"Battery Saver" RED and Ugly top Bar ?? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

its my second day using a xiaomi mi a1 .
and one of the things i just find ridiculous is the RED top bar that appears when you turn "Battery Saver" ON.
that red top bar will cause screen burn after a year or more of use. Plus it is not a nice thing to see. I wonder why the hell they designed something like that because it is absolutly stupid.
Does anyone know how to change the color of the bar after battery saver is turned on?
or a way to not use battery saver and use a different app that will do the same purpose?

The red bar is standard on android, it will been removed on android p.
To turn the bar off, you must install xposed and the module gravitybox [O]

1. you cant get screen burn in with lcds only with amoleds. There is something called image retention when the liquid crystals cant relax into their initial state so there is a temporary(!) ghost image visible. That would happen with either blue or white light. Red is the last color it could happen with. (not enough energy in that wavelength range). Also as mentioned already, standard stock android thing.
2. You can mostly set the settings yourself like disabling sync, restricting background app access and so forth. You could probably automate most of it with using tasker.

Battery Icon that shows mA as well

Anyone know of a status bar Battery Icon that also shows drain in either mA or mW?
If not, perhaps someone around here might be interested in creating one as I have looked but cannot find one. (I do not mean a Today Plugin like HomeScreenPlusPlus/BatterStatus)
The idea:
Essentially similar to the WM Battery Icon that is there now with bars showing charge but with added feature of numerals showing mA drain. These numeral could either be overlayed on the icon or squeezed beneath it in tiny font.
The advantage of this arrangement is:
1) it would work with TF3D on a Diamond. This is because it would not be a today plugin. Simpy an alternative to the current battery icon on the Status bar.
2) Would enable user to always see charge remaining and current load.
I like the idea of always being able to see the load on my battery as often I have apps running in the background which are chewing through the battery. Conversely if the mA drain is low I know these apps cannot be running and all is good. Makes for an easy way to increase battery life.
Essentially all the app would have to do is somehow ascertain current drain in mA and display it over the battery bars on the icon. Nothing more. Be great if one of you clever programs could put this together. I reckon it would be popular.
Would any one else be interested in a replacement for the default status bar battery icon that worked like this?
Battery Status is ur best bet

Batti (battery above start bar) on X1 CPU load *RESOLVED*

Hi all!
Not sure if this is isolated to the X1 or not, but I found that Batti (yes, I know it's discontinued now... but it is opensource freeware, so anyone can improve it now!), I found on my X1 that the CPU load, while charging and with "colour gradient" on, is constantly about 10-20% CPU load usage. My X1 would actually heat up (the battery temperature would increase) because of this, and not only that, it would take longer to charge up, because Batti was simultaneously draining the battery. And of course the phone was somewhat more sluggish.
I was about to un-install it, but then I decided to turn OFF the colour gradient function. BAM... CPU usage went down to 0-1%.
I tried turning off the "Charging indicator) which is simply stopping it from scrolling the bar left-to-right when it is plugged in, but that didn't make any difference.
The BIG DIFFERENCE is the Colour Gradient function. At least for the X1, i *HIGHLY* recommend you TURN IT OFF.
This problem might affect other phones as well, maybe only on WVGA (since we have a wider high resolution screen, perhaps Batti has to calculate too much to make the colour gradient smooth as it is?)... so maybe the Touch HD which also has the same resolution has the same problem with CPU load / Battery drain?
Anyway, thought I would bring this up, because I know quite a lot of people talk about battery drain while using Batti, and now I have identified the cause (and remedy) for this.
Hope this benefits others, and hopefully someone can maybe optimize the color gradient algorithm so it is not so CPU intensive!
(oh, and sometimes when we slide the keyboard out to change orientation or slide it back in, batti takes some time to redraw the bar... this also improves after you turn OFF this colour gradient function!)
Thanks!
Thanks man I didn't notic that but however I've noticed that something drains the battery very fast. Thanks for the useful info!

