If you flash the latest firmware the modem and bootlader are allready included.

You didn't tell us why you want to change your modem, so it's impossible to give a certain answer to your question. It's not strictly necessary to flash both, but in most cases you would be best served to flash the full firmware, which will normally contain the modem and bootloader. Unless you have a specific reason to do otherwise, keep them a matched set.
Of course if you had done a search before posting, you'd already know this. You can search the forum or one of the many firmware repository sites for firmware. A quick look at Sammobile suggests that ANF3 or ANF4 are the newest 900W8 versions. Again, unless you have a credible reason to do otherwise stick to a modem from your carrier. i.e. the carrier that the phone originated from regardless of what carrier you will actually use it on.
If there is some compelling reason that you need to flash the modem only, you could extract the modem.bin file from the full firmware, package it as a .tar.md5 file and flash it on the CP line of Odin 3.09. If you are flashing the full firmware, enter the file name on the AP line.

Haha. Well thanks for the highly descriptive answer bud. I wanted to flash the newest modem because I found I was having tons of problems with the newest builds of roms like Omega and Xtrestolite. for instance I couldnt send outgoing texts. I asked around and never got a clear answer so just from reading I figured I needed the newest modem to get everything going properly. Im very new to this even though ive been an xda member for awhile i only recently starting doing a lot of flashing. Anyways its now clear after flashing new builds as well as extracting the modem for the newest stock firmware and I still cant get texts! Thanks for the advice

I think that your problem is highly unlikely to be caused by or solved by changing your modem. Have a close look at your configuration. If you can't find any errant settings. then do this:
Backup your system. Then use Odin to temporarily revert to the oldest 4.4.2 build (must be pre-June 3rd) for your carrier. i.e. you are installing a 100% stock build that is known not to have serious SMS issues. See if that resolves your problem or not to narrow down the source of the problem. And while I doubt that the problem is from your custom ROM per se, you could if you want just move to another custom ROM. There are a lot, the vast majority of which have no SMS issues.
At a guess, your problems are far more likely to be due to bad APN info, bad cache (clear your cache in recovery mode and also clear cache and data for your SMS client from the settings menu application manager) or a carrier side issue (open a support ticket).
If it was my phone, I'd be trying all of the points in the paragraph immediately above first. And only if that fails to resolve your problem (which is highly unlikely) would I be messing with modems, reverting to full stock firmware or migrating to a different ROM.

Ok noted. So i've reverted to stock a few times and SMS always worked. I've re rooted twice, tried different recoveries each time and tried a few different roms. heres what happens:
-Very first rom I've ever tried is Xtrestolite 1.2.2. . ZERO issues, kept updating as new versions came out till I got to 1.3.2. So even though 1.3.1 used the new firmware, I was still able to flash it with no issues. Then as soon as i tried the latest build, 1.3.2, couldnt text at all. I know its something to do with my SMSC because when i installed GO SMS pro from the playstore and manually inputted my SMSC i could text via that app, but not the stock one or even hangouts. Since 1.3.2 was using a slightly different firmware number I just assumed it was the modem. Exact same issue with Omega rom- V6 worked great, as soon as I flashed V7 no outgoing texts. Everything else worked by the way (incoming and outgoing calls, and incoming texts) Just not outgoing
So the reason for starting this thread is because i seem to only be able to use the last version of the 2 roms im interested in if I want to be able to text from the default app. I also checked with members using both roms, that had the W8 and they didnt experience these issues at all. We even went over the steps to get from stock unrooted to flashing the latest builds and my steps were identical to those people who didnt have my issue with the W8. I have no idea what to do but I will likely go back to stock for now. Thanks again
First of all, I may be posting this in the wrong section. But I desperately need your help on this.
I got a Jiayu S3, and couldn't not try to flash a custom rom on it, so I tried with "Pure AOSP V1 TF".
All went well, untill i found this app which was included with the rom, "Kinguser" (should be Superuser, i believe), which game me the option to toggle root.
At first and only time I opened this Kinguser app, option root was active. I did deactivate it, and reactivated immediately after.
As soon as i reactivated root, the privacy pin screen showed up.
I didn't set any PIN on my phone, so at first i thought it could be something like 1111 or 0000. Tried 5 times and it made me wait 30 seconds. Then tried another 3-4 times.
Here began the real mess: "forgot pin" (or psw) didn't show up, but at the time i didn't even know about that recovery option.
I didn't know what to do, so I just thought that a factory reset would certainly solve the problem, how couldn't it? Well, wiped everything, but PIN lock screen didn't go away.
So, wiping everything, I also deleted my gmail account from the phone, and I lost the possibility to lock phone and give it a new password (Android Device Manager). Too bad at the time I didn't know about this recovery option as well...
Now I'm out of ideas. I think I've tried every method I could find with a search of "Smartphone PIN locked". Tried with resets, plugins, deleting files with adb..
How do I unlock my phone?
little update: after a factory reset, for 2-3 seconds, it shows the default initial screen, but it doesn't last more that and i just can't do anything.
Now i managed to bring back the stock rom, but with that i lost the twrp recovery, and i can't find a way to make pc recognize the phone to reflash it.
It seems it's going worse instead of better...
I had just bought this Jiayu S3 and planned to bring it on holidays on wednesday, but i'm starting to think i won't be able to fix it before then
Did you have any resolution to this problem. I am currently sitting in the exact same boat. Did the factory reset, pass code screen still there, I didn't set a pass code. Basically hands tied, can't update firmware, guessing i'll have to get a new phone, but hoping maybe you found a miracle cure! ha! - Thanks for any guidance. - Arden (Seattle, WA)
Just flash another rom (stock/original) and start over.
How have you done that?
Can you help please?
I tried factory reset (volume plus+ power button), hard reset (volume- plus power button), update, and nothing works; I also went to two different specialized stores and they failed to find a way to reinstall the original Android version or a recent one.
Comparing the files with the factory version installed in the phone, the phone report identified three changes:
- a new file: /system/priv-app/7mK0T6e8Z5.apk
- the lost of a file: /system/app/com.android.fallen.apk
- and a modified file: /system/bin/debuggerd

