I don't know if this is the right place to post this.
Summer 2017, I have bought a refurbished Note 4 SM-N910F from a local dealer for €300. I immediately rooted it with TWRP as recovery.
I didn't knew much about tweaking back then but I came across apps like Greenify, L Speed and HEBF Optimizer.
However, few weeks later I managed to soft-brick it.
I brought it back to life with a stock rom found somewhere on this site.
Months later I screwed up by bricking the damn thing again, I installed Nameless rom but it had terrible heating issues, even after a week.
I got back to stock again a few times with Emotion kernel installed.
Current situation:
I am now on stock rooted MM with stock kernel.
I have issues with my phone while gaming. It literally throttles the CPU speed down to 1190 MHz in less than 10 minutes while it doesn't get even warm, literally no sign of high CPU speeds at all.
Now I'm on Xposed (Wanam's build) and installed DVFS disabler. The problem is gone.
But now my phone gets warm even while web browsing, and even with the same games where it didn't heat up before
Please help guys I'm sure you know more than I do.
I just want to play games without heat and thermal throttling just like before...

Hi everyone
this is my first android phone and I'm facing quite an unfamiliar problem because I don't see a lot of people posting about it but the ones that do wonder what's the cause of it
First I started with Rocket Rom and abyss kernel, I noticed that my phone gets really laggy after 5 minutes playing games and keeps lagging when exiting them, antutu graphics benchmarks are always capped to 30fps if I run a complete test, so I changed to CF-root and my problem was gone, but still I wanted a tweaked custom kernel so I tried FM and after a while a got the same problem again, so I figured out it was a temperature problem and went back to CF-root.
Yesterday after almost one hour playing it happened on CF-root too, so I get really pissed off because I have a device that I SHOULD be able to game on, and I can't do it for a reasonable period of time due to heating, on abyss kernel in less than 5 minutes I would experience that in a game (that's why I could never run an antutu full test, the first cpu tests heated it up too much already), FM was better but still, I guess I played 30 minutes before it slowed down, and with CF-root I was already upset because it is not nearly as fast the abyss and FM but it was ok... for just 1 hour!
so presuming this is a general problem, what do you guys do when that happens, or what would you advice me to do? underclock to 1ghz?
Also, I don't think everyone's device heats up as quick as mine, so should I classify my note as defective?

That's happened to me on two phones htc incredible and wildfire s, try going back to stock with the stock kernel if that helps. If it doesn't then you may have a defective model.

Have you tried rebooting a couple times after getting everything setup? My Note seems to be doing a similar thing, last night after flashing Rocket Rom with abyss kernel for the first time just using market, browsing, etc while setting everything back up my phone was getting really warm and even just browsing the app drawer was slowing way down. I've since rebooted a bunch of times and it seems to be better, but it's still getting warm
I'm just learning about tegrak stuff right now, his app has a lock gpu 267 option, dual core always active, I think I'm going to downclock to 1.2 and try those options.
Also I will reboot a couple of times, I don't know if the correct way is to just reboot twice or everytime after flashing reboot twice wiping caches and stuff (full wipe? twice?)
Hi there,
I'm getting worried as this Exynos CPU gets warm, really warm. Am afraid some component will get damaged, 75C-77C and raising! while streaming mp3 and playing a 2D game, I've checked with CPU-Z every time. This usage shouldn't be a problem. I was doing the same setup three years ago with a Galaxy S2 i9100 with no overheating issues (50C max), what the HELL?
What's the normal functioning temp for this processor? What's the damaging threshold for it?
SM-N910C with BOC3 Lollipop, no root, 100% stock. Really thinking of downgrading to KK now
Try latest BOE3.
I'm on BOC3 and haven't experienced any overheating.
@Kinsman-UK - I can assure you that if you use Kingdom Rush (free in the Play Store) for more than 15 minutes your temps will skyrocket. Also, if you stream music (more usual) or data at the same time by WiFi you'll get a perfectly capable toaster. I did notice the thermal changes with the Smart Cover between the phone and my fingers.
@megatooth Upgrading to BOE3 can be a possibility, but I presume it'll be the same, no real changes there. I'm charging the phone and about to do the downgrade. Fingers crossed.
If anyone wants to replicate it, please install Kingdom Rush from the Play Store (free game) and stream some music at the same time. Never had such high temperatures in my android life, ever.
EDIT: megatooth was right and I was wrong, presuming tends to be wrong. It works, kids. Updated to BOE3 and got 40C after 30 minutes of playing and streaming. If anyone has the same problem, try updating.
Hi everyone,
I'm planning on buying a new phone my budget is not limited but OnePlus 2 checks all the boxes I need in a smart phone? I'm pretty excited to get this phone however when I went online on GSMArena a lot of people were reporting overheating issues and freezing of the phone. Can anyone tell me if the phone overheats on latest stock OTA as of 14th Feb because I really want to buy this phone in the coming 2 or 3 days.
Thanks.
No. With stock thermal file you could have poor performance on HQ games after a while. If you changed it you can avoid the a57 cores to turn off or under clock a lot. I play real racing 3 30m+ without underclocking (for temp reasons) 100mhz. With stock freqs for more than 30m+ ( I don't continue playing so I don't know how many it will take to underclock). I use thermal extreme file with 3°+. Of course it gets hot. But no problem for me, all phones gets hot while gaming or under heavy tasks, I can live with that. My nexus 5 gets hotter and quicker. Also I played vainglory for almost 2 hours and no undercloking either.

