whenever my ls997 (devdigital rom zv7, their rom thread is closed) (on sprint network) wakes up, it is automatically connected to data/LTE first, then i have to wait for it to connect to wifi.
is this normal behavior?
should i be concerned?
thoughts?
also, i dont get text messages unless my data is turned on. i have an unlimited data plan with sprint. i know i dont have to turn my data off, but i thought i should atleast get text messages when data is off (wifi is on), since it shouldnt be using data anyway.

Has anyone experienced this before? I seem to loose 3G connectivity while talking on a call. I can keep talking... but the 3G icon disappears and I see an alert icon notifying me that I've lose data connectivity.
This doesn't happen all the time, but quite often. Sometimes, the icon with signal bars will have a small 'R' at the top left indicating that I may be in Roaming mode.
I've got the ATT Nexus One with Bell Mobility as my carrier (Canada). They have a pure HSDPA network with no 2G fall back, so I'm not sure how I could lose 3G and still be on the call... I've got 2.2.1 FRG83 with Stock Android and the phone is NOT rooted.
Any suggestions? Should I reapply FRG83 -- or the entire stock android image (is this even possible on a non-rooted phone)?
Not sure if this is the same, as I never go into Roaming mode... but I routinely lose my data connection while making phone calls. I'm on T-mobile, btw.
Is this something normal? Have you just ended up living with it?
I'm slightly concerned about missing an email or SMS during a call if data connectivity is lost. Although, I don't think that data is truly lost as Bell Mobility only has a 3G network, there is no 2G to fall back on...
Are you sure you're not roaming over other networks? I'm sure you are switched to another network, and the data is dropped because Android has a switch to turn off data (which has nothing to do with SMS, by the way) when roaming, and this switch is on by default.
When the data is dropped, I believe it's not re-negotiated until the end of your conversation, so if you're switched to a roaming cell tower for even a second - your data is gone until the end of your call.
If your cellular carrier has agreement with other carrier's cell towers and they accept roaming (which is sometimes the case, as I've learned from this forum) - you should turn that switch off to retain data even when roaming.
Here is some strangeness that I'd like to investigate.
When I'm on a voice call, data usage is strangely inhibited even when on Wifi. The market will report network errors, and when it does download an app, it will never install the app while on the call. Other apps that use data are either non-responsive or extremely slow. For example, the Engadget app will display text, but not images. As soon as the call is ended, all returns to normal. Again, this is not over 3g/4g, but Wifi enabled and active.
As an additional datapoint, over the same Wifi network, my laptop gets 12.63Mb/s down and 1.36Mb/s up while my Atrix gets 2.4Mb/s down and 1.4 Mb/s up.
Is anyone else having reduced and/or null data traffic while on voice, even on Wifi?
speedtest seems fine for me on WiFi. Not quite the max bandwidth.... my connection is 15Mbit down and it comes in around 9... but not bad either way. Upload bandwidth seems right about where it should be on WiFi.
As for the data use while on call.... i dunno. Never used it when i used my iPhone that i can remember.... and haven't had my Atrix long enough to even think of doing so, so i wouldn't know about that one.
Well I haven't tested data use while on a call, but as for the wifi data speeds...I've never once used a phone that received as fast a wifi signal as this one. My home modem usually connects at around 15.5Mbps. My phone speedtests on WiFi at 13-15Mbps. That's *amazing* for a phone.
Hi,
I bought my new Note in June. It's great, but I have a little problem. In my school, I carry the Note in my pocket. INSIDE the school, I don't have signal of any sort (data signal/for calls/for SMS), and my friends have the same problem. But the last week I have this problem: when I left the school, I recived again the data and mobile signal. But now, when I go out, I only recive data signal. Putting on Airplane mod/turning off and on data signal does not works. It loses the signal. I have to restart the phone and THEN I see the H+ icon with the two arrows. Outside of the school I HAVE data signal, because when I restart the Note, it comes again! Please I need help, I don't want to keep restarting my phone every time I left the school!!!
Greetings!

Similar issue happens at home but I have an at&t microcell and attribute losing data to that. I only notice that I lose 3g data when I try to send an mms and I get an error that says 'will try sending sms when data returns'. I just put the phone in airplane mode and then turn airplane mode back off. That seems to fix it. There was a thread a while back that mentioned a tip on disabling fast lock or fast wake something in the mobile network settings for at&t. The poster said it was enabled by default and that it did no good to our phones other than to make them slower connecting to at&t 3g. I hope someone remembers that thread.

Do you know a solution for International version? Entering in Airplane mode or turning off data does not works.

any ideas what data roaming feature does if it doesn't switch data roaming off?

Considering you're on Wifi, you're not on cellular data at all. You would otherwise have a second symbol shown that would tell you the data connection type (i.e. 4G, H+, H, E, or G).
In this particular screenshot, I would say that you are on voice roaming with WiFi data.
I totally got charged for data even though I was on wi-fi. no one called me and i didn't get any text messages. Fido has told me that in order to not get charged for data both data services and roaming would have to be off which makes no sense to me.

Sounds pretty bogus to me.
I guess somehow the device is still using data while WiFi is on? If so, that's silly. I guess if you want to be certain, you could indeed turn off mobile data. At least there's a toggle for it on the notification bar. *shrug*

oh well i guess i won't trust the stupid phone i'll just use airplane mode when i'm gone on vacation so i don' t come back home with a FAT bill lol
I believe texting uses data over the network when checking for incoming texts as well, even if one was never received.
I haven't seen any reports of bluetooth or wifi tethering not working while in a phone call but that is what is happening to my nexus 4. I'm using Purity rom with a hybrid radio and have LTE enabled. Whenever I make a phone call, the data connection type letter on the signal bars in the notification drop down disappears. It's like the data connection completely stops.
If I am not tethering and make a phone call, the data connection type letter stays active and I can use the connection with various apps. It only seems to cut out when I am tethering with either bluetooth or wifi. Is this a normal problem? I was thinking I might have to apply the tmobile tethering fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...s-4-lte-lte-tethering-hotspot-t2416822/page41
to fix it but wasn't sure it was still really necessary in 4.4.4 or that this problem was even related. I thought that fix was for if you kept being redirected to the upgrade page of tmobile. My plan is truly unlimited 4g (not the 2gb of high speed data then throttling down to 2g speeds) and tethering is included. I'm not being redirected anywhere. The data connection just stops. I was thinking this was a problem with 4.4.4 since it has never happened to me on other versions.
I'm pretty sure that the way Mobile data works makes it impossible to both call and receive data at the same time.
Mine does the same thing on my sprint galaxy note 4. I am rooted using the native tether (unpaid). As soon as I receive a call, tether looses connection and stops.
I'm coming from a sprint galaxy note 2 with the same setup. I've never had this problem in the past. I was able to tether and use other apps during calls. The only difference, from what I can tell, is that my note 2 said "4g",and my note 4 says "LTE". Help please....
