Mi A1 Water Damage - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

My Mi A1 fell in water. I thought water didn't go inside at first and wiped the phone dry and started using it. Lit afterward it started rebooting. I switched it off and let it dry . Currently my led is on even while the phone is switched off. I tried to vaccum blow air out of the speaker grill and sim area. The phone was working normal , like WiFi sim everything was working but there is still water on the camera module. I have put my phone in rice to absorb the moisture. Is it safe to turn it on now and check if everything works???
Update: I turned it on. Everything seems to work other than WiFi , it is connecting but the range is very less. And also the led keeps blinking at times

Rice doesn't really work. It's more of a myth than anything.
The real way to do it would be to open it up, clean it, and dry it.
Can't post outside links, search "electronics rice ifixit”.

Actually rice works, because it performs a function similar to silica gel. But obviously rice is not miraculous, it's always better to teardown the cell phone and dry it.

My phone got wet and now the screen is kinda funky

Good day...
Some idiot sat on my bag which contained mineral water. My mineral bottle blew open and the water inside spilled inside my bag. Unfortunately for me, my cellphone was at the bottom of my bag. During that time, I was listening to mp3s through a2dp. A minute later, the idiot told me that something in my bag spilled. Then, I noticed my bag was wet. Then a 10 seconds later, I realized my phone was inside my bag.
Long story short, my phone was working well, then the mp3s starting skipping like crazy, so I turned off my phone. Once I got home 20 minutes later, I blow dried the outer shell and the battery area and it was seemingly dry. Now I turned my phone on and it had some problems at first. The backlight wasn't lighting all the time until I went to the backlight settings.
Now my problem is that my screen is slightly flickering when the backlight is on. If I open my wizard with the help of the service manual, do you think I'll be able to solve this problem?
Okay, now the thing works again... However, now I am paranoid about it. Should I dry bake it and how do you dry bake? The only thing I did right now was to blow dry the hell out of it. I plan on getting that star shaped screw driver tomorrow, for a thorough cleansing. The touch screen seems to be damaged on the right side.
I'm not sure dry baking it is going to help now. If your phone is wet at all you should remove the battery immediately until you know that the phone is completely dry. To dry bake it though, rmove the battery and turn your oven on its lowest setting and then pop it in there for a few hours and it should be good to go after that. I'm guessing any damage that has been done to it already might be permanent. Maybe you'll get luck though and it isn't.
I would advise against baking it. My Cing 8525 has fallen into water TWICE now; the trick is to immediately shut it down, remove the battery, and allow the phone to thoroughly dry. I took a can of compressed air and blow dried my phone the first time; I then let it sit for several days open with the battery out (thought it was dead) but then decided to give it another try and it worked fine. Has continued to work well even after the second dunking but then I was in Africa and it was 118 degrees so didn't take long to dry.......
Baking the phone just increases your risks of overdoing or doing something wrong....

Touch HD In water, hints?