Yeh, I just thought I'd post this here, so that if someone is doing a search, then they can find a solution easily!
no more automatic switch off
Hello, I have a touch HD with Batti installed, and a very important battery drain since installed. I've tried to remove the "gradiant option" as you said, and it seems to be better, but thought, i remarked that my phone doesn't want to turn off its screen after 20 secs of inactivity, as i esked it to do via the autonomy settings ant S2U2 settings, so i think it can explain the battery drain too. Let me know if u have the same problems with your phones, please.
Not exactly resolved, but it's a workaround.
No more prob
OK, good for me, i think my problem was not Batti's fault, but a new transparent theme fot tf3d that disabled the automatic screen shutdown, cause since i removed that (very nice) theme, i have no more battery drain with batti re-installed and "colour gradiant" turned off. Thx for the trick, so ...
Batti discontinued? -- http://code.google.com/p/batti/
May i know how do you guys check for the CPU usage?
I don't ... I'm only talking about the battery drain.

Yes, it is, but the author made it open source, so anyone can continue it now!
Thumbs Up!!!!
Yup! This actually did the rick for me. I cant comment on battery consumption yet cause i just tried it but Batti is definitely performng better now. Screen switching is zippy. With gradient on, batti used to take forever to appear when waking up the device from sleep mode (used to show the charging purple colour) but now that is also very fast as well.
I used to think that turning gradient off was ugle but it is actually more pracical now that im using it; the battery is fully green when full, yellow when below 50% (i think) and red when under 10%, even looks neater than with gradient on!
Good job!
Thanks for the post! Confirmed that CPU usage has dropped considerably from 7-8% to 0.2-0.3%. I had switched to a different battery indicator for awhile, but happy to be using batti again for all of its other features!

Backlight issue for the htc hd2 t-mobile leo

well like the title says its a prob that i have and i do not know how to solve it. the prob is that when i try to change the backlight to a percent i want it to (example from 100% to 20%, in order to save battery) it doesn't show the bar to change it....it just shows the automatic check box (which im using as a default) and the external battery bar which works but not the one before it the battery backlight percentage. maybe someone has the same problem and could find the solution cause it a bothersome to have my phone not use the custom backlight that i want it on not the automatic one which could drain my battery. here is a picture of what i mean.......
To manually adjust the backlight, uncheck the option "Automatically adjust backlight".
my problem is that i can't see the bar that i can use to select the % of the back light i wanna use. Yea when i uncheck the automatic the screen goes to like maybe 20% blacklight which is too dark to see, i wanna change the % to a little higher so i can see but thats the thing i cannot see the bar in order to change the % of my backlight

reboot you're phone... is this a stock rom or custom rom? if it's a custom rom, the chef mixed in the incompatible HTC Services (htc util), also could be shared resources.

This happened to me when I tried installing SPB TV and unistalled it. I had to do a factory reset to get it back. I read somewhere on here that there is a reg-edit to fix it but I don't feel comfortable messing with my registry. So I just did a factory reset and it fixed it

HKCU\ControlPanel\BackLight\Brightness Change to 3
For those who do not want to mess with the Registry, I've added the Registry Settings into an easy to install CAB file. Just install to main memory and your Brightness sliders will be returned.
This sets your brightness to FULL (10) on both battery and AC power, so be sure to go in and adjust accordingly for your preferences.

ARGH! I just can't take the lack of a notification LED!

It's finally driven me to the point that I'm just going to sell the Nexus for a profit and get a G2. I can't take picking up my phone every single time I want to check if I have a message. I've never had a smartphone without this feature, and it's just a nightmare.

I do miss having an LED indicator too... but I wonder if they took it out due to battery life reasons. Is there an app that can help give better indications in case for missed calls or texts that can do a reminder without an LED indicator... maybe even use the LED light on the back of the camera is better than nothing
i would say just wait until someone makes it so it uses the LEDs under the softkeys as notification lights

Use NoLED, works great for me. I like it more than the trackball notifications on my N1 now, they look awesome on the screen.

