It is subjective. Everyone will have their own opinion. In my opinion. For battery stock eui rooted. For ease of use cm13 because it's like every other ROM I used on other phones.

I would suggest starting out with CM simply because the devs are very popular, reliable and I personally have a friend who is amazing with Android who tried many roms. His favorite is CM. I am considering installing it myself. Just doing research like you are. Extra feedback is welcome.
I also think CM13.0 (Team Superluminal) is the way to go at the moment.
I'm using it on my LEX720 and i've had zero problems so far.
With the last ROM cm-13.0-20161226-TS-le_zl1, There are 2 problems ( in the site teamsuperlumina ):
1) dual SIM
2) NFC Does not work
FOR ME THE BEST ROM IS "GROSSOSHOP-X720_LEECO_LEPRO3_20S", zero problem, Works better than the original.
hy people do not talk about "GROSSOSHOP", on XDA ?
Stock gets my vote, with or without root. Battery life is crazy, currently have over 11.5hrs SOT, 40hrs uptime, and about 18% remaining (only charged to 90%, not 100). This was achieved over WiFi + 2G/LTE + Wi-Fi calling. I'm considering rooting in order to freeze the LeEco junk, but I also want to see if the performance cluster of the 820 can be disabled.
You are right ace42, But I use the ROM grossoshop for 3 days and, The battery is still 30%.
The battery of the leeco pro 3 and really good with the stock ROM and the grossoshop ROM.
But, I still have to test the ROM "TARS_20s_by_Steve_Mars_Final_Version".

Also works just fine for me to pair with my sony bluetooth headphones. Team SuperLuminal's cm13 rom get's my vote, at least for the time being its the best cm13 based rom. The stock rom has "great battery life" at the expense of hackish battery saving. I had lots of issues with notifications, and then with the power saving junk turned off, my battery life became about the same as the cm13 rom, which is well over a day even with heavy use. With a ~4000 mah battery and the newest 14nm processor there shouldn't be a need for the "battery saving" features in the stock rom.

I haven't had any notification issues. Telegram, kik, SMS/MMS, and Skype messages are all received. I can't speak on Whatsapp since it's not as popular in the states, most people I know rely on SMS here, but outside of the US people like Whatsapp, Line, and so on. And more battery is always welcomed, which is why battery assistant is great. Having a large battery doesn't mean its runtime suddenly becomes irrelevant, my G2 used to get around 6-8hrs, so I'm happy to finally have a new device that could best it. Even if I were to buy a new notebook/tab with Kaby Lake I'd still try to squeeze just a little more juice out of its battery.
I don't know about you, but I tend to forget to charge my devices, as I also carry my laptop, another phone, and bluetooth earphones with me. Battery saving techniques (incl agg doze or amplify) can save you in situations where you might not be able to charge.

I've also experienced a few hiccups with notifications. I have a Garmin smartwatch and for some unapparent reason my notifications weren't working. I tried several things to fix to no avail. After I restarted the notifications started working again. I've also had a few glitches with the pop up copy paste text menu where it closes after a few seconds without being able to use it. Maybe a few others I could be forgetting.

I flashed this two roms:
- T.A.R.S. 5.9.20s by Steve Mars Final Version
- And Grossoshop from this link: https://mega.nz/#!tUkUQJwZ!h3tniWVWlSiYJICadW7MuEdYLDFKfNmNcEOBQ-eL1JM
I like Steve Mars rom, my phone is few days old so I came from stock rom 5.8.0.18S I can see the difference in the Steve rom it's better. Grossoshop also work you gotta try it for yourself.
Happy new years and Cheers

