card in your phone?
I found that my Note 3 lasts longer without one. It might just be a problem with certain brands, but mine would heat up considerably and cause the indexing service to go into overdrive.
If you have an SD card, try running your phone without it for a little while and see if that makes a difference.

I discovered that after charging my phone a couple of times I get a false charge which can imitate battery drain, try this code *#0228# after hitting it click Quick Start, hope that helps, if not do a complete wipe for all apps and only download trusted ones. Good luck

Android is and kernel killing my battery. Don't know what has changed in last few days but I'm getting 5 to 8 hours on a full charge

Sorry for a few days, delay been doing some extensive testing. I tried without the SD card and my battery stats became even worse! See picture!

However take a look at some of my battery stats they seem very odd.

Ahh, Google Services. That annoying bugger again. It's been causing problems on several devices.
What you can try:
Google Settings > Ads > turn on "Opt out of interest-based ads"
Disable back up under Settings > Backup & reset > uncheck "Back up my data".
Turn off Google Now.
And you can try uninstalling the recent updates to Google Play Services under settings > Applicationmanager > All > Google Play Services. Force stop, clear data, clear cache and uninstall updates (be sure to turn off auto update apps in Google Play Store first or it'll come back nearly instantly).

Home app battery drain after oreo update.

After Updating to oreo, jve noticed significant battery drain by the "Home" app.
In the "app battery usage" window it shows that the home app takes about 31% of my battery.
Ive already tried installing a custom launcher, deleting home app's data and force closing it, but nothing.

Custom launcher + removing home app using adb method (I don't have root anymore) - works flawlessly.

Also, i do not have a computer right now, so anything that requires a PC is not an option for me.

Despite what is telling in the settings, what is your SoT?
Also, without a PC, at least do you have root?

Uninstall all custom(third party ) launchers may help.
Uinstalling all custom(third party) launchers solve my insane home app battery draning. Just set lg's own launcher as default.

Im on full charge right now. My battery usually goes to 50% by noon.
I dont have root on my G6 despite having root on all of my previous devices.

My default launcher was LG's Home and App Drawer, didnt have any third party launcher installed...
Ive cleared the home app's data and force closed it. As long as it was kept closed the battery consumption seemed normal. Home's consumption was kept at 31% as it was before.
Also ive noticed that after force closing it, my ram went from 71% to 60% on average.

I had the same problem.The home app ate 31% of the battery.I did a factory reset but that solve nothing.I had something like 4 hours Sot and 71% ram on average.I just rolled with it because i didn't know what to do and like a week late my Sot grew to 5 hours on average and ram is like between 65-70% all the time.Keep in mind that i didn't change anything i am using lg stock launcher no root.The one thing maybe is that i didn't install every app i had pre factory reset i think that did it.

The one consistent thing in the G6's battery life is that it is inconsistent
Whether in Oreo or Nougat the secret to consistent and good battery life has not yet been unlocked...

clean rom flash may help you bro i am not sure but in my experience after major upgrades i flash my phone twicely and format my phone before upgradation and i have never face any problem like battery draining, hanging or any other problems

Try wipe dalvik cache under recovery mode.

As ive said, i do not have root on my phone.
After monitoring battery stats and stuff, ive noticed that the screen battery drain does not show on the battery usage section. Perhaps the device shows display's battery drain as the home app's drain?

Update: home battery drain stopped. Now i can use lg home as default launcher without the insane battery drain.

Can you tell us how? Have you done something for it to stop?

I solved the same problem by only doing a force close of the app. It happens when you change the home. Just force close the home app and all will be fine.

Thats probably how i solved mine too.
I downloaded another launcher and i was force closing the home app Everytime it was opening up by itself.

Updated to the ThinQ update and got the same problem again.

Go to Setting> Apps > Check home app in 3 dots in right corner and click uninstall update.
I think because of lg g7 home app.

