Hi guys,
I'm proud user of galaxy s5 and I dont want to switch to another phone. I have a problem with battery performance. I already bought new battery and calibrated it. I also made some free space on internal storage. Now on power saving mode it lasts almost 16 hours when i don't use any apps. When I start to use apps like messenger or 9gag it drops to 6 hours.
I mostly use phone to browse some news and play small games. I don't need huge performance for these games. I want to focus on battery performance. Currently I'm running Phoenix ROM v15.
So finally here is my question. What experiences with ROM's you have? Which you are using and how is your battery performance on it? Is there good custom ROM for me or should I go back to stock ROM?
Thanks!

Guys,
Does the CM6.0/6.1 Android 2.2 give better battery life than the stock 2.1-update 1 rom??
Im happy to wait for HTC for the official 2.2 rom, however if the battery life is better then im rooting as soon as the 6.1 is released..
Angelo
No idea m8. Guess you have to wait and see as the rest of us

I dont really know I've overclocked it as soon as i installed it and I can do 52hours with the battery. (Almost the same as the non overclocked stock ROM )
Try taskpanel its not in the market but you can find it on google. I've tried lots of other taskkillers but thisone really sticks out in terms of increasing battery life. You need to tel it what to kill when screen goes off but once you did that you'll see a huge improvement.
Depends solely on usage, imo. I broke a record on my Legend recently, but that only included ~15mins speaking in phone, rest was regular usage such as apps, market, wake up alarms etc. Posted a print screen from it, had to leech and install ShootMe first, though ^^ http://i.imgur.com/L5Vaj.png
Regards!
yes it does, now my phone can handle up to 2 days with slightly heavy use, (was like 1 day prev.) i mean mosty its on standby, but sync/hsdpa on all day + im useing gmaps, games etc, but i needed to reset the battery stats, but genearlly my answer is yes!
del it pls, repost
It's not directly related, but if you're rooted you can use SetCPU to clock your processor all the way down when it's not necessary to run it at top speed. And yes, this in itself has greatly improved my battery life.
thanks all,
sounds like rooting and using 2.2 would increase battery life because you can use setCPU...
thanks again
I got a 100% stock tab, and on monday i got a really long flight. Im going to use it to watch movies. What are you guys best tips to make the battery last as long as possible? Kernel, rom, ordinary tips?
Thanks for any help!

Turn-off WiFi, GPS, BT.
Stop every non essential background apps. (settings/applications/all menu)
Set minimum brightness - about 10-20%. After that your tab should consume about 500mA.
Chose video format which can be handled by hardware decoder, CPU will add about 100-150mA to the mix.
Use moderate volume with headphones.
So, you are looking at 600-650mA current consumption which should yield a bit more then 10 hours of entertainment. That's about max movie time you can get out of your tab.
Rooting and adding a custom rom will really be the best to improve battery. I rooted my brand new 10.1 last night, and isntalled the In Paris V5 rom. I then proceeded to customize and play on the tab for about 4-5 hours more. When I went to plug it in for bed, it still have 54% battery left.
The In Paris V5 rom is very smooth and i have not run into any bugs yet. Def a great rom.

Did you compare/test stock ROM vs. custom on a subject of current consumption?
Or you are just saying...

Just saying what my experience was with battery life on a rooted/rom'd device.
Mine wasnt stock for more than a day and i didnt really play with it all that much because I didn't have time.
I can say tho, the overall UI is much more responsive and smooth being rooted and rom'd. MUCH better than stock. It's so easy to do too, I would recommend it even to novice users. (with the helpful hand of an experience user to guide them along)
Guys,
I no longer use this phone as my phone but I still love using it for games and music and for the kids. What would you recommend as the best performing ROM for this. I want something clean and simple that will allow me to run the stream Pandora, Google Music and games.
thanks!
For gaming, any ICS ROM will do (e.g. NexusHD2) but I'm not sure about pandora and Google Music. Never tried pandora but Google Music seems to work fine for me (bear in mind I mean only listening to music via the app, being in the UK that's all I can use it for)
Pandora is working without problems on ics cm9 from tytung, im not American but Orbot app is giving me chance to use Pandora as American ;-)
About playing games i would suggest you to use Gingerbread roms maybe something like Dorimanx rom.
Also there is script on xda forum which can temporarily disables unused services and apps even sms and call function so you can play games with better performance also.
As alternative buy Ram manager app which have hard gaming mode, again you'll have more resources for gaming.
how is the battery usage on those ICS ROMs? I am using an NRG rom and it works good but I know it might not be optimal for battery drain. I would put low drain very high on my list.
It's not as good as in GB. But 1,5 day is possible without charging.

