I've got the 8GB model j5 and have ressurection remix plus the nano apps. Total approx 1gb on a 2gb /system partition.
What's the best way to get this space back and useable for general storage.
.PIT and Odin or something else? Has anybody done this before or can point me to where best to start researching.

When I initially got my ATT Galaxy S4 32GB, it only had 24GB usable presumably all of the Samsung software using up 8GB. So I rooted and installed Cyanogenmod. My phone still only says that 24GB is usable. Shouldn't some of this memory been freed up when I got rid of Touchwiz? I wiped data and cache as instructed in the instructions. What gives?
No. The partition sizes don't change so you won't see a greater amount of memory.
Please see this thread. It's not directly addressing the same device, but it should answer your questions. Last I checked, they're working on a very unsafe alternative to messing with the PIT partition, and they're going the route of manually re-partitioning the device through a custom recovery (obviously very dangerous).
My Nexus 4 had the latest factory image 5.1, I then rooted my device and flashed PureNexus marshmallow. Everything works as it should, except my sdcard is showing at only having about 500mb of space remaining.
I have a 16gb device, I am guessing with the rom, one twrp backup and my apps, I should still have at least 7gb of space available.
Is it possible the device has created a duplicate sd card, when browsing through my internal storage I cannot find any files would be eat up almost 16gb!!
Thanks.
Is the phone recognized as an 8 or 16 GB version on PureNexus?
earlier i read a post where samsung said that from 16gb total storage half is taken by main software ... now that i have a new rom on my fone ... m still getting only 8gb storage and from that 4 gb is taken by new rom ... m confused hee .. where is the rest of 8gb gone now ???
You have a total of 16GB internal memory.
From that memory, about 7GB is reserved for system, cache and other stuff.
You should have about 8-9GB free internal storage with nothing but the ROM installed. A ROM is installed on the reserved system partition, it shouldn't use your internal storage.
yes thats what i thought but i installed new rom n its using half of the remaining 8gb and m left with only 4gb usable space ..
did i do something wrong .. like installed rom normally as we do but now this prob :/
You obviously have left over app data or something. As I said, ROMs aren't installed on the user data partition.
On my axon 7 the guys putting together LOS have I believed shrunk system partition down from 6gb to 3gb. Is something like this possible on my old trusty S4? I ask as after installing LOS 14.1 Nightlies it leaves me with not slot of storage left.
Yes I know it's 16gb and I could add an SD card but I thought I would ask that's all. If we could reduce the system size in file explorer from around 5gb it shows to something less that would be awesome.
Cheees
Ok so read through it again and lineage on the axon 7 is only to use 3gb out of the 6gb partition.
Guessing no way to shrink partition sizes down then.
Cheers
I've got an almost fresh and empty J3 (2016) with stock Android 5.1.1
One of my friends has been complaining about low internal memory warnings.
So I installed TWRP and got it rooted.
It shows the following:
System memory - 7,02 GB
Used space - 664 MB
Available space - 310 MB
And when I do a TWRP backup, it says - ok, system partition is approx 1.4 GB, data 800 MB. In total, full system backup is slightly more than 2 GB.
Where did the rest 6 GB of internal memory go?
Mind you, there is *no* pictures, no video, no apps, nothing.
Wiped cache/dalvik.
But 5 or 6 gigs are still missing. Whats wrong with this picture?
Maybe there's a hidden partition? Can you give me a hint how to visualize ALL internal memory, all available partitions? And possibly kill and resize the useless ones.
I'd greatly appreciate it!
