How can we improve the signal strength?
Someone told me that the april modem zip will do the trick. Is that right? TX!

I tried flashing latest April modem.img (and later setting network mode on global), but signal strength is still bad and sometimes absent.. I think I'll change phone because it's unbilievable that a phone is bad in its primary use.. (I think it's not something of bad in software, but it's in hardware design)

I am on dotOS custom rom, last build...but...still wanna find a solution other then change the phone.
Maybe is placebo but on RR custom rom things seem better, but I have to flash/test other roms to see what happens.
We have to find something. Mi A1 it is a great phone after all.
Tested almost all the roms but for me they all have fluctuations. On stock I have no problems at all but on a 8.1 custom rom the fluctuations are back. BTW I have only at home the most fluctuations but solved that with a app. The minute i am at home and I am on wifi, data switch to 2g and then I got full signal without any problem. So it must be due to a crappy 4g connection at home.

Thanks for the reply!
If on stock there is no problem, it means that it is a software bug, not a hardware one. This is a good news!
There's got to be a way...
You shoul try Cardinal aosp rom it have exellent signal reception (for me same as stock rom)

I tried cardinal also but with that rom it wash indeed a little bit better for me but still the fluctuations where present. Only thing was that it didn't drop till zero signal as on other custom 8.1 roms.

What about dotOS?
On dotOS the signal reception is veeery poor
I have the same problem, which app did you use for 2G 4G connection? thank you...

I use automate for that. It works very good I downloaded a example setup from Google and changed it a little bit for my own personal use. Just Google automate 2g 4g setup and you will find several.
I use this one http://llamalab.com/automate/community/flows/1982
Thing I changed is the timer and the switch to 4g otherwise it goes to 3g.
I am on stock right now. The signal reception is weak, but better than some custom roms.
I will try other custom roms too. Have to find a way for this ****.

Tx, man! That's a good news! Very good! :highfive:
Broke my Mi A1 screen because the phone bent at work, so I went back to my trusty rusty N5.
I assume most of you have stumbled across this research;
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/themes/fix-network-issue-t3820025/post77144523
A fix had been implemented in PE that worked nicely, but wasn't without flaw.
Wondering, has anyone tried any of these build.props?
For better call quality
ro.ril.enable.amr.wideband=1
For better signal
persist.cust.tel.eons=1
Support For IPV4 and IPV6
persist.telephony.support.ipv6=1
persist.telephony.support.ipv4=1
I'll get around to buying a burner sim and trying them on my broken A1 eventually, but if anybody wants to try it I'm strongly recommending a backup first.
Also; has anyone looked into additional bands? One of the flaws may likely be carrier aggregation.

I have flashed about every ROM from this site and all versions. Pre Network Range Extender I had no real issue with signal except my lead bunker of a house and elevators. Since then I have tried all the Eris Radios from 1.22-4.12 and can't get much past 2 bars in most areas. Sure I know that calculating signal strength and representing it on a strength bar is hard but I am on calls and could be out in the wide open and next to a tower and have to find one spot to stand and get a call to go through.
I have gone from 2.1 root to 1.5 downgrade and re-rooted and still no luck. I don't know what else to do to try to improve my signal.
I have come to the conclusion that maybe I have flashed too much and damage the radio possibly??? More a question than a statement.
After upgrading your radio, did you do a *228 op 2? I dont think its possible but I am not a dev. I have flashed over 300 times and almost every ROM and I have only flashed a few radios (wont do that anymore though) and not had this issue. So that is why I said its prob not that. Maybe its hw related?
Yeah every time I flash a new ROM if it is possible I *228 op 2 and 1.
Hope it isn't a Hardware issue that will suck ass if so....No more luck getting the 1.5 Eris's.
After going to 2.1 mine started showing a much lower signal strength. I flashed a Sprint 2.42.01.04.27 baseband rom but it didn't seem to help much.
I heard somewhere that maybe the method it uses to calculate the bars changed, what we'd need is two phones side by side that were getting vastly different bar ratings. Then we could see what numeric signal strength they had and compare.
Stop looking at the bars for your signal strength. Go into About Phone, and look for an option that says Signal Strength. The LOWER number in the db level, the BETTER your signal is.
Stop using ' the bars' as your
Meter.

Not using the bars as my guide to signal I am using the fact that I can't make a phone call to people or when I get one that I have to stand in one place so I don't loose it. I am fully aware that the calcs for signal strength isn't the greatest. I just wanted to know if it is possible that you can flash your phone to the point that it won't work?

