damn... so we are getting 81 too?
Anyone got it? Is it a 64bit build?
It's cool that we will probably also get 8.1, but people this is the G5S Plus not G5 plus. However that does mean that we are next I guess

There is no way to OTA a 32 bit OS to 64 bit OS. It would require a complete internal wipe andnd let's be serious Motonovo won't waste their time to make a 64 bit rom.

that would suck, i mean it is their fault for making a Special edition of a phone a few months later not mine, we deserve 8.1
also don't forget the G4 plus will receive 8.0, so i don't think motorola would leave the G5 plus in 8.0 as well, being it a newer model..
my guess it the standard G5 and the G4 plus will stay in 8.0 and the G5 plus, G5S and G5S plus will receive 8.1
I doubt Motorola would release 8.0 for some phones if they have 8.1 ready. What update did the Moto Z Play get? We'll certainly get the same version as we have the same chipset.

Maybe it's not so bad to wait. If I look at Samsung who messed up Oreo for the S7 and S8 and now have a bunch of bootlooping A3's (also released 2017) it may be not so smart to push unfinished updates.
But Lenovo does at least their best to irritate their customers. Communication could be helpful.

Yeah, I'd much prefer a stable update to the headache that has been some Oreo updates (Z Play, Galaxy S8 updates being pulled then re-instated). I agree it'd help for Motorola/Lenovo to at least say we're working on it (don't ask for an ETA)....

It's possible, could be that note was only meant for the soak test updaters, and not meant for general release (yet).
Looks like we're stuck on 7.0 forever ?
Will we get update on June 2018? Or after release of android p cause that would be very sad..
My battery seems to be draining quicker lately - do we know if this is being addressed in the updates?

About your battery, a few things could be done:
1. Check battery stats for the apps that are draining it. It's in the Settings>Battery
2. Battery drain can also be caused due to poor network coverage coz your phone is constantly looking for better coverage and hence switching between radio towers often just for that
3. You may/may not have an app that might be causing a drain (you'll need to check for that)
4. Sometimes it is caused by using all your phone's radios (cellular + Wi-Fi + GPS (GPS only mode) at the same time, drains battery faster
But of course these are just some of the generic reasons for a battery drain. Sometimes a it's because of the ROM as well when you flash a new ROM and the battery isn't calibrated, in this case two or three days of general charge and discharge cycles usually fix that. But if you're on stock and hoping for Lenovorola to fix that in the coming update, I'd say we all stock users have a fifty-fifty chance for that to happen as they haven't released an update that specifically mentioned "fix for battery drain" or "battery optimizations" or the likes of it. They can definitely do it but I wouldn't keep my hopes up for that.

Not that I have heard of. I'm checking the usual sources and until now there was nothing.
There are rumours that the G5S+ is in a soak test but you know what to think about rumors.
As in the past some users would state that they are in or even a ROM would pop up on XDA.
So we have to stay patiently.

Well its official. Support is now dropped in terms of major ROM updates. We're stuck, official ROM wise, on the current 5.1.
Very very disappointing as I think our devices are perfectly capable of running Marshmallow. Just proves yet again the claim that Apple have better support. I mean the 4s got the latest iOS 9. Anyway…sorry to bring the sad news guys. Cyanogenmod it is then.

We can already be happy to have received the 5.1 !!!!! (and perhaps an update for the latest major security breaches !! I think we're many people that are very disappointed by Motorola)
Well its now a 2 year old device, does it sucks ? Yes, of course
But considering the Nexus 4 had problems updating to L and its not on the roadmap for M (same exact situation for X2013), maybe theres something with the Snapdragob S4 Pro ?

Nothing wrong with the Snapdragon S4 pro. the nexus 7 2013 has it and it's getting the upgrade.
The biggest disappointment for me in not getting an M update is there will be no official fix for the Cell Standby battery drain.
I've since reverted (I hesitate to say downgraded) to 4.4.4. Sure, I'm missing the stage fright fix, but at least my battery isn't dead by 5pm. I guess I could consider a dead battery the ultimate stage fright fix.

I was hoping for Moto to address the myriad issues in the 5.1 OTA, but that seems rather unlikely at this point. As much as I want to stick with the stock ROM, there are too many annoying problems. I think I have to make the switch to CM in order to have a stable, relatively bug-free experience once again.

I realize how it sounds, but that's truly how bad the 5.1 OTA has been for me. YouTube randomly pauses videos while audio continues to work, requiring a reboot. Random loud crackling/distortion through the speaker, requiring a reboot. Overall increased battery drain compared to 4.4.4, with random periods of even faster drain, requiring a reboot. Broken calendar sync.
Been playing with CM12.1 all day, and although I'll deeply miss the stock Moto features, performance has been great with none of the aforementioned bugs. It simply works as it should. If by some miracle Moto were to release a 5.1.1 update without annoying issues, I'd switch back in a heatbeat as I prefer the stock experience.
I would be happy if we just got a fix for youtube. It's broken now on my locked down ATT xt1058 and seems to be for many others as well.
We're on 2013, but many of the 2014 Moto X models aren't getting it either http://www.androidcentral.com/delays-and-abandonment-now-dominate-motorolas-comeback-tale
Which is abysmal. I can't imagine getting another Moto after this. Moving over to Nexus for my next phone. I'm generally happy running 4.4, especially seeing the issues some of you are having with OTA 5.1. I like this phone. I bought this phone because it was made by Google, but I don't think the Lenovo sale has been good news for Motorola.

