Backup Internal storage goes offline in June 2018 - Honor 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Like title says, in June there will be some kind of update not sure if Oreo or just monthly security patch, but go to the: Settings > Advanced settings > Backup and reset > Huawei backup, try option backup data it will give you options how to backup data: Computer, Internal storage or USB storage.
Under Internal storage there is red message about offline feature in June 2018.
imgurcom/a/GyiFBZ7 (insert . after imgur)
On Honor 8 (FRD-L09), B405, EMUI 5.0.1, OS 7.0
That update (virtual, three finger screen shot,...) or Android Oreo or maybe something else, how knows.
EDIT:
Maybe it is based just for the app from Huawei (Huawei backup).
Funny, child company Honor using Huawei app and cloud storage (cheap move)
Maybe in June 2018 they will give new option for Honor users.

What's your point of this thread? Why would you save a backup to your internal storage anyway? It's moronic. Oh and your "baby company" comment, well I guess you should learn few things. Honor is a division of Huawei. They aren't even an annual company lol. You kids on here are just sad. No wonder this site has gone down the ****ter.

Maybe with this change Honor 8 will get some kind of updates (not just app).

No **** Scherlock. Honor is a division sub-brand of Huawei group, but mother and father is still Huawei.

Ok, but they give and take from Huawei.

Buying a Mate 8 from China. What to look for?

Hello, guys!
I am interested in buying the Mate 8 from a Chinease retailer. My main motivation is that they offer lower prices on the device. However I am aware that there are some "risks" involved so I wanted to make this tread, hoping that some usefull advice can be gathered here.
Firstly, I understand that there are a couple of versions of the Mate 8. As far they are conserned the only ones worth considering are the AL10, L29 and L09 since the other versions, like DL00 for instance, have poor software support. Does this mean that the former enjoy regular software updates? In the case of the AL10 can one receive the uptades regulary if he is not residing in China? Does Huawei push montly security patches?
My second consern is regarding google play services. As far as I understand a buyer of an AL10 would receive the device without google play store and google services. Is it true that the device comes with a Huawei app store from where they can be downloaded? Are there any issues regarding the installation and regular usage of the play store and other apps that are downloaded on an AL10?After all it is a Chinease version so perhaps it was not meant to have play store on it.
Thirdly I would like to ask whether one should allow the retailer to install google play and multi-ling support? I ask this because it came to my knowledge that these vendors would usually install some kind of custom rom that does not have software support.
Is there something that I am missing? Would you have any further advice? Is there something else one must look after when buying a device from China?
I bought mine here
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/1968447 (not sure if i can show a link to a store).
take a DHL and tell them to write on package that is worth about 80 usd to pay less taxes.
Ive got a DL00 version, 32 rom, 3 ram. Its multilanguage support with a play store and OTA updates support. Working great, smooth and fast. And it was cheaper than in polish store about 30% !
They got support on whatsapp and they help you in your problems.
I can highly recommend it to you. If you have any questions u can always prv me.
I bought the mate 8 just after it released in China (I went in person). I am now residing in Australia and still receive the updates as fast as others in China. The only issue is some apps and features (like the update change log) are in Chinese and I can't change it, not that bad for me but maybe it is for you.
It comes with Huaweis app store which upon searching google can install all the normal google apps like the appstore. I've had absolutely no issues using it normally here and every app and setting I need works.
I wouldn't get them to do anything to the phone because it's easy to do myself.

I am glad to hear that your device works properly!
I suppose when you first set it up you have the option to choose between English and Chinease right? Do you need to have a huawei account to download apps from the Huawei app store? If yes, did you have any issues setting it up? I am asking because I have heard that some people do have. Regarding the change log it would't botter me if it is in Chinease, but is there something more "major" that is also in Chinease and one should know of?
You can convert the China Version AL 10 to C432 Euroversion or C636 Asia Version.

Yeah it's like any phone that has the option to change language on start up.
Had no issues setting up Huawei account. Not sure if it's needed or not though.

Repping the Huawei Mate 8 NXT-AL10
I've just bought the Mate 8 in Guangzhou on last Sunday (Sept 25, 2016) in a Huawei store. Installed Google services, sync contacts.. without any problem!

My Device can't find February Patch. I've tried everything. No results.