The solution I've tried and worked: Getting the com.lge.launcher3 apk online, install 3rd party launcher (to launch the file explorer to install the apk, not sure why the apk can't be install via adb), uninstall the com.lge.launcher3 using the pm uninstall -k --user 0 command via adb, install the com.lge.launcher3 apk u have got before

Mi 9T too high idle battery drain

Hello, there is a problem with the phone, the idle battery drain is too high, something is keeping it awake.
I've attached the screenshots of battery stats.
My mother is using the phone, so I don't have it with me all the time.
Any help is much appreciated!

Well Android system has lots of packages, check what packages are activated that includes ones in notification bar, GPS, NFC, Backup, Bluetooth, etc. They all absorb power at some point if they are always on it can drain the battery power. Also go to Settings / Autostart and check what packages are enabled to autostart.

This was with mobile data mostly disabled, and gps was not used heavily, as you can see from the screenshot.
I'll get back when I get more info.
Btw what I forgot to mention, the phone is brand new, like it was freshly set up a couple of days ago, and the baterry was bad since the first day.
She doesn't have a lot of apps, so it's really weird to see this battery drain.
What should I be looking for in the autostart settings?

It says Android system 34% that is too much, if you click on Android system it will list you the services and more info on power drain. For example on my device Android system does not go higher 15% usually, I have disabled autostart for the apps and services I don't really need to be running in background.

You can debloat the ROM by using xiaomi adb tools, no root needed. Then I believe battery will be much better. Search the thread in the forum

Yes, I've seen that it lists all the processes under Android system, but that didn't mean much, because there's a lot of them and it doesn't specify what drains the battery the most or any other details.

Speaking of debloating, is there a fail safe of some kind? If something goes wrong, would a factory reset bring back the disabled/removed modules?

I think the program list only the apps that are safe to debloat and also it just disable so choose the one you don't like and leave the ones you are not sure about and if you want to know about them Google is you best friend

i have this issue as well and i think it appeared when i started using chinese vendor

Factory reset would bring everything back of course but not necessary. The debloat app will bring everything back if you need. You can read many people wrote that it fixed their battery drain issue.

Indeed, I believe that debloating fixed, or at least alleviated the issue.

I haven't updated my Xiaomi Mi 9T yet to MIUI 11. And I don't have any problem with the battery on MIUI 10. Should I wait until this bug is patched to get the update ?

It's hardly a bug you just have to manually configure the apps that you want to autostart in background.

I would definately wait. Since MIUI 11 both my wifes and my own phone have massive drain issues. They work fine for days and all of a sudden they fully drain within a few hours without noticing any app really doing anything.
Mine is more or less fully debloated and my wifes is not but has only a few apps.
I think there is really something wrong with the update.

You know nothing. Is a major bug. Was present in miui 10 and is worse in miui 11.

So is debloat necessary again after updating to MIUI 11 (I disabled the apps, didn't remove them)?

How do I know which apps need to be autostart and which not? Example, I have sharing of my location set up with someone. How do I know if google maps needs to be autostarted, or it's handeled by some api?
It's a huge problem for me. It keeps happening and reappearing every few days.

Turn all off, its the same, wont break anything.

serious battery drain on Android 10

Is anyone having serious battery drain? If so is there a fix for it!!

Not here...

Full charge at 9:00pm and by 6:00am I only see 3% drop, I don't call it a drain
(no root, latest Android Q update, location on, cell data on, bluetooth and NFC off)

Yes there is definitely higher drain on Android 10 overall.
Currently I am on AOSiP10 and getting 3-4% idle drain and about 2-3 SOT less than on AICP Pie. My friend on Stock 10 @ZeroInfinity has noticed a higher drain than Pie as well.
I'm in the process of figuring out what is causing the higher drain.

