Hi,
When I use the HD2's builtin FM player I only get noise.
It can't find any radio stations, also doesn't play them if I manually select a correct frequency (101.0FM or 98.7FM or 87.6FM, Netherlands)
What should I do?
Do nothing. The radio on an HD2 is about as useful as a kick in the goolies.
There is a registry tweak to alter the sensitivity, but this will just waste 2 minutes of your life as it makes no difference at all to the reception quality.
The HD2 is great but its radio sucks balls.

Couldnt have put it better......
Some have said that a different radio will make a difference.......
In fact, if your HD2 does have a functioning radio, it is a faulty unit and should be returned for repair back to its normal state (static across all frequencies).

Can you point me to this tweak? I've got 2 minutes to waste!

Hi Greg,
I can't lay my hands on it right now but I am 99.9% certain it is contained within BSB Tweaks - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589305&highlight=bsb+tweaks
Good luck.
Has worked for me on all roms and radios ive used...
Bought my hd2 ~6 months or so ago, that 'UK' version (trough the internets), using it in the netherlands, had several official and several custom roms, several radios, and the radio has always worked a-ok?..
Just to be certain of my reply i tested just now, it works, im located near amsterdam (~15km) if that matters.
Maybe 'you all' actually got faulty radio antennas or something??
Excellent, I will move to Amsterdam straight away!
I want to listen to my HD2 radio.
I highly recommend Mr Banana that you take your HD2 straight to an authorised stockist who will be happy to 'repair' your radio back to its natural state - broken.
lol nah thx.
Besides, seeing how i was to jumpy to wait on a dutch release, ive got no warranty whatsoever
Warranties are vastly over-rated. I believe them to be a trick employed by secret Government departments to control citizens' movements. Some people even believe that warranties were used during the Gulf War by Saddam Hussein as a chemical weapon against the Kurds.
I have no evidence of this but I too have no warranty cover for my HD2 due to my propensity to flash ROMs in an inappropriate manner.
I tried flashing some different radio's but still couldnt get it to work.
I made a video for you guys so you can see exactly whats going on.
At the end of the video is full specs of the device including what software versions + radio. Volume is very low, if you turn up the volume you can hear the "gggggg" noise when the radio is supposed to play.

The reason I want my FM radio to work is to be prepared when TMC/RDS becomes avaiable so it can communicate with iGO
Hope it helps!

solution should be simple.
My HD2 warns me that FM radio only works with headphones plugged in, since it functions as the antenna.
I can see you do not have the headphones plugged in, hence, the static.
Trust me, even with head phones plugged in...................
hisssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
You may be able to pick up a signal by ramming a wire coat hanger in the 3.5mm jack and standing on the roof of your house though.........
I would try it but I dont have a ladder
I never realized I had to plugin the earphones for antenna function. I tried it and I have radio working now! Thanks!

My FM radio works well, when I am outside.
Inside stores and such there are too many interferences, a lot of the time.

