This is very annoying, I have spent the whole morning trying to find a solution for this issue. The battery runs out already fast as it is, and now the phone is not
Battery drained about 20% at night by itself. Currently draining about 1-2% per 5 minutes when idle. What do I do? I have looked on various different threads for a solution, but did not find anything to fix this issue.
How do I fix this?

I had my phone at home, I prefer the phone to use WiFi networks when syncing and updating, but to have phone turn them automatically off when not using them, that is when the phone is locked and not syncing and updating anything. But apparently it doesn't do that, it has WiFi on at all times for some reason. And I don't know if its related to WiFi, it doesn't appear to go to "deep sleep"

For me, it was the last Google Maps update. Try to disable "Reporting Location" and "Location History" under Location settings on Google Settings app(the one with the green icon). I had around 25% drain over night and half of it came from this.
Try it and see if this can help you.

Leaving wifi on while sleeping itself is not good for our health anyway, so if you have data switch to 2G, its at least enough to keep internet messages coming while saving battery. And if its wifi wise, apply pm.sleep_mode=1 in your build.prop. AND, scroll up a little, wifi_supplicant_can_interval(something like that, from its SHOULD BE 15 change to 300-600).
Disable unused apps and use greenify.

Thank you for the answer, but sadly it didn't seem to do it. My WiFi is still always on, even though I have it set to turn off when phone is sleeping at WiFi advanced settings.
Although the phone entered deep sleep mode when I manually turned WiFi off, but I'm not sure if that was the case.

I understand, but I forgot to do so, I actually have an app that turns on air plane mode at certain time. But that still doesn't fix the issue that the phone doesn't enter sleep mode with WiFi on and doesn't turn it off, even though it's set to do so.
Also I did not quite understand what you were telling me there, as I got the phone last week and it's my first android phone. The app you suggested could cut it, but that means that whenever there will be an auto check for news sequence I will be downloading it with mobile data? Is there an app that could cause this?
I was about to update on this, but I just got notification about 4.3 update. :laugh:
I will update this post, if this problem still exists.
UPDATE : Of course, still the problem persists, Phone goes to sleep when I have Wi-Fi turned off. But when on, even though I have it set to turn off during sleep mode, it keeps the phone wake and drains the battery.

By the time I answered 2 emails and made 1 short phonecall and checked on battery logs from 2 different apps, and changed my wallpaper, battery has dropped to 33%. I'm not proud.

Unfortunately this is normal, the battery life is not the best feature of nexus 4. How many screen on time hours do you get averagely?
This fixed the Wifi always on issue for me.
Turn WiFi on: Settings, WiFi, Menu (3 dots upper right hand corner), advanced, uncheck scanning always on.

I picked up a T2 on Thursday morning coming from a Maxx, and after the first day I felt I wasn't getting quite the battery life I should. After watching the battery stats and doing some research, the issue seems to be due to Lollipop's well-documented cell standby bug. Coming from KitKat I have been pretty frustrated by this, as my T2 will sometimes drain 5% or more in an hour of idling if WiFi (or possibly Bluetooth) is on, and seems to drain much faster with use if WiFi is on. (Note that all of this is taking place in areas with very strong 4g and WiFi signal).
When WiFi is turned on, Cell Standby tops the battery consumption chart by a large margin and my unscientific eyeball test suggests that the battery drains much faster.
Is anyone else having this issue? I'm considering taking the T2 back, but honestly there aren't any other new phones with comparable battery life, and it would be hard to give up the shatterproof display. Other than this I'm loving the phone and Lollipop.

I'm not having that issue at all and I leave my WiFi on pretty much all the time. I just checked mine and in 13 hrs my cell standby was 8%. Honestly idk if that's good or bad.
I guess I'll just keep an eye on it. Over this past night Cell Standby was on for 10 hours and had the Mobile Radio on for 8 hours while the phone was idle. Not sure if this is intended or not. My battery woes could just be in my head.
cell standby has been near or at the top of all 3 of my Verizon Lollipop phones so dont believe its a Turbo 2 direct issue.
I guess I'll just be patiently awaiting marshmallow then!
Try this, idk if it'll help or not but under WiFi settings under keep WiFi on during sleep, choose only when charging.