No mine is about the same as with Pie (I haven't noticed any difference ... apart from once when I ran it right down I only got about 8hrs of sot (screen on time whereas on pie I'd get about 9 but it wasn't scientific not sure if I had the exact same settings).
Is an app showing high battery usage (Also use hamburger menu to show full system usage which incl standby)(might even be worth also looking at memory usage for each app under developer settings, if nothing stands out under battery for some reason). If very high usage suddenly maybe an app conflict with latest update. Or possibly even a crypto miner or some other malware. You can also check battery usage when booted into safe mode so no third party apps run.

Custom is always better than stock on this phone.
Wait for the AOSP ROMs to arrive and you will be able to easily get double that SOT time!

I did notice somewhat higher drain on A10, but not too much to worry about. My SOT on a single charge is usually about 5+ hours. Full stock, rooted. I am using WiFi Automatic to disable WiFi when the phone is inactive, so that might be helping, not sure how much...

On AOSiP10 there is no wild battery drain.
My device sleeps like a baby.
My advice? Stay off stock Android 10 if at all possible!

Not trying to convince anybody, but I am quite happy on stock. I used to flash custom ROMs a lot, but there is always *something* that doesn't work properly. Could be camera, audio, bluetooth, calls, sensors, whatever... So, optimized stock always seems to work better for me. Especially considering that stock on PH-1 is essentially (no pun intended ) a clean Android, I see no reason to switch. But... To everyone their own.

The following is fairly normal for me with web browsing & social media (no gaming), I have background scanning set to off for both wifi & Bluetooth but do have an always on VPN as you can see (that battery drain is from other apps using the VPN, not just the VPN)

What optimizations are you using with Android 10?
I'm getting similar results just using Magisk modules: FDE.AI (plus liboemcrypto disabler for on-demand apps and updates).
Also, my phone was ported from Sprint to T-Mobile and I've only recently got a better grip on changing tower conditions with this APN guide from T-Mobile. I had redundant APNs that may have been slowing connection to changing conditions while in motion or changing towers. Support wasn't much help anytime I called. Vacationing in a rural area with limited and slow data had me looking for a better solution. Even better than before coming back home and surfing internet in a passenger car on the freeway. Deleting the redundant ones was key, I believe.

Actually, same here - I am using FDE.AI as well. I also use WiFi Automatic to turn off WiFi when the phone sleeps (IMO, it was a dumb move to remove that setting from Android). I am also shutting down Internet access with NetGuard to the apps that have no business with it, and limiting or removing location access to most of the apps.
On my previous devices I had to get rid of the OEM and carrier bloat, but PH-1 is using basically a clean Android, making it much leaner...

I haven't tried WiFi disabling in years (Juice Defender and profile apps) but I do limit apps' access to Internet with Adguard (unlocked licensed version).
I'll give the WiFi Automatic app a try and see how that goes. I have little use for WiFi outside of those saved networks that auto connect.

The following is fairly normal for me with web browsing & social media (no gaming), I have background scanning set to off for both wifi & Bluetooth but do have an always on VPN as you can see (that battery drain is from other apps using the VPN, not just the VPN)

mine is just a bit weird on the battery usage. the Google play services is the highest usage on the battery but it just use running foreground for an hour. just want to clear the phone cache but it seems that it could not be cleared since my phone is not rooted

If you are sure it's play services you can just go to apps, find it & then go to "storage & cache" and clear cache or if that doesn't work clear data. (you do not need to be rooted)
However I suspect it's more likely another app is the cause as some apps will use services like location that rely on Google play services which then shows high battryr use but it is these other apps that are actually the cause as they are requesting the service. If you can't work out which tureen on developer option and look under "running services" and "memory" watch hopefully will give you a clue.
PS. You can boot to the recovery and wipe the whole cache partition from there

clearing data is the last method for me. if it is possible, i would not do it.
actually, the Google play services don't play to much, the battery just drain when the screen is on. however, i have tried to clear the cache of google play service before, it doesn't help.
there is an update today, just see whether it would improve it or not. would it be the issue of the battery indicator?