Well... I don't know what the radio uses to store it's radio image, but guessing that it's flash memory, all flash memory does wear out after a while, but you could use that piece of flash memory every day for like 5 years before experiencing ANY ill effects, though if the flash memory is of not-so-good quality, that number may be less. Still, it's unlikely you flashed your radio that much. Plus, the flash memory degrading would cause a problem of files being corrupted or deleted. That would make the radio inoperable, rather than having it degrade in quality. I seriously doubt that you flashing radios degraded it, though you could check that the antenna's firmly in the phone (DO NOT PULL IT OUT OR ATTEMPT TO PEEL IT UP!) Just a forewarning.
If all else fails, hold it differently!
CPCookieMan
call verzion and ***** em out..hopefully they'll give you a new phone or a discount on an upgrade...lol
Thanks CPCookieman I really don't like to even flash the radio if possible just for the fact that it is a good instabricker process if something goes wrong. I have probably flashed a radio 5 time with this phone mostly just ROM swapping. I still am convinced that this stupid Range extender I had to buy to get any signal in my house hasn't some how Ef'd up my phone. I works awesome on it but no were else and the issue didn't start until shortly after I got it.
The damn thing sucks so bad I can't upload and talk at the same time or you will hear every other thing I say. How should I approach Big Red with a rooted phone and getting real support?
Hello,
First of all, I want to apologise if this was already covered, but I really did use the search button, not only on this site, but also on google!
I really love the cm insanity rom and Ive been using it for a long time. You can see my post count is low because I really didnt have any problems and if I did, I usually solved it by myself. But that doesnt mean I am new here or noob
Ill try to describe my problem now.
I have the international i9000 with insanityCM021 and GlitchV11 kernel, I didnt really need HSDPA until now, because normal 3G speeds were sufficient for my mobile surfing. Now I have a new laptop which I want to use and the 3g speeds are really not doing it for me anymore.
The city I live in has really good HSDPA coverage, according to the operator webpage its 14.4mbps, altough the independent tests show speeds from 6 to 9 mbps. And all I am getting is 3G without hdspa with speeds as low as 200kbps to 400kbps. And it switches down to Edge quite often too, which is even more strange. It just never shows the H icon. And I am certain it is not coverage problem. Where I live I can see the transmission towers of my operator. Approx 250m away from my window.
I have tried various modems from this list nitr8 posted today in insanityCM thread and its still only 3g with average 300kbps download speed.
Ive tried the JV6, JV4, default JVK and JQ1
JV6 - 3G
JV5 - 3G
JV4 - H
JV3 - H
JPY - H
JPG - 3G
JQ1 - H
JVE - H
JVK - H
JPM - 3G
JP5 - H

So, I finally managed to get the H icon for some short times, with KC1 modem.
Even the speeds were fine, but it keeps on switching back to 3g.
And one bigger problem appeared, the "Warmer" display colors from voodoo display seem to be gone and also when im scrolling through menus it tears the picture... glitch reflash didnt help...
Its funny how I am always the one who has these special problems...

Yeah, Im using Glitch with 1400mhz overclock and significant UV, but I am pretty sure its stable. Ive sorted the colors problem, for some strange reason the gamma offset settings were reverted to default 2.3.3 values.
The HSDPA is working, but its falling back to 3g a lot, I dont know if thats normal though, because I didnt really use it that much. Even on old, non-cm insanity I had it disabled. So, if thats normal I seem to have no troubles anymore
The speeds are fine when it is working, I currently have cheaper data plan with 3.2 mbps cap and the speeds are pretty much as advertised. Though there is one thing I would like to know. My mobile operator offers unlimited data plan for mobile phones with 7,2mbps download cap and its just 15E.
Can galaxy S even reach that speed ? I couldnt find this information anywhere.
I just got a used HD2 last week and have been playing with it over the weekend. I have noticed significantly decreased cell reception from Tmo US compared to my Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959 using the same sim in the same places. For example two bars and 3G on the vibrant, and no bars connecting and disconnecting to the network on the HD2. I know that each phone has different hardware antennaes but I didn't expect this much difference. On the vibrant we are able to flash different modems in order to sometimes get better reception, is there a similar possibility on the HD2?
What would some other methods be to improve my reception? Different Roms potentially? I have tried using Hyperdroid CM7 off of NAND as well as NexusHD2 off SD with no changes in reception. Any help is appreciated!