I've also read this cell standby time is related to WiFi and possible fixes are as follows. Turn off allow Google to scan for networks even if off, keep WiFi on during sleep charge only, LTE instead of global, and then go into recovery and clear cache. This is what I did and my cell drain is very low. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the tips - I changed all the settings but I'm having trouble getting into recover. When I try to launch from the bootloader I just get the dead Android with "No Command" displayed below it. Is there something I'm missing? FWIW I have dev mode on and unlock oem bootloader on.
I wouldn't turn on unlock boot loader this disables some security features and unless we have a way to truly unlock it. It's better to leave on. Dev mode doesn't affect drain issue at all. Here's link for booting into recovery.

Mine drains fast while sleeping at home. In my case, the signal is poor so the phone has to crank up the radio power, draining the battery.
UPDATE: For anyone interested, the fixes suggested in this thread seem to have done the trick for me. After changing settings and wiping cache I am getting even better battery life (7-8 hours of screen on time up from 5-6 in similar conditions). This could, of course, be due to other factors - but hey, it's worth a shot if your battery is draining quickly!

I personally have noticed that turning off mobile data when connected to WiFi helps. I have done this with previous phones
I experienced this the other day after spending the weekend in an area with spotty service. To fix all I did was reboot the phone.

Hey sorry but could you give a bit of a walkthrough for all the processes you took? Bit of a newbie here and my moto x force doesn't seem to be doing very well with the drain

My phone has not been able to get into deep sleep. For the last few days that I've checked GSam, it's always been at 0s of deep sleep. Just checked right now and after 21 hours, my phone has gotten 10s of deep sleep. I've done a search and looked through many pages of posts on some of the various battery discussion threads but I haven't been able to find anything. Does anyone have a possible remedy for this or explanation of why it's happening? Is anyone else having trouble going into deep sleep?
Mines is the same, I assume it's because I charge my phone every night, which is really the only time my phone would sit still inactive long enough to actually enter doze.
I might of fixed my draining battery issue so maybe you guys can try it out too. My issue was my phone would not go to deep sleep and would stay awake even when the phones display was off so something was keeping it up. I tried all the different methods out there including the package disabler and doing the hard reset with the cache reset. I was browsing the developer options in the settings screen and looked at my running services. I noticed that my contacts and a. Program called com.qualcomm.location had a message next to them saying restarting while all the other programs just had a countdown of how long they were running. So I clicked on each and pressed stop and I also re-downloaded the package disabler and disabled the com.qualcomm.location. after all that I synced my contacts again and just did a simple reboot and after that my phone was able to deep sleep. Now my battery is not draining like it did. So in my case those 2 apps had an issue and kept trying to reset itself so the phone was never able to sleep. I would recommend looking at your running services in the developer options. go into the running services and see if anything is trying to restart itself over and over again
So I did finally achieve deep sleep. I tried a few things from the temporary battery fix thread and I wasn't able to pin point one thing which worked, THEN, I restarted my phone and it wouldn't go into deep sleep again. I tried wiping the cache and restarted and suddenly it's going into deep sleep again....
I'll keep an eye on it and will update if anything interesting happens.
I finally charged my phone prior to going to sleep and it finally did dose last night, the phone has to be stationary to enter deep sleep

Doze and deep sleep seem to be too different things. My phone will sometimes doze without going into deep sleep. What's really weird is that sometimes my phone will randomly stop going into deep sleep and a clearing of the system cache immediately fixes this. There have been at least two times I can confirm I *only* did a cache wipe and the issue was remedied.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and why clearing the cache helps?
Anyone figure this out? Also is everyone on stock? Im rooted and on superman rom, this is happening to me every day now after i charge it over night. I have to restart my phone to fix.

