Odin 3.13.1 for MAC - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

This same article is copied on a load of different blog posts:
http://www.teamandroid.com/2018/03/02/download-odin-3131-windows-mac-android-oreo/
Towards the end it says "For Mac, you just need to extract the S1PlugIn.bundle included in the above zip and run it through VMware."
But it gives no indication on how you're supposed to run it through VMWare. I installed vmware fusion, and haven't been able to get it to do anything. Does anyone know?
This is the most of anything I could find about the bundle, and it's useless:
https://superuser.com/questions/67249/what-is-a-bundle-file-and-how-do-i-run-it

take

? How do i run it?

Any update on this?

I'd ended up just using my PC before seeing the reply. But the file posted by @KPOCAB4EG does appear to work. The binaryDownloader in the zip pops up an odin looking interface. Haven't used it though. Thanks @KPOCAB4EG

Over a year later and there isn't a single post on the entirety of the internet that explains what to do with this file. I'm a highly seasoned mac user and can't figure out what the heck it's supposed to do. The files in the bundle aren't even executable. No version of VMWare supports .bundle files.

first time flashing ROM, have a few questions. please help!

Hi all,
I am gonna hard SPL my tilt 2 for the first time. Well, this will be the first time ever that im flashing rom onto my phone. And after reading the "[Resources] Flashing your First GSM Rhodium Rom (For Noobs)" post, I have a few questions:
1. when it says *DO NOT let the Screensaver activate*
what does that mean? does it mean do not let it go to standby? or let the screen shut off to save battery?
2. It says "Download HardSPL package from *HERE* and extract to an empty folder"
does it mean to download the hardSPL package and extract to a folder on my phone or on my computer?
3. it says "NEW: Internet access is required as the program checks online for updates and license"
have internet on my phone or on my computer?
4. "Run Rhodium-HardSPL_V2_00R3.exe on PC, make sure it's launched from a local drive (not through network drive, etc.). XP requires Admin logon and Vista/Windows 7 will automatically prompt to allow it to run in Admin mode, allow it. If you get an AntiVirus warning please ignore it, it contains no harmful code (just used a packer to compress it)"
I dont get this step at all, are we to open the hardspl_V2_00R3.exe file on my computer or open it on my phone??
Thanks in advance for replies.

1. Don't let screensaver activate on your computer...no screensaver, no hibernation
2.Download to your computer (i dl to my desktop) and then extract it to its own folder
3.Have internet on your computer
4.Just run the file that you get as a result of the extraction in step 2. Make sure ur the main user of your computer (admin).
Thats all. dont think to much into it cuz the directions can be wordy.
"Download to your computer (i dl to my desktop) and then extract it to its own folder"
do u you to extract it to its own folder on your computer? and then drag and drop that extracted folder into your phone somewhere? and then open and run the file like how u would open and run an app?
or can i just download the file to my desktop and then drag the file into my phone. And then extract it in my open and run it like an app?
Thanks
Just be sure to know if your Rhodium is GSM or CDMA so you can flash the proper version for you
Maybe you should reread the threads that explain flashing. It really is a simple process. I can understand your first set of questions but they were answered very simply and clearly. You may want to consider leaving your phone stock if you can't figure out these basic ideas. Sorry, not trying to be mean, but most people start out learning how to flash by reading and simply executing.
Yes, pardon me for being naive. I know I may be asking some really basic stuff, but this is my first WM phone and i was never really good with computers or a "technology" guy.
I have read the post twice and believe me, I don't have any reading comprehension problems. I guess you can say I am being extra cautious because tilt 2 was a big purchase for me and I don't want to risk any permanent damages on the phone (not too sure if improper flashing would damage the phone).
Anyhow, if you had took the time to read my questions, you will know there is some ambiguity in the steps.

I have not flashed my phone before, but I have been thinking about it and I have read the directions. To answer your question about extracting the folder, it sounds like you extract the folder to your computer somewhere (desktop is fine) and then you run the file (Rhodium-HardSPL_V2_00R3.exe) as an admin on your computer.
You do not transfer anything to your phone, the Rhodium-HardSPL_V2_00R3.exe file you run will do everything for you.
To run Rhodium-HardSPL_V2_00R3.exe as an admin, if you are using vista or windows 7 you can right-click on Rhodium-HardSPL_V2_00R3.exe and select, 'Run as Administrator'. For windows XP, you must have an administrator account that you are currently logged into.
hope that helps, and good luck!
This page helped me out a lot, with my Tilt 2.

I am a noob too. What I did was practice with my old TP after I got the new TP2. I built up my confidence before tackling the new one.

That is correct 90% of the time. There is a way to install from the MicroSD card and a few ROM's that use this method. If you see one of these ROMS as a noob flasher, just move on to another for now. Not that there is more risk with those ones, it just adds some unneeded complexity for a noob.
flashing is so simple.
it's so simple, in fact, that you're going to be doing it every 10 minutes - just because you can - and you'll even look back at how much you lacked in knowledge that you'll think you were retarded...
**speaking from experience here.
Look, once you start flashing, just shut the eff up and dont do anything. dont even move your mouse (even though you can... meh) but just relax. have a beer. i assure you, it isnt brain surgery.

2.2.1 Mac OSX

Hi all,
this is my first post.
I have just read that 2.2.1 is leaked out, so (remembering how long we waited for official froyo) i start do read to understand how to install new firmware.
NOT EASY!
Lot of docs, none of them for newbie at their first upgrade, so i think to write one myself.
What i need from you?
a) links
b) i'm using only mac, so i will try to avoid windows. bad start, 2.2.1 is a .exe, why?
Thanks in advance.
You're going to have to virtualize Windows with VMWare Fusion, Parallels or Virtualbox, or use Bootcamp.
You can use a program called heimdall if you want to flash firmwares with mac, im looking in to that too because i allso only have mac. Take a look here

[Q] Rooting with Macbook

I have looked everywhere I can think of for a solution but haven't had success yet. I would REALLY like to use my Macbook Pro to root my new Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 but no guide I've found has been very detailed or even successful. Anyone know how to REALLY do this?