Greetings All,
I've been running the title line ROM for several days now and am impressed with it in general. This sucker uses next to nothing in terms of juice when the screen is off and when my Epic is "sleeping". I've been getting an average of 38 hours with my useage; by comparison, on stock I would be lucky to see 22 hours. On SRF ROMs for example, I would average 28 hours (which I was pleased with)...but got bit by the damn flashing bug and, as much as I say "hmmm, I'll stick with this one", well
It's pretty important for me to get a minimum of 24hrs of battery time on my phone due to my schedule, convenience (or lack of) with charging opportunities away from home. SRF ROMs have been really good for that; Hawk has garnered 10 more hours, most excellent.
The flash went great, no issues, I haven't experienced any FC's, the apparent memory leakage has been minimal, and most everything I need to work does. My data speeds (using EG22) are the same crappy speeds, tried EF, EG and EH modems that were either worse in some area or battery drainers. The ROM itself is snappy, good looking, and did I mention the battery life is great?
I only have one issue: A couple of apps I use to have are no longer "available" on the provided version of the market ("Black Market"). One of them is a paid app that I used every day, is pretty important for my job and is kind of a deal breaker (custom shift calendar/time tracking/scheduling app). I'm sure it has something to do with either the market version or perhaps even GB and not the fault of the ROM...so no slams whatsoever directed to it or to RandomKing.
Is it possible to flash a different Android Market version? I would imagine it depends on what phone signature it sees as to availability of apps(?).
Also, just as an aesthetic thing, I very much liked the on-screen keyboard that was provided with shane's Dark Horse theme...would it be possible to pull that apk, pop it into my system folder and run it on this ROM?
Anyways, great ROM RK (if you read this), thank you very much for your efforts. If I can get my app issue resolved, this will be my daily driver for quite some time.
Aww who am I kiddin'...it'll be my daily until that damn flashing itch overcomes my will
I am newish to the whole 'flashing' thing, but this is my third ROM and so far I am loving it much more than the others. Thanks RK!!
battery life seems great..
runs very smoothly
like the font
like that the kernel comes with the ROM
fast
haven't had any re-boot issues (that i know of)
do NOT quote me on this, but i had a similar problem back when i owned an OG droid. My market sucked balls and started to FC a lot, and sometimes when i would flash a new ROM it wouldn't see some apps. What i did was downloaded the default GAPPS zip and extract the APK and install it. easy, and it fixed this. also, with the keyboard thing, i'm not sure. i'd imagine you'd have to find a zip to flash it. but the keyboard is through an APK as well...so go to the system/app folder and extract it see if that works? again, don't quote me on this stuff, i'm probably totally wrong.
Have to agree. Fantastic rom everything works to perfection. Although my battery
life is not near what everybody claims.
Yes the font the snappiness of the phone even though the benchmarks don't equal
the performance.
yea. people claim to have like over 9000 hours of battery life. the only way i achieve this is by turning off 3g whenever i don't use it which is like, 60% of my day. he achieves the battery saving by disabling a lot of stuff that's kinda important to most. like email notifications and stuff...but meh, it works. Random Hawk is a beast. can't wait for his actual release once source gets leaked since this is Alpha.
Nice Rom
Been on this one for a few days. It's a good one.
Im at 15h 26m 55s and @ 53% battery life right now.
I started with fresh battery stats by booting to CWM and resetting the stats right after it was fully charged..
Wifi and email notifications are ALWAYS on. I spent about a half hour on the phone so far, turned alarm on, downloaded about 10 apps, played ~30 minutes of angry birds last night and checked my mail about every 20 minutes (when I was awake of course) Also spent some time texting.
Also OC'd to 1.2 Ghz

Went a 'round about way to get my missing apps installed (MyBackupRoot is a beautiful thing), now all is good. Keyboard was a bust...once I got the apk installed, it just FC'ed. No biggie. Went to the Market and got a GB keyboard (unthemed) and now it's somewhat to my liking (I don't care much for the Swype keyboard). Thanks for your input.

Stock email is good, but ya I've turned off google sync too and I get better battery life. Wifi's policy is great, and 3g is ok. Sometimes 3g uses more battery than wifi. Its odd but yea. Oh and I kinda hate to bring it up here, but since you're here Mr. RandomKing, the rom keeps resetting on me at times. I'll send a txt to someone sometimes and I get that triple vibrating thing, then my phone resets. Not fully but softly. It happens at random too, not just with txts.

