I have a nvidia shield tv 2015 with full android.
Now I bought a LG 4k monitor and tried to watch local 4k movies but I found that the video resolution of android is only 2k (the movie is 4k and the monitor is 4k). But I have no settings to change the resolution.
But I have "adb shell" access and wonder if I can edit a settings file and change the resolution to 4k?
Did you check all your HDMI cables can handle 4K? That's usually the place to start.
I did the same test with an Intel NUC and 4k worked.
I tried
adb shell wm size 3840x2160

and testet the result with a 4k test picture and it worked!
So: everything ok now.

Hello!
i am using my nexus player on a 720p TV but i am not viewing the complete image, it truncates the image, like if the nexus player is fixed at 1080p so the image received through HDMI is 1080p, but the TV is only able to display a part of it, (centered)
i installed xbmc/kodi and it also does not let me change the output resolution, also says 1080p (though it has the option but is read-only)
there's no option to change the output resolution manually
any help?
Currently there's no way to change the output resolution, but I should add that the Nexus Player always renders at 1080p internally, and then scales when it goes to output over HDMI. So, even if you're outputting at 720p, XBMC will report that you are rendering at 1080p.
Have you confirmed via your TV's display info that you're actually getting a 1080p input signal? If you're just getting overscan at 720p, that's expected and all the native apps are (supposed to be) designed to handle a 10% picture loss. Are you only noticing things cut off in XBMC, or are you missing parts of the screen in the rest of Android as well?
I didn't noticed until I started installing apps. all sideloaded apps have missing parts, Chrome, Sideload Launcher, xbmc, File Commander, etc...
WORKED!
thanks xBIGREDDx, my TV settings where wrong, it was set to Zoom instead of scale to fit.
Hi There!
I used Kodi on Nvidia Shield Android TV 6 month.
Last night i upgraded my 34" 720 TV to 55" UHDTV (4K).
Now ( only on Kodi) my cursor located on 4-5 position down and right .
If i close the Kodi everything fine with Android desktop.
Is it way to fix?
Thank you!!!

This happens because Android TV on the SHIELD draws the UI at 1080p regardless of the actual resolution of your TV. Kodi, however, tries to handle the mouse cursor position based on the TV's actual resolution, causing the behavior you're describing.
I don't own a 4K TV myself, so I can't test this, but you could try changing the Resolution setting under Settings > HDMI to see if that fixes it.

Hi guys
i have problem to get 4k from mojo at CM12.1
if i set res in build.prop 3840x2160 i get 4k but 60Hz which mojo can't do properly
horizontal jumpy output, not usable
i tried [email protected] or 3840x2160x30 but it doesnt have any influence
probably bad syntax or i have to get 30hz different way
can somebody look into defaul 4.4.2 rom what is writen in build.prop if you have set 4K
can't get original rom to reflash
can't find syntax of res command
don't know how to set 30Hz at 4K
Thank you
This might not help cause i don't have a 4k tv but anyways.... here you go. I don't have the stock os on my mojo anymore, but i took these photos before I made the jump to cm12.

I can disable/hide navigation bar but picture has still the same size.If i use standard netflix apk then picture is on fullscreen but i want to use 4k resolution (4k tv, 4k cable, 4k nvidia shield and netflix 4k subscription). Other vod services work fine with full resolution.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Can you set your Samsung to view in full screen mode when in Netflix? My Samsung 4K and Netflix 4K and other 4K apps are doing ok. We have not had to do anything special... !
Did you follow the instructions of my video at full android thread ?

Hi,
my Nvidia Shield is set 3840x2160 59,940Hz Yuv 420 10 Bit Rec. 2020 which is recommended in the settings. (my TV is an LG OLED55C6D, 4k HDR LG OLED)
The resolution always stays at 3840x2160, also if I play 1080p content e.g. in Netflix, Amazon Prime Video or Plex. I think even the framerat keeps at 59,940Hz as the video is no as smooth as when I play it with other sources (TV internal Apps, Apple TV 4k, FireTV 4k), but i can't check as the TV only shows "16:9 2160p BT.2020 PCM" but not the framerate.
Is there any way that the shield automatically changes framerate and resolution that it matches the video? I read somewhere that it should work with Kodi, but normally I don't use Kodi but Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Plex.
I have the same question and observation