I have AOK-Paranoid Android ROM on my HD2, and I have to say that my battery life is pretty horrible. Less than 8 hours with very little use...
However, since this is a used phone I got from a friend, I can't say if the problem lies with the ROM or the condition of the battery itself.
I just ordered a new battery off amazon and hopefully that will improve things considerably. I'll let you know what kind of battery life I get with the new one.
If you are not an "update addicted", then HyperDroid ROM might be the best.
It's based on Gingerbread, compiled from source, really fast, stable and "light".
By the way, anyone else have such horrible battery performance with their HD2 and Android ROMs, or is it just me?

Battery life actually depends on alot of factors. For example, the number of running apps and how many times it wakes the phone, how long the screen is turned on, what apps you use, the kernel, signal strength.

Of course I know this, but there is always a rom wich has better batteri life than others when you have standard usage of your phone..
Lets call this 30 sms daily
10 mails daily
15 minutes browsing news with browser
1 hour of call time
2 mms
And a couple of facebook updates
When you play games and things like that is a whole other story. But most of the time the rom with the best battery will always have the best battery either you play a lot, surf a lot and so on...
I have i9500 cm11 ROM nightly. Version 20140105 and it drains battery. 43% is android os. 7 hours and 5 hours I didn't use the phone. What should I do?
When I had issues, I installed GSAM battery monitor and got more details. Shows when it was using more data, was awake, was using phone signal or wifi, battery temperatures..... For me it was some media files that were not processing well, so I had to drop in some .nomedia files.
Try to download Wakelock Detector from the Play Store and see the root that causes it. For example, the last time with stock rom, I have issues with Google Play Services with NIPcollector issues that keep on waking the phone without letting it to fall into deep sleep causing a huge battery drain. The solutions, Wakelock terminator, can be download in Play Store aswell. The free version of wakelock terminator only let you terminate 1 services which is just enough for my case. If you have more than one services causing lots of wakelock, consider getting the donate version.
Do use Greenify to hibernate unused apps aswell, it does really helps. :good:
if u are looking for low battery drain then stay away from custom roms especially cm based roms.
not only they drain the battery fast because they are badly ported or whatever but also they are missing samsungs energy saver mode which does save alot of battery. (only enable cpu and u will never notice its on)
so if u really want to use a custom rom then atleast get a tw rom.
my best experience for best battery on my s2, s4 and note 3 is original stock rom with bloatware removed, energy saver mode on (cpu only) and xposed+xblast module.
that way i got best battery on my s4 (almost 6 hours on screen time or 3 days standby time), all tw features and all features i want from a custom rom.
also on every android phone in my house i had a battery drain while having wlan on in standby mode.
i noticed this not when having the screen on... only like at night when the screen was off.
this took me about 1 day standby time... so ihad only 2 days standby and not like now 3 days.
lost like 10-15% every night while doing nothing. now its 1-2% every night.
this wasn't the fault of any apps installed or anything else. only thing which help me with this was buying a new router.
after researching which one would help me with this problem i decided to buy this one. cheap and also very good and alot of settings.
http://www.amazon.de/Edimax-BR-6228nS-Wireless-LAN-Access-Points/dp/B004XIE2T0
other then that NEVER use geenify or any other battery tools. they will not help at all...
only app that could help is betterbatterystats.

I'm glad you are speaking only from your own experience, because many people have had different experiences. I get as good as or better battery life with CM11 over TW on my i9500. Many others have said the same.
BTW, CM for the S4 is not a "port."

1) Download a newer nightly. Lots of progress has been made on CM11 in 4 months.
2) Backup your data, do full wipes and a clean install.

cmon man. it's ok if u like cm and all. thats ur thing.
but don't say u got same as good battery like on tw rom... then u ain't know what u talking about.
if u say something like that its clearly that u never had a good running system and probably cm on ur phone since u bought it.
but i agree he could solve that high android os drain due a fresh clean new install/full wipe (probably even with the same version he has on the phone right now)
battery would be still alot worse then on tw roms with stock kernel
Check this. If it is the same issue, it doesn't depend on the ROM, but on the carrier.

thanks for helping guys. I have found out that the music player doesn't give the phone to fall into deep. i want to move to be not system app and to put it on hibernate. how can i check if the app "/system /app mover" works on rom cm11 ? cant it break my phone?
thanks
Clicking the battery in settings will give some information.
I had the problem in past week (i9505 S4 running stock 4.3), where Google Play Store inexplicably was unable to connect to the server. As a result, it kept trying to connect and fail repeatedly, and draining battery severely. Tried all the fixes to reconnect Play Store with server to no avail. Ended up doing a hard reset, and this fixed it. Battery consumption now back to normal.
