that is because it has a slow GPU (graphic chip) so it wil lagg... unless u try low setting maybe.

Same here
I also tried to tweak the game with GL tools. I'm getting solid 30 fps at first but then it just ****in dips down to 15 which are unplayable

It's not completely true!
I made some tests running PUBG, and I noticed that the CPU heats up a lot after 5 minutes playing, causing Throttling, monitoring the frequency I saw that the processor has limited the maximum clock to 499 (Big cluster) and 403 (Little cluster) this happens when cell reaches ~ 45 degrees. unfortunately the only way I found to solve this was to disable Thermal Throttling, which is NOT RECOMMENDED!

i am running stock android nougat with elemental X kernel. my game is lagging. there are huge frame drops. please suggest a good rom and kernel combo for consistent frame rates.

the best is to flash vegito kernel & overclock cpu to 1.8ghz & gpu to 600mhz,and set throttling to 80 or 90

there are frame drops at low settings too. phone is heating up 46°c and cores stopped running. i check the core status while playing too. i over clock big cores to 1600mhz and when they take load they drop down to 499mhz this is when frame rate goes to 10fps. please give suggestions about good rom and respective kernel and kernel governor
I tried GLTools and GFXTools they too are not helpful in my case.

My Solution for PUBG lagging on G4+
Set graphics and frame rate to lowest. Remove back & back cover of the phone so heat dissipation will be fast and phone will run faster. Use third party app like greenify to force stop unwanted ram eating applications. Now you are much closer to chicken dinner. Let me know if this helps you too. All the best

U can use pub gfx tool without any worry.

Playing the game by sitting in front of a table fan fixes all lagging issues.

nueOverClockTest + Msm7kCpuSpeed = 1056 MHz !!!

Just launch nueOverClockTest (it will put your CPU @ 768Mhz).
then launch Msm7kCpuSpeed (it will show 960MHz)
then exit from Msm7kCpuSpeed (our CPU will be clocked @1056MHz, you can check reopening one of the two programs).
As you can see on the screenshots the overclock works also if the phone is battery powered.
No benchmark atm, but @1056Mhz the phone is reeeallyyy a pleasure to use.
The overclock seem really working.
Navigon will take about 30 sec to start @ stock speed, but will take only 16/18 sec to start @ 1056
and how much does 1056mhz stress the cpu ?

I'm not sure that this value is correct, what' I see is an improvement on the performances and this is enough for me.
Btw the only broken cpus I saw in 27 years of IT involvement were some athlon XP powered on w/o the heat-sink, so I don't care less about the cpu stress.
where can i get the programs for this? can u give me a link?

Hi guys,
I have followed the process outlined here and it seems to be working great on the phone. Just wanted to know if you have any other programs that can be used to benchmark the performance improvement in comparison to lets say a stock X2.

Mine works at 1056 MHz since Sep. 3rd without draining battery or overheating at all.
Yes apps run faster, video playback smoother even in WMP, no more glitches in music while surfing the net.
Most important is it's overall stable, no SOD or crashes here.

Overclocking >806?

Overclocking the phone to even 787Mhz makes it quite unstable. That's why clock speeds above 806Mhz are not included in most kernels...but even if you do somehow overclock to 844Mhz I don't think the phone would survive for more than 15- 30 mins not to mention lots of heating up. In short-such speeds are not feasible for daily usage

Like the other ones written bevor me. Overclocking the O1 above 786 Mhz are like Gambling. Every CPU are a litle bit Unique, so nobody knows what kind of Frequency youre once are able to handle.
For Exemple iam running myone stable @ 320/787. But every Step Higher will be results in FCs and Reboots.
So the only way to go is to OC youre Phone step by step to find out what kind of Frequency youre CPU can handle
I once accidentally left my phone on 787mhz performance after benchmarking, and after a few days my phone crashed and would not boot into android, scared the **** out of me, but after about 10 mins it was fine, i quickly found out why this happened after. Overclocking your phone to 787mhz adds a lot of extra heat to your phone, and unless you live in a freezer or Antarctica and never keep your phone in your pockets I would not recommend over-clocking it that high.
If your new to the whole overclocking things, youtube extreme overclockers and you will realise would needs to be done to cpus to overcome the excessive heat.

[Q] Slow quadrant score?

Hi everyone!
Last night I was sitting with a friend of mine and tried to tell him that the Nexus 4 was faster than his Galaxy S3. He wanted to test it out and we both downloaded Quadrant Standard and ran the test...
Let's just say that I had to eat my words. I had a fresh install of CM10.1's latest nightly installed. The strange thing was that I was expecting the CPU to max out at 1500~MHz but it still stated 1100~ whilst the S3 was around 1400Mhz.
I went into the Performance menu and set it to PERFORMANCE but still the score was lower. My friend's S3 also had a custom ROM so was thinking that maybe the extra 1GB of RAM in the N4 may give a higher score.
What happened?
so because the s3 scores higher in quadrant, youre thinking that its a faster phone?
Quadrant scores literally mean nothing. You can't compare scores from different hardware on different versions of android running different rooms.
The s3 is a great all around performer that scores above average in all categories. The Nexus 4 scores higher in some categories (mostly hardware and software) but scores lower in others (camera, speaker)
thermal throttling

The Nexus 4 has got some heavy thermal throttling problems, search for this term on these forums and you'll find plenty of info about it. Basically, the Nexus 4 is the only phone that is unable to keep running at the stated max clock frequenzy for more than ~5-10 minutes, because it would overheat. After a few minutes, it will throttle the performance. This is also the reason it sucks so hard on benchmarks, compared to other phones with exactly the same hardware.