I figured out that for my phone it defenitly is somehow connected to the fast-charging function.
When using the fast-charger the phone doesn't go into deepsleep anymore.
It happens as soon as the phone touches the fast-charger, it doesn't even need to fully charge for this to occur.
When charging with everything else, incl. Qi nothing happens, but as I said, after the fast-charger was connected - no deepsleep.
At least that's what I observed, no guarantee that this affects everybody.

I used cpuspy app to check on my processing and noticed my phone is not even going into deep sleep.
I have tried turning off bluetooth. Wi-Fi and also did factory reset.

I am deep sleeping after a reboot. Maybe coming off a charger it won't deep sleep? I'll continue to mess around with it.

Well my phone stopped deep sleeping again after 45 minutes. Google Play Services is claiming to be my number one battery draining but says it hasn't kept my phone awake at all. This is wrong as even on a normal day it will keep my device awake for 20-30 minutes. I attached a screen shot.
I am at 1 day 7 hours with 4:45 screen on time and 11% battery left. 8.1 has been amazing so far.

I'm having the same deep sleep problem as the rest of you. Google Play Services are going nuts as well, tons of activity, way more than normal. Some have suggested that shutting of Wi-Fi reigns in Google Play Services, but no deep sleep is still an issue. I did a factory reset too, and while deep sleep was working for a bit, now it's back to not working. File the bug reports please at the link I posted earlier. We need this fixed asap. It's making the phone unusable.

Are you saying that the deep sleep issue is related to Google Play Services working overtime, or that this is an added issue in 8.1 that also exists on your Pixel 2? Did you try shutting off Wi-Fi on your PH-1 and does it reign in Google Play Services? I reported both issues to Essential BTW, but mentioned that the Play Services issue could be related to the device being unable to go into deep sleep.

You may be on to something here. I disabled Wi-Fi and rebooted, and now I’m getting deep sleep. I will leave it overnight and check how much it was awake during the night. I left Bluetooth and Location on, but Wi-Fi is disabled. If Wi-Fi remains disabled but mobile network is enabled, does that cause issues too?
It’s really ironic that Essential abandoned Oreo 8.0 stream supposedly because of critical issues. Seems to me 8.1 has a much more critical issue. Also on this note, Google really sucks at software. It’s unreal how many bugs they have, serious ones. This is why I can never just rely on a single device.
Had deep sleep issues yesterday when the battery drastically got drained throughout half of the day while I was not using it. When it reached 30% i rebooted the phone and the drain stopped. Google Play services seems to be acting up. Let's see if it's better or worse today.
Thanks @JasonJoel, turning off WiFi and a reboot works.
But I need my wifi, so I tried Enable Doze for GMS magisk module and so far this is working with wifi enabled.

An update from this morning. It seems that disabling Wi-Fi only partially allowed deep sleep. For most of the night still my device was awake and refused to go into deep sleep. Google Play Services still seems to be quite active. Location was active all the time it seems, or most of the time. I disabled it now and only left Bluetooth on. I want to see what happens now.
Play Services seems to be the culprit here ultimately but I’m still studying the issue. Everyone needs to report this to Essential regardless.
I threw a bug report into battery historian and this what I found:
This is the basic graph. I only captured about an hour and half of battery stats through this. First thing you'll notice is yes, the cpu running is a solid black bar. No deep sleep. Next thing is to see that the screen and userspace wakelocks pretty completely overlap. I believe if Google Play services was keeping my phone awake it would show in userspace wakelocks. So you can see that kernel only uptime is the thing that is keeping my phone awake when the screen and userspace wakelock are not. So I should be able to mouse over the kernel only uptime and see why its keeping it awake.
All of the occurrences have the same reason for waking up "No wakeup reason". So the kernel is keeping the phone from sleeping but doesn't know why. This sounds like a firmware bug to me. Although, this does say the yes to "Source CPU running event caused by userspace". I don't know know quite what to make of that.
Thoughts? I will send this all to Essential too.
That’s really good detail. It very well could be a kernel bug. I am still going after the Google Play Services angle so I installed the latest beta version of Google Play Services to see if it makes a difference. I will report back once I have given the phone a few hours to idle.
Another update. I installed Google Play Services 12.2.13 (940-185232307) beta earlier today and have left the phone with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Location enabled. This was approximately 8 hours ago. So far, with the new Google Play Services, deep sleep is working and I'm not seeing any excessive drain. I lost a very respectable 3% in about 8 hours, and that's with me at least waking the screen 3-4 times. For those that care to try as well, I first ”uninstalled" all updates to the default Google Play Services that came with 8.1 beta 1 and then installed the new Google Play Services, followed by a single reboot.