No, I use the sense version. It has some bugs but for me it is acceptable (you wont find a perfect asop).
I just had one bug where I needed to take out battery (I could not unlock the screen although phone was still alive).
I installed this with the flashtool. It seems okay, and the interface (bog-standard Android?) is more familiar (to me at least) than the Miui interface.
Problems so far:
* seems not to support 5G WiFi (the Xiaomi ROMs support 5G WiFi) [Edit: miraculously, 5G WiFi is now working! ]
* battery percentage not shown
* can't see the patterns that you are drawing, if you are trying to protect the lock screen with a pattern
* my antivirus program doesn't like any of the themes apks that the Theme Manager is downloading (perhaps these are false positives - but I happen to trust my antivirus program)

Yes, pattern unlock is a bit tricky, you need to draw an invisible pattern before Smart Lock becomes available. Then there is an option to make the pattern visible. Maybe proceed with caution

Here are excerpts from comments I posted about the rom in another forum:
"A couple of days ago, I noticed the new Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Cinafoniaci AOSP Rom on Needrom. It took my interest because the creator, Simone Quarrera is also the developer of Space MTK Tool [project to update MTK Droid Tools for 64 bit devices].
I have been using the rom for a day plus & so far it is excellent. I am most impressed that the latest version of Xposed Installer ran immediately without issue. Last week, I tried AOSP Rom V3 by MD Steam, but Xposed wouldn't work, so I quickly abandoned it. I was resigned to staying with Miui & waiting for WSM Tools [Xposed alternative] to be updated to Miui 7. But now, I am happy to be back in familiar aosp territory. I like some things about Miui, e.g. beautiful themes and the stock apps, camera, compass & browser [smooth flash player]. I have made a custom backup of my last miui rom, so can go back & compare some time.
On first boot, the rom gives the option of retaining apps & settings from the previously installed rom. I didn't choose this option, preferring Titanium Backup to set up. Here are some features of the rom:
Material TWRP 2.8.7
Mobile Space Tool – includes Xposed, SuperSU, ADBD Insecure, Eng. Mode, Cpu Freq, Viper4 Android FX, Custom Themes
Stock Launcher is similar to Nova/Apex but with less options & can be coupled with the rom's themes
Miravision & ClearMotion
OTA updates – work in progress, I think
Notification leds working, but are not included in System Settings. A third party app is necessary. I am using Light Manager.
Battery life seems similar to Miui 7. Here is a screenshot of screen on time with battery at 57%:"

I think the developer will appreciate any feedback on bugs. Probably, the best place for this is Needrom [unless you're able to post in the Italian forum].
By the way, I don't use a screen lock, so pattern unlock is not an issue for me....
I am really happy with this rom & will likely stay with it. When I have time, I will under clock to see if battery life is extended. On miui 7 v. 5.11.1, I under clocked to 1.625 Ghz as the phone felt hot in the hand [I live in a hot climate]. I was surprised to see that on screen time life extended way beyond 6 hours [note: not 'normal' conditions, i.e. at home, wifi on, mobile data/gps/bluetooth disabled; ds battery saver to limit wake locks ]. Under clocked, the PC Mark Battery Life Test result was 6 hours 56 minutes [average for RN2 is 6 hours 4 minutes]. For me, under clocking didn't affect performance on the miui rom. Edit: Under clocked to 1.625 ghz → some lag in task switching/opening apps, no improvement in battery life.
@kusala thank you so much for your review
I was thinking about trying aosp too, mainly because of xposed and because some things of miui need to be improved yet in my opinion
However I need to decide between this and delirium proyect, maybe I'll try both. Did you try that one?
On the other hand, just for curious why are you so xposed dependant? Which modules do you need more?
And...anyone has a reliable zip for recovery of cinafoniaci?
Thanks

I haven't tried Delirium. The reason I flashed the Cinafoniaci rom is because I have seen other work by the developer & have confidence in his ability. If you contact Simone via Needrom with a request for a custom zipped rom, he may be able to help. I made a custom backup of my last miui rom, so wasn't concerned about using sp flash tool.
Re xposed, I currently have 13 modules installed. The ones most useful are Gravity Box [so many options], RecentApp Clear [improves recent apps in the Cina rom], Fix Lollipop Memory Leak, YouTube AdaAway & Xposed Torch [vol up activates torch when screen off].