To flash firmware you can use SP Flash Tool on a windows or linux computer (not sure about macosx). You have to decide which firmware you want (which one do you have now?). The 'official' firmwares can be found on needrom. SP Flash Tool can be found there as well. There are 2 popular LP firmwares built by Jiayu resellers in Europe (Xtreme from Spain and Jiayu.de from Germany). Guides on how to flash are often present at the place where you find the firmware.

Thank you!
I found "Xtreme from Spain":
needrom.com/download/rom-xtreme-rom-tf/
I found the "SP Flash Tool":
needrom.com/download/sp-flash-tool-v5-1424-00/
but it is for Linux... can you send me the link of the windows version?
And I could not found the "Jiayu.de from Germany": can you send the link?
Also, can you recommend some good manual for dummies?
Thanks again for your patient and help!
latest sp flash tools is 5.1532
search needrom with "5.1532" will leed you to the download page
no link allowed here, so ...
for beta 10 from jiyau.de, search google with "jiyau.de Lollipop 5.1.1 - Beta 10 (14.10.2015)".
it will leeds you to the rom.
Good hunting

I would like to add: if you come from KK and go to LP, you must use firmware upgrade to update/adjust internal SD partition layout. Good Luck! if you succeed, and are happy with firmware, consider voting @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/firmware-jiayu-s3-t3212184 (almost 100 votes)
First, thank you for your great help!
With your suggestions, I managed to install Lolipop in my Jiayu S3S (upgraded from Kit Kat) - Xtreme ROM TF (JiayuS3-5.1Extreme1.1SP.zip).
However the problem remain... the phone still is asking for a PIN (that I never had put there, in first place)...
What should I do now?
you could try factory reset and are you sure its the phone asking for pin and not the sim card
Hi all,
I'm totally new to Android after taking my iphone for a swim in Thailand (which is completely destroyed). I needed a phone for hotel reservations etc, so I decided to upgrade to an S8, bought at a Samsung outlet in Tesco in Thailand.
I live in the UK, so would like to be able to access all UK features (chiefly of all, Samsung/Android pay - not fussed which), along with not having to pay in Baht in the Play Store. Support have been 0 help, basically telling me I'm SOOL. I've read online about changing the CSC code, but I'd really appreciate some advice about whether this is possible and how I'd go about doing this. I'm not really worried about my warranty as apparently it's not valid in the UK. I'm more concerned about bricking my phone/making it unusable or a pain to operate.
Can anyone help/point me in the direction of an easy to follow guide? I'd be extremely grateful!
My model number is SM-G950FD
Thanks,
Dom
The easiest way is to flash via Odin UK specific firmware. So on Sam mobile I use the EVR firmware for EE UK, they have different ones for the major carriers
OK cool. I'm sure I can find a guide for that, but I have a couple of questions:
- what are the ramifications of this? Will it bork any part of my phone? Are there any other risks I should be aware of?
- will I be able to back up and restore my phone, but with the new firmware?

