Hi everyone
this is my first android phone and I'm facing quite an unfamiliar problem because I don't see a lot of people posting about it but the ones that do wonder what's the cause of it
First I started with Rocket Rom and abyss kernel, I noticed that my phone gets really laggy after 5 minutes playing games and keeps lagging when exiting them, antutu graphics benchmarks are always capped to 30fps if I run a complete test, so I changed to CF-root and my problem was gone, but still I wanted a tweaked custom kernel so I tried FM and after a while a got the same problem again, so I figured out it was a temperature problem and went back to CF-root.
Yesterday after almost one hour playing it happened on CF-root too, so I get really pissed off because I have a device that I SHOULD be able to game on, and I can't do it for a reasonable period of time due to heating, on abyss kernel in less than 5 minutes I would experience that in a game (that's why I could never run an antutu full test, the first cpu tests heated it up too much already), FM was better but still, I guess I played 30 minutes before it slowed down, and with CF-root I was already upset because it is not nearly as fast the abyss and FM but it was ok... for just 1 hour!
so presuming this is a general problem, what do you guys do when that happens, or what would you advice me to do? underclock to 1ghz?
Also, I don't think everyone's device heats up as quick as mine, so should I classify my note as defective?

That's happened to me on two phones htc incredible and wildfire s, try going back to stock with the stock kernel if that helps. If it doesn't then you may have a defective model.

Have you tried rebooting a couple times after getting everything setup? My Note seems to be doing a similar thing, last night after flashing Rocket Rom with abyss kernel for the first time just using market, browsing, etc while setting everything back up my phone was getting really warm and even just browsing the app drawer was slowing way down. I've since rebooted a bunch of times and it seems to be better, but it's still getting warm
I'm just learning about tegrak stuff right now, his app has a lock gpu 267 option, dual core always active, I think I'm going to downclock to 1.2 and try those options.
Also I will reboot a couple of times, I don't know if the correct way is to just reboot twice or everytime after flashing reboot twice wiping caches and stuff (full wipe? twice?)

Anyone running stock ec05 with the geno kernel? Decided to do this a few days ago. Despite the rfs, overclocked at 1.4 stable is giving me the best experience I've had yet. Also ran titanium backup and froze every piece of crap I found. My battery is amazing. Just yesterday I went 26 hours. For stock that's pwnage. Everything is extremely stable. Xda is the number one force closing app for me and it hasn't happened once. Everything is speedy and snappy even with rfs. And I dunno if its me but custom epic roms seem to screw up gpu drivers somewhere. Dungeon defenders is running better than it ever has at a smooth 40 plus fps. Scoring a 1300 in quadrant, 2700 in antutu. Here's my smartbench 2010 for kicks ) cheers lentlemen.
also found this weird battery snapshot I took of ef02 or something last week.

Roms aren't the answer for everyone. I kicked around going stock myself but the grip of the rom is too strong. I have been running the Urban Fury series' from CompKid and SRF 1.x.x. Haven't ran 1.2 yet and I doubt I will. Just doesn't have anything over 1.1 that I would want.
1.4 OC is very nice.
I have a similar experience with the GPU. Even though custom roms would give me better bench scores and overall snappiness, I'd get noticable lag and choppiness in some games. I've been back to stock for a while now and it pretty much runs every app smoothly. The Gingerbread leak was silky smooth and snappy, but after a while random reboots made me go back to Froyo. Between the game lag and clicks/pops I'd get in music playback with voodoo, stock has been the best for me even though there are several things I liked about a couple of the customs. I may have to give genocide another go around by itself rather than paired with a rom to see how it goes.
Ever since I nailed down what was draining my phone over wifi, I get excellent battery on stock. Went 30+ hours the other day with about an hour or so of display time on, and still had 25% left before I plugged it in. Most of the battery issues with this phone (from my experience anyway) is simply the phone not going into deep sleep properly, whether it's an app or in my case, something on wifi network. I have things like LP Facebook widget and weather syncs set to 3 hours.

What was draining your mini nuke over wifi?? Also app freezing is the ****. All drm and **** that drains my battery while in sleep mode is gone. Going to power cycle the battery and then give it a test run with the [email protected] 1.3 and 1.4 are awesome but require overvolting. Trying to go for amazing battery life here. Also running the phone @600MHz Compared to 1GHz you barely notice a difference.