You should be fine I've had this phone for about two months and id say at best it gets warm when gaming the only time its ever got hot was when i was in a very hot room with the sun light hitting the phone but i was playing a driving game for 1 hour plus at this point so fair enough that it did get hot.
But id say 100% of the time when im not gaming it never gets hot im on stock 2.2.0
For just going on facebook and normal apps it never gets warm even most games it only gets sightly warm at best unless your really hamming it for a long time it will never get hot. you'll be fine for £289 you really can't go wrong i love this phone once MM is out and full dev support it out going to get even better!
Hi guys,
I have purchased Note 4 recently and it seems to be heating in minimal tasks also like surfing the internet. i have flashed KITKAT, LOLLIPOP(default) and MARSHMALLOW but in all these firmwares the problem seemed to be consistent. Earlier i used snapdragon phone which was clocked at 2.3 GHZ and used to heat @ heavy games like No Limits, with recording on but this one is heating in angry birds itself. Though no lags are observed. I have not tried the Marshmallow version latest yet but some body told that latest update fixed heating issue. The root problem i see is its Processor clocked @ 2.7 GHZ, i mean this much we see in PC. I dont understand why they have gone so far. Now Samsung kernel must be clocked such way that on demand it bumps the frequency to max. This max i want to limit to 2 GHZ but without knocking down KNOX warranty. If some one has latest updated Marshmallow release and can confirm that it is indeed not heating please comment or tell me the solution to this problem, i really like this phone but hate when it heats. I am ok with slight lagging due to underclocking. i am willing to flash kernels with lower max frequency via ODIN. No custom recovery intended. Also i dont want to loose on warranty.
Thanks and Regards,
Really looking forward to solution

I have a Verizon Note 4. I did have heat issues with Lollipop. Since I installed Marshmallow and did a factory reset, it only gets warm with heavy use. Some app updates have had my Note 4 running warm, but a reset of the phone seems to fix it.

Seems like custom rom is the only option bro
The Snapdragon 805 SOC does have a bad habit of getting really hot when running heavy tasks.
Not only was my phone Hot for every second I used it but... Look at this amazing SOT.
I finally figured out how to keep Google play services from draining the battery: burn through your entire battery before it even has time to start up.
Hey guys
I'm starting to worry about this issue I have. I've noticed my phone is heating up in the lower part of the phone when using for instance youtube app, sometimes browsing too. I won't count gaming because it's no suprise, but the odd thing is that when i use Twitch app to watch streams or VoDs, it's cold as when it's idle. Seems strange right ?
Would appreciate if someone could share their experiences with it, oh and it's stock firmware, latest and I got it about 3 month ago. Not rooted nor have I done something to it.
DFV's are broken on stock, CPU stays at 997MHz min, GPU also stays at 320 MHz & that is a good enough explanation why it's getting hot in the aria where SoC is located. On costume ROM's both things are fixed long time ago.
