900V stuck in bootloop after FW upgrade - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Father-in-law tried updating the firmware on my wife's SM-G900V and now it's stuck in a boot loop. I am able to get it into download mode and recovery (I've cleaned the cache and factory reset it dozens of times), and I have been able to flash the latest marshmallow and lollipop images using Odin (passes with no issues), but it's still stuck in the boot loop.
When I get home from work tonight my plan is to try some of the "debricking" and or "rooting" guides I've found on this site:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...images-hardbrick-recovery-plan-t3387010/page1
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve.../testers-required-easier-root-method-t3561529
Should one of these do the trick, or will I be wasting my time and should be trying something else? Thanks in advance for your advice/help!

I have not tried the first method so I cannot say if it will work for a stock debrick. If you are going to use that, make sure the phone is on a PB1/PD1 firmware.
The second one is rooting the phone. I have usedthis one with both CIDs and have had no issues. Since the phone wont boot, you might not be able to locate the CID, so please read the following thread before starting:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/help/to-id-cid-15-loading-app-t3756413
UPDATE: Also, Here is a link to a firmware with the pit file:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...rmware-pit-verizon-samsung-galaxy-s5-t3757416
You may want to try that first before doing the other ones. Having a pit file during the firmware install sometimes helps to fix it.
Try it, see if it works, if you have any more issues, let me know.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the quick reply!
I updated the pit file and didn't get any errors from Odin. I think the issue I'm stuck with is I don't know what original firmware was on here, so I randomly pick on of the many available ones (like I mentioned previously, I've tried Lollipop and Marshmallow). This time I tried this one:
G900VVRU2BPB1_G900VVZW2BPB1_G900VVRU2BPB1_HOME.tar
The phone actually boots up and I hear the music of it booting up, but the screen doesn't come one. I can still get to recovery and download mode (but I can't see what I'm doing). Is this a matter of just working my way through the list of firmwares until I find the one that works?
Thanks again

Do you see the "Samsung Galaxy S5" logo when it first boots up? It sounds like the screen went bad.

It depends on which firmware I flash it with.....usually I get the logo as it's in the bootloop. The only change was when I used that PB1 firmware and it actually booted, minus the screen....

Try going into Download/Odin Mode and (first grab some binoculars LOL!) take a look at the top (small letter) information and (you may want to write it down) see what the device information states there.
It just seems as though you may have a specific variant of the S5 that may have been unlocked and flashed to the one you believe that you have...
... OR you are correct with the Variant but, are trying to flash the wrong Firmware Version (one of the previous releases) and the device is preventing it.
I think that it may be the first assumption but, I could be wrong...

Product name is correct.
I'd flash this one: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=818070582850486654
It's the latest firmware with full-wipe.
The first boot should take 12-15 min.
If the phone does not boot within 20 min. it will mean a hardware problem.

Can flash firmware but cannot access Recovery

I'm new here so please bear with me. I've been reading up on these forums and other places all over the internet. Currently, I'm not sure what the problem is with my device. I can boot into download mode but never in recovery.
First off, I got this phone from someone else and it was bricked when I got it. I've tried flashing and I've got the "Fused 3: Binary 2" when trying to flash different stock files. If I'm correct, this means the last person should have tried to upgrade it to the latest Kitkat firmware. I've been using Odin 3.07, 3.09, and even 1.85 to see if the flash is just bad in one version or the others. However, each version will flash the latest firmware that Sammobile give me just fine (or at least appears so).
I've even tried flashing a pit file (HLTE_USA_VZW_32G.pit) but that really does nothing. If I flash the pit file and then flash the firmware alone 2 time back to back... it will show its attempting to go into recovery ONCE but fail and go into a never ending bootloop. Sometimes after a flash it will even bootloop trying to go into recovery automatically.
I haven't read anyone who has had it happen like this and I'm not sure if I'm in a soft-brick or in a weird hard-brick. Any suggestions?

the fact you can get into download modes shows you're not hard brick. Make sure you are downloading the correct firmware, since I don't know what you were running the safest approach would be to download NC4 Firmware, pit file, and use odin 3.10. Now flash the pit file, then flash the firmware in the PDA/PA spot. Restart you phone, on boot up hold home and I believe the down power button to get into recovery, select factory restore, and restart.
Yeah, definitely check which firmware you have. Make sure it's for the N900V. The leaked nc2 came with either missing or broken recovery, so don't odin that. Verify the md5 code after you download both the pit and the tar.md5. I'm pretty sure odin does this, but check just in case.