Hi to every lucky body that get android 7 final.i made this topic to share your results in android 7 and compare with yours in android 6..like camera..battery..speed..tanx and hope to be usefull and active topic??????

Well, it's a tiny bit snappier, and a tiny bit faster overall.
The battery is better; I get 3:45 to 4 hours SOT in auto brightness, full location services with wireless scanning, google now on, google cards on, hot word on from any screen... the full google experience, for short.
It's better than I had with a variety of mods and ROMs on Marshmallow.
I especially enjoy the new notification center. I can read numerous full messages and emails right from the notification slide. Quite awesome.
And I thank the gods of Google for removing the stupid enlarged tiles for Wireless and Bluetooth, the most annoying feature ever.
Battery is not bad for stock but I get the feeling with all mods and tweaks and kernels and such android M was a bit better...
But it would be unfair to compare those two as M has been worked on for a year now... N is fresh out of the box so let's wait and see how much battery can be improved.
Other than that N is very fluent and fast. Up to now also very stable and offers some important options that used to be mods some years ago.
Camera... And such... Did not really compare but would expect them to be similar...

I haven't tried N yet, but I was reading a comment on Slashdot that led me to believe, that it included something similar to CM13 privacy manager ? Is this true? Do you now get to choose what apps get access to? Can you block them from wireless, cellular data?
^ This feature alone made me upgrade the wife's and kids tablets from Nexus 7s to Nexus 7 (2013)s so I could put them on CM13.

No, but you can do that from Data Usage in Settings, in M as well.
I've been using it for 2 days now. The doze feature is way better than that of M. I've noticed certain performance boost in games like asphalt 8 as the game used to lag after thermal throttling was active in M.
The usage is very very smooth, feels very light. I mostly love the quick settings panel as because it looks and is well organised than the previous version. It's just an initial build and its quite stable. I would say I am impressed and good to go with 7.0.
Well this was my perspective.
I think charging while screen is on is improved. Can someone confirm?

Not entirely sure... NExus 5x has quite some struggle with charging when screen on.
Under M there was almost no charging when screen was on and you did some browsing...
Might be slightly better under N... though I havent tested it long enough to confirm... Charging basically stopped when you used your phone constantly and not just for writing a text under M...
Nope, seems same like before.

Edit: it actually seems better, I'm using my phone on charger for about 10mins, and ampere measures around 1100mAh.
On MM it wouldn't go to more than 300mAh while screen on.

I tested it while playing a game (8 ball pool, not a resource intensive app) and the percentage went up atleast 2 to 3 % in roughly 5-10 minutes. It seems that it is improved. But we still need someone to look through the kernel's code or run a reliable test!
I have it on my 5x since it dropped was on dp5 before that. Official seems smoother don't really use the 5x since I got the s7.
I'm actually seeing what seems to be worse battery performance. I've eliminated a few apps that were troublesome, but it looks like the battery is draining faster than on "M". I'm hoping that it's simply a problem with the crappy cell signal in my office - my connection bounces between 27 different towers and it's still crappy at best.
Atleast for me, I can confirm that charging while screen on is finally fixed. Hail hydra!
As previously stated, it feels a lot snappier and lighter being on Nougat as opposed to Marshmallow. Quick Settings are better overall, especially when you're able to add custom quick tiles via apps in the Play Store. Only complaint about the Quick Settings is that the Wifi and Bluetooth used to toggle on press, then open mini settings when you clicked the text. Now it just opens mini settings. I can get used to that, though.
Oh, and I still hate the white background in the settings app. Haven't found any Layers themes that work well yet. If anybody else finds one, let me know.

Important, there are sorta probs about Substratum and Android N, such as make sure you wont apply it to Chrome and Documents for example. You'd get instant force close. And if there's any other app like that, you need to make sure it is off the list to get themed.