HI all, i've a really disappointing problem. My touch HD was in my pocket when I took some rain on my motorcycle . Arrived at home the phone was off. I opened it following the service manual. I've putted it behind the power supply of the pc, where the warm air comes out, dismantled, for a few days.
Then I assembled all, and now it turns on, but, it randomly restart. Do you think my mobo is broken? some contact?
I was thinking I can sell the various parts of my phone all the items works, sim, sd reader, camera (back and front) except the mobo ofcourse.
thanks in advance for your help
Hi.I have heard of one way of fixed water damaged devices and that is by putting them in a container covered by UNCOOKED rice. I think the rice is meant to draw the water out. Leave it for a day I think. Never tried it myself but heard it works
Phil G
Hi, thanks for your answer, the phone was behind the psu of the pc for a week totally dismantled, so I think is pretty dry
thanks again for you interest
I actually dropped me BS in a bucket of water. Dried it out in a heat cabinet at work (50 deg C) for a day and it works perfectly still
Hi la3bna, i'm trying to do as you suggested, was your bs powered when it fall in the water?
thanks for your answer
You should use the salt that is used to lower humidity (e.g. from Bison).
Put the bag of salt on the bottom of a plastic box.
On top of the bag a plate so your device has no fysical contact
with the salt. On the plate you lay down your device without
the backside. Seal the box airtight and leave it there for 7 days.
I did this with the Ipod of my son which had been washed for over
an hour on 60 degrees celsius. The Ipod was dead, but after the
procedure as described it was fully functional!
Thanks a lot, I'll try this!!
Yes mine was on, actually someone called my when it fell
I dropped mine in deep snow... I was holding it in my hand and slipped and also fell
It was very wet so I got scared it won't work but when I got home I turned it off, removed the battery, cards and just put it in some blanket to dry off
After an hour turned it back on and everything worked just like before
Also the other day I accidentally spilled some hand cream on my blackstone and it got inside but nothing happened again so I'm lucky...
thanks for your advices, trying the rice thing
lol, you guys are fecking useless
There is no way I would put myself in that situation, then again I have dropped it a few times so probably only lucky there wasnt water about
Well, I also dropped my Blackstone into water and, after drying it for some 2-3 hrs in the sun it works, except the memory card reader - the problem with the water and mobile phones is the fact that the water is oxidizing the circuitry - so, if it still malfunctions after a week of drying, then probably the phone is doomed.
Sorry for your loss!
for oxid, i've "bathed" the phone in Svitol, but nothing appens... i'm going to sell it as spare.
thanks all for your answer
open the device and dry it out..
already tried, using the service manual to open it, and dried for a week, but nothing appens.
thanks anyway
keep pressing the on/off button - eg, press button on off on off on off (while charging)
and tell me what happens, eg, a vibration??
hi, ti vibrate, then starts, show the smart mobility screen, load the SO, and all works for about 10 minutes. Then the phone restarts and get stuck to smart mobility screen. After that the only way is to press reset or remove the battery. After that if you press the power button the phone get always stuck on smart mobility, sometimes start to load the SO and then it restart before finishing to load.

Solved
Hi, problem solved, just left the phone in its box for a month then acidentally tried to start it and from that day works great... guess that just needed to dry out.
Thread can be closed.
Thanks for all your advice.

The end?
Dropped my Blackstone in the toilet last night (don't know how, I was drunk at the time). I believe it had been fully submerged for 2-3 minutes. It was turned on at the time. When I recovered it (thank God nothing had been done in the toilet at the time), it was off. I removed the cover and there was water behind the battery, in the SD card reader and SIM. Not a lot, but it was wet. Stupidly (drunk) and panicking , I dried off the back panel with a hand towel (possible static charge damage? - not yet known ). I left it on top of a t-shirt which is on top of the radiator. I don't yet want to turn it on fo fear of wrecking it (if it's not already wrecked).
What methods to people recommend I should take from above? Or maybe there are some new techniques? Would I be better taking it to a mobile service repair shop to see if they can fix it from the beginning, before I do any more damage?
1 dismantle the device into pieces. (if your not sure how i can give you a step by step guide)
2 now dry each of the parts of the device with cotton wool buds (the things used to clean your ears)
3 the put the device back together.
4 done.
....some people say to leave the device in rice etc because it draws the water from the device, IMO this does not work properly and there is nothing better that opening the device and actually cleaning it and removing the water yourself, and this should only take a few mins. it is also not recomended to send it to a service repair shop for something you can do yourself. just be carefull when dismantling the device. do not break any ribbons - used to connect the lcd amungst other things to motherboard.
might be possible you will need a new battery ^

Help. Screen problem. Dots & dots!

My brother was playing Temple Run and the screen was all fine then, even the night before. However, since 2 days I can see blue dots all over the right side of the screen. This is visible in the boot logo as well. I thought that the screen was gone but yesterday morning the dots seemed to have faded but they returned later on. This morning it has been same. I have found other threads with same problem, but none with a solution. Can anyone please help me out? Thanks.
Do you have a screenshot?
If rooted with custom RON then hold the power button and choose screenshot
Sent from my Motorola Defy (MB525) Red Lens running Quarx's CM9 through XDA Premium.
I took a screenshot but I could not see any marks there. Moreover the dots are visible even during boot. They did become very light though yesterday morning. I don't know whether it helps or not, but right now I am in Shillong, which is one of the rainiest places in the world = lots of humidity, and all the problems started after I arrived here.

