I have a A2017G and am currently running RR Nougat (unofficial one from @genesixxbf3). I use double sim (+SD card) and also use encryption and a dark theme through Substratum. I run nanodroid via magisk (also rooted via magisk) and no Gapps. I like to update every quarter or so in order to have the latest security patches. I am having issues with mobile data not working after going into flight mode (this is my main problem) or even at random and a few infrequent reboots. I have been waiting for Oreo but it seems that has become very uncertain.
Question: which OS should I run so that I can still have double sim, encryption and preferably a dark theme. I might consider using XPrivacyLua to keep google at bay instead of microG. I am tired of losing my data connection. What should I do? I can see some options:
a. go back to stock Nougat,
b. go to the beta stock Oreo 8.0
c. go to standard LineageOS 14.1
What would be the right move to make? Are there any others to consider?
Thx for any feedback.
LOS 15 is coming out very shortly apparently. Maybe just wait out for that since it should be here during the next couple of days (Although it could also not, depends on if they end up having problems with the release). I would regardless still wait for its release and then make a decision .

I highly doubt it. I think he means the Oreo beta for the chinese A2017, that has been out for a while.

It's around though. Not leaked because nobody wants to have trouble with ZTE, but we're using it and some people are making a ROM out of it

B12 U beta. Supposedly it had battery problems so they made B14/15 (or 13, can't remember) but it actually works like a charm and there's no MiFavor anywhere to be seen.
The only problems I've seen are basically again ZTE engineers being themselves... The navbar and quick settings/notifications shade are completely Oreo AOSP, but they seem to be implemented in a weird way and Subs can't theme them.
As of battery I'm getting 4h SOT @ 2300 mAh batt, and Fairpark akt profile

Well, that only leaves me wanting it more, ahah. I'm a "purist". I hate Nougat B10, my battery life has gone to **** and my phone is only 6 months old. Couldn't care less about warranty since this is a 150$ phone on eBay now so I'm just waiting for something good to move to.

This whole lack of dual SIM on Oreo ROMs is a complete roadblock to even trying any of them. I won't bother with any Nougat ROMs either. Mine will stay stock Nougat unless we end up with either official Oreo or a properly functional and reliable custom based on it.

What i am wondering about tho since the last few days is why not anyone who has the latest beta version, creates a new anonymous account and leaks it that way.
I mean im still patient and wait for a final statement from zte, even though its unlikely that things will get better when reading the recent news.
But isn't it like super easy to get away with leaking it like that? Or do each update packages have unique ID's in them that would reveal who leaked it?

You don't even know what I'm talking about lol. Someone sent it to other person, then he leaked it on a small group, then I got it. I asked about a week ago or two whether it'd be okay to leak it already (and I said that I would do it if nobody else wanted to) and they basically said no

Nah it's okay, I got the joke anyways, but I think it belongs more to the guy that leaked it than to ZTE now. I don't know if beta ROMs have any identifier to know who leaked it.

And ZTE has way bigger problems to deal with than chasing someone that leaks a firmware update. That makes customers happier thus releasing pressure from them.

It is pretty good, I can confirm that logcat dos not show any errors. There does not seem to be an autobrightness issue. However, I do not like the design..

No, I use the sense version. It has some bugs but for me it is acceptable (you wont find a perfect asop).
I just had one bug where I needed to take out battery (I could not unlock the screen although phone was still alive).
I installed this with the flashtool. It seems okay, and the interface (bog-standard Android?) is more familiar (to me at least) than the Miui interface.
Problems so far:
* seems not to support 5G WiFi (the Xiaomi ROMs support 5G WiFi) [Edit: miraculously, 5G WiFi is now working! ]
* battery percentage not shown
* can't see the patterns that you are drawing, if you are trying to protect the lock screen with a pattern
* my antivirus program doesn't like any of the themes apks that the Theme Manager is downloading (perhaps these are false positives - but I happen to trust my antivirus program)

Yes, pattern unlock is a bit tricky, you need to draw an invisible pattern before Smart Lock becomes available. Then there is an option to make the pattern visible. Maybe proceed with caution