Description:
This thread is made to get you some extra juice, based on my own experience and testing.
You will find tips here for rooted and unrooted users. If you know more things to save some battery, be sure to post it here!
Bugs & Features:
You will gain a better battery life
Bugs could be possible no background sync of apps you are hibernating for example.
Maybe more, depends on which tools you are activating.
Optimizations in Oxygen OS
Let's start with some basics:
1. Use the dark Theme! OnePlus made a great thing with implementing a dark theme, as we have a super amoled display, this means when the color black (no dark grey or blue, it has to be BLACK) the pixels will consume nearly 0% battery even when the screen is on.
The Theme is system wide, even some stock apps like dialer, contacts and the status bar will turn black.
2. Use a black wallpaper (the more black the more battery you will safe, just Google for some nice walls) [Wallpaper Changer is a nice app if you like some variety.]
3. Disable all Gestures (except Pocket Mode). I haven’t tested how much this can safe, maybe it is only a little bit.
4. Disable Location & Sync services if you never need them. You can also disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as much as you can to extend you battery ("Tasker" is a great option for doing this automatically!)
5. Disable/Uninstall as many apps as you can (f.e. Chrome if you use the Snapdragon Browser written some lines later, the Google app a known battery drainer), use the stock apps over self-downloaded apps (f.e. Calc, Clock, Dialer,…, as these have a dark mode)
6. You can find some more settings on this post
No Root Apps
1. “Pixel Filter” – Set it to 50%, it will look the best. Pixel Filter is useful for Amoled display, as it will turn XX% of your screen pixel off. The screen quality will look worse but for me most of the time 50% is still okay and you can turn it off at any time
2. “Hibernation Manager” – Turn on as many options as you can and want
3. “Snapdragon Browser” based on Chromium by @arter97 – A browser optimized for the new Snapdragon Devices. It has a battery safer option, a dark mode and has a adblock option. Turn on both to safe more battery, especially if you are browsing much.
4. If you are using google maps much, be sure to download the regions you are living offline!
Root Apps
1. "Greenify" – Take a look at both Greenify & Hibernation Manager and choose one of them!
2. "Amplify" – Take a look here for the best settings
3. Take a look at Advanced Kernel Tweaks. I've tested it on my OnePlus 3T and its making its wonder. I really recommend giving it a try.
4. Download Monochrome and let it do its work at 15% battery
Please give a "thanks" to me if you like my post by pressing the following button.
Do you have a before and after screenshot?
Pretty much don't have a smart phone with these options on
Thanks

I've been trying to figure out how to turn off sync in the background have you do that for apps?
This is BS.
The guide for best battery life on the 3T should include 1 rule only:
1. Don't do anything and you will have 6-8h SOT guaranteed

Yep....I'm doing zero of these things...But I did grab the pixel screen for emergency...like if I don't have my battery charger...I'm in Chicago all day.....8pm rolls around and I know I won't get to a charger Tull like 4am....I might use that instead of battery saver mode. I grabbed the snapdragon chrome also.
I also have a custom kernel but not to down clock....to customize the governor and I/O controller. And eventually maybe f2fs, but I'm waiting for more roms to come out. Like freedom os after Android N is released.
I would also give the advice to use custom Governor scripts. I am using X.a.n.a battery from op3 and it works fine.
Using stock kernel I get 15-16% usage per our when screen on with stock settings, with xana I get 10-11 %

3. Download a custom kernel and underclock the GPU if you don’t game and the CPU as we usually don’t need that much cpu power (here is a good video for the OP3, hopefully elementalX or Boeffla Kernel will come to our T)

Here is why:

That tutorial is absolute bull****, he is not even underclocking to efficient frequencies
I mean, of course you will get better SOT. You are limiting the CPU!!!
But it WILL LAG If you demand more performance...
That's not the way a phone should work and even more a phone like ours, your are losing tons of performance by doing that.
Stay calms on low usage but be able to deliver full performance on load

For low~mid usage it will perform okay, but demand it a high load and then tell me how it goes
And why would you buy a device such as OP3 If you are going to keep it running on 1401Mhz... That's little bit than half of the full performance
I mean, wouldn't be smarter to buy a device that caps at 1401MHz since you ""don't need"" more

Exactly. I mean I pretty much leave everything on except BT because I don't use it that much. I can still get 5-6 hours SOT or more if I'm on wifi all day. That's with the light theme and everything. But hey, some people want to squeeze out as much as they can..