Its basically the same procedure as a pc but we use Heimdall instead of Odin. Theres even a gui frontend for Heimdall in case you dont like playing with the command line. Macs are flaky when it comes to anything to do with Android though, whether its rooting/flashing, compiling or even file transferring. I gave up and just installed Windows with Bootcamp to make it easier.

I tried Heimdall and the error I kept getting was annoying and people say to try using older releases of Heimdall until it works but it never did. Kept saying some XML file was missin from the Odin TAR and when I extracted the image file from the tar it said that the TAR file size was incorrect or something. I've avoided soon boot camp because I don't have a very large HDD my MacBook (but ssd's sure are fast!!). Maybe I'll just use an external for the windows partition. How reliable was using windows while in boot camp? Get many lookups, memory dumps or driver issues?

So far Win8 is fine and im on a first gen Mac Pro from 2006. I had to install 7 first and upgrade it since Apple doesn't support it yet. I dont think you can run it from an external though. It wouldnt even install for me until I pulled all my drives out but the boot disk. You can also try a virtual machine like VMWare fusion or Parallels. Ive also had good luck using Crossover but ive never tried Odin with it.

Linux and Firmware Flashing

Is there anyone who has the VZW retail S5 and runs Linux Mint? I switched to Linux a week or so ago and can't figure out how to flash firmware or tar files in Linux. I tried VirtualBox with Odin and Kies but neither detects the phone. Heimdall and JOdin3 don't seem to be working either. Besides using a seperate computer with Windows is there any other solution that works? Please let me know, I would like to make a full departure from Windows. I've been searching for a solution but no luck yet.....
Hmmm, no Linux users here willing to help?

First off DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE ODIN FROM A VM. You have a chance of breaking stuff even if you do somehow manage to get it to detect your phone, your only option is heimdall or jodin, and as far as i can tell jodin is just a graphical frontend for heimdall, but heimdall has its own gtk anyway. The main issue with flashing using either is they both require a PIT file which you cant get afaik, so you will need to use comouter with windows on it or install Windows on another partition.

Thanks for the reply. So it looks like I will just use the wifes laptop for Odin. I did get Jodin to detect the phone but sadly there is a problem with Heimdall handeling the large tar files that Samsung uses and the dev doesn't have a fix. I could push the seperate files to the proper partitions via ADB but that's way too risky for me. It was worth asking anyways.

I'm actually running the opposite setup: Win 8.1 Pro host with Linux Mint guest. I would actually recommend this sort of setup. If you've got enough RAM and powerful enough CPU, you should be alright. I've got a Core i5 (2core 4 thread) with 6gb RAM. I've dedicated 3gb RAM and 2 vCPUs (virtual CPUs) to the guest OS. Also, make a shared directory on the Windows host anywhere (mine's in c:\vm\{shared_folder}\) and share it. Then on the guest OS browse the network/host os name/shared folder. This way you can move files back and forth from host to guest.
EDIT: and make sure the network settings for the VM is set to bridged, not NAT. This will place the guest VM on your network just like it were a physical machine.

I have this same setup. Works great.
As far as vb not recognizing your phone, did you go to devices->usb in vb to check mark it to work in the windows guest? Install the drivers in windows? I'm sure you tried this already but have to ask.

nuvision windows tablet tm800w610l

hi i have a nuvision windows tablet tm800w610l,couple days ago when windows updates installing blue error screen come and i think say(ssd error) after that windows not booted say(bcd error),so i downloaded windows frimware from website and put in bootable flash and connect with otg to tablet(via simple hub for flash and keyboard)now i have a problem with installing new windows,i think usb speed is very very slow,it cant boot windows for installing(take 20-30 minuts just on the windows install loading screen)after that black screen and nothing happening,im tested other bootable iso files but speed is very very slow i cant do any thing.im searched net some people think its on bios setting, some think usb hub is problem(before that i have a another windows tablet and installed windows via same hub)
so i dont know where is the problem,in bios there is very very settings i dont know which setting must changed.
thanks.
had to reload mine from scratch worked fine with a OTG hub, keyboard , mouse and flash drive .

Just an FYI, the version that’s currently on the Nuvision website works.
It’s not an iso, at least it doesn’t download as one. I took that file and created an iso and used a usb bootable maker to create the usb drive.
It recognized it upon restarting in advanced mode. The installer is in another language but it got me up and running again.
Just wanted to put this out there.
You can use the NuVision image if you wish (You just extract the RAR to your USB drive and then boot it in your tablet), or you can create installation media using the Windows Media Creation tool (or UUPtoISO if you want to use Insider Preview downloads from another machine).
As long as you use the correct processor architecture, you don't need the NuVision restore package (It's also out of date and no longer supported by Microsoft as it's version 1511, or maybe it was 1603 either way it's unsupported as of now). Some drivers maybe, but a lot of those are available via WU (I've never had to actually install any drivers doing a clean install from a Windows ISO).
This also applies to the NuVision TM800W560L, any 32-bit image will boot and work properly for installing Windows. If you look into installing 64-bit Linux on the W560L though, it's a little more complicated (yes, you can install 64-bit Linux, but not Windows. This is because the Linux kernel can replace UEFI Runtime Services if it needs to, which booting a 64-bit Kernel with a 32-bit version of GRUB causes UEFI to disable access to Runtime Services, which is why Windows cannot run like this and bugchecks with UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR.)