I'm pretty sure my phone needs N900VVRUCNC4_N900VVZWCNC4_N900VVRUCNC4_HOME.tar because its the only one that successfully flashed in Odin. I have a new theory that may have something to do with it. My phone battery is completely dead so maybe that is a failsafe for recovery mode? I know people say the battery needs to be a certain % charged before doing any flashing. Perhaps its due to the fact it won't boot into recovery proper until the battery is at a certain charge? I sort of think it could be the case.
Since it won't charge due to boot loop... I had to do a bad flash and reproduce the results I got a day ago. I did a bad flash that won't send the device into a bootloop and rather straight into a charge state. I'm going to get the battery to 100% and try a flash with the above firmware again. Perhaps recovery will actually work with the battery at 100%. I will keep update with the results.
Battery is at 100% now but it still will not boot into recovery. I flash the .pit file and then the firmware file stated above. I try different combinations all to no fix. I'm still stuck in a bootloop.
I don't understand really. The phone seems to be soft-bricked obviously... so there is a way to salvage... I just can't seem to get it to work. Any thoughts on what I can try from here?

the link provided above will fix your phone. Follow the steps exactly and you will be good to go.
Since I cannot start my phone, I can't root it under "Steps for Retail Edition" I have to skip straight to step 10 and flashing that files does not work.Unified_KK_Firmware_RE.tar So, am I screwed or what else is there to do?

The Unified_kk is not the full firmware. It's only the radio, recovery, etc.
But to verify from a previous post, you tried the full firmware for nc4?
When you boot to download mode, in the upper left corner there is some info and codes. What are they on your phone?

Ok. Everything seems right to me. It's definitely not you!
What info did you get from the previous owner? When you bought it did they tell you it was bricked and what they did to brick it?

I was told nothing really. They just told me that it boot looped and it was stuck on the "Firmware Upgrade has Encountered an Issue" screen. It was more so a gamble really. The phone looks impeccable so it seems to be rather new. Maybe the owner had flashed it before and tool the OTA, soft-bricking it... I don't know. I just know that its last flash was 4.4 KK because it wouldn't let me downgrade firmware.
I'm not quite sure what else you could look at doing here. You seem to be doing everything right, but not getting the right results.
The following is an option:
Seems to me that the previous owner did something "unofficial" that caused this. If it was something official, it would've easily been accepted as a replacement via warranty situation. But instead, they got rid of it!
---------- Post added at 07:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:26 AM ----------
Actually, there is one more thing you can try. You should never do this because there is too high a risk of bricking if you do something wrong. But you are already pretty bricked, so what else have you got to lose?

Go check this out, and nand erase all during the odin flash.