Glad to hear it............ Mines a complete turkey.. indoors / outdoors......
Im gonna try my own advice and see if that helps.... glad the problems sorted though.......
I have flashed about every ROM from this site and all versions. Pre Network Range Extender I had no real issue with signal except my lead bunker of a house and elevators. Since then I have tried all the Eris Radios from 1.22-4.12 and can't get much past 2 bars in most areas. Sure I know that calculating signal strength and representing it on a strength bar is hard but I am on calls and could be out in the wide open and next to a tower and have to find one spot to stand and get a call to go through.
I have gone from 2.1 root to 1.5 downgrade and re-rooted and still no luck. I don't know what else to do to try to improve my signal.
I have come to the conclusion that maybe I have flashed too much and damage the radio possibly??? More a question than a statement.
After upgrading your radio, did you do a *228 op 2? I dont think its possible but I am not a dev. I have flashed over 300 times and almost every ROM and I have only flashed a few radios (wont do that anymore though) and not had this issue. So that is why I said its prob not that. Maybe its hw related?
Yeah every time I flash a new ROM if it is possible I *228 op 2 and 1.
Hope it isn't a Hardware issue that will suck ass if so....No more luck getting the 1.5 Eris's.
After going to 2.1 mine started showing a much lower signal strength. I flashed a Sprint 2.42.01.04.27 baseband rom but it didn't seem to help much.
I heard somewhere that maybe the method it uses to calculate the bars changed, what we'd need is two phones side by side that were getting vastly different bar ratings. Then we could see what numeric signal strength they had and compare.
Stop looking at the bars for your signal strength. Go into About Phone, and look for an option that says Signal Strength. The LOWER number in the db level, the BETTER your signal is.
Stop using ' the bars' as your
Meter.
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
Not using the bars as my guide to signal I am using the fact that I can't make a phone call to people or when I get one that I have to stand in one place so I don't loose it. I am fully aware that the calcs for signal strength isn't the greatest. I just wanted to know if it is possible that you can flash your phone to the point that it won't work?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Well... I don't know what the radio uses to store it's radio image, but guessing that it's flash memory, all flash memory does wear out after a while, but you could use that piece of flash memory every day for like 5 years before experiencing ANY ill effects, though if the flash memory is of not-so-good quality, that number may be less. Still, it's unlikely you flashed your radio that much. Plus, the flash memory degrading would cause a problem of files being corrupted or deleted. That would make the radio inoperable, rather than having it degrade in quality. I seriously doubt that you flashing radios degraded it, though you could check that the antenna's firmly in the phone (DO NOT PULL IT OUT OR ATTEMPT TO PEEL IT UP!) Just a forewarning.
If all else fails, hold it differently!
CPCookieMan
call verzion and ***** em out..hopefully they'll give you a new phone or a discount on an upgrade...lol
Thanks CPCookieman I really don't like to even flash the radio if possible just for the fact that it is a good instabricker process if something goes wrong. I have probably flashed a radio 5 time with this phone mostly just ROM swapping. I still am convinced that this stupid Range extender I had to buy to get any signal in my house hasn't some how Ef'd up my phone. I works awesome on it but no were else and the issue didn't start until shortly after I got it.
The damn thing sucks so bad I can't upload and talk at the same time or you will hear every other thing I say. How should I approach Big Red with a rooted phone and getting real support?
I have had the Vibrant for about a week, and love it dearly despite its shortcomings. I have noticed the data speeds and connectivity are in no way related to the amount of bars of service showing, except when it drops to EDGE (which it seems to do an seemingly random times).
I ran the Speedtest.net app about 20 times in different settings, many one right after another without holding the phone. The speeds fluctuate so wildly I can't describe it.
Sometimes I get DL speeds of 100kbs and upload speeds of over 2mbs in the same test, and everywhere in between.
The Nexus one fluctuates a little bit, but no where near this. N1 is on CM6.
This sucks because sometimes for example I'll click the news widgets story, and the webpage will not load even with full 3g service.
And yes, I can stop the speedtest completely by covering the antennae bump with my finger.
Any Ideas?
I also suffer from very spotty GPS functionality, even after the fix. I am not able to root this phone the standard way, tried over 20 times to restart holding VOL up and down, never gets to recovery mode - have not tried adb yet. (I'm at work lol)
Have you done a factory reset on the Vibrant? You should if you haven't. Might solve this too but there is something you have to understand, bandwidth is shared on every tower. If 2 phones are downloading a 1GB file EVERYONE's speed will suffer on that tower. So make sure you're not doing them at the same time because it's not going to be accurate if you are doing them at the same time
Hmm interesting, and thanks for the response. I don't think two phones downloading a file at the same time should make a huge difference, I am in downtown New York City.
I usually kill all processes on an hourly basis usually to prevent lag. Should I not?
System restore from the recovery menu you mean?
I only did two concurrent tests on the N1 and my Vibrant - all others were done by itself.

Do you recommend a backup first? Like Titanium if I was rooted?

Umm, not necessarily. We don't know how big the internet pipeline for each tower is. The way GSM works though, is each tower only has a specific number of slots for phones that can be connected at one time. Kinda lile a QOS type thing. So each phone sorta has a dedicated pipeline while it's connected. That's just on the GSM switchboard, though. As far as I know the internet pipeline is shared. I'm not saying one way or another on speeds slowing when more people are online, just saying "don't jump to conclusions". Because if they engineered the internet pipeline the same way they engineered the GSM switchboard, then each phone might have it's own dedicated pipeline. Just saying.