Here are excerpts from comments I posted about the rom in another forum:
"A couple of days ago, I noticed the new Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Cinafoniaci AOSP Rom on Needrom. It took my interest because the creator, Simone Quarrera is also the developer of Space MTK Tool [project to update MTK Droid Tools for 64 bit devices].
I have been using the rom for a day plus & so far it is excellent. I am most impressed that the latest version of Xposed Installer ran immediately without issue. Last week, I tried AOSP Rom V3 by MD Steam, but Xposed wouldn't work, so I quickly abandoned it. I was resigned to staying with Miui & waiting for WSM Tools [Xposed alternative] to be updated to Miui 7. But now, I am happy to be back in familiar aosp territory. I like some things about Miui, e.g. beautiful themes and the stock apps, camera, compass & browser [smooth flash player]. I have made a custom backup of my last miui rom, so can go back & compare some time.
On first boot, the rom gives the option of retaining apps & settings from the previously installed rom. I didn't choose this option, preferring Titanium Backup to set up. Here are some features of the rom:
Material TWRP 2.8.7
Mobile Space Tool – includes Xposed, SuperSU, ADBD Insecure, Eng. Mode, Cpu Freq, Viper4 Android FX, Custom Themes
Stock Launcher is similar to Nova/Apex but with less options & can be coupled with the rom's themes
Miravision & ClearMotion
OTA updates – work in progress, I think
Notification leds working, but are not included in System Settings. A third party app is necessary. I am using Light Manager.
Battery life seems similar to Miui 7. Here is a screenshot of screen on time with battery at 57%:"

I think the developer will appreciate any feedback on bugs. Probably, the best place for this is Needrom [unless you're able to post in the Italian forum].
By the way, I don't use a screen lock, so pattern unlock is not an issue for me....
I am really happy with this rom & will likely stay with it. When I have time, I will under clock to see if battery life is extended. On miui 7 v. 5.11.1, I under clocked to 1.625 Ghz as the phone felt hot in the hand [I live in a hot climate]. I was surprised to see that on screen time life extended way beyond 6 hours [note: not 'normal' conditions, i.e. at home, wifi on, mobile data/gps/bluetooth disabled; ds battery saver to limit wake locks ]. Under clocked, the PC Mark Battery Life Test result was 6 hours 56 minutes [average for RN2 is 6 hours 4 minutes]. For me, under clocking didn't affect performance on the miui rom. Edit: Under clocked to 1.625 ghz → some lag in task switching/opening apps, no improvement in battery life.
@kusala thank you so much for your review
I was thinking about trying aosp too, mainly because of xposed and because some things of miui need to be improved yet in my opinion
However I need to decide between this and delirium proyect, maybe I'll try both. Did you try that one?
On the other hand, just for curious why are you so xposed dependant? Which modules do you need more?
And...anyone has a reliable zip for recovery of cinafoniaci?
Thanks

I haven't tried Delirium. The reason I flashed the Cinafoniaci rom is because I have seen other work by the developer & have confidence in his ability. If you contact Simone via Needrom with a request for a custom zipped rom, he may be able to help. I made a custom backup of my last miui rom, so wasn't concerned about using sp flash tool.
Re xposed, I currently have 13 modules installed. The ones most useful are Gravity Box [so many options], RecentApp Clear [improves recent apps in the Cina rom], Fix Lollipop Memory Leak, YouTube AdaAway & Xposed Torch [vol up activates torch when screen off].

I would suggest starting out with CM simply because the devs are very popular, reliable and I personally have a friend who is amazing with Android who tried many roms. His favorite is CM. I am considering installing it myself. Just doing research like you are. Extra feedback is welcome.
I also think CM13.0 (Team Superluminal) is the way to go at the moment.
I'm using it on my LEX720 and i've had zero problems so far.
With the last ROM cm-13.0-20161226-TS-le_zl1, There are 2 problems ( in the site teamsuperlumina ):
1) dual SIM
2) NFC Does not work
FOR ME THE BEST ROM IS "GROSSOSHOP-X720_LEECO_LEPRO3_20S", zero problem, Works better than the original.
hy people do not talk about "GROSSOSHOP", on XDA ?
Stock gets my vote, with or without root. Battery life is crazy, currently have over 11.5hrs SOT, 40hrs uptime, and about 18% remaining (only charged to 90%, not 100). This was achieved over WiFi + 2G/LTE + Wi-Fi calling. I'm considering rooting in order to freeze the LeEco junk, but I also want to see if the performance cluster of the 820 can be disabled.
You are right ace42, But I use the ROM grossoshop for 3 days and, The battery is still 30%.
The battery of the leeco pro 3 and really good with the stock ROM and the grossoshop ROM.
But, I still have to test the ROM "TARS_20s_by_Steve_Mars_Final_Version".