It will be completely stock you will be fine. In terms of backup & restore the same as you would normally. Naturally you won't have TWRP root etc for proper backup.
but since you want samsung pay to work you cant have those anyway
link to all samsung 950f firmware https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G950F/
Once you find which you want & assuming your not a member of the site you will get very slow download speeds go here (if you're a member it's really fast)
https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model to download.
So I just attempted to flash to BTU. Downloaded the appropriate firmware, then attempted to flash via Odin (BL, AP, CP & CSC (not home)), including a factory reset.
When I restart the device, it reboots in Thai! Any suggestions?
Thanks!

first factory reset. then flash home instead of csc + all the others, should work. If it doesn't change language in the phone first then repeat the steps just given.
You may have a problem only in that because you are not rooted or have custom recovery It defaults to what it was when 1st setup it has frp (factory reset protection). but as I said should work

OK cool - so I've followed these steps exactly and I've ended up with XEU/XEU/THL. Play Store etc still in Baht. Not really sure where to go from here!
Im afraid thats as far as I can help. Without root or twrp. Hopefully someone else will be able to assist
I just tried downloading the 3 UK firmware (my carrier is 3), and I get a 3 boot screen, but the Play Store etc is still in Baht. This is immensely frustrating!
Perhaps if you Google how to reset FRP?
My SM-G395F is taking around 6-7 seconds before showing incoming calls. It's doing that for a couple of year (from day one) and it's like that for every calls. My phone is pure stock, no root, nothing special and using the latest rom I got from OTA (G935FXXS3ERL4).
I search on google and some user were facing the same issue too. For them it was solved after an update (they were using an operator rom). I'm also using a rom from my operator (which was installed when I bought the phone).
Is is the same for you ? Do think that it is normal ? Any idea if it can be solved or where I could find a solution for that ?
PS: sorry for my poor english, I'm not that good to learn it
Did you try doing a full reset? Not just from the settings menu but from recovery..
I did not tried that. If it can solve the problem I will try. In case of it does not solve the issue, do you think I could try to reflash the same rom with Odin?, this rom is a multi CSC, if I flash the same rom with the CSC file (not home CSC) will it change my csc after the next factory reset from recovery? Thank you for your help
If you do the factory reset, your CSC should remain the one that you had last flashed. As flashing replaces the module in the system.
Tried a factory reset and it does not change anything. Do you have the same problem on your s7 edge? I suppose that the problem comes from the csc as the factory reset did not change anything. What do you think? I also reflashed the latest version of my rom and no luck with that too.
Hey,
Need some help. My brand new AT&T S8 Active arrived yesterday. Since I am located outside the US I'm stuck with utilising Odin to update the software.
The current version listed on the AT&T website was 5CSK1 and I was able to track down the update:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=81251867&postcount=743
It installed successfully, everything is going well however I am unable turn on NFC. The toggle found in the settings menu is off and when I attempt to switch it on it greys out for a few seconds then the 'NFC keeps stopping' error appears on the bottom of the screen.
I've cleared the cache/data for the NFC app - no luck,
I've performed a factory reset via recovery menu - no luck.
I've installed the previous build 5CSJ3 from: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80903399&postcount=187 with a factory reset straight after - no luck.
I'm currently back on the latest K1 build.
Logcat shows errors with 'libnfc_nci' and a 'Fatal Exception' for the 'com.android.nfc' process. And to top it all off the NFC app is draining my battery.
If anyone can help me that would be awesome.

ugh, the active line... there hasnt ever been much support for those. All you can really do is keep flashing the stock firmware and hope that the errors resolve themselves.
Side note: have you noticed how they stopped making the active phones? They were a dismal failure. All they are is the regular phone in a case that you cant take off :/

Might try redownloading a different firmware from a differ location. I had this issue on a lg back in the day the camera wouldnt work no matter what I always restored stock with one firm I had. And it ended up being a bad download. Another possibility is a bad NFC chip. If it's new I'd have it warranted
Thankyou, Thankyou Youdoofus and TheMadScientist for your advice.
Woke up early today (3am) with coffee in hand I tried again downloading the K1 and J3 builds; neither worked.
Unfortunately there's no alternative download for them... Google points to the XDA forums which seem to come from some Russian forum.
I've gone to an earlier build - 5CSI3 - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80505887&postcount=186 which works.
So it's not a NFC chip issue, yay. Now, just need to figure out what I'll do when the next update hits at the end of this month.