3G is not GSM. Bandwidth on each and EVERY tower is a shared media. I know because I've done it myself. Two phones pitted against each other would always leave one phone slower than the other.
Also there is the possibility that the phones are each on a different tower.

True, 3G is a CDMA technology but I really doubt the pipeline is so small that two phones running a test would cause it to slow down. A more likely explanation would be that the radios in the two devices were interfering with each other, and suffered a slower data speed due to lower SNR.
unrelated to this, how do you guys get your speed test results to show on your signature?

just learned that myself, for some reason my pinch to zoom was not smooth at all when loading certain websites it would be very choppy and such until I did a factory reset, now everything works perfectly. Also I think having a task killer is a must on this phone at times I can have 36 apps running at a time which makes for a laggy phone. I thought these phones had better self management systems. Guess not!

But most likely since its T-MOBILE USA as the ISP.. they most likely tethered and did a speedtest on speedtest.net

When you complete a test at Speedtest.net, it gives you a link to a picture of your results to post on forums and such.

I will say though that speedtest.net is not very accurate and very buggy. I've experienced some of the same issues as you and have been using speedtest.net for a very long time.
I'm curious to know what the most accurate speed test site is out there.
Try: www.MobileSpeedTest.com
When doing the test, let the initial test finish, but scroll down and click on 2MB test to test it again. That should give you a pretty accurate result.

yes, go to the results tab then go to the specific test you want the results to. Then hit the menu button and click "email results", it will send you the same picture that the "direct link" would give you.
Hi to all. I got the Bolt during the 50% off deal online with Sprint. I jumped from the HTC One M9. I really love the Bolt, but I got 2 concerns at the moment. First, I think the phone is overheating (more that it should considering the SD810 i think). It gets too hot to the touch on the back during regular use (FB, instragram, ocassional taking of pictures, web browsing and maybe playing a game). with temps up to 109 °F and 110 °F. Sometimes it gets hot playing music using the included USB type C headphones. Secondly, I can't get LTE internet speeds faster than 1 - 2 MBPs for download while getting upload speeds of 2-3 MBPs. I tried PRL Updates, Profile Updates in different zones and soft resets of the phone with no luck. I tried also looking for a solution online and even at sprint.com but I couldn't find any claims of the same issues I'm having. Maybe those temps are normal? But i'm pretty sure the internet should run faster. Any ideas that could help? Wanted to try here before taking it to repairs for diagnostics, because I hate the process of setting up the phone from factory settings, specially without root and titanium backup in case the unit is deffective.
Thanks in advance

This is my first HTC so not sure if it's normal, but I have noticed it get extremely hot. I can't imagine heavy use and during the summer. I wonder if this is normal or they would eventually recall the product. Lol not trying to sound like a pansy, but it feels really uncomfortable on my hands and inside my pocket when it gets hot. I have noticed it cool down when i go under the developer option and max out the cpu. I may root and debloat to see if it helps. Also I've noticed my internet speed on wifi is laggy, however while on LTE it's much faster.

Mine gets warm but my problem is the lagging. It specifically shows up when you pan the camera around, it takes seconds for the phone to catch up to the new view plus the camera seems to be constantly trying to focus. On phone videos and crackle are very choppy - unwatchable. phone still seems to work ok, internet speeds are good, apps run and udpate.
Very frustrating as i have always liked the HTC product.
I followed the BadBoyz ROM for some time and at last this sunday decided to jump in the wagon hehehe. Took me a while to decide to finally install a custom ROM but here I am. Everything now seems so smooth and without any lag. The phone doesn't heat up as it used to when I posted this thread looking for recommendations. The internet speeds the blame is on Sprint here in PR. I flashed the MAGISK Root version of the Bad Boyz 2.0 ROM clean and no complains at the moment. Still need to test it some more, but I doubt performance will change. I'm an HTC fanboy myself and always installed custom ROMs on all my HTCs and I have to say that this is in my opinion the most stable I tried. I don't know whay I waited so long to flash a custom ROM; maybe I'm getting old hehe