Hello everyone...
I have 2 issues with my Transformer
the first one is that whenever i leave my Transformer for couple hours it shuts down !! doesn't occur when charging but it does when it's not.. even when the battery is around 80% !! i had this problem with ALL kernels except the stock kernel which i don't wanna use !! also had this problem for around 2 months...
the second one happened today when i left my Transformer "Charged" at 100%.. and after couple of hours i found it shut down but when i powered it on again i found the battery 27% !!
i went to the battery stats and found that battery was decreasing slowly and there was a gap (which means that it turned off) and after the gap it shows the battery low !! it happened within 6 hours !!
Please help me if you can... !! I'm using Revolver ROM 3.9.5 and "Blades Kernel 3" that comes in the Revolver Parts...
UPDATE : The problem occurs with the stock kernel !!
This sounds very familiar to the problem I had with my Galaxy S2 a month ago.
It kept shutting down every few hours, and it was driving me mad. Then one day I uninstalled the app greenpower, and it was fine afterwards. You don't have the greenpower app by any chance? If not, maybe it can be caused by some other app you normally use?
The battery might be hosed. Have you ever let it hit 0 before? A lot of batteries never fully recover after being fully depleted once or twice.

I never heard of this app... Just like i said it doesn't happen with the stock kernel !!
But the reason I'm using other kernels is because i wanna Overclock !!

No i never let it hit 0%... but i don't think that the problem is in the battery
However I'll try it and see what happens !
sounds like a silly question but i have seen it alot. Are you charging through a computer(USB) or wall?
It could be related to setCPU and the according profiles. Just recently I saw that my profiles were messed up after updating ROM and kernel. Might be worth a shot.
Reinstall stock kernel Issue #1 fixed.
Issue 2 sounds like charger shut off and left TF on not charging.
You've pretty much explained to yourself why the thing is shutting down.. It works fine on the stock kernel but not one that is letting you overclock.. Sounds to me like you are either overclocking more than it can handle or undervolting to much or both.
I can almost bet that its not shutting down completely and its just going into a state that the screen is off but the OS is hung up, so its not responding to you turning the screen on.. This would explain why the battery seems to be dieing when its sitting idle.
Not sure about it dieing while its plugged in other than maybe a fluke.
I don't wanna use the stock kernel.. it's really slow !!
and i over clock to 1.4 ghz only since i can't overclock more than that because it restarts itself endlessly if i overclocked more than 1.4 ghz !! i undervolted about -25 or -50.. not much !!
Yes i charge it on a wall or anything but NOT on my computer...
How can i change profiles in setcpu ??

No no you misunderstood! DONT let the battery hit 0.
First, you need to use more exclamation points !!!!
sounds like you are suffering from deep sleep issues. What rom are you running? also, have you tried running a custom kernel and not overclock it? You have several variables that can be influencing your issues, start isolating what may be causing your problems. the kernel seems the must likely of culprits, I would clear the overclock and install setcpu and run it for a but and see if you can replicate your issue.

Just try the non stock kernel, oc it but dont uv it, not all devices can handle uv, even if it is only a little bit. Even take it back too 1000mhz and try to increase the uv and oc by little bits at a time to see exactly what your transformer can handle. I think its the uv thats causing the problems. Experiment a bit and youll find the sweet spot.
I'm using Revolver ROM and i mentioned that...
I've never undervolted till yestersay.. maybe it caused the second problem
I set the clock speed at 1ghz and i'm waiting to see if anything changes..
Yeah... the problem still occurs even after setting the clock speed at 1ghz and default voltage !! using clemsyn kernel ver 22...
Every device is different. Differences in manufacturing etc. You might have a picky device. Plus these are mobile platforms. No fans, just convection cooling. They are not meant to be tweaked and oc'ed they way we do. The stock kernel is very fast. What is it that you cannot do on the stock kernel that the extreme oc let's you do?

I'm guessing my device is bad and it's Asus' problem ! i tried setting the clock speed at normal 1Ghz but the problem still occurs !! the reason i overclock is that because with the stock kernel i get slower web browsing and slower flash playback and slower overall performance!! however I'm back on the stock kernel to check out if the problem is gone or not...
I doubted my device couple months ago... because I've seen everyone overclock their devices at 1.6 GHz Without any issues !! but when i try to overclock a little bit more than 1.4 GHz it restarts itself endlessly !!
Had the same issue a few months ago. Be prepared to wake up to a dead TF.
I sent it back to ASUS and they replaced main board and battery. Under warranty of course. I suggest you unroot and use a stock rom for now.