Also works just fine for me to pair with my sony bluetooth headphones. Team SuperLuminal's cm13 rom get's my vote, at least for the time being its the best cm13 based rom. The stock rom has "great battery life" at the expense of hackish battery saving. I had lots of issues with notifications, and then with the power saving junk turned off, my battery life became about the same as the cm13 rom, which is well over a day even with heavy use. With a ~4000 mah battery and the newest 14nm processor there shouldn't be a need for the "battery saving" features in the stock rom.

I haven't had any notification issues. Telegram, kik, SMS/MMS, and Skype messages are all received. I can't speak on Whatsapp since it's not as popular in the states, most people I know rely on SMS here, but outside of the US people like Whatsapp, Line, and so on. And more battery is always welcomed, which is why battery assistant is great. Having a large battery doesn't mean its runtime suddenly becomes irrelevant, my G2 used to get around 6-8hrs, so I'm happy to finally have a new device that could best it. Even if I were to buy a new notebook/tab with Kaby Lake I'd still try to squeeze just a little more juice out of its battery.
I don't know about you, but I tend to forget to charge my devices, as I also carry my laptop, another phone, and bluetooth earphones with me. Battery saving techniques (incl agg doze or amplify) can save you in situations where you might not be able to charge.

Yes
I flashed this two roms:
- T.A.R.S. 5.9.20s by Steve Mars Final Version
- And Grossoshop from this link: https://mega.nz/#!tUkUQJwZ!h3tniWVWlSiYJICadW7MuEdYLDFKfNmNcEOBQ-eL1JM
I like Steve Mars rom, my phone is few days old so I came from stock rom 5.8.0.18S I can see the difference in the Steve rom it's better. Grossoshop also work you gotta try it for yourself.
Happy new years and Cheers
I am, by no means, a developer nor programmer but I understand the concept. I have a theoretical question just based on looking at the specs of these phones.
The ZE552KL (ZenFone 3) and ZE553KL (ZenFone 3 Zoom) are both nearly twins. There's a few things that differ, but they're running the same chipset (thus same CPU, Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 MSM8953), same graphics (Adreno 506).
The differences are the screen resolutions, camera resolutions, WiFi chip (Zoom has no 5GHz support?), SIM 2 supports more bands on the Zoom.
I own the Zoom and I'm shocked that there's no Lineage OS for it, but I was scratching my head on a couple of theories.
The question I have is ... would the Lineage OS 14.1 ROM for the ZE552KL work on the ZE553KL? Has anybody tried this?
Thanks, in advance, to anybody who responds.
I own a zoom as well and I'd really appreciate a Lineage rom for this.
I would like to know as well!

My guess would be that those differences are just enough to preclude the ZE552KL Lineage ROM from working with our devices.
On the plus side (I hope) maybe those differences are easy to overcome and some willing dev will attempt to do so.
Please..!
Would very much appreciate this as well!!!
We could always do a little fundraiser to pay a developper to do the work for us?
Hardware wise the phones are damn near identical, so there shouldn't be much of an issue porting over Lineage. The only hiccup would be getting the secondary camera to work I'd imagine, but that's not a big deal.
The real issue isn't technical, it's just that the phone doesn't seem popular enough for any developer interest sadly.

Sadly I can't
I haven't got the ZE553KL and the time to support another phone...
ZE553KL is (was) by far the best Phone/Camera in mid-range budget.
As anything Asus, it suck because of software.
Its like dev never actually read reviews. 2000 ROM for a self-burning 900USD Samsung and none for this fine device.
Its just unfair.
Well, I've bought the Zoom phone recently and I can agree with what was said:
- Great hardware
- Crappy software
Seeing there are no usable custom ROMs mean I'll most likely return the phone :-/

Oh that's too bad. There's a similar thread regarding the lack of custom ROMs too so I'll ask you the same question: What is it that you're finding with the software that you feel would be solved with a custom ROM? Not trying to be argumentative, just genuinely curious.