My Samsung S8 since last upgrade to Oreo was a complete disaster. Just to be clear battery life during Android Nougat was good and it was the first thing ive noticed that samsung completely stepped up their game since their battery disaster on their certain phone model. Battery life would run at least from a day to 2 before recharging. Ive noticed there are other threads similar to these so i knew im not the only one affected, my colleagues also experience similar issues since upgrading to oreo so this is not something isolated to my s8 phone.
Few key points that ive noticed since upgrading to oreo:
1. Going to settings then battery usage. Screen would be the foremost battery hog at 26%, followed by Android System at 13%, then Device Idle at 9-8%. Cell Standby and Android OS remains normal.
2. Go to Settings then App. Ive noticed by checking each one of the apps that beaming services, device maintenance, settings, gear vr services were among the ones that took up most of the battery usage this is excluding system apps like AASAservice, etc.
3. Go to settings then data usage. The Android OS is sending or receiving 100MB of data (still counting). I wanted to know what are these data that is worth 100MB.
4. Device easily gets hot even light use of facebook, ig or 7 minutes of youtube video.
5. It sometimes restart, this is rare but ive noticed it since fingerprint cannot be used initially when there's a restart.
Now what ive done so far:
1. Cleared partition cache by holding bixby btn, volume up and power.
2. Disabling unused apps, even certain bixby services, etc.
3. Went to developer option and disable always on mobile data.
4. Factory reset device hoping it would go back to nougat but it did not. With a mint condition reset, it still drain too much battery. (without any third part apps or data restore)
5. Called up samsung customer service but was told to go to service center. Went to service center they check the ASOC of battery (which i think is unrelated) and according to them reprogram oreo. which did not help. wasted my time.
Now what is the implication?
1. I need to charge my phone at LEAST twice a day.
2. It heats up the phone which would definitely have negative impact on the longevity of this device one way or another.
3. It drains too much battery, with the amount of charge discharge multiplied at least by 2, this will literally messed up the battery life in the long run.
4. Im currently using 2 phones and my samsung s5 which is a 4 year old phone had better battery life. lol. Since in just 3 hours it consume almost 40% of battery.
There are tons of related post like these on different forums and on reddit but i surmise i should dig more on this problem before writing a more concrete post. At this point, i can only see 2 remaining options: 1. There is a step online that would revert the OS back to nougat but this would involved third party apps like odin, there are risk involved like phone brick, etc. Im not sure if it will void the warranty. OR i can just wait for a patch from samsung.
Now SAMSUNG NEED TO FIX THIS ASAP or provide us a way to revert back to nougat. With the s9 just available at the market, this terrible oreo release could not come at better time. I know there are several issues like the battery issues with their previous note model and Apples intentionally slowing down their phone, Samsung got to fix this fast before this issue becomes a blowout and many people will start to notice.

What security patch do you have and what can you see under "Baseband"? Everything will be fine with latest March security Patch and CRC7 Baseband. Just be patient, if you do not have it, yet.