You stated in an earlier post that the problem does not show up in the stock ASUS setup, but only with a custom ROM and Kernel. How does that make it ASUS' problem. If you buy a car that says it runs on 87 octane fuel and you put 100% nitro methane in the tank and it blows up it is not the manufacturers fault.
I'm running CM 7.2.0 with faux's 1GHz 0.2.4 kernel underclocked to 912 MHz (though I've had this with all CM roms and kernels) and after more than a minute of screen time my Atrix's CPU tends to exceed 50 degrees Celsius while the battery gets to around 40 degrees Celsius (this is recorded using setCPU). This happens most with apps like BaconReader or Facebook but has happened with others too.
I refuse to play games on my phone because it seems to nearly overheat while I'm playing any game.
When the phone starts to get hot, the battery drains faster (like 1% every 2-3 minutes).
Is there something I can do to fix this, or is this a common problem that I shouldn't mind?
Has anyone else experienced similar temperature issues?
Indeed my friend, its the Tegra 2 chipset, in fact, most of nVidia hardware tend to overheat, including Tegra 3 and PC/Laptops Video Hardware.

Never had an overheating problem without a rogue app on my Atrix. Get BetterBatteryStats and CpuSpy and see what's keeping your phone awake/running.
Crap phone, nothing you can do about it.

Get a life.
Nothing wrong with our phones except moto's traditional neglect.
OP, try going back to stock. I find I've got heat issues with custom kernels too..

Probably you have some rogue apps running in the background. You could try the GSAM battery monitor. It shows which app using the most battery and waking your phone.
It is getting hot because it is under a load. Not the phones fault. It is something you added. I had a "bad" app that looped and kept trying to write to cache. I couldn't figure it out till I used logcat. This phone still kicks ass, even if it does have Tegra II.
Also, BetterBatteryStats is free to xda users.

I would look into an kernal change if nothing else works. This has helped in the past for me

i know exactly what you're talking about, i jumped around all them roms based off of CM7 and CM9, tried different kernels, I did like Clemsyn's 1.0GHz enhanced kernel. In the end, try the rom in my sig, its based off CM7.2 stable, i **** you not my friend, first time ever I have enjoyed more than 24 hours of phone use on a single battery charge, phone never gets anywhere remotely close to being as hot as it used to, something about this build, i dont know but my battery lasts now and phone doesn't cook in my pocket after a phone call, check out log i have of how much battery life I got from 1 full charge
try flashing Jug's battery fix through CWM, it slows down the drain of the battery to a noticeable level where you can see it really does work and helps keep the battery from being pissed away after 2 phone calls
This is happening to me as well and only with this Rom have I had this issue. I guess I'll try changing roms and see if that fixes things.
i am using epsilon project v5 and problem solved
remember to fix permission

Hey guys
I'm starting to worry about this issue I have. I've noticed my phone is heating up in the lower part of the phone when using for instance youtube app, sometimes browsing too. I won't count gaming because it's no suprise, but the odd thing is that when i use Twitch app to watch streams or VoDs, it's cold as when it's idle. Seems strange right ?
Would appreciate if someone could share their experiences with it, oh and it's stock firmware, latest and I got it about 3 month ago. Not rooted nor have I done something to it.
DFV's are broken on stock, CPU stays at 997MHz min, GPU also stays at 320 MHz & that is a good enough explanation why it's getting hot in the aria where SoC is located. On costume ROM's both things are fixed long time ago.
I don't know if this is the right place to post this.
Summer 2017, I have bought a refurbished Note 4 SM-N910F from a local dealer for €300. I immediately rooted it with TWRP as recovery.
I didn't knew much about tweaking back then but I came across apps like Greenify, L Speed and HEBF Optimizer.
However, few weeks later I managed to soft-brick it.
I brought it back to life with a stock rom found somewhere on this site.
Months later I screwed up by bricking the damn thing again, I installed Nameless rom but it had terrible heating issues, even after a week.
I got back to stock again a few times with Emotion kernel installed.
Current situation:
I am now on stock rooted MM with stock kernel.
I have issues with my phone while gaming. It literally throttles the CPU speed down to 1190 MHz in less than 10 minutes while it doesn't get even warm, literally no sign of high CPU speeds at all.
Now I'm on Xposed (Wanam's build) and installed DVFS disabler. The problem is gone.
But now my phone gets warm even while web browsing, and even with the same games where it didn't heat up before
Please help guys I'm sure you know more than I do.
I just want to play games without heat and thermal throttling just like before...