Yeah, it's working on the 5CSI3 build from October 2019, there's been two recent updates since then (and another will come at the end of the month). I don't know what's happening as no one else has reported this issue .
Just wanting to be on the most recent version for security and the annoyance of having data wiped every update.
Edit: Yeah, Odin v3.13.1 . No errors being displayed, all green.
This issue is very likely to be caused by 3rd party sim unlock or FRP removal and meddling with knox.
I have been trying to get around this problem and it seems it is either a security measure to disable nfc payments on triggering knoxguard or problem with modem.
this problem started after CSJ3 update afaik and only on some phones, if someone can explain this would be great.
Solution:
You will lose all data so backup is recommended
Remove your SIM card, re-install the firmware with ODIN and check Nand Erase auto reboot and F. reset time
Check your KG status(checking or prenormal) on the bootloader, and in settings>device care you will see Security is disabled and it crashes when you click it.
I also noticed the settings menu is weird with many broken options and dailer codes dont work anymore.
EDIT: Workaround Solution:
THIS IS FOR G892A ONLY who have problem with NFC after updating to builds after December 2019
Disclaimer: do at your own risk and can break your phone signal or system detected as rooted/custom
note: you will lose all data, ONLY check "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" in odin
1) Backup your data
2) Delete your google account, so FRP : OFF in bootloader (this can cause problems if not done)
3) Flash 5 firmware files G892AUCS5CTC1 (latest rom with march 2020 security) and get back to bootloader
4) Flash 3 files from G892AUCS5CSI3 : BL, CP and CSC
(odin will say PASS, but recovery will give error)
5) select wipe data partition then reboot to system
when the phone starts you will see NFC logo in statusbar means you are successful
if you get errors while using odin: flash combination file : G892AUCU5ASD1 if this doesnt work it means you have different problem (cable, socket, pc, bad chip)
i tried flashing CP file only and phone booted into UPLOAD mode, so dont panic if you get into UPLOAD mode just reboot with 3 buttons to recovery and start over

Hello There!..kind of new about this so..long story short..
Phone had Android 8, and I really love Night mode on Android 9, so...I've found BL, AP, CP, CSC, USER Data ROM for GALAXY S8 ACTIVE AT&T Unlocked, however..I am a little bit afraid of any NAND Erase.
I am not an expert, but I can tell you are. By any chance do you have any vide or graphic tutorial abot how you can perform these actions? It is very odd that I am unable to have any *# codes working, and lately, I've received this odd message about NFC Service has stopped, so...any graphic step by step guide will be highly appreciated it.
I've tried ....soft reset, then factory reset, then flash again ODIN (BL, AP,CP, CSC and USER DATA ) But I have no idea how to back up my data, and it will be very helpful to have G892AUCS5CSI3 as well.
Thank you very much for your time, I hope you can help me and I appreciate very much your time.

RESOLUTION:
INSTALL THE FULL G892AUCS5CSI3. Worked as magic =)

You can backup your data with Samsung backup and restore to Samsung cloud or to your PC with Samsung's Smart Switch app.
As for tutorial I'll try to make one with images for the latest ROM G892AUCU5CTF4 dated 20-Aug-2020 with August security patch. I'll upload it later as I still have to backup my phone before updating.
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
Is it G892AUCU5CTF4 a estable versión for S8 Active? Or does it has any other bugs? I had to "downgrade" and now things are pretty cool, however, I would love to have the newest version. Thank you!

It doesn't have any bugs but some people have issue with flashing new builds, if you have this issue just install CSI3 build or earlier

I've installed the previous build 5CSJ3 from: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80903399&postcount=187 with a factory reset straight after - no luck.
... And to top it all off the NFC app is draining my battery.

Same. I also tried CTA2 and CTL1. Everything after CSI3 has NFC crashing and excessive battery drain. I've tried multiple flashes on multiple phones.

I tried again downloading the K1 and J3 builds; neither worked.

I don't know what's happening as no one else has reported this issue .
Edit: Yeah, Odin v3.13.1 . No errors being displayed, all green.

Same here. I used Odin 3.14.1, though.

Solution:
You will lose all data so backup is recommended
Remove your SIM card, re-install the firmware with ODIN and check Nand Erase auto reboot and F. reset time

This did not work for me, not even with "Nand Erase" checked.

Same. The problem of the secret dialer codes not working parallels the NFC problem for me; that is to say that it doesn't work on any firmware after CSI3.

Same. I'm not sure where I originally got it from, but here's a reupload from my archives. I created a list of MD5 checksums if you care to check the five files for corruption.