This is not a logical response on my part, but now that I know my Moto X 1st Gen won't be getting any more official upgrades, I suddenly feel much freer to play around with it, install custom ROMs, etc. I did this all the time with my previous phone (HTC Sensation), but I've stuck with stock on my Moto X, mainly because it has met my needs pretty well (apart from battery life). But now I'm free to play! In fact, CM12.1 went on my phone just this morning. Nice!

Moto G 2015 and Moto G Turbo are noticeably missing from the list... as well as all E models. A real let down.
Good thing we have great developers already working it for us.
With even more job cuts recently, I was beginning to suspect this would happen. There are now too many variations of handsets and too few engineers. At-least that's how it seems from the outside.
The worst part is that very little additional effort should be required to make an Osprey / Merlin release - considering Moto G Play (4th Gen) is near identical hardware.
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=7247&idPhone2=8104
Disappointing. A big reason why I chose this phone was Motorola's track record from previous generations (which admittedly was showing signs of breakdown even then). Doesn't really matter anymore now that I have a custom rom though...

Okay, all problems aside, let's assume that they do indeed make an update to Nougat. How long would it take to develop with the already diminished amount of developers? The Marshmallow update took around 4 months if I'm not mistaken, and that was before a wave of lay-offs.
But it was clearly written when the turbo was launched...that it will get update upto android N....
This is extremely disappointing...i will never buy a moto phone again.
Going to **** at their Twitter account..
mmm .. why are they doing like Samsung
at this rate, no one will like Moto in india (as we have so many powerful competitors )
they cant make sales go up unless given us good support to old phones, the only reason i am proud of MotoDevices is that the fact it delivered fast updates till now..
hands down to Moto
When i purchased a Moto G3,my main focus was on getting software updates, thanks to the near stock Android experience.I overlooked many of the competitors priced more affordably, had bigger displays with better resolution and had more powerful processors and better battery life.I was only disappointed to see that it is to be supported for only one Android version update that is to marshmallow and no Nougat even if the hardware supports(seeing how well it runs on Nougat roms thanks to the developers).I think next time I should consider buying a phone with good hardware,eg. Redmi Note 3 and then flash a ROM in it to get the best of both worlds.
Even Redmi Note 3 has good developer support and has been successfully running Nougat 7.0.Heavily disappointed by LenovoMoto.
Now no confusion about SoC becoz same SoC phone getting Nougat. Really disappointed with Motorola about Moto g3. Now Motorola is not Motorola its Lenovo
Guys I was reading online, It is likely that the Moto G3 will also get the update. The problem is that this will only happen later, close to january.
there is still suspense on g3. maybe or not we got exciting news like last year g2 got MM update after a very long announcement(I think in December)
Probably the biggest reason osprey doesn't get N is because the chipset does not support Vulkan or openGL3.1 (like the 800 and 801 devices).
Merlin is the worst handset I received from Moto... No official remade or custom ROMs...
Waiting for 17th Oct for Moto Z Play release or get an IPhone at least its guranteed 4 years support...

I'm sure you are correct in that Vulkan / openGL3.1 is a key factor. However, to drop the upgrade for Moto G Play (4th Gen) so soon would cause a lot of bad media coverage.
Osprey / Merlin can run Stock Motorola Nougat - they even have a faster chipset - but it just looks like they had to draw a line somewhere on the list of devices to support.
I am wondering about the Motorola Moto E (3rd gen) being released only in September 2016. Perhaps because it has a limited market (Mediatek chipset main cause of not updating?) - the amount of protesting users will be very limited. I still expect some bad press over that decision.

From my perspective the majority of the development work is already done. However you have to consider the time and effort to trial / test the firmware running on Osprey / Merlin and then possibly resolving some small issues.

Even tho we have custom roms, it kinda stinks. I'm disappointed, for a device only one year old. A shame. It seems like no OEM cares about updates, and quite frankly, why should they? They're not making any money from releasing software updates, as Google is the one reaping the profits with their ads. Ugh.
Am I the only who it thinks that they will update it? The same occurred with the Moto E and marshmallow.

Motorola recently announced that it will be updating the G4 Plus to Android Or as well. But it also stated that it usually updates the G line to only one major Android version. Does this mean that the they'll hang the G5 Plus at Oreo? Or does the marketing material say otherwise, and we could use it to get P for us as well?

