Hi! I originally posted this question in the Android Auto section- however its not really related to Android Auto since its more about networking - or internet sharing capability of android.
If I connect a "car-stick" such as https://www.onlineshop-skoda.de/index.php/carstick.html, the car (a Skoda Kodiaq) should be able to provide a wifi-hotspot.
I could simply enable internet sharing using my Samsung S9, but I guess the signal would be better if the cars built in wifi-hotspot capability was used.
The phone is connected via USB to the car.
Could the phone be configured in some way which would enable it to present the type of network interfaces similar to what the earlier mentioned car-stick presents?

Your question is 100% not clear.
A recent broadband dongle is just a cellular phone w/o keyboard and display that shares the connection via USB networking.
Practically the same thing that an android Phone does when you enable the USB tethering.
The only relevant difference is that the former does that by default, while the latter requires a manual input.
BTW you can automate the usb tethering using tasker or some dedicated apps available on the store

hello
i want to ask if it excist a program which connects bluetooth to wlan. because i know that for nokia serie 60 they where so a program.
if you know sometihning please answer.
and i am sorry for my bad english
Bluetooth and Wireless lan are 2 completely different things. They operate of different frequencies and at different speeds.
Physically, there is no way to do this, and on the Nokias they may have a wireless lan card in it?
no on nokia there is a program which let bluetooth connect to wlan. its works also on old models like 3650.
so i want to know if the same method will works with magican or if they are a program which makes that
These is part of the specs for the 3650 from Nokia's website:
Wireless Connectivity
* Infrared
* Bluetooth
* Connect phone wirelessly to a compatible phone or a compatible PC
* Send/receive pictures, video clips, and graphics
* Play games
If your are refering to the 3rd option, the phone can connect wirelessly to a compatible PC via BT or IR and not via WLAN using Nokia's PC Suite software. One can then surf the web, check emails, etc using the phone as long as the PC is connected to either via LAN or WLAN. This is also possible with a Magician.
As "eliosfa" said, these are totally 2 different technologies. It's like remote controls, there is the IR (mostly found in entertainment equipment) and RF (commonly used in garage doors).
no you dont understand me
this program excists. my friend try it on his nokia 3650 and it works very good so i have thought that it also will give a programm for magican
do you no something ??
let me know
what i understand from your statement that your friend has a 3650, via the phones bluetooth he connects to his pc via a wlan? my friend, that's totally impossible.
in any case, assuming what you say is true, can you tell us the name of the software/program your friend is using in his 3650? what are steps/procedures/settings used?
that is exactly what i would like to know, given that fact that they are 2 completely different technologies...
Actually, both bluetooth and wifi operate at the same 2.4GHz frequence. But they are completely different protocol, and there is no way for them talk to each other.
Someone explain quite well here:
http://www.bluejackq.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=3258
about the wireless internet
mayb what he's talking about is that his friend connects to the computer via bluetooth n the computer is further connected via wlan which enables his friend to connect to the internet overe bluetooth.....it probabaly creates a serial connection over bluetooth
I think you mean the PAN profile. Just search in this Forum. Look for "PAN" or "Bluesoleil"

This is a shot in the dark, but has anyone heard of anyone who got the mogul to work as an access point? Basically, use the evdo radio to connect to the internet, and use the wireless connection, either as an adhoc connection, or preferably as a full on access point with wpa2 to share to a laptop, other devices, etc. To better describe this, you can kind of do it with a laptop:
1. connect phone via ics or dun to laptop.
2. in windows, enable ics and create ah-hoc network with encryption.
3. Other laptop connects to windows laptop, gets wireless connection and is effectively using the phone as an access point.
Even better
1. Connect phone via dun to linux laptop.
2. Linux laptop (using madwifi driver or other open source) broadcasts access point settiings and works as a full on access point.
Scenario:
I want to be able to connect my mogul to my n800. I can do that now with DUN, but what if I want to use my bluetooth headphones, or the bluetooth keyboard that I haven't bought yet? Bluetooth only allows one connection at a time, so I'm SOL. If I could get my stupid mogul to work as an access point, then I could share my connection with any wireless device (how sick would that be) and reserve bluetooth for what I wanted to really do with it, not just browsing the net. Don't get me wrong, I love that I can even sync via bluetooth, but am just looking to expand the possibilties. Unfortunately, since this is WM6, I have no idea how to really work the SDK to see if network bridging is possible. If this were a Linux phone I'd probably be done already. =(
search for socks proxy.
it doesn't work that well, but it does work..