Hello people, I can't patch my device to February Patch.
I'm stuck to January one.
I've tried EVERYTHING (updating Google Play Services via APK or signing to beta tester on Google Play).
At the end, I've done a factory reset, too.
My device IS NOT Rooted, and bootloader is LOCKED.
Someone can help me, please?
Thanks,
ghale
Me too. Brand new Xiaomi, just bought today. After setup, it downloaded two updates, Dezember and January update.
Maybe we should wait a little longer.
Wait for march update?? Sigh.
My wife's device too, same issue.
You mean you don't see an OTA update option? If so just wait a few days, it gets rolled out in batches. You are just unlucky.

Xiaomi stoped the release
Sent from my OnePlus 5T using Tapatalk
Ah.
So there are no updates for people that are on January, then?
Have you got some links where I can read about the stopped distribution, please?
Xiaomi has a weird habit of randomly cancelling released updates. Has done that before, will do that again. Chill out and just wait. And never buy anything based on Android One from them ever again - this company treats the MI A1 as an unwanted child. The February security update still has no official changelog 10 days after release.

I understand. Thanks for explaining me that.
Yep, I have 2 A1's, one for me and one for my wife, and neither has gotten the February update. I've asked Xiaomi about it through 2 FB groups, through the Feedback app and through email to their global support. I have not received an answer from any of those avenues: nada...crickets.
Honestly, I would rather a company pull the update than continue to distribute ones with major issues, but the total lack of communication is disheartening. I think the A1 is by far the best price/performance phone I've ever owned, and had high hopes of Xiaomi being my new 'goto' manufacturer. That is in jeopardy if they continue to step all over the whole idea of Android One and continue doing things without communicating why those things are needed. In the case of Android phones, no news is NOT good news! I will give them some slack, for a while, because the A1 is what, 6 months old? and it is their first Android One phone, so maybe it takes a bit for the need to 'do it right' to trickle down to the devs and working stiffs in the company. But that is only possible if it comes from upper management, and that is communicated by them. So far, all I've really seen in such communication is MIUI, which is a total no go for me. Get your stuff together Xiaomi. You've built a nice base of customers who might never have bought your products with the Mi A1. If you leave them high and dry, you will lose them just as quickly!
It's a nice phone indeed. But based on my experience, I wouldn't count on them communicating with users about software updates.

Considering a total lack of communications in regard to the MI A1, I am not buying anything from Xiaomi ever again.
For six months since its release:
We haven't had a single official announcement about the MI A1 development process
We haven't seen a single official changelog (MIUI forums is not the right place for changelogs - Xiaomi's own website is). Some updates have been published without any changelogs whatsoever, e.g. the last one
We haven't been notified even once about updates being revoked (and it has happened at least four times already)
We haven't seen a single comment in regard to its bugs. All feature requests have been rejected by the MIUI forums moderators.
The MI A1 is not fully Android 8 compatible: no camera2API, no Project Treble support
It has extremely horrible low light camera performance
Updates are randomly delayed
Clearly this company couldn't care less about the MI A1.

The page you linked provides an excellent summary of issues. Thanks for that. :good: I agree with you that perhaps the MIUI forums are not the best place for A1 bug tracking though, and it would be nice if Xiaomi actually paid attention to customers and provided a place for updates and feedback. Unfortunately, many users create their own issues, then scream loudly for the manufacturer to 'fix' an issue they created, or just plain complain incessantly about the lack of 'features' that were never part of the deal to begin with, and this may lead manufacturers to be less inclined to offer interactive tools.
While my A1's do not have a number of those issues, it does point to the fact that the A1 environment is varied, probably due to different software combinations from the many different locals it is sold in. Hopefully Xiaomi will get it's stuff together and provide some answers. Continuing to ignore customers is never a good solution. It also points out that if I want some features Xiaomi has neglected (EIS and Camera2 API), I am going to have to root the phone, which I was hoping to avoid.
So far, the update experience with the A1 has not been slooth, and I am a bit worried that the update to P may not happen at all, or be very painful if it does. While I won't go as far as to say I won't buy any more Xiaomi products, if another company comes along that offers excellent price/performance and does a decent job at communication and updates, it will certainly be on my radar.