Trying to flash back to stock.....Model mismatch

I get model mismatch every single time, I have downloaded the right firmware.. Downloaded the one said to do 5 DIFFERENT ONES that are all essentially the same, I rooted succesffully, then tried to flash xposed and failed obv.
.."Stock-S7-EDGE-ATT_G935AATT2APG1.zip"
"AP_G935AUCS2APF2_CL7617530_QB9897831_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5"
Etc. Idk what to do anymore, stuck in download or recovery mode.
"Downloaded the one said to do 5 DIFFERENT ONES that are essentially the same," what does that mean? You downloaded the firmware zip file that had 5 seperate files in it, and they're all essentially the same? See how you quoted one of the files inside? Notice how it starts with "AP"? In odin, you click the AP button, then add that file in that AP slot. Then the one that starts with "BL" in the BL slot, and so on and so forth, until you have all 5 files in their respective slots. THEN you start the flashing process. Did you do that? If that didn't work, did you make sure the md5 number listed at the download screen match after you downloaded the zip file? Do you have an md5 checksum program on your computer? You can easily find a free one by doing a quick google search. You could also maybe try downloading and flashing a different/newer stock AT&T firmware.
As for xposed, you first need to download and install this version of the xposed apk from the xposed website: XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk
Then, if/when rooted find and flash this version of xposed framework in flashfire:
xposed-v85.1-sdk23-arm64-custom-build-by-wanam-20160530.zip
If you're not having any luck, and your phone is still stuck in download or recovery mode, you can still power it off for the time being using the following steps:
If it's in recovery mode, you'll have options listed, like "reboot system now," and, "power off device." You can toggle through each choice using the volume up and down buttons, and once you highlight the one you want, hit the power button to select it. You can go to "power off device" in recovery mode and turn your phone off for now if you don't want to have to worry about it. If your phone is in download mode, it'll either be at the warning screen where you can hit volume up to continue, or volume down to cancel and restart the phone. If it is all the way in download mode, it'll say "downloading... do not turn off target !!" If it is on the warning screen, just continue into into download mode. If it is in download mode already, or you just continued into download mode, and you want to turn the phone off, press and hold volume up, volume down, power, and home button and hold them all down at the same time until the phone shuts off. Immediately after, let go of all the buttons, and then press and hold the volume up, home, and power buttons until the phone comes back on, and in the top left corner, in blue, it'll say "Recovery booting." It is then that you let go of all the buttons. You will enter recovery there and be able to power the device off.
Anyway, I hope you already got it fixed, and if not, I hope this information helped. I'm not trying to be mean, but you really need to search through all of the forums, read everything, read people's comments for information on how to do these sort of things properly, and how to fix the problems. Rooting, installing custom roms and xposed is a little different on newer devices now. Mistakes can be much more costly now than they used to be, so unless you've read thoroughly on such processes, and/or have found a youtube video that helps and you're feeling confident about it, you might want to reconsider attempting to apply these kinds of changes to your phone. If you have any friends that are good at this stuff, maybe that would be another way as well. Anyway, best of luck to you.
Try Odin 3.12.3 or PrinceComsy version It work for me. My case was that I upgrade to the firmware 935u version bootloader v4 and I wanted go back to PH1 that the bootloader is v2. Make sure to do factory reset before do any flash with odin (I don't know if that matter but works for me). Hope this work for you.

If you are trying to flash the stock ROM and you are on different bootloaders you are going to run into issues. I THINK (and could be wrong), you may be on version 4 (based off of the "AP SWREV: B4(2,1,1,1,1) K1 S3") again, I'm not positive on my assumption here, but, if that's the case you need to flash a stock ROM that is on version 4 of the bootloaders, something like G935AUCS4API2 (BL4)

So you are on V4 Bootloaders, and API2, which is the current stock release.
I would
Download the stock API2 ROM from HERE and put them all on your desktop
Open Odin
In Recovery mode, wipe the device
Restart the phone in Download Mode then plug the phone into the PC
Put the downloaded files to their slots in Odin, and hit start

OMG thank you guys so much, after a thousand tries.. it ended up being the files you linked (Which were the original files i used the very first time) I just never did the factory reset!!! after doing the reset and trying again!! its currently started actually through the process, instead of saying model mismatch ! hopefully it does the entire thing with no errrors!! THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH...

Yes I'm trying to flash the stock firmware but I flashed the rooted bootloader in Odin I think, lol so that may be why I'm having issues. Cause mine fails every single time for the att version and it's driving me nuts and I can't find any video tutorial on it at all, and smart switch won't work with the att one lol Dicks

Sorry to come back to the party so late. Things have been hectic here. I'm glad these guys were able to get you all fixed up.

