Magisk 16 and Honor 8 - Honor 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Did anybody using Magisk 16 on Honor 8? My main concern is the Magisk Hide and the safety checks...
Since Magisk 16 there are some support on Honor devices but in the real life I am not sure if is a point to going away from SuperSU...

It works fine. Supersu was taken over by a Chinese company. Chel stopped reviewing code for it. So unless you like your privacy, stick with supersu.

Everything is about privacy in this days...
Which is the last version of SuperSU, which was maintained by Chel?
So for privacy point is better Magisk. How is the privacy in Magisk? That's a big question
Which version of Magisk you're using? I have FRD-L09C432b394 but I am wondering if the Magisk Hide and the safety checks will work, because this s known problem with Honor/Huawei devices. I see the support from v16 for Honor devices but I don't know what's clearly mean that.

it's been working fine for me including safetynet. Interestingly, I have to keep USB debugging enabled to pass safetynet

I was looking everywhere as to why it was passing before the update to B404 and now was failing!
Flicked the option and passing safteynet again!

V16 on B404, was also using v16 on B403 too
I noticed earlier that my usb debugging was switching straight off after enabling. Make sure this isn't happening to you. Click the reset to default button at the bottom and then select it again

I'm using 16.3. Almost every single magisk version released has worked fine for me. Chel doesn't maintain it anymore. You can use an older version of supersu but I'm not sure why you'd want to do that. As far as usb debugging.. i always have that on anyway.. i have an L04 and I'm on 392 firmware. Magisk is much better. I was very very hesitant when I switched, specially since it wasn't at the state it is now, but I'm glad i switched.

Did you tried Magisk 16.4?

Sorry if I'm hijacking.
Since you're talking about 16.3 and 16.4, does Magisk hide works?
That was my previous problem with rooting. I would like to remove some apps and add AdAway, while using Google Pay.

Thanks for this trick man! I was puzzled as to why I was failing the SN check after passing it for a few hours.
I will retry flashing Magisk 16 :good:

I confirm that it passes on my L04C567B395. But because of that stupid USB debugging option that keeps getting turned off, I have to continuously toggle/untoggle the option and eventually sometimes plugging the phone to a computer to trigger the adb, so I can pass the safetynet test.
For the record I'm using Magisk 16.4

The only SuperSU that works AFAIK is 2.64, once installed, you can update the binary, as normal.
I have PMed chainfire about this, not sure if he'll bother to look into it.

Ok, thanks, well, I'll try it out then After another backup of course....
I also found 2.64 the only one to work with B560
Installed Xposed V86 and it does show as active. Gravitybox was useless. Got MinMin Gaurd installed, not sure if it works yet. Will play about more through the week. I don't need much more from it.
Really, the main thing is add blocking. B560 is pretty good as is.

yeah, anything that themes will most likely fail due to emui.
most of the modules are designed to work with AOSP, and fail with heavily customised roms.
I've installed the Xposedinstaller and then flashed Xposed v86-arm, but after wiping dalvik/cache and rebooting I just get stuck on the Huawei logo. Anyone can tell me how long you had to wait for the phone to finally finish booting? I waited about 20 minutes not sure if this is happening to everyone. I have MT7-L09 with B560, rooted with SuperSU 2.64PRO.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Yeah, can take a while. The phone sits there with the animated Huawei logo and you think it's dead but it's optimising, just doesn't let you know. I usually leave it on a charger and come back to it later.

smooth update: just removed the -w from flash-all script, booted once, went back to TWRP to flash latest Flash Kernel + Magisk.
Fails safety net for me no more Google pay
1. Can I flash this (removing -w) over july 8.1.0 and keep all my apps and settings?
2. Is it already good enough as a daily driver?

Thanks! One more noobish question. Can I revert to a full TWRP backup (including vendor etc) if for some reason I want to revert back to stock 8.1?

You will need to perform a full backup, transfer the twrp folder to PC, flash vendor image, then flash twrp, then transfer over backup to restore.
After two cycles from 100-0. With latest ElementalX kernel and Helix engine.

have you tried to install a custome kernel? if i remember right, it should be enough to install a kernel for that..
I flashed it and in my enthousiasm forgot to remove the -w so it became a clean install...
DP4 is already a major upgrade over 8.1.0 with lots of new features. The portrait mode in the new camera app is great and also no intermittent wifi drops anymore.
Indeed its good enough as a daily driver so I'm staying on it now.

Google Pay Busted on Android 10

Got a message from Google Pay saying that my phone is rooted or is running uncertified software.
I have a T-Mobile variant that I converted , without root, to international. Anyone else see this issue?
Read. This is an old problem for years. Is your bootloader unlocked? Not rooted? Yes this breaks GPay. Hence, Magisk, root, systemless and Hide.
Easy fix.
I'm not rooted. Bootloader is locked.
I just booted into bootloader to double check, and it is locked and secure boot is enabled

Seems like onplus6t lost play protect certification with Android 10 also.

You're going to need root to get this fixed. So first go this link and follow the instructions in the first post to get Magisk on your device.
Next, you may need to install the latest Magisk Manager. Link here.
With Magisk Manager on your device, you can install both "Busybox for Android NDK" and "MagiskHide Props Config" modules.
After a reboot, use a terminal app (I used Termux) to setup MagiskHide Props as per the instructions here. I just used the available OnePlus 6T fingerprint.
With it all setup, the device will show up as certified.

I'm not rooted, and really don't want to root.
That is besides the point though, why is the official release of the OS having the issue.

When you say "official" release, did it come OTA, or did you download it, or use the updater from
the play store?
OnePlus isn't releasing 10 "officially" to the 6T, got a few bugs left to squish.

No, works fine. But I don't have a converted variant - all stock.
If you go back to stock as it is with T-variant (search for MSM tool), is it certified again?

If you're rooted that would explain why it's not working. You need the gpay magisk module to fix it if rooted.