No it isn't .. It doesn't use all the cores all the time for everything..
even if I fire up GTA 3 , straight away it isn't using all the cores, and in fact doesn't use cores 3 and 4 at any time in GTA3 , it isnt throttling here,
The only benchmark iv seen the Nexus 4 throttle on is glbenchmark when ALL the tests are ticked, which is like a 15-20 min test at full load
Dsmboost was correct in the previous post as well , hence why not all the cores are being used when in games.
Can pretty much bet anything that its not throttling in 1 run of quadrant ...

[Q] What is your 3D performance? Bad HW? Throttling? Optimisation? Why is it so bad?

I have my SGN4F for a few days now and normally it runs just fine, but when it comes to gaming... it just sucks! I wonder what is the cause of this. According to AnTuTu it seems like overheating and throttling issue, as after the test run statistics shown that my performance gradually lower and stopped at around 60% of its maximum. Asphalt 8 for example runs fine, just a small stutter at the beginning of every map (mostly visible when the map name appears and flows around the screen), but for example Dungeon Hunter 5 is most time almost unplayable - tried playing the same mission more times and sometimes it is OK and sometimes i can't even do a combo, as it lags so hard, that the game cannot detect it. Similar story with Modern Combat 5, which seems to be unresponsive, but when i look to a corner of the map, where just few things with no detail is placed, it runs buttery smooth.
May i ask you for your gaming/3D experience? Is the problem caused by throttling? I have read a few articles here about it and i know that Snapdragon seems to be having problems with it but there is a lot of people reporting great performance with no lag at all. So i would like to find a final answer. So my questions are (the more of you answer them the better )
1. Is this phone powerful enough to run these games (Modern Combat 5, Asphalt 8, Dungeon Hunter 5) with decent FPS (ideally caped at 60fps)?
2. Does your phone overheat? Please specify which HW version you have.
3. Did you resolve this problem?
...... 3a. Did you disable overheat protection?
...... 3b. What temps you get afterwards?
...... 3c. What is max. safe temperature of SD version?
4. (optional) What SoT time you get on average?

am not a gamer or anything
for mu usage i get around 5.25 to 5,5 Hours SOT
So today I tested my device with with 3D Mark... the test alone was not enough to stress the cpu so the results were mostly average and started to be a bit worse with every next test in a row as the device heated up a bit more every time
So I tried two different approaches:
1. Put the phone on laptop cooling pad to see the result and it was insanely high it has beaten every other SD805 smartphone in the test and scored the same result as HTC M9 with SD810 and Adreno 430

2. Played Dungeon Hunter 5 until it started heating up and throttling the cpu and then run the test again - the score was.. very bad
My conclusion is that it really is caused by CPU throttling... the only question here is how to overcome this issue as i am not willing to lower the resolution or throttle the CPU manually to get fluid but lower FPS
Sent from my SM-N910F using XDA Free mobile app
I'm having the same, when gaming for like 5/10 mins it throttles down and framerate drops.
Hardware limitations, if the note 4 was as easy to open up as the note 3 i would made cooling adjustments, like some customised shielded copper plate that would cover a bigger part.
EDIT: h t t p s ://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi/yq5FhOMO1vqOCdpw.huge
As you can see in this link the CPU and such are covered with shields before they hit the heat dispensing plackers. lots of loss in heat distribution.
Sad to hear this, i have real luck on things which have problems with overheating but if your SGN 4 is rooted some users reported that they were able to play after disabling the overheat protection and their temps settled around 70°C so you could try that

Heat Problems

Does anyone encounter problems with heat? When I play a simple game like Fallout Shelter my phone reaches 50 degrees celsius.
It only heats up so much only on games. Or when I charge it but 50 degrees seems too much.
Is there an app to reduce the cpu frequency so it cools down? Kernel Adiutor doesn't work for me. Or I don't know how to use it properly.
never seen it get to 50.
are you stock or ....
Im on Google Edition by Cydras. It works fine except for the temperature. It heats when I charge it or when I play some games. around 50 degrees
On stock, my record was 39,5. I played games like Heroes 3 HD, Hearthstone, Bloons City.
Fallout Shelter seems a low grafic game and I didn't thought it will make the phone heat.
Fallout: Winter Edition. Play, if your hands are cold. Cool feature!
Battery only reaches ~41°C max while charging, but it normally drops down into the 30's. I don't think I've seen it go past that, but that temp was seen while I was in a hot area.
I played injustice for an hour straight and never heat up. I am on stock
LeEco Pro3
If you're rooted, try setting the gpu governor to power save for that game.
I noticed with my last phone with an sd810, some games would max the gpu when there was no need to. Even some of the escape the room type games did it, while others didn't.

the temperature will rise very quickly if you are using xposed, and I met this problem when installed xposed that there is no way to overcome

It does not make sense. Exposed alone will not raise temperature. You could be using some super heavy Xposed modules that make CPU to work at full speed. I cannot think of any modules that would do that though.

I do not know what it is modules, I just used some youtube adaway basic modules, minmin guad, youtube backup, flat style colored bar...
I don't have any exposed program or modules installed. Just the20161212v2_20s Google Edition by Cydras for LEX720
Tried with kernel adiutor to decrease cpu frequencies but didn't work. It made the phone work really bad. So I uninstall it.

Use ElementalX. I reduced the big cluster to 800mhz, then disabled it altogether. No problems with this app.

Because of the metal back, the phone gets warm but I don't notice any throttling.

I've yet to see my temp rise above 40, and I've been gaming a lot lately
It depend on the game, on Need for Speed Unlimited is just warm but on Fallout Shelter is really hot, I don't understand what it does. It doesn't have a lot of grafix.
The stock plastic case is quite bad thermal wise. (Most cases probably are.) Although 50C is actually quite cool for a CPU if that's what you're reading.