PLEASE HELP. SOFT BRICK. ODIN back to stock gives boot loop.

Please someone help me. I've spent countless hours readying and trying different methods to fix my phone.
Background
1)Bought S5 in 2014. Rooted with towel root. Did not install any recoveries or mess with bootloader. Used phone for 2 year without a problem. Bought S7 and put S5 in a drawer for past year. Fired up the S5 a week ago and used for 2 days without a problem.
2)Phone just randomly crashed while using camera. Tried starting it up and it went to permanent boot loop (Flashing of Samsung S5 screeen). Went into recovery to factory reset but phone continued to flash start up screen and not boot.
3) I tried rooting/unlocking with odin/safestrap method in this post "https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/testers-required-easier-root-method-t3561529/post71202995#post71202995 "
4) I have 15' EMMC phone. The phone booted up after odin flash of "COMBINATION_VZW_FA44_G900VVRU2APA1_VZW2APA1_2572656_REV00_user_mid_noship_MULTI_CERT.tar" and I made it through the rest of steps until the last step.
5) Upon flashing EMMC_15_VZW_QB2_STOCK_MAGISK_ROOT.zip the phone went into bootloop/flashing Samsung s5 screen.
6) I tried using odin to restore to PB1 stock as mentioned in this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72152905&postcount=3
7) I used odin to flash S5_KLTE_USA_VZW.pit. Then odin to flash G900V_Firmware_PB1.tar.md5. Finally, I used odin to flash G900VVRU2BPB1_G900VVZW2BPB1_G900VVRU2BPB1_HOME.tar.md5. Again, the phone just goes into flashing the samsung s5 screen.
8) Trying to enter recovery mode, just results in looping of samsung screen with "blue recovery" in the top left corner.
9) I tried repeating step 4 above but after odin of "combination" file, it goes right back to boot loop.
10) My download mode screen says:
Current binary: Samsung official
System Status: Custom
Reactivation lock: Off
qualcom secure boot: enable (csb)
Secure download: enable
Please please help.

Sounds like my old note 4. Had a emmc failure. Could flash firmwares but would never boot. It did roughly the same. Thing you described above.

This is exactly what happened to me, after using Odin to flash G900V_Firmware_PB1.tar.md5 from the said thread you mention my phone failed to boot normally again, The phone booted up after using Odin to flash "COMBINATION_VZW_FA44_G900VVRU2APA1_VZW2APA1_2572656_REV00_user_mid_noship_MULTI_CERT.tar" but when plugged out of the charger/system it will keep vibrating and rebooting none stop.
Please have you find the location to your own problem, if yes please kindly post how you resolved it, but if No, I think @jrkruse, @GeTex, and other dev should help us on this, please.

Yes I could flash any rom and or file within reason of coarse.
but would never come off sammy logo every now and then it would make it to a optimizing apps page didnt matter if it was stock roms or aosp or stock firmware unrooted through odin.
Now again this was a note 4 but does seem similar

So can I flash a new motherboard? Cause I sure don't know how to replace a motherboard. (JK about flashing one)
Uggh, so I guess I'm stuck with a new paper weight. That pretty much blows.

Yeah that does suck if you put that pit in the pit slot and put that tar in ap and clicked start and it flashes then reboots and does nothing but stay on the Samsung screen then you have some sort of hardware issue which might require a motherboard replacement.
The PIT file isn't always necessary for flashing the stock Firmware back in a device.
When obtaining the Stock Firmware, be sure it is the equivalent or later release from what you have. Very few S5 Firmware Versions can be downgraded so be sure that yours can before attempting a downgrade or you may end up with a Soft/Hard Bricked Device.
Typically the following steps are taken:
1) Enter download mode on your device then plug it into the USB cable connected to the PC.
2) Open Odin and be sure that the it's seeing the COM port number for the device.
3) Place the Firmware image in the PDA/AP spot.
4) Be sure that the ONLY options that are selected (or checked off) is the "F. Reset Time" and the "Auto Reboot" & NOTHING ELSE.
5) Press the Start button.
That should be it and, hopefully, these steps work for you.
***EDIT: I had attached an Example screenshot of the ODIN display so that you can see an example of what's reflected in ODIN regarding what the options should be.