I'm a bit fed up about Xiaomi. But I'm very satisfied about my device.
I've got Samsung S2, S4, S7 and now Mi A1.
And I can tell you: I'm good with my choice.
I can buy a Xiaomi Device EVERY YEAR with some money I've spent with Samsung. And I love Samsung. But I've been waiting for Oreo for several months.
Mi A1 lacks NFC, I hope my next phone will have it onboard.

L04C567B396 appeared on FF

Today, L04C567B396 appeared on FF, the third update in a month time with no approval for installation for the earlier B394 so far.
With this updae comes two additions and one improvement to the EMUI features plus a new June google security patch.
Again, with this update a hope of eminent EMUI 8 (Oreo) is lost at least for a couple of months if not impossible any time soon in my opinion.
Let's hope that my guess is wrong.
Tell me what do you think in the comments below.
Anyways here's the B396 changelog:
This update reduces Phone Manager's cleanup time to less than one minute, and adds more scenarios to support the one-touch split-screen feature.
[Dual windows]
Adds a button in the Recent apps cards. Touch it to split the screen. This operation is only available for apps that support the split-screen feature.
[System]
Optimizes Phone Manager's cleanup speed and scope. A single cleanup can now be completed in less than one minute.
Optimizes data usage management by allowing you to specify the start date of your data plan.
[Call]
Optimizes Quick calling by enabling speaker mode by default. Press and hold the volume down button to enable Quick calling.
[Security]
Integrates Google security patches released in Jun 2018 for improved system security.

Update 1: Honor skipped B394 to B395 and stated seeding.

Who cares? By the time it's approved it'll be end of July possibly August. Chris (head Dev at honor USA) says they have no control over when it gets approved. We are getting Oreo, and he's getting responses from the beta group about the bootloader issue to give to the higher ups.

I was thinking the same.
Honor support told me we would get it 'very soon' 2 months ago and its likely another two months if they have only just started alpha/beta testing.
Not sure I agree that is 'very soon'.
Personally I'd prefer lineageos so we get future support, but haven't read the other threads to understand why dev support is limited.
Perhaps 'Chris' can release the kernel source for Oreo on the Honor 8, so others can start development in parallel with Honor, or release the camera blobs or whatever is stopping the camera's working.
I think we better stop creating new threads for each patch for specific model .,. its getting really boring.,., i myself created several threads for the patches but no charm now.., especially after oreo in tow..,
admins if we could join all the threads under patch update.,

This is the reason for me to throw this garbage away. Without 8.1 I'm not able to listen to BT music in my company's cars and on one of my speakers because of AVRCP 1.6. Google messed it up but fixed it with 8.1 - Huawei won't update the P10 to 8.1 and if they will do an update to 9.0 is also doubtful.
But as they said to the missing unlock code providing:
"We want to provide a better user experience"...well f*ck it Huawei.

To give more money to Huawei so say can produce more **** like this?
The hardware is great but Huawei does a crappy job with their software - no third party integration, no frequent updates, no unlocking, no theming.....
I switched from Apple to get more freedom but what I got an Android system with good features on the one hand but on the other hand completely locked OEM software.

I have update every month and i have themes. Freedom on Huawei devices you cannot find if you dont have unlocking bootloader. On my P10 i have freedom on new P20 freedom goodbay ?
Software is stable and fast, good batery life and simillar but like you say is kinda a locked like Apple IOS. For me now MIUI (Xiaomi) have better software than EMUI (Huawei)

Xiaomi will be my next phone if OnePlus won't make a smaller device. Themes on EMUI aren't as complete as substratum themes. The only thing I like is that you can set global app themes which are showing in sharing menus, settings and co.
But you can't install a third party DSP on EMUI and Xposed is also a very huge risk.

I have locked bootloader on my P10 and i have themes and monthly updates.
My wife has a P20 pro and has locked bootloade ralso. She has monthly updates and many themes.
Where did you get the info you dont have freedom on your P20?
What do you profit with unlocked bootloader (except custom roms, which are working sometimes and sometimes not)? I had unlocked bootloader , i had root but unrooting and rooting the device every month when a OTA comes or spend time to sideload the OTA and praying that my device don ´t get bricked are over. I am happy with the camera, performance, battery life..so on my side no need to root anymore.
When i want to play i pick up my google pixel XL (and next month pixel 3 ).
Version 379 is now releaded....gpu turbo version
Which game can i play on it? For example?
Hi @freeacer how can I install it from firmware finder?
You must waiting for approve, Huawei servers are under encryption and we must waiting for OTA via system update
Is there any custom rom that contains the gpu turbo path?