Mostly i would say its the hardware hack thats on this forum . What connects the antennae are two metal prongs on the mobo which press against the case which holds the antennae . ive taken mine apart to fix the flash cover and while apart fixed that . and my wifi signal increased drastically . I wish i saved the thread link but i dont know where it is to post it . just search .
Thanks for the suggestion. Is this the thread you used? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190180&highlight=reception+mod

Partly, yes, but often it is just a visual bug so that the actual signal strength is not shown correctly.
That said, I've found that on jb, wifi channels above 10 work very poorly. I'm guessing you're from Germany, so have a look at which channel your wifi is on.

have you tried flashing another modem? anw for me that problem has persisted even from stock gb rom (I tried different modems), but wifi's working fine. I guess it's just a visual bug as adytum said
Modems do not affect wifi signal strength, unfortunately.

Thanks for your response. Tbh I have no idea what a WiFi Chanel is and how to change it. And unfortunately it's not just a virtual effect. Here by my gf (e.g.) I lose my connectivity inside the house from time to time or I have a really bad signal while my gf still get a great signal even in the last corner. She has a iPhone 3gs btw. I'm using slim ROM ATM and I love the most out of every ROM I tried .. except for the WiFi

First of all, make sure you do not have "avoid poor connections" ticked in wifi advanced settings.
The channel is easy to change, but you do this by logging in on the control panel of the modem, you'll need a username and password.
You could also try an app, wifi analyzer for instance, which shows you which channel the networks are on. For me, changing channels down to 5 from 12 made a huge impact, but others have not had any effect from it.
Usually the channels above 10 are only in use in Europe and Japan, so some isps here will set their router to high channels to avoid interference from other nets on the common channels.
@JCBG I can't see what that article has to do with wifi signal?

Thank you. I will give it a try when I am at home again. Here where I am now the WiFi uses channel 4 BTW (my gf don't know their router password >.>). Which one should work good?
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9000 mit Tapatalk 2
Well, channel 4 should actually be in the good range.
As far as I know, nobody has come up with any alternative solutions to this issue.
I might add that for me, disabling qos, quality of service, on my router, improved the speed, but not the visual signal indication of my phone's wifi.
Sent from horseback.
Oh hm .. it's probably just jelly bean? As I mentioned earlier on my gfs phone it works properly :/
Yeah, it seems so, and there seems to be more than one cause, seeing how nets with low channel numbers fixes it for me.

Is the WiFi signal on ICS also bad? I don't remember.
No, never had problems with it before jb. And I've at least tried 5 different jb roms, with no difference.

Guess I have to switch back to ICS then :/
have you factually measured a difference in traffic bandwidth?
or are you switching back just because the wifi visual indicator doesnt show full reception anymore?

Hell no it is not just visual. I lose the connectivity and it is slow as hell. And it was not like that before.
no problems here..
same bad experience here. After update to JB my wifi connection is very poor, not just visual.I hope it will a solution later.
On ics cm9 my wifi was good, now im on jb mackay rom and its really bad. I get a weak signal, but i think the driver of wifi are bad made of the developer. My bro has the same phone and uses helly bean and his connection is always better. His wifi is good like cm9 was.
Wifi works great for me on CM10
Is anybody else suffering from WiFi Dropouts? My phone drops out quite regularly while connected to my Bt home hub 4. Not had any issues with previous phones/tablets just since my edge+. Have reset my router and all is fine with the other devices in the house. Just putting the feelers out to see if anyone else is experienceing the same.
Sent from my SM-G928F using Tapatalk
Yes - I experience intermittent dropouts. I can tell because it happens while I am streaming live video which then cuts out. The words 'wifiname connected' then appear as it immediately reconnects. It's annoying as it interrupts the stream. I also think it is happening when I receive a notification like a text message. I have tried playing with the phone's wifi settings but this did not fix it.
First time I have had this problem while owning many android phones over the years so I know it is not the routers.
At least I'm not the only one. You hit the nail on the head with it happening while streaming. Thats where I've noticed it the most. Now how to deal with the issue......
Sent from my SM-G928F using Tapatalk

Can't positively say yes to that. But will keep a close eye.

Happened to me too. Noticed it when it connects back. Surely affects the streaming!

For me it's quite stable. But if you are using wlan roaming in your house with 3 or more same ssids this can happen sometimes when he is switching frequencies.

I have the same issues, my wifi is a lot slower compared to others as well. I think its a software issue, Ive gone through 3 replacements and all experience the exact same issues.
It could be kernel issue. Did anyone who faces that issue try to flash custom kernel? One of my friend solved by flashing a kernel. Thanks.

Thanks for the help bro but unfortunately this hasn't resolved my issue. Tried different roms with different kernels and the problem still presists. Wifi on 5g is slower than all the other devices and after a while it will just drop and not connect to the Internet. I'm hoping it's a software issue but I'm starting to sense it's the hardware .