You need to install using odin the last update avaliable for G900V. The last update is QF2. Download from updato and flash it..
If this not work. Idk what happens.

What firmware files do I need to complete reflash my Note 4 SM-N910F?

I got a bricked Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (910F) vodafone branded.
it's totally broken I can't start it, can't go into recovery (the hardware buttons are OK).
I can only go into download mode.
tried flashing everything with odin back to stock. followed many different instructions and now I'm lost.
can someone tell me what exact files I need?
I think I have the right firmware downloaded BUT what about the bootloader? on sammobile under germany-vodafone there are so many different versions which one shall I choose?
AND: Do I need CSC? if so which one and where to find? Couldn't find it on sammobile.
And am I right with putting the bootloader under BL, the firmware under AP, the CP (whatever this is) under CP, the csc under csc?
repartition unchecked as I read somewhere.
I still don't understand what this "pit" file is for and I'm not sure if I have the right one.. never had a phone with sooo many different firmware files..
I'm used to flash via fastboot "recovery.img, boot.img, system.img" odin is a new thing for me
HELP PLEASEEE :'(
the reactivation lock is on.

The note 4 firmware is usually only 1 file that contains all you need. It contains the bootloader and CSC that you pick during download. Just pick the CSC for your country.
This is unless you get a 4 file repair firmware, which contains separate bootloader, system, and CSC files.
The pit file is only needed to repartition your device.
But with all off that aside, you state that your activation lock is activated. These means the phone was password protected.
If you tell me your country, I can at least point you to the correct firmware. So at least you'll know you got the correct one.
But as far as the activation lock, I can't help with that. "Google"
Edit. I now see you mentioned Germany Voda.
So here's the most current firmware for your device.
https://fws03.updato.com/GALAXYNOTE4/SM-N910F/TCL/SM-N910F_1_20171228192640_l5rw6mqv67.zip
Download and unzip.
Then if it's just 1 file that's .md5 then you put it in AP slot.
If it's 4 files put them in appropriate slots.

This reactivation lock doesn't matter I found a solution how to bypass it when the phone is set up running android.
my question is, is it possible to flash firmware to the note4 at all with reactivation lock on? Or is that just an android thingy?
And yes please that would be nice if you show me the right firmware.
My model:
N910F GSMH
I believe it is vodafone branded because when it once worked it showed a vodafone logo while starting up.
my country is Germany.
I hope thats enough info :/

I believe it should still flash with lock. If it isn't flashing something is wrong.
If you can't get Odin to flash that firmware try this and see what happens.
Download TWRP and flash it. Can you boot into recovery then? If so download a custom rom and flash it and see what happens.
TWRP: https://eu.dl.twrp.me/trlte/twrp-3.2.1-0-trlte.img.tar
Do you have Samsung drivers installed on PC? http://developer.samsung.com/common/download/check.do?actId=698
Do you have a good Odin? https://dl.sammobile.com/Odin3-v3.13.1.zip

I have the right latest samsung drivers installed yes.
I have the Odin version you just sent a link of. ( I also tried different older versions but no success).
I can't boot into recovery doesn't work. the hardware buttons are 100% working as I have to press vol+ to confirm to go into download mode.
I tried flashing TWRP and CWM both didn't work "custom recovery blocked by A/L error".
I can successfully flash firmware with Odin. It says "PASS" and then the phone reboots and is stuck on Samsung Logo. and sometimes it just shows blue text "recovery booting" but is stuck. nothing happens.