I'm not sure, but could it be condensation underneath the screen?
I hope so. I guess I will have to wait till I get back to Bangalore.
1) Take the battery, SIM card and the Memory card out
2) After putting the back cover on, wrap the mobile in a plastic bag and then seal it air tight with tape
3) Place it in the freezer for 24 hours
4) Take it out and wait till it comes to room temperature.
5) Open the covering and then put the battery, etc in and turn it on...
Had the same issue when it was carried it on a flight and the above method saved the phone

If it is humidity, a bag of rice overnight to dry out is probably less likely to cause problems

Thanks a lot man! Method absolutely works. I had a bunch of dots suddenly appear on the screen after my Defy took a fall, so I looked up here found your solution and thought I'd try it. I wrapped the phone up tight, sealed it with tape, put it in a freezer for about 8 hours. Then I took it out, unwrapped it and put it in a jar of rice for about an hour (to take out the moisture.) Then I put the sim card, sd card battery back in and booted up, and viola, dots gone! Has been 3 days and dots haven't reappeared, so the solution seems permanent, too!
Thanks again!

I had the same problem and I tried this method. All the brushlike marks went away but the dark blue dots remained. Is there anything more I could do. Appreciate your help.
Try repeating the steps again. I suggest that you do it again tomorrow just to spare the phone from shivering in the extreme cold of your refrigerator for a short while

[Q] Camera flash won't turn off

The camera light on my Nexus 4 will not turn off, and the really weird thing is that it stays lit even after the device is powered off. This likely is caused by liquid damage from earlier today when I accidentally splashed some water into my open briefcase with the N4 inside. The phone has been powered off for several hours now -- and is inside a bag of rice as a last resort for rescuing it - but the camera flash is still lit. Before powering down I tried turning on and off a flashlight app that's installed, but it failed to shut off the light. I also tried to take a flash picture, but the camera app failed to open. Everything else seemed to work OK - the display, the voice and data - except there's no audio from web streaming.
I'm wondering if anyone has heard of or experienced this - especially the light staying on when the device is powered off. Thanks for any help.
I'm posting this follow-up in case anyone ever searches the forum about this problem. I'm certain this was caused by the liquid exposure, but luckily everything returned to normal after storing the phone powered-off in a sealed bag of rice for a day and a half (and for good measure, inside a car parked outside on a dry, sunny 85° day). When I removed the phone from the bag, the camera flash was off, and I assumed it had discharged the battery. But in fact there was still about a 40% charge remaining on the battery when I connected the charger. So the camera flash must have shut off at some point while drying out. In the weeks since the water spill I haven't found any other glitches with this device, so in this case at least, the bag of rice did the trick.

Problem with charging - moisture detected in the USB port.

As in the title. Right now I'm experiencing an issue with the 'moisture detected' notification. So long story short I'm on vacation right now in Vietnam (very humid) and yesterday I took my phone to the swimming pool in order to take a few pictures since it is IP68 waterproof. So all was good, wiped the phone clean and it was working perfectly (camera, fingerprint, screen etc.) until I've tried plugging it in. Then it showed the moisture detected notification so I've cleaned the port using cotton wipes, soft toilet paper and tried blowing into the port. It worked and phone did manage to charge to 100% overnight. But today the issue came once again. Tried using small toothpick wrapped in toilet paper in order to properly clean the area around charging port but it didn't manage to fix the problem. I'm honestly out of ideas and best thing for me would be to fix it without having to claim warranty since as I said I'm outside of my country right now. Do any of you guys have any idea how to fix it or encountered the same issue before?
EDIT: Right now my phone is sitting at 9% and I'm running out of ideas on what to do. I've also tried putting it vertically in rice in order to get rid of any moisture from the usb port but it didn't do ****.
Make sure you don't get other debris in the port (rice). If you have a small brush use that. Rubbing alcohol and a pressed qtip can also work. Good luck