Hi koimr!
Strange, I was sure I already replied your question, but it seems the reply was not saved... Anyway I miss the possibility to display the soft buttons and customise the LED notifications and generally I feel like there are not many things to customise.
But I wonder if anybody actually tried to install a Zenfone 3 custom ROM on Zenfone 3 zoom...
(Hope I'll visit Canada some day )

Hi there Biges,
To give an answer to your question, someone already tried flashing lineage os from the zenfone 3 to their zenfone 3 zoom in the past (that thread is gone now) and it hard bricked their device. Wasn't able to recover from it sadly.
Other than that, you may look forward for it to arrive sometime in the future

You're only getting a 4-6h SOT? I don't own the phone anymore but with my extensive use, I would only charge the phone once by 2 days. My phone was root, I was using magisk and greenify, nothing too fancy. Listening to music all day, always browsing the web or facebook, instagram, messenger, webtoons, etc and I was getting a good 2 days use.
I simply wanted more customization and an os closer to the stock android which is why CM / Lineage OS was a good pick for me.
Although I now own a Huawei P20 due to my AZ3Z screen broke because of a 2 feets fall... (approximately 60cm fall) so that demand doesn't apply to me anymore. I still sometimes miss my az3z, good phone!

Well that is the case after OREO 8.0.0 update, i didn't begin modifying the phone myself because i'm on hold for the upcoming Lineage 15.1 ROM that a developer (KEVEN) is working on so i'm still in hope mode, i knew that 2.5D glass is a weak engineering so screen protector and armored metal case was crucial since day 1.
Hi There,
i'm new here, in fact this is my very first post in here, i have been an outside observer, i have found solution to problems in this site and helped me helping friends, and i'm grateful,
but today i come with a more of a personal question, i'm kind of a newbie, but i have always found my way around things, by either trying, or following tutorials on the internet, expect this problem.
I own a Nova 3i, it is written on the box, and my phone has all the Nova 3i specs, expect it is not a Nova 3i, it is an Huawei P Smart+ as it's model is INE-LX1, and i have been trying to update it to Pie, but no luck, all Nova 3i Posts are either talking about INE-LX2 or some other models starting with INE.
First of all, i always had to use the Hisuite app on Windows to update my Phone, as the builtin update option never detects the update even after trying for a quite few times and even after endless reboots, but that's not why i'm here.
I have found this app (Thank to XDA Forum) Frimware Finder for Huawei, and it detect that my model is INE-LX1C185, i checked all available updates, but i always end up with the "The Frimware is not approved for installation" message.
This is frustration, and it is kind of sad.
so is there a way to get the Pie update for my model or not?

It looks like to be your device running pie, you could possibly contact the uploader about it.
Post your results for others if you have success.

Never knew about Project treble until now, i have done some research, and it seems that you are correct it is supported, first i wanted to tell you that, i got a reply from the video uploaded informing me he can't share anything, second, from what i understand is it possible to install other android pie roms to my INE-LX1 ?
one last thing to mention, while INE-LX1 the P Smart+ supposed to have 64GB storage, my device have 128GB, yet it is an INE-LX1 which is frustrating...
I have LNE-LX1 too and didn't get the update, I'm from tunisia. LNE-LX2 users got pie long ago :/ .
LNE-LX1 users in pakistan got the official pie update today so I guess it'll reach everyone else really soon ^^ .

Yeah I'd say possible, it looks like a different format that I've seen so far, I've only had a glance but would be similar in a way to most I'd say.
The hardware is probably in most ways identical.
Some models of the nova 3i come with 64Gb storage over here too but I think only the 128Gb model is now available.
Do you have 6Gb of RAM or only 4Gb too?
I haven't received the Pie update either just yet, so in the same boat. Everyone that has a different country code or what not has an older version number than the one available to me on the non-official huawei firmware app so I think it's slowly going on a kind of testing phase as it's released.