Thanks for the link I'm downloading.
After flashing odin says PASS and my note 4 reboots. then there are 2 cases which in my view appear randomly. Either it shows the samsung logo and is stuck.
OR it shows the samsung logo and a blue little text in the upper left corner saying "recovery booting" and is stuck. I waited like 5 minutes. shall I wait longer? :/ hm..I'll try
OH and sometimes the screen just goes black idk if it really turns off after getting stuck on samsung logo.
Pull the battery, leave it out for 10+ minutes
Put battery back in
Boot to download mode (Power + Vol Down + Home)
Then try (re)flashing stock ROM via odin, i would try the earliest you can find to have the best chance, you can always flash a later one if you get it running
Better range of ROMS from sammobile, i never use updato for that reason: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note4/SM-N910F/VD2/
If none of that works, then its likely you have a hardware fault ...emmc or other

So I tried flashing. after flashing OH WONDER it said recovery booting and then it showed this green android logo thing with a rotating icon in it "you know what I mean" but then it stopped and just turned off.. I could freak out really.. I tried flashing again. same issue. I could then press the recovery mode key combo to get into this rotating android logo screen but everytime it just freezes and turns off. yes the battery is fully charged before I started flashing this firmware now. I flashed the one u said the earliest. So Now I tried the one the other guy here showed me. didn't work either. it just gets stuck at samsung logo. I found a repair firmware for my model containing (pit, bl, ap, cp, csc and odin) I flashed all but odin fails "write error". I then tried odin v3.0.7 but then it got stuck while flashing the system image. I waited like 1 hour. nothing. tried it again. nothing it freezes on the same position. I then tried the same on the latest versions of odin v3.12.3, 3.12.7 and on 3.13.1 but it also freezes on system.img.ext4 image flashing..

doesnt work. I tried several versions of smartswitch AND samsung kies. nothing works it always says my model is not supported. I reinstalled drivers. tried on another pc. tried another usb port. yes I'm using the original stock usb cable. model not supported. But I've also read that in other threads that the 910F model seems to be unknown by kies or smartswitch. I'm rly starting to hate samsung now. I have never ever had so many problems with flashing and so on.

afaik the "repair" fimeware is no better than flashing a stock ROM in one file...
its startng to sound like a hardware error, if it cant even write to the dvice theres really not many (probably any) options left.
ive purposely bricked a phone and recovered it (not recommended of course), ive never had or never saw as much effort youve put in to try and recover a phone...

me neither.. can't believe this.. how can a phone be physically damaged by flashing? paid 70 bugs for a note 4 with a software issue.. as I often do. recovered dead phones from sony, xiaomi, wiko, asus, lg, huawei etc... adb, fastboot and u good to go. odin is killin me.. gonna sell it as bricked.

HOW? If I can't boot into recovery mode?

bricked sm-t580

i have the T580 32GB of a friend here, that does not work at the moment (and maybe never again ) - the problem is that on startup it only gives this message in red letter :
could not do normal boot invalid kernel length

the only thing i can do is get into download mode - but i fail when i try to install a stock rom via odin - after NAND Write Start!! it times out and gives me a fail.
i already tried a 3 different odin versions and adroid 6.0, 7.0 and 8.01 Stock Rom for SM-T580 but no luck so far.
another problem is my friend does not know what the android version he was on before that hapend - and the tablet has Samsung FRP on.
maybe some of the experts here have an advice what i can try otherwise this tab a is really bricked - furthermore i wonder how this could happen as my friend swears he did not try to put twrp or anything else onto the tablet ....
Have you tried flashing TWRP using ODIN? (AP Slot)
i do not know if flashing twrp is a good idea as i do not know if oem unlock is enabled - and as it does not boot up i cannot switch it on in developer options

Wouldn't it simply fail if OEM unlocking was disabled? I don't know honestly. I'd try it if no other solutions come up.