Disabling Sync does actually nothing.
No idea why so many people think its so important to turn it off.

Uninstall ES File explorer (if you have it installed)
So I have my 3T for 2 days now, and the battery life was quite decent I thought. It was until today that I say ES file explorer at the very top of most used battery with a whopping 42% battery use of which 80+% in the background.
Then today when I used greenify to force hibernate it, I noticed my phone not being as warm anymore, I thought it was normal.
Great thread btw.

I am, by no means, a developer nor programmer but I understand the concept. I have a theoretical question just based on looking at the specs of these phones.
The ZE552KL (ZenFone 3) and ZE553KL (ZenFone 3 Zoom) are both nearly twins. There's a few things that differ, but they're running the same chipset (thus same CPU, Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 MSM8953), same graphics (Adreno 506).
The differences are the screen resolutions, camera resolutions, WiFi chip (Zoom has no 5GHz support?), SIM 2 supports more bands on the Zoom.
I own the Zoom and I'm shocked that there's no Lineage OS for it, but I was scratching my head on a couple of theories.
The question I have is ... would the Lineage OS 14.1 ROM for the ZE552KL work on the ZE553KL? Has anybody tried this?
Thanks, in advance, to anybody who responds.
I own a zoom as well and I'd really appreciate a Lineage rom for this.
I would like to know as well!

My guess would be that those differences are just enough to preclude the ZE552KL Lineage ROM from working with our devices.
On the plus side (I hope) maybe those differences are easy to overcome and some willing dev will attempt to do so.
Please..!
Would very much appreciate this as well!!!
We could always do a little fundraiser to pay a developper to do the work for us?
Hardware wise the phones are damn near identical, so there shouldn't be much of an issue porting over Lineage. The only hiccup would be getting the secondary camera to work I'd imagine, but that's not a big deal.
The real issue isn't technical, it's just that the phone doesn't seem popular enough for any developer interest sadly.

Sadly I can't
I haven't got the ZE553KL and the time to support another phone...
ZE553KL is (was) by far the best Phone/Camera in mid-range budget.
As anything Asus, it suck because of software.
Its like dev never actually read reviews. 2000 ROM for a self-burning 900USD Samsung and none for this fine device.
Its just unfair.
Well, I've bought the Zoom phone recently and I can agree with what was said:
- Great hardware
- Crappy software
Seeing there are no usable custom ROMs mean I'll most likely return the phone :-/

Oh that's too bad. There's a similar thread regarding the lack of custom ROMs too so I'll ask you the same question: What is it that you're finding with the software that you feel would be solved with a custom ROM? Not trying to be argumentative, just genuinely curious.

Hi koimr!
Strange, I was sure I already replied your question, but it seems the reply was not saved... Anyway I miss the possibility to display the soft buttons and customise the LED notifications and generally I feel like there are not many things to customise.
But I wonder if anybody actually tried to install a Zenfone 3 custom ROM on Zenfone 3 zoom...
(Hope I'll visit Canada some day )

To give an answer to your question, someone already tried flashing lineage os from the zenfone 3 to their zenfone 3 zoom in the past (that thread is gone now) and it hard bricked their device. Wasn't able to recover from it sadly.
Other than that, you may look forward for it to arrive sometime in the future

You're only getting a 4-6h SOT? I don't own the phone anymore but with my extensive use, I would only charge the phone once by 2 days. My phone was root, I was using magisk and greenify, nothing too fancy. Listening to music all day, always browsing the web or facebook, instagram, messenger, webtoons, etc and I was getting a good 2 days use.
I simply wanted more customization and an os closer to the stock android which is why CM / Lineage OS was a good pick for me.
Although I now own a Huawei P20 due to my AZ3Z screen broke because of a 2 feets fall... (approximately 60cm fall) so that demand doesn't apply to me anymore. I still sometimes miss my az3z, good phone!

Well that is the case after OREO 8.0.0 update, i didn't begin modifying the phone myself because i'm on hold for the upcoming Lineage 15.1 ROM that a developer (KEVEN) is working on so i'm still in hope mode, i knew that 2.5D glass is a weak engineering so screen protector and armored metal case was crucial since day 1.