I don't want to power-on the screen for a notification that may be left un-noticed for an hour.
I didn't really like the idea of NoLED either but I just decided to try it for the hell of it. I use the blink mode and set the time out to 1 hour so if it's idle for an hour the notifications will stop. I've checked the battery drain and it seems to be quite small with blink mode at least (since I'm only having it display the notifications for 1 second every 30 seconds). So really, 2 seconds of screen time every minute, which is about 120 seconds every hour, or about 2 minutes of screen time where it's mostly black and a few lit pixels, and then after that 1 hour it stops.

I tried noled but must confess I never spent any time setting it up so the battery drain I noticed may have been avoidable.
Just to pick up on the above... I'd want the notifications instantly obvious so that a quick glance at my phone would notify me of any messages. Using the above method I'd only see a notification for some of the time and not all.
Lighting up the bottom buttons would be a much better option for me but in the meantime I might try noled again.

Other than the fact that they're not colored, seems a bit better IMO, more noticeable. Also, battery drain really is minimal with NoLed...

The three pixels on the screen drawing power aren't going to impact your battery life heavily.

to be honest id be more paranoid about burn in , cuz really if i get a text when im sleeping and it goes unnoticed for 8 hours then what
With NoLED you can set notification timeouts, I have mine set to 30 minutes because I always have my phone near me and 30 minutes is plenty. I also have it set to use the Proximity sensor so that if the phone is in my pocket it's not displaying any notification, only when you remove the phone from your pocket and the proximity sensor detects that it's clear will it display the notification instantly. You can also set a "sleep" time for notifications, so I have mine turn off at 2am and turn back on at 6am.
If there is any increased battery drain I haven't noticed it, but then again I don't leave notifications on flashing for hours either.

The notifications move around the screen to prevent any pixel burn-in. You can set them to timeout after a certain amount of time also.
Have you guys even bothered trying out NoLED? Haha
Good to know but on top of that don't the notifications move around the screen?
Edit: ikon beat me to it.

NO!, i fear change!
Have the phone make a sound/vibrate. No need to pick it up.
or download noLED. Problem solved.
I've made a couple posts in the Poor Battery Life on NS? thread( such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10143276&postcount=159) detailing my experience with the Nexus S's battery.
I use noLED as my notification system with large icons rather than the default little dots and no time out method. The only other special thing I've done to it is turn on the proximity sensor so noLED doesn't run while it's in my pocket. My boss likes to do a lot of paperwork in the super late evening/early morning and sends me emails accordingly(this is why I don't leave the sound/vibrate on, lol). noLED's impact on battery life is extremely negligible. I would put it on par with the power with the power consumption of an actual LED notification light due to the way SAMOLED and blacks work.
And, if you're worried about burn in, like someone said, the icons shift around the screen in order to avoid that.

that proximity sensor idea while its in your pocket, genius
Just tried noled again and am noticing a few force close errors.
What settings are best for this app and when a notification is received, what are you using to wake tje phone again as the power button causes issues as explained in the splash screen after install?
I'm also seeing all the bottom buttons light up as well as the notification on the screen, is this normal and if so is this not consuming battery unnecesarily?
Seems a tad buggy to me this app on the Nexus S. Would appreciate exact settings / configuration from anyone that has it running satisfactorily.

Secondary screen as LED notification.

Hello guys,
Just using this phone about one month ago. It's overall a good phone.
Except battery life which i think a software may fix it. Because i'm seeing other phones with maybe smaller battery mAh and with the same SOC, but they lasts long. (I don't understand how).
any way also i missing the notification LED . and i suggesting if there's any mod or app that can make the secondary display act like a notification LED. I imagine that it would be better than any LED. i think it would be nice that the whole secondary screen goes on with a solid color and with a pulse pattern. and even with some different shapes.
Anyone has any idea how that could be done ??