I think you are going about it wrong. Instead of booting to download mode, try booting to recovery mode via Home, Vol Up and Power and then selecting Factory Reset. This is always necessary before you can use download to flash a ROM via Odin and it might make using Odin unnecessary.
of course i tried to get into receovery mode but the problem is i can't - when i do home, vol up and power absolutely nothing happens, i only get into download mode
edit: i believe FRP is the Problem this prevents odin from writing the files to the tablet - as it allways times out with :
Complete(Write) operation failed.

what i do not really understand is why FRP does not let odin flash an original samsung firmware ?
[QUOTE what i do not really understand is why FRP does not let odin flash an original samsung firmware ?[/QUOTE]
This sounds more like a binary issue. I have reason to believe you are what's called an FRP Binary Lock. Recovery is usually inaccessable or re-routed and you cannot "seem" to use Odin3 but in fact you can. This issue you apparently are having sounds oddly like some issues I've had on these devices and is often a result of bad Rooting or invalid firmware being installed. This overloads the binaries and puts the device in a locked mode with symptoms of an inaccessible Recovery a difficult to use Odin3 or a bootloop. Most of the time I hear of a notification somewhere of an FRP lock. If this is the situation you are in here is a link to a page of mine that will give you the files to helpfully solve your issue. Let me know if that works or not.

it sounds like i am in the same situation and i tried your files but it does not let me download them through odin - i also wrote you a pm maybe you find the time to answer me.
i really wonder how this could happen as my friend swears he did never try to flash anything onto the tab, and i really believe him as he absolutely knows nothing about flashing or where to get a firmware and not even how to get into dl mode ....

The situation I was suspecting is a "Custom Binaries are Blocked by FRP Lock" to which you would have seen a notification of it in one of 4 ways. Your situation is somewhat similar because you cannot access Recovey and although Download Mode is accessable it appears useless. Your device is not Bricked. A bricked device is unusable in any way and these days most devices can be restored.
You do seem to be having some difficulties that are usually common with binary issues. You can in fact use Odin3 but how is the question. Usually one can flash in the Stock firmware and that returns the device to normal. When it becomes impossible to flash in stock firmware or anything else it seems, to my experiance has always been a Binary issue. I will provide a link to the 4File Official firmware. And instructions for you to properly use it for your needs.
SM-T580 Official Stock Firmware 4Files

I'll assume you know something about using Odin3. Unzip the file to your desktop. There are 4 files but you'll only use 3 of them. You can use the patched version of Odin3.13B or you can use Odin3.14. Place the files in their respective places. BL, and AP are easy enough to see where they go. Now there is a file labeled CSC and one labeled HOME CSC. You will only use one of them. The CSC file returns your app data to factory settings (it erases everything). The Home CSC file keeps the app data. So it's your choice which one you choose. These are Official Firmware Files so you should be able to flash them in. Should that not work for you my most likely answer would be that your binaries are the issue and that is why you can't as of yet use Odin sucessfully. Does Odin even try to initiate a flash then stalls or does it do nothing altogether?
There are two different Binary files for the SM-T580 that I have. I would suggest using the Binary 4 FRP first. f I recall correctly the Odin3.13B patched version was made for this. Place the file in the AP section and try flashing it. You should get a few gears on the screen turning if it applied, or maybe not. If that fails use the U4 Binary Unlock file. It is only after you flash in the binary files that you can then install the Stock Firmware. It is the overloaded binaries that prevent the use of Odin as you may be experiancing. I am also including the Knox cleaner in case you need to reset it.

U4 Binaries. This is two files. Flash one at a time using the AP section. They are labeled 1rst or 2nd

Knox Cleaner: Also flashed in using the AP section of Odin3

Good Luck and let me know if this helps or not.

Only if they could get into Recovery they may be able to reset it.
I have never once needed to go to Recovery to do "anything" before using Odin3 to flash.
The only time I've had to go there (repetedly) and reset was when trying to get past FRP Google Account Protection. Sometimes it takes out the page I want to get to and I need to reset it to get to it again. This is "not" always neccesary before flashing a ROM which rewrites the device programing.
sorry for double post
@Casper Young
thanks for your help so far, i am gonna try your suggestions on weekend when i have a bit more spare time - hope i can get the tab running again