I too tried the Bad boyz ROM but with no luck. I factory reset my phone many times and tried all stock firmware from .11, .15, .22 and the newest as well. The lag won't go away. Cannot take videos at all because the camera wont keep up. Cannot play video, too choppy and keyboard is slow for texts, etc. I went back to s-on and locked with all factory stock. I bought the protection plan and am going to send the phone in for repair. I hope I just got a lemon. It was fine for 2 months before getting progressively worse.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it was just a defective unit. Still very pleased at the moment with the 2.0 ROM. Overall the phone feels more cold during regular usage (haven't done any intense gaming yet). For keyboard I didn't like the TouchPal as I found it kinda buggy so I switched to SwiftKey. Also the video runs fine here. I had for some years problems with Whatsapp media lagging and even FC a lot when opening pics and videos thinking that it was an Android related problem, but apparently it turned out to be a problem on my part. I always backed up every chat and restored with every Android new phone so even when emptied media folders the problem continued. Installed without restoring chats and the problem apparently is solved. Still need to keep testing to see if any other issue arises but at the moment still works fine. Will keep testing the ROM

Installed without restoring chats and the problem apparently is solved. Still need to keep testing to see if any other issue arises but at the moment still works fine. Will keep testing the ROM

That is interesting. I am guilty of transferring a lot of messages. But in the end I would do a factory reset, no sd card and basic setup with no message restoration. I could tell right away if I had the same problem by opening up the camera and moving the phone around. The picture would not keep up with the phone moving. it would take a second or 2 for the phone to react to the new picture i was pointing at. Normally as you pan the camera around the picture changes with the movement. Hope yours continues to perform well

mine had the same problem...out of the blue it started to get real laggy...it would even lag in download mode...even after flashing RUU & not restoring anything...I could tell going through setup it was still laggy...it was unbearable...I sent it to HTC for repair, it's been good ever since
How can we improve the signal strength?
Someone told me that the april modem zip will do the trick. Is that right? TX!

I tried flashing latest April modem.img (and later setting network mode on global), but signal strength is still bad and sometimes absent.. I think I'll change phone because it's unbilievable that a phone is bad in its primary use.. (I think it's not something of bad in software, but it's in hardware design)

I am on dotOS custom rom, last build...but...still wanna find a solution other then change the phone.
Maybe is placebo but on RR custom rom things seem better, but I have to flash/test other roms to see what happens.
We have to find something. Mi A1 it is a great phone after all.
Tested almost all the roms but for me they all have fluctuations. On stock I have no problems at all but on a 8.1 custom rom the fluctuations are back. BTW I have only at home the most fluctuations but solved that with a app. The minute i am at home and I am on wifi, data switch to 2g and then I got full signal without any problem. So it must be due to a crappy 4g connection at home.

Thanks for the reply!
If on stock there is no problem, it means that it is a software bug, not a hardware one. This is a good news!
There's got to be a way...
You shoul try Cardinal aosp rom it have exellent signal reception (for me same as stock rom)

I tried cardinal also but with that rom it wash indeed a little bit better for me but still the fluctuations where present. Only thing was that it didn't drop till zero signal as on other custom 8.1 roms.

What about dotOS?
On dotOS the signal reception is veeery poor
I have the same problem, which app did you use for 2G 4G connection? thank you...

I use automate for that. It works very good I downloaded a example setup from Google and changed it a little bit for my own personal use. Just Google automate 2g 4g setup and you will find several.
I use this one http://llamalab.com/automate/community/flows/1982
Thing I changed is the timer and the switch to 4g otherwise it goes to 3g.
I am on stock right now. The signal reception is weak, but better than some custom roms.
I will try other custom roms too. Have to find a way for this ****.

I am now on the DU rom (Dirty Unicorn) and can say for me the fluctuations are as good as gone.

Tx, man! That's a good news! Very good! :highfive:
Broke my Mi A1 screen because the phone bent at work, so I went back to my trusty rusty N5.
I assume most of you have stumbled across this research;
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/themes/fix-network-issue-t3820025/post77144523
A fix had been implemented in PE that worked nicely, but wasn't without flaw.
Wondering, has anyone tried any of these build.props?
For better call quality
ro.ril.enable.amr.wideband=1
For better signal
persist.cust.tel.eons=1
Support For IPV4 and IPV6
persist.telephony.support.ipv6=1
persist.telephony.support.ipv4=1
I'll get around to buying a burner sim and trying them on my broken A1 eventually, but if anybody wants to try it I'm strongly recommending a backup first.
Also; has anyone looked into additional bands? One of the flaws may likely be carrier aggregation.