In CRC7, i'm experiencing terrible battery life. Max 2.00 to 2.30 Screen on time in one charge. Now, for the first time, i have to recharge my phone befoure dinner.
Wifi , Bluetooth, Aod On, location history Off.
It´s the worst experience on any phone that i had in the past.
Like you, already disabled some apps, clear cache and already done a fresh install. Nothing works, nothing improved my battery.
I´m thinking send it to warranty, but it´s probaly not worth the time...
Maybe it´s time to forget about Samsung phone and move on. P20, or even iPhone X...
After updating to OREO and updating all galaxy apps, "beaming service" was draining my battery (67% of the battery actually). After uninstalling the updates on beaming service, the phone seems fine now. Maybe uninstalling the updates of which apps are draining the battery could help you guys as well.

ive tried that before but after fresh install. beaming service could no longer be disabled, nor its updates uninstalled.
Besides other apps are also draining battery like AASAservice, settings, device maintenance, etc.
I received an update yesterday for the CRC7 March security patch.
Battery life aint any better

You're right, that can't be disabled but I was simply able to uninstall the updates by clicking three dots top-right corner of app info screen. I've the latest version CRC7 on the phone by the way.

I've been s8 for three months and I've never had any particular problems, I've upgraded to CRC7 (second update of Oreo) and I've already got twice the phone with a flat battery:
last week in the morning I found it at 1% from 35% the night before (during the night only the gsm network was active, everything else off); when in doubt I did a factory data reset by installing only minimal applications (FB, whatsup and little else) and I installed the Accubattery application to monitor the battery.
Last night put away (active gsm only) at 65% of residual charge and this morning after 10 hours it was 5%: 60% of charge consumed in one night.
Android does not report any abnormal consumption of any application .... it seems an anomalous battery drain
I enclose battery data screenshots; is not that the new Oreo update is buggy? or could the battery or the phone power circuit or the radio part that consume excessively might have a problem? Before bringing it to service I wanted your opinion and in case I wanted to try to put back the CRB7 version of Oreo .... how do I do it? do I lose the guarantee in this case?

I have the exact same problem as you and many others. I have tried various things to solve it and I concluded on that the modem firmware has a serious bug . airplane mode consumes more battery than on cellular. To make sure we are talking about the same thing please try removing your SIM card and let it all night . By the morning you have to be -2% of the battery . With the SIM inside now you have to drain 15-20% . If thats the case for you , you make sure that its not a faulty device and there is no drain from your setup (like an application draining etc .. in this case factory reset should fix it).
Cinfirm your findings and lets hope they will release update soon.

he doesn't do it every night, but random : in a week it happened twice
It's not in airplane mode, modem is switched on only for phone line (LTE off) ; I already tried two factory reset
Yours is affected only in airplane mode ?
Tonight , my s8 have to drain 60 % in 9 hours !

It drains in general but while in cellular it's difficult to distinguish if it's a bug or bad signal . Each ones phone may consume different amounts of energy depending on coverage etc. But in airplane mode you can be sure it's a bug because antenna transmission should be off and therefore not consuming energy . Just try as I said just to be sure we have the same issue . One night with airplane mode and SIM card in and another night airplane without SIM. You should see great difference .

Tonight ( gsm on ) have no drain : 0,3 % / h. ( 3 % in 10 hours ).
if it is faulty the battery should always do it?
Did you try to see if it drains, leaving the radio part active?

This will not help determine the bug because as I told you it's signal dependant. It's 3% in 10 hours because you probably had good signal . Else it could be more and even if you contact a service they will say it's not a bug but the signal . Anyway if you were with data on and 4g seems more than fine to me . Now if you try this night airplane mode for 10 hours it could drop 15-20% ... is this reasonable ?

in airplane mode is a bug, but a 60% night-time consumption with active gsm?
0.3% / h. the device was in the same position the night before when it consumed 60% in 9 hours

Your case seems more like a random application wakelock . Did you do a reboot between the 2 nights?
To distinguish better the cause of the drain , when you see an abnormal consumption try removing your SIM card for a while . If this fix the drain it's the buggy modem/radio firmware ...