Ummm... I'm not sure what you are basing your Bluetooth information on, but the BT specification allows for up to 8 concurrent connections at once- one master devices and 7 slaves. Why do you think its only one at a time?
I use multiple connections all the time- Very often I have my phone connected to my bluetooth GPS receiver in the car, and at the same time I'm playing tunes from the same phone over my A2DP compatible car stereo... or, take a phone call on my BT headset, and all the while I'm still connected to the GPS who is still tracking my location using bluetooth. I can tell the person where I am in real-time.
I've also had someone send me a file while talking on the phone via BT headset.
You don't need such a complicated solution for your imagined problem! I don't see any reason you can't tether it and still connect to up to 7 more Bluetooth devices at the same time!
Still, using it as an access point might prove useful for other sorts of scenarios (teleconnected mobile Lan parties? WiFi on a Bus? The incredible moving hotspot?), but you don't need it... at least not for your described scenario!
Basides, you'll get better battery life out of your connected devices if just using BT instead of WiFi!
Hi,
I've been trying to connect my A70 to my HTC Hero for internet tethering but it just doesn't work.
I've tried the following methods
1. USB
2. Bluetooth
3. wireless tethering (android wifi tethering)
num 1 doesn't detect my phone at all, num 2 can be paired as through BT but can't tether and for num 3, my A70 can't detect my HTC Hero as a hotspot, it can detect all others ard it but just not my HTC Hero.
I have another issue with connecting my thumbdrive and external card reader through the micro USB port.
I have a host adapter bought through ebay and i tried connecting my thumbdrive and card reader but there's no reaction from the A70 at all. my card reader has a LED light to indicate whether there's power and it was lit up when connected but the A70 just doesn't read it.
I've tried another way which is to connect a external HDD whcih i used a Y-cable and connected the other end to a power source to ensure there's enough power but again the A70 doesn't pickup anything.
I'm really getting frustrated with these issues cause these 2 features were the selling point to me when i bought the A70 and now i can't use it.
Appreciate if someone can shed some light on this.
thanks
For the USB issues, you may be using the wrong cable. You need to use a USB host cable in order to read a thumb drive or to use an Android (or other) phone's USB tether. The cord that comes with the A70 is a MicroUSB B connector; you need a MicroUSB A.
As far as the WiFi hotspot on your Hero, does the hero do only ad hoc WiFi? I know the Droid 1 does. You cannot (at this point, without rooting and rearranging some code) hook the Archos up to an ad hoc WiFi.
For bluetooth, you need to use Wireless Tether on your Android handset, but you have to have the app set for bluetooth. Get that set, pair the devices, and start the bluetooth tether on your Hero. Then, go into the Archos menu under Cell Phone Tethering and choose your Hero (should be under available devices). Hit tether and you're good to go.

...maybe. I have a rooted HTC Incredible with Wireless Tether installed. A70 works great with wifi (which is the better option anyway), but will not tether with bluetooth. It will pair, but the phone doesn't show up as an available device in the A70 tethering setup. There may be another bluetooth tether phone app that will work with my Inc, but Wireless Tether does not. There is even a disclaimer in the app about incompatibility with some phones.
I'm working to develop an application to use a rooted Nook STR as a handheld data input platform, which then sends the data to another Android device (tablet or phone; TBD) acting as a hub. From what I've been able to determine, the options for communications between the devices are:
Bluetooth
-Possibly available using a dongle, USB OTG cable, and enabling USB host mode as described here. This doesn't seem practical within the time/budget/scale of our application.
Wi-Fi
-Wi-Fi Direct would be ideal, but requires either Android 4.x or a patch/hack to enable it, which I haven't seen anyone working on (correct me if I'm wrong about this)
-Separate Wi-Fi hub to manage communications between the devices
Is there an alternative, implementable within reasonable time and cost, to facilitate device-to-device communications wirelessly and without additional separate hardware? My research hasn't turned up any solutions that aren't extremely awkward, but I'm relatively new to this, so hopefully someone has a better idea or knows of an obvious possibility that I'm missing.
Hi everyone.
A few months ago I got a custom android unit to fit my car (Ford Falcon 2013). I'm new to the Android Headunit scene and I am not sure the best way to get my hotspot from my phone to my headunit. I'm also not sure what software my headunit is running, hoping someone can help me figure that out. I've seen terms like MTCB and pumkpin but not sure what mine is, since its a small company in Melbourne AU.
I can setup a wifi hotspot from my phone in tasker when the bluetooth connects, but was hoping there was another way so that the battery doesn't drain.
I have tried bluetooth hotspot but that doesn't seem to work as the headunit doesn't use the normal android bluetooth settings, it uses its own thing, im not sure.
USB hotspot also doesnt seem to work as it just triggers Headunit Reloaded (AA).
The other thing I was thinking was getting a cheap data plan just for the headunit, but i'm not sure if the 4G USBs will be compatible with the headunit? Never tried one on an android device before.
Worst case I can just setup a wifi hotspot through tasker, but hoping someone will have some insights for me.
Thanks in advance!
I struggled with this a bit myself when I first got an android head unit. Basically, Bluetooth or USB tethering don't work without using a third party app like PDAnet, which wasn't as seamless as I liked. Using a USB hotspot wouldn't allow you to use it directly via the USB, you'll have to connect to the hotspot over wifi as well.
It was cheaper to for me to just add more data to my cell phone plan and just hotspot through that, then getting a dedicated hotspot for the car with its own plan. Now the question is why is your phone draining while your tethering? Are you not plugging it into the USB ports on the head unit itself? The ports on the head unit don't provide enough power to charge the phone while tethering so I just use a regular cigarette lighter to charge the phone while tethering
You can try using nfc chip or sticker (on the phone holder for example)
Personally what i did is to buy a regular cell plan (all inclusive, was cheaper then "data" plan) with 2 sim cards (one for the headunit and one for my ipad)
Comnected a 4g wifi usb stick and using it wirelessly (i wish my mtce system could identify the stick as a modem) but it does the job and i can save my personal data plan by using the cars wifi