Bro lets just see how much time does it time takes for moto (lenovo) to give us official Android O update:cyclops:
till december we will get oren and forget about P...that s for sure as of now, according to the above statement from moto!
I read on Lenovo forum a comment from Motorola employee that they have policy of one major os update in Moto G line. So android P for G5 is unlikely.
G4 plus is getting Oreo because Motorola advertised (by mistake, as they say now) it like that at the time of G4 release
1 major update policy for Moto G line is lies!
The original Moto G got updated from Jellybean to Kikat and Lollipop
The 2nd gen Moto G for updated from Kikat to Lollipop and Marshmallow
So? That was in the past.
I have hope in getting Android P in MoTo G5 PLUS
All hope is in us. I'm afraid that we will have to fight on social media and forums (Lenovo profiles, forums, etc.) to get Android P in future.
I wouldn't be surprised if we never see Android p on g5 through Lenovo. My Moto X Pure Edition (Clark) was promised nougat for a long time and when I switched to g5 a few weeks ago I still hadn't received the OTA

If Lenovo's history continues... later this year (November or December) at the earliest, possibly beginning of next year.
Remember, even they don't even have Nougat out to all models that are getting yet... US users with the Moto X Pure are still waiting and that was a flagship for like 16 months.
Why do you want Oreo so much anyway? I don't see anything worthy waiting
can we sue Motorola for delaying the oreo update for g4+ as they promised during the launch event of the g4+
I realise this might be poking a hornet's nest...
What grounds would you sue them on? Did Motorola promise a timeframe to release the Oreo update, besides saying they would release the (unplanned) update at some point in time? I'm just curious about how your argument would go.
let me make this very clear, ALL devices which are scheduled to oreo of 2017 devices will get first the update. THEN work will be done of the g4 plus!! You can get pissed off as much as you want but you can only sue Motorola once Google themselves leave support for oreo and even then the g4 plus was not updated.
We were lucky to have nougat on time as you may know, g5 family didnt received oreo update. For now only z family and x4 got update as they are there premium mid-range and flagship phones. On the other hand they where not even planning to update our phone to oreo , so depay is given. We will not get update until g5 family get and they deserve more then us(they didnt even got 1 major update)

Keep in mind that last year, in February-March we already had Nougat on our devices, but the owners of G5 series didn't received Oreo and we're already in the beginning of May. See don't have any reasons to be mad at Motorola because they didn't update the G4 Plus to Oreo, as long as the last year phones didn't received their updates.

I was talking about official updates, not soak tests. I know, because I had Nougat on my phone since the first soak test was released, in December 2016.

can we sue Motorola for delaying the oreo update for g4+ as they promised during the launch event of the g4+

Well, you wouldn't be suing Motorola; you would be suing Lenovo, and I don't see that working out in your favor at all.

I'm sorry my bad
I've been watching some videos and photos of people getting Oreo on their moto G5 plus, yet I haven't seen any stock Oreo roms
What is happening?
And thanks for reading my not so good English
It is a beta testing of the stock ROM. Only a select few people that have enrolled in the Motorola Feedback Network will get it. The global release will happen in a couple of months. You have to wait.

Oh really? Got a verifiable link to that information? If not, don't post about it here...
I didn't think so, because we all know Moto does NOT give specifics about updates... EVER.... they never have and in the official forums they have been very clear that is their policy and they never will give specifics.
We all want it to come out, but making up stuff or spreading unsubstantiated rumors does not help.

As a long time Motorola user I can tell you that all these chat Infos are nonsens.
As @acejavelin said, Motorola never announced anything about update ETA. You will find these " some chat helper said" posts from Falcon over Titan until now and always the answers are useless.
All that these guys are able to do is telling you to do a factory reset. They have no clue when an update arrives, maybe they are told to say something like "within the next weeks" just to calm down the countless users that are asking for it.
These posts are useless even in combination with a screenshot. So don't post rumours that will never be confirmed and don't help anyone.
And don't crosspost these stuff in several threads!

Are there at least any fully stable 8.1 stock roms out there?

I doubt this would happen, Moto users are not so lucky in the firmware update department!
But if you say so...then "I would give away free sweets riding a royal elephant" like those royal kings.
Coming back to the point..i strongly disagree that moto would give a certain timeline or a date, their culture is different; they believe in uncertainty and chaos.
Moto would make a grand entry with (nectar) Oreo (ahem..32-bit) for their dying devices, like a savior.
Peace out.
Motorola link saying Oreo is available
I found a link saying Oreo is available and I can't post the link because I'm a newbie on this forum. You should be able to find it by searching "MS130856 motorola" on google.
It doesn't seem to be available to my phone. Any idea when the Oreo 8.1 info might have been posted and when it will actually be available on my G5 plus?

Depends on where you come from. Oreo is available in India and Brazil, some users also confirm it's rolled out in Mexico and GB.
Threre are several threads around about it, also some OTA are available also fastboot firmwares.
Just search in this forum and you'll find all informations. For pending regions: Motorola never gave a timeline and most probably never will.
Edit:
Oreo won't make your life better, gives you wealth or makes your love life better. No offense, just kidding....