hi There, my device is the 4Gb and 128 Storage model.
i actually received the Pie update few days ago, and just now(a few minutes ago) i received another update.
Few things to mention, even tho my device is somewhat new(only fews months old) i have been using the Orio for quite sometime, enough to get things into perspective and come up with a full opinion, here's a few things i noticed after/before/while updating:
While the update itself from Orio to pie was actually very very fast, updating from 9.0.1.156 to 9.0.1.162 took longer.
now to the differences between pie and Orio:
Pie is faster, like real faster, loading times, battery lifetime, responsiveness, app launching...
- Going into gallery used to take a while to load the pictures and you can see the photos loading while you scrolling, now with pie, it is instant like almost.
- Navigating system setting is considerably faster, (i have disabled all timing relation animation from the developer options in both version for testing purposes), while with Orio when you click a setting, there is a noticeable lag time, like you can feel it took a second to load, now with Pie you click and it just opens.
- Going into setting>apps, Orio, it takes a few seconds to load the app list, Now almost instantly.
- Overall device responsiveness is way better, as if it anticipating my moves, especially when navigation the main menu.
- Better gaming experiences, less frame drops, well not less, there is none anymore, as far as i can tell in my cases.
- Better battery life time.
- With Orio, there was some visual glitches, here and there, not always but sometime you can see it, now with Pie it is butter smooth, and consistent, iOS level.
- More clean and smooth Task manager or bar.
- and last but not least, it might be me, but the Camera behaves a lot better, and with a slightly improved image quality.
Overall experience is positive, one thing to mention is that the task bar icons has slightly shifted to the right, this is the only bad things i have found and it is almost nothing, now i'll keep you updated with the 162 updates if you want.
and oh forgot to mention, Pie uses a little bit more ram than Orio, while not so quite, Orio 8.1 used to consume a lot of ram, like always 1.3Gb of free ram, with the 8.2 version at least the last update before Pie the 137 i think, i usually have up to 2.2gb 2.3 of free ram, like almost, never under 2.02, now with Pie, that has gone down a bit, i'm usually @1.78 1.73 free ram while on idle, any here's some pics.

Okay, so, I downloaded HiSuite and was able to install the 8.2.0.137 update but I didn't get the 9.0.1.162 one. Why is that? Also, in the Firmware Finder app, the 9.0.1.162 update was "approved" for my device but I don't know how I should install it using the app. Please help me out here, thanks.

hello, sorry if I ask something obvious, is this ROM a modded version of OOS?
because I'm very interested in the new OOS function to clone the system and create a second space like Xiaomi

Hi there, sorry to be a little of topic, but as a long time user and lover of Op5, may I ask you what you think of Nothing 1 ?
I'm running a pixel 4a5g for two years now and considering switching to another phone in the upcoming months, Nothing 1 and pixel 7a (if it is available before next summer) are two of my favs,.
Thanks

Hi,
For be clear, NP1 A13 1.5 take the way to become a device with Pixel feeling with additional Nothing touch (Glyph, Widgets, Fonts, UI (a little, near AOSP A13)
So you can really change for a Nothing for have a "refresh"/"new" feeling, it's really the same spirit than Pixel phone.
After if you like Pixel, using some exclusive apps/features (like Magic Erase on Camera, like a lot the Camera), i advise to you wait for the 7a.
And if it's important for you, on the both models a lot custom roms are purposed (will come quickly for the 7a, like previeous pixel)

For me the Nothing Phone 1 is close to perfect.
The only downside is that it is not a flagship device.
But the Software is by far the best i saw. Oxygen OS 10/11 was good but Nothing OS is better.
It has not much to offer but everything feels good and most important, it works.
Nothing is focusing on software and the phone is already fast and reliable as hell but it got even better with the android 13 first beta. Oxygen os 12 was never stable or good and they went to android 13 with the same bugs.
The Nothing Phone was a clear hardware downgrade from my op8pro but a major upgrade in software/overall feel and qol. It just works.

I'm using NP1 and have also used pixel roms on different phones, from my experience I would suggest you to wait for Pixel 7A.
Reasons:
1. P7a will probably get flagship hardware
2. Pixels UI is much better and polished than NOS
what I meant to say is that you don't get all the A13 goodies here. you can't change fronts (like sans and serif). no perect black dark mode... not many color options, Somehow I feel that Carl Pei wants to creare a tight ecosystem with limited choices. Pixel Camera is gonna be much better, it'll get all Android goodies...