Will The OnePlus 9 Pro Be A Major Upgrade Over The 8 Pro (Apart From SD 875) ?

Particularly in terms of front & back camera(s) performances ?
Also:
- What improvements would you like to see in OxygenOS ?
Cameras, screen and battery are the only improvements that can be had, perhaps audio.
Every other box has been ticked.
Storage
Size
Performance
Ram
Aesthetics
Are all perfect
Cameras, battery and audio are also really top notch so I wouldn't expect anything ground breaking.
We're approaching a stage where things can't progress at the rate they once did.
For me I would only make the battery larger but that's just nitpicking.
(See screenshot)
Waterproofing is here as Is superb wireless charging and reverse charging.
In regards to the OS id like to see no features removed, only made optional.
Screen off animations, OS size changes, static icon alterations like the status bar clock and signal icons, they should be fully themeable, which you can see from the screen shot I've already changed on mine.
I don't think major, but a progression... Further aod features, battery improvements, etc....
I think that Samsung have moved the game on by producing a folding handset, and that everybody else will eventually need to move into that space if they want to keep selling phones.
Sure it's still going through some teething issues (and the app market hasn't caught up yet), and I can't imagine that the 9 Pro will be folding, but I'd expect that the 10 Pro or 11 Pro will be.

Folds are a phase, an expensive one.

Folding screens are a whole different ballgame to the antediluvian technology that was the Startac.
Who wouldn't want a phone that folds down to half (or less) of its normal use size when you put it in your pocket, especially as the screens get thinner and lighter, and the software evolves to make use of the form factor.
The technology still has a little way to go, but in the not-too-distant future all handsets will have foldable screens.

No dude, I know.
Point I'm trying to make is, every person who had an ounce of taste had a startac.
Only people who'll buy a folding device are people who don't know their phones or someone who blindly buys the latest gadgets.
The processors in those phones are pants as are the batteries, look at the Motorola flip?
The technology is a non starter.
I'll never change my mind on that, if they sell as much as the startac did then I'll admit I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

I am changing the subject on you. I should have created a new thread, but I am not sure if you would see it in that case.
After waiting a month, I still haven't received my OnePlus 8 Pro. Do *NOT* ever buy anything from Bludiode.com. It is a scam. These guys claim Covid-19 is delaying the clearance of my payment. A virus can slow down electronic payment for a month?! I already called my credit card company to dispute it and got my money back. Since they do charge a 2 . 9% service charge to use a credit card, I assume those who do a bank transfer from their checking account to avoid this charge are their real victims. Anyway, I digress.
Since I don't have a OnePlus 8 Pro in my hand yet, I have a new concern before I buy it again. Does it have a boot-up (NOT lockscreen) password? I just learned that through a custom recovery like TWRP, one can always delete the locksettings.db and/or other similar files to erase the lockscreen password. Further, since TWRP has a built-in file manager, even if an attacker doesn't reboot to system, he can simply browse in TWRP.
TWRP doesn't officially support a password, and I can understand why because it's futile. An attacker can simply flash a fresh TWRP through download mode anyway to wipe out the existing password.
The only way to prevent an attacker from stealing my private info is to
1. encrypt the internal memory, or
2. unroot the phone and lock the bootloader so that a custom recovery cannot be installed, or
3. the device has a boot-up password.
Neither #1 or 2 would work for me. That leaves only #3.
Can you please confirm if OnePlus 8 Pro supports boot-up password?
By the way, if the upcoming upgrades in the 9 Pro would be marginal, I may just wait till the 9 Pro comes out and then buy the 8 Pro on the cheap. What time of the year does OnePlus usually release a new phone?
Thank you

You'd need the password to obtain data access to that part of the system, as in it has to decrypt.
They just released the 8T so in six months the 9 will be out.
That sucks about that place.
Did you get your money back??
after owning 4 op phones in between other flagships from other companies just for the love of op this op8 pro will be the last i buy from op. even cyanogen dint have this kinda bugs back in the day lol. if this is what they call a stable os moving forward. they are now more concerned about pushing mid range phones to get a slice of the market share that what people came to love about them like software smoothness is just purely ****. like the word **** is being nice at this point. i hope things change moving forward but this isnt going well for them at all