I don't have access to a rubbing alcohol and I've tried using qtip as well as small brush to clean the port. The port itself looks clean and I can't observe any signs of moisture.
"I took my phone to the swimming pool in order to take a few pictures since it is IP68 waterproof."
No phone is waterproof BUT water resistant.
Its meant for accidental drops into water, splashes, rain etc. Not for a day of underwater filming and pictures.
Big lesson learnt here.
Try doing a factory reset, however, with 9% battery, this is a dangerous game.
Did you actually immerse your phone in the swimming pool?
Depending on which model you have, you could also try wireless charging
I think the port is perfectly dry, it must be the software that triggers a time counter with this message, to prevent the user from creating a short circuit.
Wait a few more hours / days and the message should disappear.
As said above, it is not Waterproof but water resistant, it implies such disturbances after a stay in the water
Sent from my LG G6 using XDA Labs
This is a somewhat common problem with the G6. Mine shows this error about once a month and I've never had water near my phone. It is some sort of hardware problem that has nothing to do with water. Try powering down and back up with it plugged into the charger, it may take a few times but that clears it on my unit. You can also try going into developer options and changing the usb port settings to charge only.
Try this
I may have found a temp solution to bypass the LG G6 moisture charge block.
1.Power the phone off completely.
2.Start in Recovery Mode ( Power on by holding Volume Down and Power buttons)
3.Clear Cache.
4.Before the phone reboots hold the buttons to return to Recovery Mode.
5.Select Power Off
6.Have the usb cord connected to a running computer.
7. Plug the cord into the phone while holding Volume Up and Power Buttons to go to Download Mode.
8. Reboot the phone by holding the Recovery Mode Buttons.
9. The phone should boot being nice to the usb cord and should be charging.
10. you may have to repeat these steps to charge the phone in the future, Im able to unhook it from the computer and connect it to a wall charger and it still work fine for at least one charge.
I also got this problem. But until now i think it solve. What i did is, first i use earbuds to clean the inner but it still show the warning.. Then i put vertically in rice for 30 minutes.. And it still show the warning. Lastly i used isopropyl alcohol pad to clean the insert of usb using toothpick. And the warning not showing off until now and i can charge the phone regularly...
I had this problem too. I resolved it by running tap water into the port for 2s and drying it off immediately using a toothpick and dry paper towel
My G6 started doing this a few days ago, now the notification pops up and closes every now and then (between every 10 seconds and 10 minutes, totally random) but the notifications go away when I plug my phone in? Which would be fine, but the notification wakes the screen up so I'm losing battery throughout the day like crazy...
I solve the problem with this: go to settings-general-apps-right upper corner dots-show system-app lg system server- storage- clear cache and confirm. Thats are all.
Happens to me a lot when I'm working outside in the rain and the phone is in my pocket. What I do and it works everytime for me, I use a hair dryer on high aimed into the port holding the phone port side down so any water will drip out. Do it for about 30 secs and plug your phone it, it should work.

I got the same exact problem, first the humidity sensor error, and then the battery icon the continuously changes to charging and not.
I've solved the first with alcohol and toothtpic, but not the second one.
When I restart it, it doesn't do it for a while, and then it comes back.
I already did:
- night in rice
- toothpick and Water with alcohol
- poured alcohol in the port and then cleaned it
- WD40
Any further solutions from the Pro member?
It does charge when off, but the the battery icon starts changing back and forward....
Thank you in advance!!!!!

I agree with what they say. The water residues that can not come out due to the pressure difference will come out with new water. Put pure (bottled) water in a bowl and let it stand for 5-10 minutes, quickly remove it from the water (vertical) and dry it. Tap water can cause scale formation. If the first attempt fails, try again and try to shake the phone in the towel.
Try to put your phone without sim card slot for a night in rice or moisture balls and try the haïr dryer
Had the same problem for few weeks, finally it disappeared, i guess dried off. in a mean time, try to shut down the phone unplugged, start again and plug the power in when LG logo appears on the screen. worked for me, try different timing until it works. Needs to be plugged in before phone finished boot
Best and easy way to resolve Moisture detected check USB port
I just had this issue about 15 mins back. Was worried on how to resolve it and hence searched for solution on XDA.
I also tried to take a towel with threads tied open on the ends rolled the treads end and pushed into the charging port and cleaned it for few seconds and it worked. I now dont see that error anymore.
