[Q] Storage question - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Nexus 4 had the latest factory image 5.1, I then rooted my device and flashed PureNexus marshmallow. Everything works as it should, except my sdcard is showing at only having about 500mb of space remaining.
I have a 16gb device, I am guessing with the rom, one twrp backup and my apps, I should still have at least 7gb of space available.
Is it possible the device has created a duplicate sd card, when browsing through my internal storage I cannot find any files would be eat up almost 16gb!!
Thanks.

Is the phone recognized as an 8 or 16 GB version on PureNexus?

[Solved] Internal space missing. (or gone, disappeared)

So I had my S4 (i9500) on Omega v10. I wanted to install a game but it wouldn't install saying there wasn't enough space. After checking the storage I found something weird happening. The phones internal showed 500mb available. From which Applications took 5GB and Misc took 2GB.... so i deleted all files under 2GB. It still showed device has 500mb left so i wiped caches etc to see if the number updates. no go.
So I full wiped and stuff from recovery and flashed Omega v11 hoping it would fix it. But to my surprise the internal has 8.90GB available (which I understand is normal) and then 4.90GB free....
Well then wheres the other 4gb? I looked at all folders through root explorer to see anything unusual but nope. System folder is about 2gb and internal sd after wipte is 3.90gb... I am at a dead end. What do I do?
Figured it out, seems like clockworkmod recovery was the culprit. It was backing up to internal sd card too. Those who have a similar issue check the files at /mnt/shell/~

TWRP Recovery consuming internal storage

I got the 16 gb model of the X Pure because I figured with the expandable memory with SD Card, it would be something I can deal with. So I unlocked the bootloader, flashed TWRP recovery. I configured TWRP to use the SD Card to store backups. While installing apps, I noticed that I was getting an out of storage message. The storage area in settings is telling me that the Miscellaneous category is consuming 4.51 gb and TWRP is listed as consuming all of it. I tried checking the box and deleting it, without success. I checked the internal storage areas for TWRP and all of the folders appear to be empty except for the external sd card. This is very frustrating. Any advice on this?
definitely something is not right with your device, i hope someone can help you soon

Check your TWRP folder on your device and make sure it doesn't have the backup in it? It should be pretty small without a backup (mine says 0.0kb). I did a TWRP backup (Nandroid) after all my apps downloaded and it's just over 8gb.
Here's a shot of my internal storage.

S4 running low on space

I have an S4 with OmegaRom v42 5.0.1 and as you can see below it is showing as internal memory almost full but I cannot find out where the space is.
when I updated from 4.3.1 to 5.0.1 I could still al ot of the old system files so I am guessing they are still around.
ES Explorer is not able to tell me where this wasted space is.
Is there anything I can do from recovery to clear some room?
Or another app which can tell me what exactly is taking up all this space?
Oh I also have FolderMount installed and I have some games which are stored on the SD card, that might be the reason for the erroneous size.
What recovery are you using?
I had a similar problem when going from GPE to CM roms and vice versa. Game data in the android/obb folder would disappear, but still use space. And I couldn't find it using a file explorer. Returning back to the previous rom (on which the game was downloaded) made the data reappear.
I also got the "system is running out of space" message from flashing a kernel (which was in beta).
TWRP
Pull all the data you can off internal storage and format the internal storage using TWRP's wipe option. Afterward, put all the items back on the internal storage.
Will I copy all internal data from within TWRP to memory card, wipe it, then copy back to internal also from within TWRP?
It's probably best to do it from within TWRP and its mount menu as that way none of your apps are running.

new rom installing on remaining 8gb storage

earlier i read a post where samsung said that from 16gb total storage half is taken by main software ... now that i have a new rom on my fone ... m still getting only 8gb storage and from that 4 gb is taken by new rom ... m confused hee .. where is the rest of 8gb gone now ???
You have a total of 16GB internal memory.
From that memory, about 7GB is reserved for system, cache and other stuff.
You should have about 8-9GB free internal storage with nothing but the ROM installed. A ROM is installed on the reserved system partition, it shouldn't use your internal storage.
yes thats what i thought but i installed new rom n its using half of the remaining 8gb and m left with only 4gb usable space ..
did i do something wrong .. like installed rom normally as we do but now this prob :/
You obviously have left over app data or something. As I said, ROMs aren't installed on the user data partition.

Very less internal storage

Hi friends, just this morning I clean flashed xiaomi.eu ROM in my lavender 32gb version. I wiped everything even the internal storage for a smooth start. After the boot I checked to see how much storage we actually get and it was just 20 GB out of 32 GB. 6-7 GB for system is understandable but 12 GB reserved for system seems too much... Is there any way to access that unusable storage?? Or can we decrease that reserved storage?
System use 12gb, is normal there's nothing to do, it's not android 4
It's a heavily modified aosp code,i recommend convert to other aosp roms.
